Testing Waters – Drudge: Bloomberg Considering Hillary Clinton as VP on Ticket…

Ever since the DNC Club road-map showed Bloomberg as the likely nominee to move into the Democrat race & assemble all of the ‘Never Bernie’ coalitions under one establishment tent, there has been speculation of a possible alternate motive: to bring Hillary Clinton back into the 2020 race.

Today, Matt Drudge takes that speculation to new levels as he claims exclusive sources to highlight Michael Bloomberg is considering doing exactly what people speculated.

Such a strategy is rather Machiavellian; unfortunately, that type of scheme is exactly what Club leadership would do.  However, that said, this is more likely a test to see just how people would react publicly; and it is drawing apoplectic reaction from the AOC/Bernie wing of Democrat activists.

(Via Daily Mail) Mike Bloomberg is considering making Hillary Clinton his running mate, a source close to his campaign has told Drudge Report.

Polling found the Bloomberg-Clinton combination would be a formidable force to take on Trump in the race for the White House, the source said.

Former New York City Mayor and Democratic candidate Bloomberg is said to be considering even changing his official residence from New York to Colorado or Florida – where he also has homes – because the electoral college makes it difficult for US president and vice-president to reside in the same state.

Under the Twelfth Amendment to the US Constitution, which provides the procedure for electing the president and vice-president, it states that the two people could not both inhabit the same state as the elector.

Bloomberg’s campaign would not confirm or deny the reports when DailyMail.com reached out for comments.(read more)

As we watch the Club -vs- Bernie Sanders dynamic play out I would not put too much emphasis on the Clinton dynamic (¹yet).  More likely for the Club’s intent this story starts to tell donors and “moderates” of a possibility.  The overarching premise is that Bloomberg is maneuvering to be the Club nominee.

Notice how the story, by itself, positions Bloomberg as the presumptive nominee.  Discussion of Bloomberg’s VP selection inherently implants a narrative that Bloomberg will be the nominee.  Thus this is more likely the real motive for the story, and not the details within the story itself.

That approach, establishing the baseline psyche, is typical Club strategy.  The more the Club (and their corporate media) can keep discussing Bloomberg as the nominee, the better it is for his nomination to succeed.

To be the nominee Bloomberg first has to get past Bernie Sanders.  The ‘Never Bernie’ coalition will fall in line to the Club plan, they will put up no resistance.  However, the real energy within the Democrat party is behind the AOC-Bernie caucus.

The strategically placed “rumor” per se’, appears to be more about positioning for Bloomberg, which is step one.  The VP comes much later and will predictably be the bridge between the Club and a massive group of disgruntled activists.

If the DNC can pull-off the Bloomberg nomination; and assuming Bernie would not be the VP choice; Bloomberg’s VP selection will most likely be a progressive woman; and that woman has to be so appealing to the AOC-Bernie group that her appearance will heal the massive fracture created by the Club’s scheme to circumvent Bernie.  It will not be Hillary Clinton because she does not fit that role; and it cannot be AOC.

¹A notable caveat is how the Club has indeed positioned some very serious Hillary Clinton political operatives around the table of the DNC rules committee (Barney Frank and John Podesta).   Those prior selections do lend a modicum of credibility to the ‘sources’ framing the Bloomberg/Clinton ticket theory.

I can see the press conference now: VP Clinton gets frustrated with President Bloomberg contradicting her. She knocks him down and sits on top of him to shut him up. Bloomberg feebly mutters something about too much sugar causing violence. Clinton finally becomes President.

Failed candidate Yang promised to give EVERYONE money. $10,000 each Government money. Someone else’s money. Not his money. Vote for him, get money. (Don’t read the fine print. “Terms and restrictions apply.”) Mr. Yang lacks subtlety in buying votes.

Oprah might give you a new car – maybe. If you attend Oprah’s show and you get lucky. That’s a lottery strategy that often works. You bet. Many people like a gamble. Like casinos and lottery tickets? Drawn like moths to a flame?
(Kids: these are the best votes money can’t buy!)

