Saturday June 15th – Open Thread

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. THY WILL BE DONE, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but DELIVER US FROM EVIL. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen †

Standing, Walking And Running For God

In a way the Christian life is a stand; in another it is a walk, and in still another a race.

In I Cor. 15:1 the Apostle Paul writes of “the gospel… wherein ye stand” and in Rom. 5:2 of “this grace wherein we stand,” while in Gal. 5:1 he bids us: “Stand fast… in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free.” Perhaps all this is well summed up in his appeal to his beloved Philippians:

“Therefore, my brethren, dearly beloved and longed for, my joy and crown… stand fast in the Lord, my dearly beloved” (Phil. 4:1).

But the Christian life is more than a stand — it is a walk (which in Scripture refers to conduct). Once, says Paul, we walked “in trespasses and sins” (Eph. 2:1,2) but having been saved by grace, through faith in Christ, we are now to “walk in newness of life” (Rom. 6:4). Thus the Apostle bids us to “walk worthy of the Lord” (Col. 1:10), to “walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil” (Eph. 5:15-16).

But the Christian life is even more than a walk; it is a race. Sad to say, many Christians whose “walk” is consistent and commendable, have never come to look upon the Christian life as a race. These never put enough into it so that it might be said of them that they are running. Yet the same great Apostle wrote, by divine inspiration:

“Let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us” (Heb. 12:1).

The word “patience” in this passage points up the fact that the Christian life is not a short “hundred-yard dash”; it requires much endurance. Thus we should put into it all that we have. “They which run in a race,” says the Apostle, “run all,” but they do not all receive the prize. Hence the admonition: “So run that ye may obtain” (I Cor. 9:24).

Those who have not trusted Christ as Savior have not even begun to stand, or walk, much less to run a race for Him. These might as well forget rewards until they first accept “the gift of God… eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord” (Rom. 6:23).

      1 Corinthians 15:1 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;

Romans 5:2 By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

Galatians 5:1 Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.

Philippians 4:1 Therefore, my brethren dearly beloved and longed for, my joy and crown, so stand fast in the Lord, my dearly beloved.

      Ephesians 2:1 And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;
2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:

Romans 6:4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

      Colossians 1:10 That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;

Ephesians 5:15 See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,
16 Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.

Hebrews 12:1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before

1 Corinthians 9:24 Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain.

Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

We praise and Bless your Holy name.
Today we thank you for June 15, 2016 and the blessing you gave us when Donald Trump answered the call on behalf of this country and your children who dwell here and around this planet.
Thank you that he answered your call and had endured.
Thank you that he stays the course despite all the slings and arrows, deceit, plotting and disloyalty that has surrounded him.
Father, we invoke your blessings of protection over his life and that of his loved ones.
We pray divine wisdom empowers him to escape the snares of his enemies, and to continue to work on behalf of your people.

Dear God, let it only be with our eyes, and President Trump’s eyes that we see the reward of the wicked.
We pray for the unborn children that you keep them safe in the palm of your hand.
We pray for mothers who are thinking of abortions that you send laborers into the field to meet them in their path to guide them into truth with love to turn their hearts.
We pray our Father, that the old and infirm be rewarded with length of days and ease of pain to live to see the triumph of President Trump.
Bring your people together, help them to recognize that we are together children of the most High God.

Reminded by the Dominican Republic heart attach issue.

Last week a fellow church goer was working with his son and started having stroke symptoms. They brought him to the nearest small town hospital who brought him to a large city hospital an hour and a half driving distance away.

At the large city hospital he was pushed to the end of the ER patients. They had 70(?) other people also having stroke symptoms. His symptoms weren’t as severe as others so that’s the reason he was pushed to the end of the list.

Color me suspicious but isn’t that odd that there were so many people with stroke symptoms on the same day?!

[Disclaimer: I am not, and do not claim to be, on the same level as these men. Although, I was inevitably greatly influenced by them. These and other chapters are merely my version of moments I experienced and saw through my own eyes during the final years of the greatest diving company in the World..

