Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. THY WILL BE DONE, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but DELIVER US FROM EVIL.

For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen †

    Cuts Versus Dissolves

    I love cuts. Especially with a piano piece where the notes are so clear and crisp. Though a gentle orchestra piece often cries out for dissolves. So what is the general opinion of cuts versus dissolves in a piano piece?

    This is a bright and shiny new music video of earthview abstractions. The music is by Joseph Blanchard, a gentleman of great heart who performs for patients in hospitals and cancer clinics. He can’t read music so he composes and “remembers” what he played. He simply awes me.

    Why “More Noble”?

    By Pastor Kevin Sadler

    1 Thes. 2:13: “For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the Word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the Word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe.”

    Acts 17:11: “These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the Word with all readiness of mind, and searched the Scriptures daily, whether those things were so.”

    I had one of those “Aha!” moments when studying God’s Word recently. It has troubled me for years as to why Paul said “these [Bereans] were more noble than those in Thessalonica.” You hear it said often how the Thessalonian church was a model church. They were noble. Based off of 1 Thessalonians 1:1-10, it’s easy to see why we say that. So why were the Bereans more noble than these Thessalonians?

    In 1 Thessalonians 2:13, Paul gives thanks to God without ceasing for the Thessalonians. The reason he was so thankful for them here was for their response to the Word, that when they “received the Word of God,” they received it “not as the word of men” but as the Word of God. Paul was deeply grateful that the Thessalonians recognized the true nature of his preaching and teaching.

    The message Paul brought to them was a revelation from Christ that was unrevealed in the Old Testament. Paul received a new message, a new gospel directly from Christ, and he relayed it to the Thessalonians who “received” it as God’s Word. In Galatians 1:11,12 Paul says, “But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man. For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ.” Paul wasn’t taught his gospel by man because his gospel could not be found or be taught to him from the Old Testament Scriptures. His gospel necessitated a revelation from Christ in heaven because it was new. It had been unrevealed in the past, hidden in the mind of God (Eph. 3:9).

    Paul, in his missionary journeys, was making known the Word of God by God’s authority, with his words and preaching, without it being found in the written Word of God at that time. Paul was grateful that the Thessalonians not only listened to the message as God’s Word, but that they had swung open their hearts and embraced it warmly as God’s truth. They didn’t believe it was the “word of men,” or just the word of Paul, Silas, Timothy (1 Thes. 1:1), or something they had made up or concocted, but that it was the very Word of God. They believed that the gospel of grace, the revelation of the mystery, and the truth of the Rapture that Paul brought to them was the Word of God, which Paul says was the “truth.”

    The two times “received” is mentioned in 1 Thessalonians 2:13 it conveys two different meanings. The first “received” in the Greek primarily means, “to receive and take from another.” It communicates the idea that the Word of God was heard, understood, and grasped. The second word “received” in the Greek goes a step further. It primarily means, “to accept and welcome eagerly.” When we welcome God’s Word, we’re allowing its truth into our hearts. We receive it for ourselves. We make it our own. We believe it, embrace it, welcome it with full approval. We receive it into the inner man and make it a part of our lives, and by this the Word “effectually worketh…in you that believe.”

    The Bereans also “received the Word of God.” The word “received” in Acts 17:11 is the word meaning that they accepted and welcomed eagerly the Word of God through Paul. But the reason why the Bereans were “more noble” than those in Thessalonica was because they “searched the Scriptures daily, whether those things were so.” They received it, believed it, but then they made sure.

    President Ronald Reagan once said, “Trust, but verify.” When Paul spoke of a gospel, a church, a heavenly hope, and a coming of Christ that was unrevealed in the Old Testament Scriptures, the Bereans trusted, but then verified and checked it out for themselves to make sure it was true. This made them “more noble” than the Thessalonians, who just received and trusted. It was noble as well that the Thessalonians trusted the message of Paul, and Paul was thankful for this. But the fact that the Bereans searched the Scriptures daily whether those things were so, made them “more noble.” When we are like the Bereans and verify from Scripture the things we hear and read, then we too are “more noble” in the eyes of God.

    1 Thessalonians 2:13 For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe.

    Acts 17:11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.