Nanny Boobberg promises to be your new carping nanny president, as he did when he was governing NY City. No more soda pop. No more salt. He passed laws there that forbade it He told everyone to stay home. Wear your rubbers if you must go out. Nanny Boobie always knows what is best for you. Trust him. He’s your nanny. (Get the limo and my private jet ready, guys. I’ll be back next week and meanwhile, no one needs to know where I’m going.)

There is one principal, overriding negative Democrat strategy that all their candidates have: No more Trump! Impeach him! (Again?) Send him packing!

Did any political consultant ever tell them that negative salesmanship is guaranteed to be a losing strategy? Probably not Nat Silver, the same consultant who told Hillary she would win. He’s on George Clintonopoulos’ program every Sunday morning.

The Dems all know that they can’t win, no matter who they nominate. So “what difference… at THIS POINT.. does it make?” But unlike the R party, the D party never gives up and it never stops fighting.

Re the 2020 election, it’s time to quote a much older and wiser visage, who only and always said “What, Me Worry?” 🙂

This just makes Bloomberg look even more clueless.

First he says that he’ll spend $2 billion on whoever the Democrat nominee is, removing himself winning as a condition to get his money.

Bloomberg’s best shot at being elected President is to present himself as a stable, non-threat to voters. He would be all business, like Trump, but without the midnight tweets.

But now he wants to put The Threat on his ticket. This is setting off alarm bells for everyone who voted for Bernie Sanders OR Donald Trump as a means to stop Clinton. And make no mistake about it, Sanders’ popularity 4 years ago, and President Trump’s election, were both driven IN LARGE MEASURE by opposition to Clinton. And that’s who Bloomberg WANTS on his ticket.

That is insane. That is unstable. That is definitely a threat to voters all across America.

Bloomberg has likely just reignighted the Bernie Juggernaut in the Democrat primary.

It was never really about Sanders. It was always about stopping Her. That’s why Sanders isn’t getting 60% of the vote this time. She was the missing ingredient from the Bernie magic potion. And Bloomberg just tossed her in and stirred the pot.

Bloomberg allegedly made his fortune ( $70 Billion) selling to the Chinese and now kowtows to Premier Xi. Not only he is an Wall Street Oligarch, but an Wall Street Oligarch that made his money selling us out to the Chinese. If he ever begins to get traction these facts are going to hammer him bigly, particularly by the Marxist/Socialists/Progressives.
I don’t care if he going to spend $2 Billion on his campaign that is a huge black mark he is going to have to overcome.

Hillary is an insane choice. Two con artists who have sold us out for the enormous ill gotten cash payoff . Does that sound like an winning proposition to you?

His bet bet if he gets that far, which I doubt, would be either Oprah or Michelle. Both Bernie and he would lose the Black vote as it stands right now and he really needs help in that department.

Thing is, last time there were only 2 candidates the Dems even considered: Hillary and Bernie. The other 3 were basically the Bennett, Swallwall, and Gabbard of the 2016 Dems. Now the Dems have half a dozen people wirth name ID, as well as scorned Bernie Bros. that won’t give him another chance to screw them.
Bloomberg is another regional candidate like Ted Cruz, except with much more cash to waste. He can win a few primaries in the midwest and south but he will lose out to Bernie in terms of the electorate. In a contested convention, however, the DNC will give it to Mini Mike.

That means building up the intellectual and cultural side, while also systematically throwing sand in the gears of the colonial machine. The path to victory is to make neo-liberalism too expensive to maintain and too unappealing to support.

This is my take as well.

The story gets people “thinking right” about Bloomberg. It also allows Team Clinton to keep up the appearance of political viability, which is the linchpin of its “nonprofit” racket.

If Bloomberg does become the nominee, and Clinton is not the VP, then it also allows Bloomberg to claim he pivoted away from the Clinton era of Democrat Party… classic Clintonian triangulation. He becomes the compromise between the “Establishment” and “Socialist” wings of the party.

