Sunday March 24th – Open Thread

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. THY WILL BE DONE, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but DELIVER US FROM EVIL.

For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen †

    Who Is Jesus?
    MARCH 24, 2019

    Matthew 16:13-20
13 Now when Jesus came into the district of Caesarea Philippi, He was asking His disciples, Who do people say that the Son of Man is?” 14 And they said, Some say John the Baptist; and others, Elijah; but still others, Jeremiah, or one of the prophets.” 15 He said to them, But who do you say that I am?” 16 Simon Peter answered, You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” 17 And Jesus said to him, Blessed are you, Simon Barjona, because flesh and blood did not reveal this to you, but My Father who is in heaven. 18 I also say to you that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build My church; and the gates of Hades will not overpower it. 19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; and whatever you bind on earth shall have been bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall have been loosed in heaven.” 20 Then He warned the disciples that they should tell no one that He was the Christ.

When Jesus asked His disciples, “Who do you say that I am?” Peter replied, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God” (Matt. 16:15-16). The Lord asks us the same question, though not with audible words. There are many answers, but let’s check Scripture for three overarching truths:

    1. Jesus is God the Son—a member of the Trinity. After His baptism, the heavens opened, the Holy Spirit descended like a dove, and the Father Himself announced, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well-pleased” (Matt. 3:17).

    2. Christ is the Savior of mankind. When Adam and Eve chose to sin against Jehovah, there was a separation between God and man. In Old Testament times, an animal sacrifice was necessary to atone for the wrong in one’s life. But that was a temporary solution, until Jesus—the perfect sacrifice—atoned once for all sin. He was the only One who could satisfy God’s requirement for a Savior, because He had no sin (2 Corinthians 5:21 He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.

    3. He is our High Priest. In Old Testament times, a mediator—often a temple priest—interceded between God and man, offering an animal’s blood as atonement for sin. Jesus’ death and resurrection took away the need for such sacrifices. Christ now stands as our intercessor, the bridge between Holy God and sinful man (Heb. 7:25 Therefore He is able also to save forever those who draw near to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them. 26 For it was fitting for us to have such a high priest, holy, innocent, undefiled, separated from sinners and exalted above the heavens;

Who do you believe Jesus is? These characteristics of Christ are taken directly from the Bible. Do they align with your understanding? Check your view of Him against the standard of Scripture. Then ask the Lord to reveal Himself so that you can know Him accurately and personally.

I hope you caught that interview, Mr. Spencer with Fr. Josiah, I posted it the other day. I was VERY impressed with Mr. Spencer’s breadth of knowledge! I’ve known about his site for a few years, that was the first in depth interview of him I’d seen….

We are watching a series that, I think, was originally on the history channel and is now on amazon prime for “free” (if one is a prime member…yes, I know, Amazon/leftist but we have cut the cord to all else including an instant cut to Netflix several yrs ago when they went to far). Its called “The Men Who Built America”. It is very well done. Most of the films are reenactments with voice over narration.

There are segments of current successful businessmen, including then Businessman and now President Trump –>> a fun bonus for us every time we see him as I count that as learning as much about his point of view and who he is as much as I learn about the historical figures.

We are watching it for history, although my son has no idea I am counting it as school. He thinks we are watching it for fun in the evenings and on lunch break! 😉

American history is my favorite topic that I have studied for years and yet I am fascinated and learning much. The series does not make the tycoons out to be bad guys although it does show their failings and mistakes. It does not focus on the spending and the so called gilded aspects of the decades. Terrible labor conditions are mentioned (justly so – those were really bad conditions that today’s snowflakes can’t even fathom and those conditions did not reform!).

The focus is on the innovation, success, invention, business, a little on personal lives (esp. as to how their personal lives affect who they are as businessmen such as Vanderbilt’s religious life and Morgan’s relationship w/his father) and some on economy.

Really well done and nice to not have overemphasis on leftist/dem talking points.

    Second Sunday of Great Lent

On this day the Orthodox Christian Church celebrates Saint Gregory Palamas, Archbishop of Thessalonika.

    Dismissal Hymn.
“Light of Orthodoxy, pillar and teacher of the Church, adornment of monastics, invincible champion of theologians, O Gregory thou wonderworker, boast of Thessalonica, herald of grace: ever pray that our souls be saved.”

“O sacred and divine organ of wisdom, clear trumpet of theology, we praise thee with one accord, O Gregory of divine speech. But as a mind standing before the Primordial Mind, direct our mind to Him, O Father, that we may cry: Rejoice, O herald of grace.”

Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.

Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.

Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.

Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.

We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.

In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.