    1 Thessalonians 1:1 Paul, and Silvanus, and Timotheus, unto the church of the Thessalonians which is in God the Father and in the Lord Jesus Christ: Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ.
    2 We give thanks to God always for you all, making mention of you in our prayers;
    3 Remembering without ceasing your work of faith, and labour of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ, in the sight of God and our Father;
    4 Knowing, brethren beloved, your election of God.
    5 For our gospel came not unto you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Ghost, and in much assurance; as ye know what manner of men we were among you for your sake.

    6 And ye became followers of us, and of the Lord, having received the word in much affliction, with joy of the Holy Ghost:
    7 So that ye were ensamples to all that believe in Macedonia and Achaia.
    8 For from you sounded out the word of the Lord not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but also in every place your faith to God-ward is spread abroad; so that we need not to speak any thing.
    9 For they themselves shew of us what manner of entering in we had unto you, and how ye turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God;
    10 And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come.

    Galatians 1:11 But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man.
    12 For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ.

    Ephesians 3:9 And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ:

      “Paul, in his missionary journeys, was making known the Word of God by God’s authority, with his words and preaching, without it being found in the written Word of God at that time.”

      Let’s look at relevant verses: “And having passed through Amphipolis and Apollonia, they came to Thessalonica, where there was a synagogue of the Jews. And according to the custom with Paul, he went in to them and for three Sabbaths reasoned with them from the Scriptures, opening and setting forth that it behooved the Christ to have suffered and to have risen out from the dead, and that “this Jesus whom I preach to you is the Christ”” (Acts 17:1-3).

      “And the brothers sent away both Paul and Silas immediately by night to Berea, who having arrived, went into the synagogue of the Jews. Now these, who were more noble than those in Thessalonica, received the word with all readiness, on every day examining the Scriptures, whether these things were so” (Acts 17:10-11). It stands to reason that what was preached concerning Christ’s death and resurrection and the revelation of Jesus as the Messiah was repeated to the Bereans.

      It is worthwhile to examine other Scripture with parallels to what was preached and received in Thessalonica and Berea, especially as it concerns things that were hidden / veiled but later uncovered. First, consider what Jesus told His closest disciples and their reaction: “”You let these words sink into your ears; for the Son of Man is about to be betrayed into the hands of men.” But they did not understand this saying, and it was veiled (Gr. parakekalymmenon) from them, that they should not understand it. And they were afraid to ask Him concerning this saying” (Luke 9:44-45).

      Later: “And having taken aside the Twelve, He said to them, “Behold, we go up to Jerusalem, and all things having been written by the prophets about the Son of Man will be accomplished. For He will be betrayed to the Gentiles and will be mocked and will be insulted and will be spit upon. And having flogged Him, they will kill Him; and on the third day He will rise again.” And they understood none of these things, and this word was hidden (Gr. kekrymmenon) from them, and they did not know the things being spoken.”

      Those on the road to Emmaus were part of a revelation of that which was previously hidden but nonetheless had been foretold in the Scriptures: “And He said to them, “O foolish and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken. Was it not necessary for the Christ to suffer these things and to enter into His glory?” And having begun from Moses and from all the Prophets, He interpreted to them the things concerning Himself in all the Scriptures” (Luke 22:25-27).

      As the two quickly went to share this with “the eleven and those with them gathered together” (cf. Luke 24:33), Jesus appeared to them all: “And He said unto to them, “These are my words, which I spoke to you being still with you, that all things having been written concerning Me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms, it behooves to be fulfilled.” Then He opened their mind to understand the Scriptures. And He said to them, “Thus it has been written: The Christ was to suffer and to rise out from the dead on the third day, and repentance and forgiveness of sins to be proclaimed in His name to all nations, having begun from Jerusalem. You are witnesses of these things” (Luke 24:44-48).

      Whether it was what had been revealed to those in Thessalonica and Berea about Jesus as Messiah who died and rose again according to the Scriptures or revelation about the Gentiles being “joint-heirs, and a joint-body, and joint-partakers of the promise in Christ Jesus, through the gospel” (Eph. 3:6) as foretold in Scriptures, it is important to let the fullness of scripture inform the nature of revelation and things being hidden / veiled and uncovered in certain manners over the ages.

    Figured I’d post this here, because I saw it and thought it was thought provoking. Wondering if anybody else has any thoughts about it.

