Where is truth to be found? Certainly not on 60 Minutes or the rest of MSM. Congress? That’s a laugh. Best hints at the truth, for me, in addition to the President’s tweets, speeches and impromptu pressers, and the MSM version of reality, have been here at CTH, Breitbart, Zerohedge, John Solomon, Kimberley Strassel, Maria Bartiromo, and a certain site associated with the number 17 never to be named here. Of these, the first and last appear to have the most inside access to the President (or else magical insight into the President’s thinking), yet they unfold very different narratives, as if standing on either side of an elephant, reporting what they see. One sees an undrained swamp, its slithy critters still in control of everything flowing through the swamp, a big tent and you ain’t in it, warily striving to constrain this new elephant claiming dominion, to kill it, or at least limit its dominion to small acreage. The other sees the results of two-years of top secret military-style preparations about to explode to drain the swamp all the way back to its deepest roots, connected underground around the world, meticulously set in place with nearly perfect knowledge of the motives and plans, strengths and weaknesses of every single important slithy tove.

Perhaps truth today is that we are seeing two views of the President’s thinking, because these are two views of the President’s reality, the VSG elephant locked in struggle with the swamp, no mortal blow felled yet, but escalation definitely picking up: the swamp wants him dead, but in any event contained; the President wants the swamped drained, but in any event, to avoid being killed and to expand the acreage he controls.

The President has been giving ground to the Dems at the border, in the House and to the DS in the Senate, while still making progress in Senate numbers and the Judiciary, and in public opinion. He has brought out the worst in his enemies, so that they can’t help but do themselves grievous harm.

The truth is that a big battle is about to unfold, and we will just have to see how it plays out.

Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg returns to the court for the first time since her cancer surgery in December

Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg will be at the court for a private conference on Friday, marking the first time that she has attended a conference in person since she underwent cancer surgery last month.
The development comes about seven weeks after surgeons removed about half of Ginsburg’s left lung in a Dec. 21 operation.

This idiotic bill pass with a HUGE majority of the GOP voting for it (including Marsha Blackburn, new Senator TN). 83 to 16.

But who voted against it? 5 Dems voted against it: Booker, Gilibrand, Harris, Markey & Warren.
Notice what they have in common? Running for President in the Dem primary. Did they vote against so that their base can’t be angry about voting for any money for the border? Or did they want to be able to avoid responsibility for the negatives that come out of this bill with regard to crime, etc.? or both?

Which GOP voted against it? Cruz & Paul – that is expected and Good. Unexpected to me are Rubio, Scott, Toomey — reelection? Planning to Run for POTUS at some time in the future?

Braun, Cotton, Cruz, Hawley, Inhofe, Lee, Paul, Rubio, Sasse, Scott, Toomey — all others Voted for this mess including Marsha Blackburn.

President Trump had no choice other than to veto and then have it sent right back to him by the same people. This bill was passed by a Super Majority ++. No way would 23 Senators drop off in support or they would not have voted for it in the first place.

My speculation yesterday has proven correct. PDJT just checkmated Pelosi, Schumer, and the Dems for 2020. Stupid Beto even said tear down existing wall. The chess gambit had 4 moves:

    1. Very visible oval office owning of shutdown due to border security crisis. Dems refuse to negotiate.
    2. Reopen for 3 weeks, Dems deliver a pathetic restricted bill. But does provide some funding for Rio Grande sector. All the restrictions expire in September.
    3. Declare ‘National emergency …and other executive means’. Expects Dems to challenge 10USC2808 in 9th. That is a double dare to expose their resolute open borders no matter what stance. PDJT expects to win at SCOTUS much closer to election.
    4. Meanwhile, ‘other executive means’ is 10USC284, which has nothing to do with the national emergency. And he has $8 billion to fund it. Wall done before election.

And the beautiful part is DACA is still in play at SCOTUS. PDJT knows it will be killed there. The outcry will be leverage to provide some limited DACA path to citizenship in return for the sorely needed immigration law overhaul.

Tell me, why do we need to “deal” on DACA? We were promised it would be killed day one. Not used as a pawn to get us the wall Mexico that was to pay for… And if you think the wall will be done by the election you don’t understand the legal process and injunctions. DACA is still allowed while it is being litigated, all thanks to a Lefty judge. Meanwhile, the wall will be halted while it works it way through the courts. The 3 month travel ban took a year and a half to litigate, and all the while it was suspended.

