  6. velvetfoot says:

What exactly does ‘school choice’ mean?

    • auscitizenmom says:

Part of it is being able to go to a better school, not staying at one because you live near it. If a child can get in a better school because they have good grades they should be able to. I believe these charter schools do so well, but the public school teacher’s union doesn’t like the students being able to go to them because they lose money in the public schools.

    • Melanie Melancon says:

School choice. You can choose which school in the district you want for your children. So if your local school is poorly performing, you can apply to move them to a better school within the same district.

    • Emma says:

Support this idea at your own risk – schools are awful not because of the location of the school but because of who attends.

As Shakespeare wrote in “The Tragedy of Coriolanus” – What is the city but the people?

Schools are the result of the the students who attend.

In other words, school choice will result in really bad kids moving into schools where the kids have been really good students. In a pretty short period of time – if enough of the bad move in – the good schools will become bad schools.

School choice removes the possibility of segregating your children from the dangerous kids or poisonous situations by moving your family into a better district.

Bottom line, with school choice, the ONLY way you will have to keep your children safe will end up being homeschooling them, or sending them to private schools.

      • dave radetsky says:

It’s not the students as much as bad parenting that creates them and doesn’t do their civic duty to make sure schools are teaching properly. That’s what causes bad schools.

        • Emma says:

Yeah, the 13 year old black kid that raped a girl in the bathroom in a school in a medium sized town in Alabama a few months back…that kid raped the girl because of bad parenting. Or maybe he did that crime because his teachers weren’t teaching properly.

And from the other thread, the black adult who stabbed the two elderly nuns to death, I’m sure he did that because poverty, no dad in the home, abuse as a child, etc, etc, etc.

Blaming these things on others rather than demanding responsibility be shouldered by the perpetrators is dehumanizing them by robbing them of agency.

Crime statistics reveal hard, hard truths.

I think it is essential for people to learn the truth about crime, and then think very long and very hard before you support the concept of school choice – else the next little girl getting raped in the bathroom at the local middle school…may be your own.

          • dave radetsky says:

You’re absolutely right that there needs to be responsibility but it’s foolish to think parents don’t play a major role. If you raise the child properly there’s only a small percentage that end up making bad decisions. To ignore that parental influence makes a huge difference in how a person turns out is to destine society to continue down the path of failure we’ve been on for decades.

            • Emma says:

Minnesota Twin Study. Look into it.

“In 1979, Thomas Bouchard began to study twins who were separated at birth and reared in different families. He found that an identical twin reared away from his or her co-twin seems to have about an equal chance of being similar to the co-twin in terms of personality, interests, and attitudes as one who has been reared with his or her co-twin.”

Personality, interests, and even attitudes are heritable. Unless and until that fact is understood, failure will be the outcome. (Did you know intelligence is also heritable? Estimates range from 50 to 80 percent.)

The bottom line is that parental influence (other than genetic) is WAY WAY WAY overrated.

The reason the schools of yesteryear were so much better than schools of today is because the demographics were so much different than today. Differences in intelligence, criminality, even in maturation rates by demographic group are real and well documented. The information is available, even though the left has tried, and continues to try, to keep it hidden. See Molyneux on IQ, look for Steve Sailer’s stuff on the PISA test breakdowns, etc.

      • Katherine McCoun says:

I am not sure what Mr Trump has in mind when using this term but it often means that the money can follow the student and the student chooses the school which opens up the possibility for the children to attend private schools, other public schools and charter schools. This makes the schools competitive.

I would suggest homeschooling anyway. There are no good public schools as they all have corrupt curriculum and social justice, liberal agendas…just to name a few of the issues. If you give your children to Ceasar 8 hours a day, 9 months out of every year for 13 years don’t be surprised if they come back as Romans. Democrat, union run schools turn out liberals at alarming rates!

        • Emma says:

“If you give your children to Ceasar 8 hours a day, 9 months out of every year for 13 years don’t be surprised if they come back as Romans.”

THAT is a FANTASTIC LINE, Katherine! And completely true!

          • Ray Titus says:

My parents had me in public school all through school. It was not 8 hours a day but 6 1/2 for 5 days a week for 12 years. And it was in one of the most progressive school systems in the nation in a deep blue state. And I came through as a strong conservative who stood up throughout my school years fighting for conservative ideals. The reason was because my parents believed it was up to them to make sure their kids were taught what was important. School continued past what was taught at public school. They taught us the truth and how to stand up for it. Even vacations were educational. We’d go to museums, were taken on trips to historic places, etc. They didn’t believe they had a right to time off for themselves until we grown and gone living responsible lives.

Yes, school systems are awful but as parents we have the responsibility to make sure our kids grow into good citizens.

        • bar-revue says:

Homeschooling is the only option in my opinion. I home educated all of my children. I was previously a public school teacher.

    • zephyrbreeze says:

We have school choice in my state. It means that you can register your child at any public school where there is room. If you want to drive 20 miles to a charter school, you have to apply, but your child is eligible. We moved to a new area and were in between 4 public high schools, and choose the one with the best ACT scores, and state ranking.

This is what we will get with Hillary Clinton as POTUS and Mr. Trump needs to POUND on this !!!!!! The Democrats have become totalitarian in their sense of how the USA should be , so they can implement their restrictive regulatory ambitions , and Mr Trump needs to HOUND the AIRWAVES with this debate !!!!!!!!!

Here is a segment of the frontpage mag story on Hillary is trying to bring Sharia Law and the US Constitution together , oh my !!!!

