Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. THY WILL BE DONE, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but DELIVER US FROM EVIL.
For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen †

Michael Nesmeth’s “First National Band” LP was not a stand out hit, at least not initially. He was, after all, competing with some heavy hitters who’d surfaced in the LA music scene and he was “just” an ex-Monkee.. Still, “Joanne” went on to be a national hit. Having had a similar unforgettable first-love experience (and who hasn’t?), I was struck by how perfectly the song described the complex emotions of failure and longing.
For a long time I thought the song was written by Leonard Cohen because it was in many ways similar to his “Suzanne”. Years later I found that it was, in fact, penned b Nesmeth, himself. We, of course, will probably never know what the catalyst was for his song, but we can all listen to it and understand it’s truth. And, when all-is-said-and-done, some 50 years later we can just sit back and say “Good on ‘ya, Michael”! And good on ‘ya Joanne, wherever she may be. Long may you wave, darlin’.
I don’t think I’ve heard that in almost 50 years. Real blast from the past.
Good songs are timeless. This could have been written yesterday. Alas, we are not timeless. 🙂
Do Our Loved Ones in Heaven Remember Us?
By Pastor Ricky Kurth
“Do our loved ones in heaven remember us?”
We know that people in heaven remember their past lives from Revelation 6:10. Here John sees a vision of heaven wherein martyred saints cry for vengeance on those who caused them to be “slain” (v. 9). It would be hard to believe that God would allow people in heaven to have memories of people like this (cf. Rev. 18:20) and not memories of loved ones.
In addition, Abraham called upon the rich man in hell to “remember” Lazarus (Luke 16:25). If God allows people in hell to be tormented by memories of the people they knew during life, it would be difficult to believe He would not allow people in heaven to be comforted by the memories of their loved ones.
Finally, we know there is recognition in heaven since our bodies will be fashioned like unto the Lord’s resurrection body (Phil. 3:21), and He was only not recognizable to His loved ones when “their eyes were holden” (Luke 24:16). Additionally, Paul knew he’d be comforted by seeing the Thessalonians in heaven (I Thes. 2:19). Well, if our loved ones in heaven don’t remember us now, will they suddenly recognize and remember us when we ourselves arrive in heaven? It seems more natural to believe that our deceased friends, family, and spouses remember us now and already love us with the perfect love that we will have for one another throughout eternity