Bottom line: this is an appropriations bill for a few departments halfway thru the fiscal year (FY)…and, if the President “forgets” to spend some of the money allocated, what can the Dems do? They can take him to court, of course, but that takes time and the end of the FY in September will be approaching rapidly when unspent funds go away. I trust Mick has this all figured out…but what do I know?

I think Trump’s goal was to get any kind of funding from the dems on the wall regardless of all the tripwires they were going to put in. This makes it really hard to make a case against him in court saying that building the wall is illegal or immoral when you yourself have given him money to do so.

The media was going to play this as a loss for Trump no matter what, but now he gets to tell everyone that Nancy and Chuck both “helped” with funding the beautiful wall.

He did sound out of character in his speech today when he started talking about all the incoming lawsuits and where things go from here. Almost like exasperation at the process or a weariness. Not traits that he usually shows so I’m wondering what the reason is. Because with Trump, there is always a method to the madness.

Challenging Trump’s wall building in 9th will only prevent his administration from building walls in California and Arizona. New Mexico is in 10th, and Texas is in 5th. The latter, so far, is sympathetic to Trump on immigration questions. In other words, we will get half of our walls up before we are ready to track the other half.

Open borders bring in drugs, consumers, federal money to states that is based on population, illegal aliens who need taken care of by government, creates drug addicts who need taken care of by government, crime which needs solved by government, activism which is also in many cases paid for by government, keeps housing market up, keeps wages down, keeps public schools packed to the gills, creates new public schools and separate programs all funded by government, more welfare, more programs, more economic activity.

Really it keeps the administrative state in power and weakens we the citizens. Reason is not used by these people. Money and protecting themselves is why they exist.

This is as important as the wall in the long term, because the demographic changes are turning America into a third world country a little more every single day. And has been since we have been rewarding illegality with the coveted American citizenship beginning in 1983 as a result of left wing judges dicta – meaning, not even the ruling opinion, just an added comment. This should have been challenged immediately; giving away rights to the country to those who have succeeded in winning at Red Rover (Ann Coulter reference) is unAmerican and patently illogical.

Like negotiating with terrorists, we should NEVER be rewarding criminal actions.

I have begun to think maybe President Trump is waiting for a more reliably conservative Supreme Court before signing such an EO, but we really don’t have time to wait.

There should not be an EO on birthright citizenship. It is a question of interpreting 14A in light of US v Wong Kim Ark (1898). The tactical legal question is how to properly get the issue to SCOTUS, the only place it can be constitutionally resolved, as the erroneous ‘anybody including those here illegally’ presumption is built into present INA laws that POTUS is obligated to uphold.

Another example of the constitutional ‘penumbra’, same as ‘right to privacy’.

Yes, which is why you need the executive order. Right now the Social Security Administration, a part of the executive branch, is erroneously issuing social security numbers to children of illegal immigrants. Trump needs to issue an order to the SSA to stop doing this. Then some illegal will sue the SSA to issue the number and we can have the legal battle.

He could state that at least one of the parents has to be a citizen or a legal resident who has applied for citizenship. I would so love that!

News hosts on CBS had a casual conversation about a literal attempted coup against the president of the United States. The story of former Deputy Director of the FBI Andrew McCabe assembling high-ranking members of the intelligence and law enforcement communities to discuss attempting to influence the president’s cabinet by invoking the 25th Amendment is crazy. But that craziness doesn’t seem to bother any of these “journalists.” We play the audio and address it all.

Trump needs to find someone to enlist American First new Senators and House members to WIN in 2020. Maybe a PAC run by Don JR and Kimberly. They would know what to look for in a candidate. Maybe one of Brad Pascale’s assistants to do polling for them to make sure the districts like the candidate. PDJT has to do this all by himself. The two R House members in my area were primaried we only have Dems here. Not sure they were ever really behind PTrump but probably better than what we have. I know he did not want to sign the bill BUT by the Senate/House votes it is clear they had enough to OVER ride the veto. So how do you make lemonade out of bitter lemons?