As I said before, I cannot fathom why or how anyone would want to HRC as a Vice-President. While the Clinton machine remains strong I question whether its support is necessary, or even enough, to secure a nomination in this climate. I also doubt its strength can compel the fear it once did. If Clinton Machine is strong enough to compel her onto the ticket, would you really want the only thing between HRC and the Oval Office to be your beats-per-minute?

  18. railer says:

Bloomberg is only there to destroy Bernie, and get this primary to a brokered convention. Biden began imploding 6 months ago, as soon as Trump broached his name in that phone call. Sanders then had a clear path to the nomination, as Uniparty polling undoubtedly showed, despite the bogus public polling showing Biden with a huge lead. Bloomberg immediately jumped in to fight a Uniparty rearguard action, as they retreated from the original Biden plan that Trump had blown up.

Bloomberg knows he can’t win the general and likely not even the nomination, but he can muddy the waters and get it to that brokered convention, and that’s likely the closest thing they can get to destroying Bernie right now.

Hillary is now part of the water muddying. She trashed Bernie the other day, so she’s in on all this. Her name will come up at the brokered convention. She could get the nomination, because there’s too much tribalist hatred between the others and they need a “unifying” candidate. They’ll never nominate Bernie as they want him destroyed. Hillary has run before and won votes, she’s a woman, ticks many boxes for them. Bloomberg can play kingmaker, and fund everything. He’ll buy all the party mouthpieces and simply destroy Sanders for once and for all.

To think there’s millions upon millions of Americans who are so dense, so ignorant, so brainwashed and so uninformed is sickening

Millions of Americans are eager to put people like this into power so they can pillage our wealth and influence, thereby driving what could be the final nail into the coffin that once was the American Dream

It’s mind boggling how utterly stupid so many Americans have become. Fierce pride and independence has been replaced by an altruistic death wish which many millions of weak and feeble minded Americans seem to have

I’ll hand it to the the corporate left for one thing, they’ve done a thorough job of removing the one thing I never thought could be removed, and that’s the inherent instinct of self survival and protecting what’s rightfully yours

I never thought that possible for Americans, but I guess I was wrong

Americans allowed the transformation to occur, and it’s yet to be seen if there’s enough informed citizens to counter it and remove it

I think that if the Dems feels they are stuck with Bernie, they can “work” with him, which means sitting him down and telling him what it will be like when HE inherits THEIR Dem Party. After all, it wouldn’t be the next Congress that is “controlled” by the idiots who spout AOC-ism.

The Dems who already own Congressional seats AND senate seats can tell Bernie, “Hey, old man, you can’t get anything through w/out us. The House controls the spending and either the GOP or we own it.

I still believe that the closer the Presidency seems to Bernie, the more he’ll shrink from fighting the other side of the party. He’ll toss the thing to Bloomberg, and yes, I think that from all I’ve read about how Bloomberg operates politically, he does scare me.

I know that he’s not a charmer, but you’d not know that from a lot of the ads his people have put together. Think of it: Bloomberg’s money can buy so many ads he never has to campaign in person to get votes.

The debate stage will be just about the only place you’ll get to see and hear him “live.”

  35. MLK says:

As I’ve mentioned before, and was seen in full relief in Iowa, the Democrat powers that be are going to keep Bernie’s numbers as low as possible. In short, they’re going to succeed at what establishment Republicans spectacularly failed at in 2016 against Trump.

Don’t look away, because it’s going to be a wonder to behold. They have complete control, including of major and even prestige media.

If they keep Bernie in the 30s then it will be a piece of cake in denying him the nomination. Even if the his percentage is higher they can still get it done. This is why there is no real pressure for Biden or even Warren to get out. Especially before Nevada and South Carolina, where they’re hoping Biden will act as at least a partial placeholder for the black and Hispanic vote.