Revelation 6:9 And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held:
10 And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth?
Revelation 18:20 Rejoice over her, thou heaven, and ye holy apostles and prophets; for God hath avenged you on her.
Luke 16:25 But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented.
Philippians 3:21 Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself.
Luke 24:16 But their eyes were holden that they should not know him.
1Thessalonians 2:19 For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? Are not even ye in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at his coming?
Happy Cursday Treepers.
Puppies are worth saving . . .
I found our BD dog by the side of a rural road. She was skin and bones, she was lying motionless in the grass and I thought she was dead. I glanced in the rear view as I passed her and she just managed to lift her head. I backed up, she couldn’t move anymore, so I picked her up and put her in the back seat of the truck.
I had IV rigs and some bags of D5W so I could get her rehydrated, she was so dehydrated her skin just stood up when you grabbed a handful and pulled. It took a bag full before she was hydrated enough to eat and even then she couldn’t lift her head to eat, she lay on her side and ate wet dog food off of a fork. I took her to the vets the next morning and after three days there she was strong enough to come home.
She’s been with us since October of 2008, she was one of my GGS’s 3 dog guardians, she patrolled out beyond the farm house while the two shepherds stayed in close. So far she’s caught one feral pig skulking around (she got tusked to the tune of nearly 60 stitches but came home with the best parts of a pig’s ear in her mouth) and has been to the vets 4 times for bites from moccasins she’s nailed in the back yard. She’s now working with my newest grandson.
You save a dog and it never forgets, you get paid back a hundred times.
D5W or Normal Saline will do in a pinch but Ringers Lactate is the best choice for dehydration/hypovolemia of those three most common IV fluids. If they are so hypovolemic that you can’t get a vein and aren’t equipped to do a cut down, then any of them could be injected Sub Q, but of course that method is not as effective as IV.
But no matter, it worked which was great for you and for the dog.
God Bless.
That’s what I did, sub-Q. Even after rehydrating her with about a bag and a half she was still so dehydrated that the vet couldn’t find a line.
15 miles from town and after business hours I use what I have, you keep emergency supplies on hand for your animals even though I have the vet’s cell phone in my cell phone and he will come out you never can be sure how bad your animal’s emergency will be or how long it will take the vet to arrive. I was out of Ringers and down to D5W or kitchen water.
ROSE ROOM (1939) by the Benny Goodman Sextet featuring Charlie Christian on guitar
Partial Video Notes…click through to YouTube to get the other interesting comments.
“Rose Room was one of the first studio tunes recorded 2 October 1939 by guitarist Charlie Christian after he joined the Benny Goodman Sextet.
“This song was also important in helping Charlie join Goodman’s group. The story goes that Charlie sat in unannounced with Goodman’s group at a live performance at the Victor Hugo restaurant in Los Angeles on 16 August 1939, at the instigation of producer John Hammond, who had been hearing about Charlie’s electric guitar work in Oklahoma City. (Apparently Goodman had not shown much interest in Charlie when he had auditioned briefly on acoustic guitar at a recording session earlier that day). According to Wikipedia, ‘displeased at the surprise, Goodman called “Rose Room”, a tune he assumed that Christian would be unfamiliar with. Unknown to Goodman, Charles had been reared on the tune, and he came in with his solo — which was to be the first of about twenty, all of them different, all unlike anything Goodman had heard before. That version of “Rose Room” lasted forty minutes; by its end, Christian was in the band. In the course of a few days, Christian went from making $2.50 a night to making $150 a week’.”
Perfection. Great post, Lucille. This is the real deal. Thanks. 🙂
Love Benny Goodman’s work. He was a complicated man. Desiring perfection, he was a taskmaster and expected every man would do his best. Wish I could remember the name the guys gave to the riveting stare he would send their way if they were messing up…read about it years ago. But thanks to that perfection he desired, we have some fabulous recordings to bring us joy.
Thank you !

How to reduce the ‘innercity’ crime rate…..DON’T REPORT IT!
The city of New Orleans conducted its yearly police ‘How Are We Doing’poll for NOPD. 57% of the respondents replied that they felt safer this year than last year, a major boost. At the same time, waaaaaaaay down the block, the local news reported that the city’s murder rate is up a full 60% over the same time last year – despite no COVID last year and some 6 months of lockdown this year. It’s back to the 4th deadliest city in the US!
So to what do we attribute the city’s feeling of safety, hmmmmmmmm? The local news is avoiding reporting all of the murders and when they do it’s a quick “there’s been a double shooting in the X-area and we’ll inform you more as we get details”, or not at all. The media’s given the citizens a false sense of safety and that, combined with the drumbeat of ‘it’s the system’s fault’ makes many of the post-Katrina newbies feel that all’s well. They have no concept of ‘The Good Old Days’ where we were #1 or #2 in murders for years at a run, their denial that the potential of the Usual Suspects to return the city to its previous killing fields status lives strong in them, it does.
I’m expecting the mayor’s and city council’s spinners to come up with the usual soothing pap. Standard stuff, more recreation activities, more after school stuff, some blame using the current apologist buzzwords, and the city will find a million or two under the couch cushions to fund some things to soothe the concerned citizens far more than deter the usual criminals. Hey, who’s gonna give up a few hundred tax free dollars a night for midnight basketball and extended public pool hours?
. . . but deliver us from the Evil One.