“As Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton affirmed the Obama Administration’s support for this campaign on July 15, 2011, when she gave an address on the freedom of speech at an OIC conference on Combating Religious Intolerance. “Together,” she said, “we have begun to overcome the false divide that pits religious sensitivities against freedom of expression and we are pursuing a new approach.”

But how could both be protected? Ihsanoglu offered the answer: criminalizing what he considered to be hatred and incitement to violence. “We cannot and must not ignore the implications of hate speech and incitement of discrimination and violence.” But in restricting the freedom of speech, Clinton had a First Amendment to deal with, and so in place of legal restrictions on criticizing Islam, she suggested “old-fashioned techniques of peer pressure and shaming, so that people don’t feel that they have the support to do what we abhor.” She held a lengthy closed-door meeting with Ihsanoglu in December 2011 to facilitate the adoption of measures that would advance the OIC’s anti-free speech agenda, which amounted to an attempt to impose Sharia blasphemy laws upon the West. But what agreements she and Ihsanoglu made, if any, have never been disclosed. Hillary’s contact with Ihsanoglu was initiated by Gulen’s associate Ozkok. Read more at these links .

And this is NOT Constitutional either !!!! Stated multiple Times (Totalitarian) is against the structures of America, and against its governing system,. People of these that support Totalitarian are Not to be permitted entry to the United States:: See page 185 Chapter 2 section 212 Article (28) subpart (D)….::…/USimmigration/66%20stat%20163.pdf

Don’t know where to post this but it deserves attention.

An illegal alien eligible for Pres. Obama’s DAPA executive amnesty has filed a lawsuit challenging the scope of Judge Andrew Hanen’s injunction, preventing the program’s rollout. The lawsuit claims that since the Supreme Court did not reach a decision on the case no national precedent was set and that the DAPA injunction should only apply to the 26 states involved in the original DAPA lawsuit.

Where does he get his standing to sue?

Another good piece by Kelleigh Nelson re how important it is to vote for Trump and some interesting (and some funny if it wasn’t so tragic) about young Hillary in high school (whom she was a schoolmate). Hasn’t changed basically – just grown far worse….. plus some background on other spoiler candidates.

“She and her husband later demonstrated what she’d learned as the final lesson of Watergate and that was that any compromise with a criminal investigation is fatal. So…
They obfuscated, stonewalled, denied the undeniable, destroyed evidence, and attacked the accusers.

This is exactly the same thing that Hillary is doing today with the email debacle and the Clinton Foundation. It is the same thing that she did with Benghazi, and Libya, Whitewater,Travelgate, Troopergate, Paula Jones, Monica Lewinsky, Vince Foster’s suicide, (etc. etc etc)

Excellent post at Lame Cherry’s blog here:
Please note that this is about the strategy pertaining to Kellyanne Conway and the so called “softening” on illegal immigration. I know Lame Cherry can get disgustingly graphic sometimes but I think that the logic is spot on in this post. Sundance please read. Thanks.

    Here’s part of it:
“The oligarch media want Trump spokesgal Kellyanne Conway to utter the word deportation, and when she will not, but utters the words, “Enforce the law” is somehow Mr. Trump going soft on immigration, or having compassion on certain situations……..and it all goes to nos fallere.”
    then this:
“Enforcing the law is supposed to tell you deportation, while it tells those who want to support Mr. Trump in the Latin community that they are not going to have to deal with children having guns pointed at them like Elian Gonzalez as the Clinton’s did that child.”

Your last point is what I take from this situation. He never mentioned amnesty, but the media in particular seem to think this softening or supposed flip flop will divide his supporters. What I here over and over is the word softening in the am news feeds here..I don’t think he needs to go anywhere near the idea of a deportation force until after election.

Of course many have issues with Conway on this site and that is fine…I honestly only listen to Trump when it comes to issues. I feel these spokesmen do very little good and he never receives fair coverage

  28. sassymemphisbelle says:

a great read on why the selection of a Trump supreme court is so vital to this election. lately it seems the only focus is on the illegals and the false reports of Trump “softening” (media term, NOT Trump campaign term). the real issue is the appointment of justices who “constitutionally interpret” the law, not make new ones.

I have a great PA ground report for y’all. My wife has been in Pittsburgh for a week as part of her doctoral program. Tonight she told me that out of 30-ish people in here cohort, 28 of them are solidly voting for Mr. Trump. She said during their law class, the topic came up, and the general mood was that people did not like Mr. Trump, but they consider hillpickle absolute evil that has to be kept out of the WH.

A few months ago, her last Pittsburgh trip, these people were all hillpickle supporters. Maybe by her next trip, they will all be wearing MAGA t-shirts!

This is an interesting contrast to the blather I heard on Fox News while driving today. (No OANN on XMSat) They were claiming that Mr. Trump is loosing so bad that he has no chance of catching up, and it is going the be a killary landslide. They must be in an alternate universe.

“If you haven’t seen “The Money Masters” then you should. Bill Still, explains how money works, how it is created, and the history of Central Banking. According to him, the way out of the National Debt is not to default on the loan, but to issue government backed money based on production (NOT gold based). This form of money would be solidly indexed into the economy of the country, and replace the dollars the Fed has issued.

“I read somewhere that the paper dollar is so over-valued that a solid national currency would pay off the national debt in three years. This idea was also used by Hitler when he rebuilt the German economy in possibly the greatest economic revival in the history of the world.”… (Three and a half hours long!)