Like a broken record, I’ll keep reminding that it’s the black and Hispanic vote that has the Democrats in panic mode. Having succeeded in denying Bernie the nomination, which at this point I believe they will easily do, it then gets interesting because the establishment factions are deeply split.

Buttigieg is a no-go unless he can energize blacks and Hispanics. Which I give the 37 year old gay mayor of a small city, whose claim to fame is that he was honorably discharged from the military, zero chance of doing.

While Bloomberg is a boon to Democrat campaign consultants, media outlets, social media, and Democrat with a pulse that will join his campaign as a paid staffer, he too would preside over a historic loss of black and Hispanic voters to Trump. Moreover, his nomination would be the most likely to lead to the Democrat Party splitting in two after he lost the election. Particularly if it included loss of the House and Republicans holding their majority in the Senate. That certainly will be the threat made by the progressives in a last ditch convention effort to deny him the nomination.

This is where the case for Hillary comes in. Say what you will about The Old Colostomy Bag, but she performed at the higher end of my expectations with these voters in 2016. She would at least staunch the damage, and if she steps in as the nominee at the convention then she’ll be viewed as a savior even in losing. Besides, once again the establishment of the party will make a mint.

I haven’t mentioned Hillary as Bloomberg’s VP because it just doesn’t make any sense for all concerned, including Hillary. Though it’s a smart rumor at this point to bolster Bloomberg’s numbers with blacks.

All of this argues for Klobuchar as a much more likely compromise than makes any sense under ordinary circumstances. Though if everyone finds out she’s really Mike Dukakis in drag before the convention I’ll have to revise my odds.

So Bloomberg, the TOP of the ticket and former Mayor of New York City would move to a different city so The Queen can be on his ticket (she’s not going to be the one to move.)

What does this say about Bloomberg as an alpha?
What does this say about Bloomberg’s feelings about the city he ran?

  44. Newhere says:

Pissing off the Bernie wing is a feature, not a bug. Team Clinton is that arrogant and vengeful, their power outstrips their judgment. They believe they can Big Foot Hillary into the nomination AND crap on the “Bernie Bros” in the process. It’s part of the fun. Can they do it? Probably. Once the voting is done, it’s the superdelegates who’ll decide the nomination. Bernie and his followers have zero real power at that point.

Any not-insane observer knows that bringing along the Bernie Bros is essential to having a whiff of a chance in November. But it probably isn’t essential to swiping the nomination. Remember, this is the team that thought “they couldn’t lose” in 2016. The reality that it’s strategically a bad idea won’t stop them. Stealing the nomination in broad daylight, and rubbing it in the faces of Bernie and his supporters — all upside.

You have to understand: it WILL dawn on democrats at some point that Bloomberg can’t be the nominee. He’s an old white male buying the nomination, who lost a civil rights case for racial profiling and has a slew of sexual harassment cases buried in his closet. Hillary is a woman, who already won the popular vote. Once there aren’t any more voters to convince and it’s all a conversation among elites in the woke-esphere, these things will matter. The voting will be done — voters say will be done — and it will all be about arguments hashed out and amplified over MSNBC and CNN. That’s where this finally will play out: MSNBC, CNN and the pages of the NYT and the WaPo. Now THAT is a primary Hillary can and will win.

Fellow Treepers I apologize for being off topic and hope this isn’t inappropriate but request your feed back and comments at this website in defense of our president for meeting with Christians today.

Interesting, I had not heard about this, Icsteel. I would suggest you post this question on tonight’s Presidential Thread for comments.

A quarter of the dem vote is going to go POOF! Maybe more. Bernie’s peeps will not exactly flock to a Bloomberg-Clinton ticket. Clinton screwed them big time in 2016. They were essentially run out of the convention (to be replaced by derelicts PAID to sit in the abandoned seats). Then Clinton squandered $2 billion in a dreadful excuse for a campaign, much to the dismay of her donors. Now in 2020, Bloomberg is setting the Bernie folks up to be screwed again. Twice Berned!!