You say to the turtle–i am going to declare a National emergency on the southern border. I will sign this bad bill to avoid a shutdown—if you support me on the National emergency.

In Communism, you have no countries, no nations. It is a one world government, governed not by the Haves, because there are no Haves any longer. Each person is both an owner of the means of production and a laborer, actually making the goods and services.

There are no borders. No wars between nations, or groups or factions of people. No terrorists. How can you be a terrorist if you have no enemy?

Also, no religion. No in group / out group, or terrorists, or Jihads, or Crusades.

This gets sold to people little by little. My wife shocked our young-adult daughter by showing her the real John Lennon our daughter was worshiping. A drunk absent-father cheater. Yet the Communists love “Imagine,” and love using Lennon as a symbol to promote this pie-in-the-sky idea.

That is the one side. The pie-in-the-sky idea is a false world of Good-Versus-Evil. In this world, you either accept the Commuist ideas as good, or you have not yet Seen The Light, and you are either ignorant or evil.

Jimi asked “Are You Experienced?” This is the idea. Jimi sang of the “white collar conservative walking down the street.” Nowadays, people want to know if you are “woke.”

“Virtue Signaling,” such as “going vegan,” or being “into yoga” etc. are ways to subtly indicate that you are one of the virtuous people.

It is at comic book level stupidity.

On the other side: The Bad Guys. “Corporate” this and that. Being a “patriot” means you are for countries / nations, and so are “for” “perpetual war” at the behest of the “corporations.” “The generals sat, and the lines on the map moved from side to side.”

Etc. “Patriot,” “nationalist,” are dog-whistle analogies for “NAZI.” The Communists know how their ideals are practically the same as Hilter, so they hurried up to shape Hilter as an “arch-conservative” rather than a very leftist Progressive, wanting control of many aspects of your life, and wanting world dominion.

Anything in uniform is “bad.” Military. Cops. Boy Scouts. As a young man, I was very involved in Dem politics. We had this subtle disdain for military, although it was not clear or well-formed. I would say most of us had a certain level of disdain for police. We had this “Bad Guy” caricature of most LEO as Barney Fife weak man wanting to be tough guy or to be white supremist totalitarian, but just a cog in that machine, while wanting a Leader to boot-lick worship.

If I ran these ideas by my old cronies, they would agree. I have noted my boys are in Scouts. My family does not like this paramilitary stuff. We have gotten them gently exposed to the idea of “firearms” and so they don’t balk as much as if we threw firearm training all at once in their faces. My boys, BTW, are first, safety-conscious, and second, good marksmen. But their grandma will not allow toy gun play, etc.

Cults work by forming this Black/White view of the world. You get drawn in bit by bit. Once you are “in,” you CANNOT perceive how wrong you are; the Evil of the Bad Guy is too strong a distraction for you to be upset with: Beto wanting to tear down a wall, with an FBI that looks the other way when terrorists are plotting, etc.

Still talking about how the numbers of illegal border crossers is down from other times in our past such as the early 2000s. More twists and fake news.

    1) A Cat 5 Hurricane in the past does not make a current Cat 3 or 4 Hurricane any less of an emergency. A 7.5 earthquake is no less of an emergency now just because we have had 8.5 earthquakes in the past.

    2) Our past Presidents not calling the past higher numbers a National Emergency is a stain on their record not a standard by which we decide all National Emergencies in the future. Many of us think it Was more of an Emergency/urgent/clear and present danger to our US citizens then and is still Emergency/urgent/clear and present danger now.

    3) What number of illegal border crossings would be acceptable and not a danger to US citizens? Remember that those caught are not the totality of those coming across! Those are only the illegal border crossers who are caught! Some estimates are that we currently catch 50% and others that we are catching much smaller of those crossing.

    4) We had 396,000 illegal border crossers caught between points of entry last year. The first 3 months of F2019 we have already had 180,000 caught! That is a Huge increase and is overloading our facilities.

    5) What constitutes an emergency? How many terrorists with nuclear material coming across in areas where we have not even tried to secure our border would it take to do serious damage to the US? How many more illegal border crossers can our tax payers support? How many more criminal illegal border crossers must we tolerate killing our country, transporting drugs, etc.?

