          • I understand being nervous about claims of impartiality, but the same group sets up debates in other countries too. They are a 501c3 advocacy group in favor of elective office candidates anywhere holding public debates, not in favor of any particular party. They work to support a process that helps all voters become more informed. I think that’s a noble purpose.

              • So, “Boss”, you’re suggesting people with past political experience can’t fairly advocate on behalf of a process that benefits the education of all voters?

The CPD would (if they had their way) have many more debates held, and hear from more parties, and each election year they lobby for that, but the major-party campaigns resist it. The two top parties want messaging controlled, and no candidate to get too far out ahead of “the team”.

And I think anything that puts candidates comparatively in front of voters more often is an unqualified “good”. More in-person question answering is better than less. More direct comparisons between each candidate’s policies and solutions to problems is better than less.

          • If there was a person with a similar level of personal charisma (plus resume) to Ronald Reagan running this year, I should think he would have been clearly unbeatable in comparison to either Trump or Clinton.

As I recall, CPD was formed and stepped in because the League of Women Voters (who I would call more partisan than CPD), the sponsors of the debates since ’76, were unhappy with the pressure they felt they were getting from the major parties. (http://lwv.org/press-releases/league-refuses-help-perpetrate-fraud)

After the Kennedy-Nixon debate of 1960, there weren’t any general election debates in ’64, ’68 or ’72, only intra-party events during primary season.

Trump should carry a small wireless microphone on the same frequency as the stage mics. On stage, he could reach in his pocket and turn it on (have it on high). It could cause a loud squeal in her earpiece and give her away.

Another way is if she is giving out scripted answers then he should challenge her for an examination of her ears.

Third, I hope there are no chairs or stools on stage.

There is a long article in The Atlantic today about the fall of Roger Ailes. Lots of sexual harassment stuff which didn’t interest me, but in the body of the story is the news that Murdoch wanted Trump forced out and that the early attack on Trump in the first debate was done under his direction.

Anyone still thinking Fox is fair and balanced needs to think again. Remember, Bret Baier said they had worked really hard on formulating and rehearsing those questions.

I consider their performance a betrayal not only of Trump (who they had been friendly to until Murdoch stepped in) but also of their viewers.

This SINISTER Fox News Scheme Was Exposed After Trump Pulled Out Of Debate!

Conservative billionaire Donald Trump has taken a bold stance against unfair treatment by Fox News… and has pulled out of Thursday night’s Fox News debate.
Trump believes Megyn Kelly’s biased questions are not professional and that she’s a bad reporter.
But instead of trying to work out an agreement, Fox News responded harshly. Why?

A bombshell new report claims it’s because of Fox News’ founder’s deep connections to the open borders lobby. Murdoch is the co-chair of a powerful pro-amnesty organization – Partnership for a New American Economy (PNAE) – which is the strongest lobby for illegal aliens in America.

        As Breitbart reported:
Murdoch’s support of open borders immigration policies has been identified as a potential conflict of interest for years. As ABC reported in 2013:
Murdoch, Australian born and a naturalized U.S. citizen, has become an outspoken advocate for immigration reform and mass legalization of the country’s undocumented immigrants, partnering with New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg in this cause. Whether Murdoch’s personal views will percolate through his network, or at least temper criticism on the airwaves of those who don’t share it, remains to be seen.
In 2013, during the Rubio-Schumer Gang of Eight push, Mickey Kaus similarly pointed out:

In 2007, John McCain’s “comprehensive” immigrant-legalization bill failed after opponents flooded the Senate with calls, shutting down the switchboard… It won’t be that easy this time… The GOP donor class is asserting itself… One of the more influential members of this “donorist” class is Rupert Murdoch, which means that FOX News has for all intents and purposes switched sides, giving immigration “comprehensivists” a monopoly in the MSM–five networks to none.
Indeed, Murdoch has himself expressed his support for large-scale immigration. In a 2014 op-ed published in the Wall Street Journal’s open borders opinion pages, titled, “Immigration Reform Can’t Wait,” Murdoch wrote:

When I learned that House Majority Leader Eric Cantor had lost his Republican primary, my heart sank. Not simply because I think he is an intelligent and talented member of Congress, or because I worry about the future of the Republican Party. Like others who want comprehensive immigration reform, I worried that Mr. Cantor’s loss would be misconstrued and make Congress reluctant to tackle this urgent need. That would be the wrong lesson and an undesirable national consequence of this single, local election result.
If true, this means Donald Trump just exposed a secret agenda at Fox News to campaign for open borders and weaker immigration laws. Only someone with Trump’s powerful communication skills could expose what elites are doing at America’s most popular cable news network.

Clearly, Fox News is more interested in promoting the agenda of the elites than having the high ratings Trump would bring them in a nationally televised GOP debate. This explains a lot

Gabriel Sherman’s article in NY Magazine also says Murdoch directed Wallace, Baier and Kelly to hammer Trump at the first debate.

