Sunday January 27th – Open Thread

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. THY WILL BE DONE, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but DELIVER US FROM EVIL.

For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen †

Two bombs minutes apart tore through a Roman Catholic cathedral on a southern Philippine island where Muslim militants are active, killing at least 20 people and wounding 111 others during a Sunday Mass, officials said.

Witnesses said the first blast inside the Jolo cathedral in the provincial capital sent churchgoers, some of them wounded, to stampede out of the main door. Army troops and police posted outside were rushing in when the second bomb went off about one minute later near the main entrance, causing more deaths and injuries. The military was checking a report that the second explosive device may have been attached to a parked motorcycle.

    Your Convictions About God

God is __________. How do you fill in that blank? Based on your experience or on the truth found in God’s Word? The Bible should be the source of our convictions about God. The God of the Bible is omnipresent, omnipotent, and omniscient. Our image of God must be consistent with His Word.

This made me smile. A dear, dear woman walked up to me during the ‘coffee hour’ after services on my very first visit to an Orthodox Christian Church. She smiled at me and said, “God is BIG.” I will never forget that

Shocked that the Catholic Church leadership will not take action for the unborn in New York.. From the Vatican to Timothy Dolan, there is nothing new under the Sun. We know who they work for….

Psalm 83 King James Version (KJV)

12 Who said, Let us take to ourselves the houses of God in possession.

13 O my God, make them like a wheel; as the stubble before the wind.

    14 As the fire burneth a wood, and as the flame setteth the mountains on fire;

15 So persecute them with thy tempest, and make them afraid with thy storm.

16 Fill their faces with shame; that they may seek thy name, O Lord.

17 Let them be confounded and troubled for ever; yea, let them be put to shame, and perish:

18 That men may know that thou, whose name alone is Jehovah, art the most high over all the earth.

I’m aware of who Darwin was but never knew he suffered from ill health. His dedication to his work, despite these problems (including emotional) is admirable.

    From wiseGEEK:

How Did Charles Darwin’s Poor Health and Anxiety Affect His Scientific Work?

    [snip]

Charles Darwin is well known for the five-year voyage aboard the Beagle that he took to the Galápagos Islands as a young man, and his later contributions to the science of evolution. He explained his revolutionary theory, including a process he called natural selection, in his 1859 book On the Origin of Species. But what is less well known is that Darwin lived a very reclusive life after returning to England from the Beagle voyage.

andy, my apt. building was built in the early 1940’s so it has NO insulation. For weeks, I have been wearing 4 layers of clothing (including a couple of beanie caps), indoors. We use to have radiators but when the boiler in the basement died we had to convert to electric baseboards – they SUCK! Wednesday we are suppose to be at -14 (daytime), certainly the night temps will be far worse, probably below -20 to -25. 😭

        • I remember, as a young “son” or kid on sicily DZ, (Ft Bragg), at night, fascinated, as C-130’s or the big jets screaming, coming over head, over the drop zone, paratroopers, live ammo, (tracers) as troopers dropped down in shows of demonstrations/live fire exercises ..
Families were encouraged to watch, watching jeeps pick-up the wounded, (yes there was those whom actually got shot) or others falling into pine trees.. Back in the Early 70’s.(70~73)
It was a sight to see..
Families “kept” there until the “exercise” was over.. I fondly remember the porta potties, Or “Latrines for you old guys would say.. Quite the smelly show..

    lilbirdee12’s prayer:

Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.

Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.

Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.

Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.

We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.

In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.

Something to follow up on… a teacher in Castle Rock, CO doxed a kid she doesn’t know in Northern Kentucky, claiming that the high schooler was “Hitler Youth” because in her imagination, this boy was in Washington DC with the Covington Kids.

The teacher has been temporarily suspended, put on leave? There is hopefully a legally team working on suing her and possibly the principal who was aware of this teacher’s ugly, hate-filled tweets (the doxing wasn’t the only example — there were also ugly incitements to violence against border patrol agents etc.)

If you’re in Colorado, maybe follow up in a few weeks to see if the teacher was re-hired and back in the classrooms where she had been teaching. THIS type of incitement to violence disgraces the teaching profession and schools all over the country; bullies innocent children; and sets an example of gross bullying in politics and other situations. It needs to stop, and where it’s supported by tax dollars, those dollars need to be taken away for violation of civil rights