Katherine…as always an excellent post. IMHO…not a fan of emergency…it’s not Constitutional. National Emergencies Act, Sections 201 and 301 were part of the debacle started by Teddy Roosevelt to blur the separation of powers and create a “collaboration of powers.” ALL legislation MUST be within the confines of the Constitution and those powers specifically enumerated to the Federal government. if not enumerated to the Feds…then per 10A, the power/authority belongs to the States. And wouldn’t it make more sense for States to declare emergencies and take care of their own than the “national welfare” and “control mongering” we see done by an out-of-control Federal government.

IMHO – President Trump could have found the $ for border security within the executive branch (already allocated by Congress). This would have been in line with the Constitution.

National Emergencies Act, Sections 201 and 301

    Overview
The National Emergencies Act (NEA) authorizes the president to declare a “national emergency.” A declaration under NEA triggers emergency authorities contained in other federal statutes.

    What the Law Does
The NEA authorizes the president to declare a national emergency, which declaration activates emergency powers contained in other federal statutes.

    How the Law Works
The NEA does not provide any specific emergency authority on its own, but relies on emergency authorities provided in other statutes. A national emergency declaration allows for the activation of these other statutory authorities. Emergency statutory provisions are not activated automatically, however; they must be specifically identified in the president’s declaration before these authorities may be given effect.

    Declaration
NEA Section 201 authorizes the president to declare a national emergency. The proclamation of a national emergency must be immediately transmitted to Congress and published in the Federal Register. Under NEA Section 301, statutory emergency authorities enabled by the national emergency declaration cannot be exercised until the president specifies the provisions of law under which the president or other officials will act. Such specification may be made either in the declaration or in subsequent Executive Orders published in the Federal Register and transmitted to Congress.

    Termination
A national emergency can be terminated if the president issues a proclamation or if Congress enacts a joint resolution terminating the emergency, which the President may sign or veto. The veto may be overridden by 2/3 vote of the House and Senate.

A national emergency will terminate automatically upon the anniversary of the proclamation unless the president renews the proclamation by transmitting notice to Congress within a 90-day period prior to the anniversary date and publishing it in the Federal Register.

I didn’t see anywhere if Trump signed the Bill and went against over 100 GOP House Congress Reps that voted against it. Did he sign it with provisions that included begging Dem mayors to allow construction of the wall etc? I know he called an EO but did he sign?

Sure miss sundance at this crucial time. Must be gathering all the facts first.

No, I didn’t see that, but I did hear that he did not sign it in the Rose Garden, he only declared the emergency. From everything I can find he only dealt with the National Emergency Declaration and hasn’t done anything with the bill yet. If he’s signed the bill I can’t imagine the left and media (I know, they’re the same thing) would be crowing about it. I have searched all over the internet and haven’t found anything that says it was signed yet. I’m wondering if he’s having second thoughts, especially after meeting with the Angel Moms.

The “begging Dem mayors to allow construction of the wall” part of the Bill only pertains to the “use of any funds made available by this Act”. So, PTrump can use funds from another source to easily circumvent this provision.

That’s great to hear bakocarl as long as the courts including SCOTUS don’t rule against the EO and his own GOP Uniparty members don’t oppose his appropriation of funds from various departments.

This is surreal. Trump signing a Dem Bill that most Dems voted for and over 100 of his GOP House members voted NO on is highly unusual. I hope it all works out in the end.

Its not a normal EO it is a Proclamation defined in law by the National Emergency Act.

It has Congressional authority behind it unlike an Executive order. Which means the President’s power is at its Maximum to quote the Supreme Court.

One thing I noted – we all know President Trump is an empathetic , caring guy ( so different than cold fish narcissist Obama) and I think he was genuinely moved by his last minute meeting with Angel Moms in the WH , and I think that somber mood carried over a bit into the beginning of his speech , but he got angrier as it went on as he talked about the callus disregard that DC Uniparty and MSM have for ordinary Americans . POTUS was definitely angrier and more forceful than usual and your Angel Mom theory is a reasonable one. Another might be the way the Uniparty GOP has become more openly hostile and active against him as in another last minute rushed crappy Bill with “poison pills.”
I suspect his recent 52% approval rating infuriated and energized his Uniparty opposition that want him out in 2020.

    Observations from a smaller limb.