I could be full of sht.. And then again.. It all could be true. So there.. Plausible deniability for all of us who were there..]

I only dare to offer a few generic pieces that comprise this area of intrigue, much of which is still hidden unto this day and probably will be forever.

    Houston.. New Orleans..

    One Gulf.. One Team..

    Battlefield Supervisors

[I’ve got to be very careful here.. Treading on hallowed ground..]

Supervisors.. We all have them at one time or another.. But in the offshore oilfields – in this industry – the Gulf was a totally different world..

As far as The Company supervisors and senior divers, on one hand they were dealing with the immutable unforgiving forces of Nature, and on the other hand they were dealing with a group of men who think they are savers of the world with a Superlite and worthy of a Playgirl magazine poster spread. It took Military Men to keep all these egos in line. Putting on that Superlite was like Superman going into the phone booth..

Nature is unforgiving and will exploit every weakness, every time. No room for error. Lives were on the line. Everybody’s. One mistake could compromise the whole operation. There is no book on what we do. The Experience in this Company Industry is all cerebral. Lived, breathed, learned and crafted in the field by our supervisors and senior divers. They were invaluable..

The Company simply could not exist without these men. They were ‘The Company.’ They were divers when the Industry took off and had pioneered breakthrough advancements in deep sea commercial oilfield diving, related equipment and innovative techniques. They expanded the frontier in this Industry. One generation of The Company held all the cards..

Whenever they go.. The Company goes.. And now these supervisors and senior ranked divers were getting older. They had to train a bunch of fresh new younger guys to do it..

In our early days they gave all of us younger guys hell. They wore us down mentally and physically, then built us back up. You had to have mental and physical endurance, strength and self-discipline. Working non-stop.. Two shifts, three shifts, four shifts etc. – back to back.. And not just once.. It seemed to be standard operating procedure.. Challenging us mentally and physically when we were down, when any weakness started to show. Whatever reason made you come out here, it had better be genuine, pretenders will never make it. They will make sure of it.. Because training never ends..

And there’s your buddies, down in the sht with you. Bonds are being forged.. Teamwork.. It’s the only way we will get through this. They were rearranging our psyche.. To get our minds right. There’s no other way out – except for quitting..

If you couldn’t handle it – they understood. They would call a crewboat to take you home – just say so. Nobody would ridicule you. This is not for everybody. They were building [company] divers.. They changed me forever. And I’m a better man for it..

We primarily had two supervisors, one for each shift. One was more of a “Mother Hen” type, knowledgeable, calm, cool, collected, protective, but could brutally and ruthlessly cut you down to size if warranted. Kind of like a knife that has both a refined sharp edge and a rough serrated edge. He was the one who gave me my chance in the very beginning.

The other was a Badass, rough inside outside through and through. No bullshit, no pussies. H’ed cut you and twist the knife just for the fun of it, but was a believer in on the job training. Early on he would rotate us younger guys into the main mix more often. And on occasion he would send us right to the front of the line to find out what we were made of..

Platform removal. Night shift. The upper deck structure is already off. The jacket structure is still in the water. Getting ready for explosives. The supervisor calls me over, and in his low gravelly voice.. “Go suit up..” “Yes Sir..” I was not in regular dive rotation, I was a rank below. But I’ll be going down inside the jacket leg. Sweet. This is a good one. “Penetration” pay. And there was something else down in there with me. “Danger” pay.. No problem. I’ve assisted in these many times.

I go down.. I come up.. My other diver/tender buddies help strip off my gear, I’ve got about a minute left to get into the chamber, a standard SurDO2 dive. I walked across the gangway onto the barge, the deck lights were in my eyes – I saw a shadowy figure standing aside from the group, he had his arms crossed.. ‘Oh sht..’ It’s Mother Hen..

He was on day shift, how did he know. Somebody must have woke him up and told him. He gets in my face up close and personal – so close my lips could reach out and kiss him.. His cold steel blue eyes are cutting through me like lasers. He’s not playing around. Whatever it is, it’s very important to him.