I had a former neighbor who did exactly what’s in the video.
Set himself on fire upon which his much smarter wife promptly tossed him down onto the grass and rolled him until the flames extinguished. He escaped with only minor burns…
I was sitting on my back deck and observed the incredible episode which was over by the time I had leaped over the fence between our yards. Turns out he was born and raised in St. Louis and little common sense.
He bought tools and tried to renovate his house but they finally had to call in a contractor and spend $$$$ to repair his renovations….. SMH

Truckers Report:
Back from the Nogales-Tucson, AZ run. We averaged 9.6 mpg for that roughly 3,600 mi round trip, which is excellent. The weather treated us well and the loads were light. Enjoyed the 85 deg. F weather in Tucson.
As I mentioned before the import/export brokers warehouse where we were unloaded is right by the stables for the big US border patrol station there. The actual border with Mexico is less than 3 kilometers from the warehouse. As we were being unloaded at Nogales I watched two cowboys training two border patrol agents how to handle their horses by having them walk their horses, having them back up, turn around, etc. through various obstacles they had set up.
For the pickup in Tucson we take the empty trailer there, drop it, and leave and bobtail a couple miles to a WalMart superstore and park and wait. I picked up a South West chicken salad to eat and then went into the sleeper and had a good nap since it was Randy that would be going back to hook to the trailer and start us on the way home.
Pickup in Tucson was reagents and lab equipment for Roche labs. The refer trailer we were pulling has two refer units. One front and one rear with a removable insulated divider. So in the front was equipment set at 68 F and in the rear were the reagents and prepared slides set at 38 F. We bring the loaded trailer back to Anderson and drop it and a local driver takes to the Roche campus in Indianapolis to deliver at the designated time.
We had a very close call on the way back late last night. It was about 23:00 eastern time. I was in the sleeper and Randy was driving on I-70 eastbound. There is construction on the bridge just before one reaches the I 70 – I 270 split. Only the far right lane and the two far left lanes go through. Randy took the far right lane and in the dark came up on a flat bed rig stalled with no lights on right in the middle of that single lane. He managed to get her stopped but it was close. Very close he told me. I don’t know how I slept through it, but I did.
I took over in Vandalia, IL and drove us home. I fueled the truck, filled the DEF tank, cleaned all the glass, dumped the trash, filled the tank for the refer trailer and dropped it and took the paperwork in. Then I bobtailed around, greased the fifth wheel and parked the truck. Since Randy lives too far away to get home and get any sleep he is still asleep in the truck and I came home.
We were already scheduled to take a load to Laredo, TX leaving out at 12:30 today. But I just got a call and was told they had a team from Laredo that needed a load to get home and so they were giving our load to them.
The only thing one can be sure of in this job is change. If you aren’t very flexible and ready to adapt, you just ain’t gonna make it in this salary driver job.
I’m still on call until 06:00 Friday so I’m going to take a shower and hit the sack just in case they call me to run later today or tonight.
Well I’m still up because I am not going out until 03:00 Friday morning. Taking a load of parts to the Toyota replacements parts facility in Kansas City. Bringing back a load of dunnage from that facility. So won’t get back until Saturday! Another week with two OT days pay plus 5 days per diem. Great for the bank account, but this summer I had very little life outside of a truck. Still on track to make about $90,000 this year. Have teamed 2 months this year now and I’m sure more of that is coming.
For some reason they’re having problems recruiting teams or getting solo drivers to team even though they make about a 5 cents a mile more than a solo driver and when they do refer a load they get another extra 5 cents a mile. Really, husband and wife teams earn a very good living if they keep at it hard and steady. But I guess young people just don’t want to work that hard.
Bessie is my 2.5 y.o, tri-color dachshund.
Her favorite toy is a $2(cheap) squeaker that kinda looks like big bird.
It will last about 4 months before she starts un-stuffing it.
I gave her a new squeaker yeaterday.
The sheer joy and pride she has for her new toy is so much fun. Running around and barking. Throwing it up in the air.
She even had to take it outside to show the squirrels.