    Tonight I watched the “American Idol” premiere, where they have people audition to be on the show. I enjoy this show typically, because from time to time you get a diamond in the rough, tonight there were a few.

    One of the interesting things on American Idol is that one of the judges is Katy Perry. I disagree with Katy Perry on her politics, but she’s a pretty talented song writer, and a beautiful lady… but as many of you may know ,when she started out she actually was raised in the church and made a lot of religious music at first, when she was a kid.

    So anyways, on the show tonight this 16 year old girl comes in, says she sings in church, and sometimes she sings secular music. Katy says “When you get to Hollywood… it’s ALL Secular” with kind of a disappointment in her voice. When the girl starts singing, Luke says to her “She’s just like you were!” and Katy agrees…. then the girl goes through to the next level of the show, and Katy says “Another lost angel, corrupted by Hollywood.” She says ALL OF THIS with a completely straight face.

    So later on, this other girl gets on the show, she’s a poor black girl from I think New York. Anyways, after she moves on to the next stage of the show, she asks the judges if she can pray with them. They say sure, and she comes over and grabs everybody’s hand in a prayer circle, then tells them to repeat after her… so Katy is now praying on national television because she’s repeating everything this girl says. So the girl says she wants to give thanks for her family, and her new family she’s met there today, etc.

    I just thought it was very interesting, because I’ve heard people mention before how they felt Katy had ‘lost her way’ and been led astray from God, and on American Idol tonight, in an off the cuff way she talked about that several times on the show. It was pretty fascinating.

    The day MAY COME, not saying it will, but the day may come that she goes full Kanye on us.

          While I do believe legitimate contracts should be upheld, indicating the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary are the baddies here is a bit much. They weren’t allowed any say-so in the transaction with Perry. As a matter of fact, the nuns weren’t even informed about it until the property was under contract awaiting approval by the Vatican.

          The surviving nuns were shocked the campus was sold to someone who is into the occult. They believed that they were the legitimate owners (perhaps they received poor counsel here) since they put up the money to purchase the property in the early 70s. So the nuns found someone more acceptable who was willing to pay more money and that’s not horrible, IMO.

          I believe the courts have so far ruled against the nuns. Whatever the final disposition of the court case, it looks like the property was put back on the market last year.

      This is good news in that it may be her heart is softening and she’s starting to want to come home.

      Her parents have been praying for her to return to the Lord and I’m sure many others have been, too.

      I remember reading/hearing a while ago somewhere where Katy said she had wanted to be the next Amy Grant, but to become famous, she ‘sold her soul’ to the devil.

      I also think I read (again I can’t remember where exactly, might have been at where if you’ve ever accepted Christ (which I believe she did as a child) you can’t sell your soul to the devil because it’s no longer yours to sell; you are now God’s child.

      She is a “prodigal” at this time, but the word promises in Philippians 1:6 “And I am persuaded of this same thing, that He that hath begun this good work in you, will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ,….”

      I am believing for Katy’s return to the fold return in answer to the many intercessory prayers that have gone and continue to go up for her and because of Phil 1:6.

      God is moving in everyone’s lives…time is short…pray continually that His will be done, for His will is that no one perish. Immanuel died for every possible sin we can think of and Katy’s sins (past, present, & future) were forgiven and forgotten by the Father the moment she accepted Christ as her Savior.

      As soon as she turns back to Him, the Father will run to greet her and oh what a day of rejoicing that will be for her, her family, and all who have held this young woman in prayer.

      God is so merciful, so loving, so patient with us. Praise, honor, and glory to Him forever. We all have so much to thank and praise Him for…it’s really true, eternity won’t be long enough for all of us to sing His praises!!

      God bless you all, dear Treepers, keep the faith, BELIEVE HIM…every word He has said is true.

        Doctors without empathy or a good “bedside manner” should have to spend years in some hellhole before they can practice among civilized folk. Last year when a specialist was giving me a hard time, I told him off. I still remember the shocked look on his face. THAT comforted me a lot.

        A good friend of mine, a very positive thinker, had beaten cancer several times and was convinced she would again after she was diagnosed the third time. She was still ambulatory, still was able to drive, take care of her animals and see her family and friends. But she’d started having edema especially in her legs and was concerned because of the discomfort. She went to her doctor to find out if she could get some relief. He actually told her, “Don’t worry about it. You don’t have much longer anyway.” Took the stuffings right out of her.