“Who put you in..” Sht, I’m fcked either way now. Stuck between supervisors. But he was the “commanding officer”.. He knew, he probably just wanted to see what I would say. Never ever lie.. Team trust was paramount. I straightly said (“Badass”).. He stepped aside.. I needed to get into the chamber..

I understood his concern though. He explained it to me (Mother Hen took the time to do this for us younger guys). Multiple variables were in play. It was about what was in there with me. And it’s not what you think. It was potentially more dangerous. And some variables were not manned by members of our dive team. I guess he felt he needed to be there for this one.. Protective..

They considered penetration dives serious operations, because they are. There’s only one way in, one way out, and in tight quarters.. You can’t “get away” from anything in case all hell breaks loose.. And if it does, you probably would go down with it, or up with it.. Just depends on the variables.. But the end result is usually the same..

Supervisor Badass.. He did this more than once.. Picking me to do these edgy dives. Maybe he just didn’t want to burn out one of his more experienced divers for another twelve hours.. Or maybe he actually had confidence in me, knowing that I had the balls and mind to do it. Probably a little of both.. I think he might have gotten a slap on the wrist for this one though..

Mother Hen didn’t think I was ready..

Man he kept holding me back.. Mother Hen..

I can’t offer any further depth on these men. Just what I experienced when they were older.. And wiser..

They knew.. They were daring young men once, offspring of the Greatest Generation. The ones who chose to carry the Torch. Keepers of the Flame of American Greatness. Passed onto them by their Forefathers.

Those who trained us went through Vietnam, they were the tip of the spear. And they were not your average soldier.. Far from it. They were ghosts. Professionals. Men With Painted Faces.. Navy Divers, Seals, Marine Recons, LRRPs, Air Force PJs, Army Tunnel Rats, etc. They helped build the best diving company in the world. Their reputation during that era was without question, even among their peers..

The Company had covered all the bases in hiring these men. All gathered in one place and all at the same time. They were a clan. Legendary Men. Pioneers. They accomplished Great Things. They were a Team. And they took care of us.. I will never forget them..

Living and working in close quarters with them, you start to realize things.. They are the greatest and bravest men I have ever known. Nothing was impossible to them. And throughout those final years they managed to keep each and every one of us in the whole company alive..

Even if it took holding some of us younger guys back from time to time..

What better record can you have than that..

‘..You can’t trust a [company] diver with your wallet, your car, or your wife.. But you can trust him with your life..’

This is very, very, very good!

You basically laid out the disciplines that the best ops units in the world are made of.

Marine Force Recon, Seals, SAS…the stuff of disciplines and challenges near to the death at times that never really gets out except for those who went in.

This kind of stuff is a lifesaver, in military applications, but also in other risky civilian applications like yours. I’d rather be beaten to my last bone in training than die because of some stupid mistake, miscalculation, complacency or because someone didn’t have the resolve to break me down into a thousand pieces well knowing it would pay off and maybe even save my life in the crucible hour of the mission. A good bad-ass instructor builds fortitude in his charges.

Not everybody is in your field and familiar with the harshness of it as you present, but your story here is still an excellent read and lesson for anybody going anywhere in anything risky and physically challenging.

I salute you for that, for being an example in your reflections here…and yes, for surviving and not “ringing the bell.” As any good training instructor in the Seals would say, never, ever ring the bell! Pass out, break down a little here or there, vomit if you have to, but bite the damn bullet and don’t ring the bell!

You, sir, would have done good in Sops!

Like I said in my last comment to you in our last exchange, I surely hope you are enjoying a great retirement!

The best of the best, toughest, roughest, etc, is best kept between you and where you were and who you were with. Generally, a good rule in certain occupations. Good call on your part as to how you presented here. There are some things in my own life’s occupation I would never ever want anybody to know except those I was with. No books. No public kudos. Nada. Some things are indeed sacred, and as you say, hallowed ground. People with big attention-seeking egos don’t belong in certain occupations.