The lady next to me on the plane the other day had a profound fear of flying, was sweating and nervous and I wanted a comfort her. I wanted to make her feel better. So, I said, “Don’t worry, this plane’s not gonna’ crash.” I said, “Statistically, we got a better chance of being attacked by a shark.” Then I showed her the scar on my elbow from a shark attack. “Yeah,” I said, “I got this when my plane went down off Florida.” – Comedian Dennis Regan

THE KEY TO THE MISSIONARY MESSAGE
“And He is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.” 1 John ii. 2
The key to the missionary message is the propitiation of Christ Jesus. Take any phase of Christ’s work – the healing phase, the saving and sanctifying phase; there is nothing limitless about those. “The Lamb of God which taketh away the sin of the world!” – that is limitless. The missionary message is the limitless significance of Jesus Christ as the propitiation for our sins, and a missionary is one who is soaked in that revelation.
The key to the missionary message is the remissionary aspect of Christ’s life, not His kindness and His goodness, and His revealing of the Fatherhood of God; the great limitless significance is that He is the propitiation for our sins. The missionary message is not patriotic, it is irrespective of nations and of individuals, it is for the whole world. When the Holy Ghost comes in He does not consider my predilections, He brings me into union with the Lord Jesus.
A missionary is one who is wedded to the charter of his Lord and master, he has not to proclaim his own point of view, but to proclaim the Lamb of God. It is easier to belong to a coterie which tells what Jesus Christ has done for me, easier to become a devotee to Divine healing, or to a special type of sanctification, or to the baptism of the Holy Ghost. Paul did not say – “Woe is unto me, if I do not preach what Christ has done for me,” but – “Woe is unto me, if I preach not the gospel.” This is the Gospel – “The Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world!”

Others? Any real Christian can see through them.
Young people who stumble onto these charlatans are truly fodder.
Republicans Aren’t Real People – Brandon Vestal
I didn’t know about the video game it references; but did figure out the purpose of their chanting ‘say his name’ and some other moves these protesters are using, like the constant drum beating being among the things these people are using, devices of invocation.
It also explains the insistent drive to keep churches, synagogues (and though rarely mentioned mosques too) closed, to keep the number of those assembled for prayer to God blocked, as a means for giving free reign to what these people are invoking;
also the reason I stopped watching the nightly video feeds of these events because watching became tantamount to bringing that same energy into the house, truly the last remaining sanctuary. Also shows the importance for ever increased prayer, good works, faith during these days.
Pretty sure these participants have no idea the forces they are blindly invoking though am very sure those behind it know exactly what they are doing. The backlash will be devastating to them personally, but folks that play with those forces always think they are immune.
Pretty good write up from the perspective of being surprised to see this topic in a msm way; sure hope people become aware of the video game, especially to keep their daughters away from it if possible, though with kids, like twitter and facebook are about to learn, banning something just makes one work harder to get to it:

Holy Hieromartyr Cyprian, Bishop of Antioch in Pisidia, and the Holy Virgin Martyr Justina the Deaconess
They endured martyrdom by beheading in the end of the third century. Saint Justina brought her parents to belief in Christ and were Baptized. Cyprian was a magician with links to unclean spirits and divination. A dissolute youth, Aglaidas Justina astray. He sought the aid of Cyprian’s sorcery. The efforts failed because Saint Justina drove out the demons by the Sign of the Cross. Cyprian saw the falsehood of his ways and deeply repented. He became a Priest and then Bishop.
The Holy Monastery of Saints Cyprian and Justina near Athens, Greece was founded in the 1960s in honor of these Orthodox Saints.
They are commemorated today, October 2nd on the traditional Calendar of the Orthodox Christian Church or October 15th on the civil calendar.
Their Lives are in the October Synaxarion section of Theology on the website.