        Without permission to disclose the unvarnished truth, doctors should just keep their mouths shut. It still makes me mad that her callous physician made her final week so sad and without hope.

    “Arise and eat.” 1 Kings xix. 5

    The angel did not give Elijah a vision, or explain the Scripture to him, or do anything remarkable; he told Elijah to do the most ordinary thing, viz., to get up and eat. If we were never depressed we should not be alive; it is the nature of a crystal never to be depressed. A human being is capable of depression, otherwise there would be no capacity for exaltation. There are things that are calculated to depress, things that are of the nature of death; and in taking an estimate of yourself, always take into account the capacity for depression.

    When the Spirit of God comes He does not give us visions, He tells us to do the most ordinary things conceivable. Depression is apt to turn us away from the ordinary commonplace things of God’s creation, but whenever God comes, the inspiration is to do the most natural simple things – the things we would never have imagined God was in, and as we do them we find He is there. The inspiration which comes to us in this way is an initiative against depression; we have to do the next thing and do it in the inspiration of God. If we do a thing in order to overcome depression, we deepen the depression; but if the Spirit of God makes us feel intuitively that we must do the thing, and we do it, the depression is gone. Immediately we arise and obey, we enter on a higher plane of life.

        Exactly right and that should lead republicans why one of the apparent planks in the 2020 platform will be that abortion should be criminalized BUT only after 20 weeks!! If this is true (and we in Georgia are currently being bombarded with Republican ads for our 2 senators up for re-election touting their “hard stance” on abortion and in the next breath saying they support the bill to criminalize abortions AFTER 20 weeks.

        How can they ever now claim life begins at conception? Medical science is already saving babies born just after 20 weeks so what happens when that creeps below 20 weeks? Regardless of that, a human “life” begins at conception in the dyes of God as well as many states having criminal laws against injuring or killing a “fetus” in utero based on “it” being a human life but then, purely for political reasons rather than science, such laws exempt abortionists from its coverage.

    Hey AdRem,
    Saw you loved John Denver on the “reminder” thread.

    I had the opportunity to meet and visit with John Denver when I was 19. He was as personable and cool as his public persona. Even got to listen in on a private jam session with him. One of my neater memories.

      John Denver was born Henry John Deutschendorf, Jr.

      His father’s family and ancestors were among the Germans who moved to Russia to create colonies of farmers and then moved to the USA (and elsewhere) after some generations.

      As a group, the Germans from Russia are very active in maintaining their family histories and traditions.

        Know the story well. My family are Volga German; Alt Doenhoff, in the Saratov region. I am guessing you are Volga German as well?

      How awesome for you! I saw him live at the old Inglewood Forum and again at the old Universal Amphitheatre in LA…back in the day. That was the first time I learned what marijuana smelled like. Remember, “Far out!”? Good times….. 😀

    Hello my American friends, here is your Israeli friend again. Israel is going to its third elections after two other elections in the past year did not come to a victory for any of the sides. The elections are in the beginning of March. It’s a bad system and Netanyahu needs to get many additional people who stayed home to go out and vote. His campaign is all based on locating those people who support him and didn’t go and vote and get them to vote. I do not have a clue what will happen. According to polls it’s again a deadlock. Basically the parliament has 120 sits and the big party must join a coalition with the smaller parties and form a block of no less than 61 sits in order to for a government. It’s a British system that was adopted after the British left Israel.
    Anyways I posted here a song from a few days ago. Netanyahu sings. It’s Psalm:147. I think the words are from King David, thousands of years ago. (As a note “Zion” means “Israel”, “the land of Israel” or “Jerusalem”). Enjoy:

    lilbirdee12’s prayer:

    Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.

    Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.

    Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.

    Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
    Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.

    We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
    Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.

    In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.

    A prayer for Justice Kavanaugh and Gen. Flynn:

    Prayer to St. Michael

    St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle;
    be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the devil.
    May God rebuke him, we humbly pray;
    and do you, O prince of the heavenly host,
    by the power of God,
    thrust into hell Satan and the other evil spirits
    who prowl about the world for the ruin of souls.

    In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.
