Representative Devin Nunes Files Major Lawsuit Against Twitter for ‘Smears’ and ‘Shadowbans’…

House Intelligence Committee ranking member Devin Nunes has filed a $250 million lawsuit against Twitter as a media platform curator.

(Via Fox News) California GOP Rep. Devin Nunes filed a major lawsuit seeking $250 million in compensatory damages and $350,000 in punitive damages against Twitter and a handful of its users on Monday, accusing the social media site of “shadow-banning conservatives” including himself to influence the 2018 elections, systematically censoring opposing viewpoints and totally “ignoring” lawful complaints of repeated abusive behavior.

In a complaint filed in Virginia state court on Monday, obtained by Fox News, Nunes charged that Twitter wanted to derail his work on the House Intelligence Committee, which he chaired until 2019, as he probed alleged and apparent surveillance abuses by the government. Nunes said Twitter was guilty of “knowingly hosting and monetizing content that is clearly abusive, hateful and defamatory – providing both a voice and financial incentive to the defamers – thereby facilitating defamation on its platform.”

The lawsuit alleges defamation, conspiracy, and negligence, and seeks not only damages, but also an injunction compelling Twitter to turn over the identities behind numerous accounts he says have harassed and defamed him. The lawsuit is separate from Nunes’ work on the House Intelligence Committee, where he is now the ranking member.  (read more)

As the carcasses begin piling up during the discovery phase, deals arrived to before the court room may well make sense.

If I am Devin Nunes, some few $$$ along with dragging Twitter through the slop Pitt will become tandem goals. Such a well deserved journey for Mr. Nunes.

Heard Nunes speaking on Fox (maybe Tucker) and Nunes pointed out that with Twitter and Facebook and Google censoring and blocking conservatives to allow only the Dem/commie viewpoints …

… that that manipulation of perspective places them squarely in the realm of Content Crafters / Content Fabricators … and no longer the impartial blank-slate public bulletin boards they claim to be.

That’s a possible avenue that would allow some regulation or anti-trust action or lawsuits to gain footing, I suspect.

Not a lawyer, but that’s the gist of what Nunes was getting at.

An ability to discriminate in regard what gets posted along partisan lines clearly eliminates any false designation as a public platform. Yes a rigid public platform as displayed.

I think the problem had to get to be a certain size before they could. There will be gold in the discovery – that wouldn’t be there if this problem had been nipped earlier. Sometimes a “sin” has to be overripe before justice can be served.

    • Yep. Congressman Nunes is not in it for the $$. As mentioned above, discovery will be very interesting.

Twitter and a few other platforms need suing, the censorship is out of control, it will hurt PJT in 2020 if this is not dealt with.
Thanks Mr Nunes, it’s about time!!

  3. Finally.

Liz Warren’s proposal to shrink them doesn’t address the heart of the issue: censoring conservatives, violating privacy and helping dictatorships. This does.

When Twitter banned the joke #LearnToCode for Snowflake Journalists, I discovered “The Non-Permitted Ballad of Jack Dorsey” from Johnny PayPal’s classic LP “Live at the Folsom Street Twitter Headquarters in San Francisco”:

    I’m up here banning hashtags
    like plastic straws and bags
I got no sense of humor
    when it comes to gags
    I’m stuck in Twitter HQ
    time keeps draggin’ on
    but that meme keeps rollin’
    on down to San Antone.

    When Dorsey was a baby,
    my mama told me “Jack,
    Don’t mess with peoples’ punchlines
Don’t be a Free Speech hack.”
But I doxxed a man Encino
    just to make him choke
    the crime that he committed:
    Making Unauthorized Jokes.

I bet there’s Trump folk tweetin’
    And sayin’ what they want
They’re probably tossing back to liberals
    their own silly taunt
But I know they had it comin’
    Speech just can’t be Free
But those Trumpers keep a speakin’
    And that’s what tortures me

Well if they freed me from Headquarters
    If the Internet was mine
I would ban all pesky hashtags
    that didn’t walk the line
    Far from San Francisco
    Is where I’d rather be
    heading the Joke Inspection Bureau
    in Washington, D.C.!

Devin Nunes is not a lone target of Twitter’s tyranny. The (5) named defendants are certainly not the only perps corrupting corporate social media commerce and I would anticipate more added. If not a class action, many more lawsuits against Twitter’s corrupt organization will inevitably follow the Nunes template. Disclosure is going to be very interesting. ’bout time!

  13. Let’s play by their rules. Sue them into oblivion. Sue them into bankruptcy. Sue them until they are run out of business. Sue them to shut them up. Sue them until they cry MAGA! Was that last one over the top?
I’m going to love seeing this go into the Dicovery phase. Something tells me that they will try and settle before then. And something tells me that Nunes is not interested in anything but the Discovery process.
Now let’s see. Who’s next? Facebook, Instagram, Apple, Google, and so on and so forth. Grab the popcorn baby. And thanks to a helpful tip from another Treeper, in order to prevent overdosing on popcorn, wash it down with a good wine.

“Free speech” has long ago been only a catch phrase in the USA and has been systematically battered beyond recognition by lefty dominated gov’t institutions and by overgrown lefty social media “giants” like Twitter and other companies that condemn rational Conservative opinion as evil. Congress has only staged hearings for appearances but has done nothing–until Rep. Nunes’s intrepid and timely court case.

While the speech of many patriotic Conservatives has been silenced, the worst among us hide behind the charade of free speech while they spew their untold hate, lies and vitriol with impunity. But, the President and Ranking Member Devin Nunes are not on that protected list. I had no idea how much evil had been hurled against Devin and I hope he wins. His court case has already opened many eyes and minds to the extent of the evil.

It was only a matter of time when a major push back would occur but now the young, innocent and kind teenager Sandman and brave patriot Nunes have decided the actual dates of that long overdue push back.

Nunes’ team better petition the court to get in there with a computer forensics team to make images of all the server hard drives and backups so coding forensics guys can study the evolution and various iterations of the so-called “algorithms”

Then, we’d hope for an inside whistleblower who recorded all the voice conversations at strategy sessions (“how do we stop these frikken conservative pissants? who’s got ideas?)

Ah, I can wish at least, right?

Nimrodman, I’m convinced there are no algorithms. It’s just guys in a back room who decide what needs to be blocked today to protect the liberal/progressive/commie agenda. They probably get phone calls from Jack Dorsey and assorted powerful others (like Merkel – suppress truth about the invasion I sponsored from the German people). There, that’s your algorithm.
