Sunday October 7th – Open Thread

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. THY WILL BE DONE, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but DELIVER US FROM EVIL.

For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen †

Tonight in church, I heard prayers of thanksgiving for the end of the ordeal of Judge Brett Kavanaugh, as one might expect, but then the sermon got somewhat political.
I was already thinking about politics and Donald Trump before I heard this, from Psalm 57:
They have prepared a net for my steps; my soul is bowed down: they have digged a pit before me, into the midst thereof they are fallen themselves [italics].
The pastor surprised me when he said the psalm about David related to events in the world today. He quoted from Ephesians also, the part about putting on the armor of God to fight against the devil.
He reminded us that there are forces in the world that want to take us out because we are Christians.
We’re supposed to fight those forces, as we just did.