Industrial production capacity was down from last month to this month. January came in at 78.7% while February fell to 78.2% the first drop in eight months. Industrial production itself fell 0.6% M/M. I expected a slow down simply because markets don’t travel in a straight line and December simply kicked A$$.

Meanwhile Y/Y still up over 3.8%. The Empire State Manufacturing Index came in at 8.8 above the projected 7.1

    https://www.federalreserve.gov/releases/g17/

Next up University of Michigan consumer sentiment jumped from 90.7 to 95.5. I’m calling that a serious move up.

U.S. import prices fell for the third straight month -.05%. That means over the last three months import prices are down 3.1%. You think maybe all those financial experts may have gotten it wrong on the tariffs.

    Breakdown:
    30 day; 2.29% // 60 day 0.74% // 90 day 1.05 %.// foreclosures. .095%.

Foreclosures and delinquencies spiked in both California and the hurricane states. Otherwise we are getting there, this is going to fun this year.

San Diego officials warn of spike in ‘wind-borne’ children’s disease

Health officials in San Diego are warning parents about a suspected wind-borne disease that has sickened 16 children since the beginning of 2019. They caution that the tally will likely rise through March, as Kawasaki disease, which can lead to heart disease and sudden death, has been tracked in a winter-spring seasonality pattern

    https://www.countynewscenter.com/kawasak….

    What is Kawasaki Disease?
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kawasaki_d….

Kawasaki disease is rare. It affects between 8 and 67 per 100,000 people under the age of five except in Japan where it affects 124 per 100,000

(Yet here We are, 16 Kids affected in 2019 alone)
Isn’t San Diego the area Where the Caravan Arrived recently?
    I think it was…

    • Kawasaki disease is not spread by person-to-person contact, so unless the caravan consists of a bunch of Japanese boys under 5, they are irrelevant. It’s also easy to treat once diagnosed – IV immunoglobulin and aspirin. Works within a couple of hours. The risks you describe only apply if it is NOT treated. But any persistent fever in a child can have dire consequences and cause organ damage if not treated.

    10 U.S. Code § 12302 – Ready Reserve

    (a) In time of national emergency declared by the President after January 1, 1953, or when otherwise authorized by law, an authority designated by the Secretary concerned may, without the consent of the persons concerned, order any unit, and any member not assigned to a unit organized to serve as a unit, in the Ready Reserve under the jurisdiction of that Secretary to active duty for not more than 24 consecutive months.
    (b) To achieve fair treatment as between members in the Ready Reserve who are being considered for recall to duty without their consent, consideration shall be given to—
    (1) the length and nature of previous service, to assure such sharing of exposure to hazards as the national security and military requirements will reasonably allow;
    (2) family responsibilities; and
    (3) employment necessary to maintain the national health, safety, or interest.
The Secretary of Defense shall prescribe such policies and procedures as he considers necessary to carry out this subsection.
    (c) Not more than 1,000,000 members of the Ready Reserve may be on active duty, without their consent, under this section at any one time.

I was listening to Rush today give his opinion about President Trump’s press conference discussing the National Emergency, budget and trade deals. Rush stated that in his opinion both parties put this mess together to show President Trump that they will never support him in anything and use it to attempt to discourage President Trump’s supporters and convince them to support someone else in the next election.

The way people are turning on each other at this website today, Rush may have a point.

Am I happy with the budget, of course not. However, I do like he signed the National Emergency Declaration first and talked about another National Emergency Declaration he would continue that was implemented under President Obama.

In looking at the big picture, the President’s options were limited. To have the government shut down again would serve no useful purpose and like it or not he would get blamed. Yes, he could have supported another continuing resolution but we would be back here again in several weeks. The bottom line is most of the Senate and House are not supportive of President Trump and will do everything they can to try to discourage him and us. They will lie to him and us to get whatever they want. President Trump is our best chance to keep the country that we all love. He is not perfect, but given all the flaming arrows he is taking for us, we need to support him.

I wonder if in 18 months or so if PTrump can use his unpopularity amongst Congressional members of BOTH parties as a positive selling point as he continues to educate the public? Would love for him to extend that education to actively using the Uniparty theme and how cartels, corporations and foreign entities own Congress (redacting intelligence reports would help!). Bet the RNC wouldn’t like it but by then they will be locked in to the election process.