“A few days before the first GOP debate on Fox in August 2015, Murdoch called Ailes at home. “This has gone on long enough,” Murdoch said, according to a person briefed on the conversation. Murdoch told Ailes he wanted Fox’s debate moderators — Kelly, Bret Baier, and Chris Wallace — to hammer Trump on a variety of issues. Ailes, understanding the GOP electorate better than most at that point, likely thought it was a bad idea. “Donald Trump is going to be the Republican nominee,” Ailes told a colleague around this time. But he didn’t fight Murdoch on the debate directive.”

I found the “article” in question (and a few related articles) in The Atlantic. Nothing but the equivalent of breathless 8th-grade girl diary entries — strings of innuendo and conjecture “proven” by random tweets and girly “well HE said that SHE said that HE told her” attribution masquerading as reporting, all anti-Trump (“he’s way behind in the polls” “his campaign finance are flagging” “he’s unorganized”). I won’t provide the links — why give them the online traffic? Suffice it to say, once the gold standard for in-depth, superbly researched articles, The Atlantic is nothing but leftist tabloid trash. There was a reason I stopped reading it 30 years ago. Today’s reality check confirmed what a good decision that was.

I think Trump acquitted himself very well in the first debates—doing particularly well when the good Ms. Kelly tried her clumsy ‘gotcha question. It’s worth mentioning that Roger Ailes, who was Trump’s friend before and after that debate and, along with Laura Ingraham, is reportedly working as a Trump advisor. Trump’s a quick study and I’ve got a feeling he’s going to go into these debates locked and loaded.

Observation…Romney showed what he was when he completely folded when Crowley jumped in. If he had really known what he was doing and the facts, he would have eaten her plus Obama at the same time. It was so easy – like being offered on a platter because Obama was floundering. Romney showed he was shallow, can’t react fast, can’t fight and didn’t know the first thing about the issue – and it was huge and remains huge as for national credibility, honor, leadership, diplomacy, global stability and loyalty to protect Americans. As a contender for POTUS, Romney should have known it in detail, but he obviously didn’t recognize its incredible importance so he didn’t prepare for it. The job of POTUS is to deal with other nations and international issues, not to babysit Americans.

For me the audiences in the past debates have been the biggest obstacles to fair debates. I wish for once they would be put on notice to shut up and listen, or else they’ll be thrown out of the venue.

It’s customary to speak of a Trump Train but we’re at the point where it’s an electoral avalanche. The pettifogging twaddle and ridiculous posturing of the parasite classes of the media can have no real impact in this election, despite their manufactured controversies on which they then breathlessly report.

A lot of people have made their “come to Jesus” decision already. Debates aren’t going to shift that.

Be careful even on CTH because agenturs of the enemy try and run the “I even donated to Trump but now I won’t vote for him” rubbish.

That’s like a GI in WW2 saying he was all in to fight for the US but now he saw how nice the German architecture is he isn’t gonna fight any more. It’s rubbish, it’s a lie, it’s a con to try and get real voters to shift.

His answer to these and similar questions goes something like this: I’m a leader and I make sure things get done right. I surround myself with the best and smartest people to handle all matters. They bring me the right information, and I make my decision. We’ll take care of it, and whatever decision I make, it will be in the interest of America. Not like my opponent, who has proven that her priorities are elsewhere.

This has been a cage match to the death since it started, so, everyone on the blue team better be carrying Quikclot. Their intellectual games don’t resonate with the street crowd–knock out punches do. (see, also, Battlebots; ABC).
If I were the cultural Marxists I would be shaking in my boots right now because they have no way to deal with vulgarians or anticipate their moves. They are all Robbie Mooks in pajamas.
It’s moot anyway because they will merely create a narrative after the debates for their own purpose or simply omit the videos and/or sound bites. Right now, their entire campaign is one of factual omission. Take a trip down to the OTA local channels and watch their moves.

That’s why the most important thing for everyone to do is to get out on the streets and tell the unwashed what they are missing. And, stop kvetching about a stacked deck because that’s they way it will remain.

My feeling on this? Bring it! The tens of thousands attending each and every Trump rally, thousands attend each and every Pence rally, thousands of new Trump tweeters and bloggers — the “Monster Vote” have figured it out with regard to the laughable media and will enjoy the debates to see only how much more the mainstream media have become outdated relics of a failed view on the USA — like Hillary herself

Go back to basic statistics and a typical bell curve. Elections are won in the middle, not the fringes. Trump has energized the major part of center-right already, and is going after the center-left, who are a large part of the TV audience. One standard deviation on each side of the middle is 68% of the total. So bring on the Whores for Hillary moderators and watch them expose themselves further to center-left Democrats who are increasingly unmotivated and unethusiastic about fringe-left Hillary, and they will gravitate toward the alpha male in the middle, some (if not all) of whose policies will will resonate with them.

    Monster Vote indeed! Go Trump!