I know in our last exchange I said something about liking to see you write a book. Maybe not. Maybe some of the things that would make for a great book to be read, are things that need to be kept guarded and filed away in your own private life. JMOO.

I have never been involved in your field of commercial diving, but have perused diving terms enough to know that from AA6061 to z-knife, the diving glossary alone could make a whole dictionary itself. A helluva lot of things to learn about and remember, any number of which gone wrong could…..well, like you said about nature being unforgiving and exploiting every weakness every time …..I believe you said that in your last comment to me last time when we were discussing the DH/BP explosion and spill.

Same goes for our political leaders…would we have politicians today that stand for Truth and Justice? In the Matter of Drudgery. “And beside this…add…” Peter i. 5

You have inherited the Divine nature, says Peter (v.4), now screw your attention down and form habits, give diligence, concentrate. “Add” means all that character means. No man is born either naturally or supernaturally with character, he has to make character. Nor are we born with habits; we have to form habits on the basis of the new life God has put into us. We are not meant to be illuminated versions, but the common stuff of ordinary life exhibiting the marvel of the grace of God. Drudgery is the touchstone of character. The great hindrance in spiritual life is that we will look for big things to do. “Jesus took a towel…and began to wash the disciples’ feet.”

There are times when there is no illumination and no thrill, but just the daily round, the common task. Routine is God’s way of saving us between our times of inspiration. Do not expect God always to give you His thrilling minutes, but learn to live in the domain of drudgery by the power of God.

It is the “adding” that is difficult. We say we do not expect God to carry us to heaven on flowery beds of ease, and yet we act as if we did! The tiniest detail in which I obey has all the omnipotent power of the grace of God behind it. If I do my duty, not for duty’s sake, but because I believe God is engineering my circumstances, then at the very point of my obedience the whole superb grace of God is mine through the Atonement.

Undoubtedly some of the most beautiful country on God’s Green Earth and some of the nicest people you would ever be lucky to meet.

Then I reconnected to the world. Wish I could just tune out permanently and live a peaceful life.

I therefore dedicate this music to my trip and hope you enjoy it as much as I.

Germany has joined the WaPo in denying Iran’s involvement in the Gulf tanker attacks. Of course Germany’s being Iran’s biggest post-Revolution trading partner and its willingly providing banned WMD equipment and supplies to any Moslem country yearning to destroy Israel didn’t play into its decision at all. Holocaust denial in Germany is illegal but…

The Mullahs Promise “Demise of Israel” and American Civilization
      by Majid Rafizadeh
      June 15, 2019 at 5:00 am

Iran recently produced a program on its state television channel demonstrating that the government is currently practicing missile attacks, with the purpose of carrying out actual attacks on Israel…. The video excerpt included in the television broadcast showed how the operations the Iranians are striving to put into action will bombard Tel Aviv.

The Iranian government continues to defy international standards, as it refuses to act as a rational and constructive state, even apart from its repeated malign behavior in the Gulf of Oman this week. Iran’s Supreme Guide Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who enjoys the final say in all of Iran’s domestic and foreign policies, recently proclaimed to the youth in Iran that they will soon witness the demise of Israel and all of American civilization. This announcement was confirmed on the Supreme Leader’s official website.

Khamenei made Iran’s intentions clear while meeting with students. “You young people,” he declared, “should be assured that you will witness the demise of the enemies of humanity, meaning the degenerate American civilization, and the demise of Israel”.

Yes, and the West sort of believes that all it has to do is pat them on the turban, enable their ranting and eventually the small patches of pro-Western Islamics will persevere.

Something’s changed in our wishy-washy society that believes in the equality of and right to exist of both good and evil.

    lilbirdee12’s prayer:

Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.

Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.

Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.

Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.

We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.

In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.

A prayer for Justice Kavanaugh and Col. Flynn:

    Prayer to St. Michael

    St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle;
be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the devil.
    May God rebuke him, we humbly pray;
and do you, O prince of the heavenly host,
    by the power of God,
thrust into hell Satan and the other evil spirits
who prowl about the world for the ruin of souls.

In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.