I have never understood why the GOP for several decades now continues to allow hardcore leftist TV news personalities to be the “moderators” in these so-called debates. All they have to do is JUST SAY NO. As in, “No, we will NOT agree to all of the debates being hosted by hardcore, openly biased leftists. No, there will be NO DEBATES unless the moderators are widely known to be non-partisan. Or as an alternative, for every known hardcore leftist moderator, there must be a bonafide right wing conservative moderator. PERIOD. If you do not agree to this, then NO DEBATES”.

If they would ever just do this, and MEAN IT, then things could change. Yes, Trump can handle them, but why put yourself in that position if you do not really need to?

And for that matter, why are ‘moderators’ needed at all? I have always thought that a direct exchange between the two candidates would be a far better test of who is more up to the job. Let them just have at each other, and the job of the moderator is just to keep the playing field level and help keep it civil. That’s all. Instead, what we have had for a long time now is little more than “dueling soundbites”. Not really debates at all.

Then Bolling asked if Wallace would bring up the FBI doc dump today and Wallace was noncommittal, saying he’d have to wait and see what’s happening in the world.

This is FUBAR!, So Wallace, a proven Trump-hater who deliberately set out to sabotage Trump at the first primary debate ( on orders from Murdoch) gets to decide on the questions?

My mind has already been made up. I will not watch the debates. The travesty that the media and their comrade demonrats will parade during these events will be shameful. For those who have not decided by now who to vote for, they are obviously living in an alternate reality. The sooner they grow up, they can escape their dream world and rejoin the rest of us who have already know which direction we want to go to save our country. If Hillary Clinton and their demorats win this November, then there will be not much left of America or the rest of the world. Those undecided voters will soon face the reality and wish they have another chance, but then again history has already been written, and they already has their chances in the past eight years. Wrong votes will lead this country and its citizens to a permanent life of slavery, The rest of us will eventually vanish because we,just cannot go on to support Hillary and her peoples with freebies forever. It will be only a matter of time before other peoples money will run out to support Hillary and her demonrats utopia lifestyle and then they will have no choice but fighting each other to survive. I will not be around to witness this travesty.

There is no difference between the two. Murdoch controls both.

Debate thoughts: The debate between Hillary Clinton and Don Trump will have some interesting possibilities, particularly for the moderator.

A debate is possible/reasonable when both parties are thought to be telling mostly the truth. A debate is very difficult or impossible when one or both parties are lying, thought to be lying, or discussing matters that have no inherent “truth”. Consider a debate on who will win the Superbowl in 2017. Two people can talk about their opinion, but nothing more, though it can be entertaining on ESPN.

The moderator will probably try to keep this on the script, but that implies the more important topics will be minimized or ignored, such as either candidate’s fitness (or unfitness) for such a position.

Further with the medial bias, unfair or unethical actions by the moderator that benefit Hillary will probably be supported by the news media, and probably not correctable. Any actions by the moderator which may benefit Donald are likely to be criticized by the press.

Consider this example: Hillary Clinton has said that she will fund her proposals by raising taxes on the very rich, and will not raise taxes on the middle class. Donald Trump responds that Hillary is lying because she has such close ties with the very rich through the Clinton Foundation that her statement is not credible. Further there is a built in tax increase for the middle class due to increasing rates for Obamacare coverage, and that is a tax per statement Supreme Court Chief Justice Roberts. How does a moderator handle that?

Or consider a comment by Hillary Clinton on Donald Trump’s refusal to publish his tax returns. Donald responds with pointed comments about the Clinton Foundation being a political slush fund, that Hillary being “incredibly careless with classified material”, and she has not had a press conference in over 270 days. What are the moderator’s options?

I would find it interesting if scenario developed where Hillary Clinton made a strong comparison of her experiences in the White House compared to Donald’s lack of such experience. Donald Trump responds with a comment that he never had the experience of knowing that Bill Clinton said Hillary was second best in the White House when he had sex with Monica Lewinsky in the Oval Office, and embarrassed the USA in front of the entire world. Donald could add that if Bill Clinton had been a CEO of any company Donald owned, he would have been fired on the spot, and the company lawyers would be scurrying around for the pending, big dollar lawsuit for sexual harassment, undeniable from such an act. So much for her “White House experience”. If she wants to highlight Mr. Trump’s lack of experience as Secretary of State, he comes back with being thankful that he does not have the experience of having an aide whose husband has been putting his private parts on the Internet, as has been done by Mr. Wiener, Huma’s husband. He can also go into not having the failures as SOS in Libya, Syria and the Mid-east, or having the four dead Americans at Benghazi. It should make the debates interesting at least.

Mr. Trump should do some thinking on the process, lest his nuclear options cause people to have more sympathy for Hillary than is deserved. It is one of those great gender biases that women get sympathy when men would get blamed for the same event. That is true for our misogynist world.

There may be extra points if Donald could get Hillary to run off the stage crying, but that might create more sympathy votes for her than support for him.
