Friday Open Thread – October 2nd

tomb of the unknown - memorial dayOur Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. THY WILL BE DONE, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but DELIVER US FROM EVIL.

For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen †

  1. The MSM and Bush Hawks are all in a delirium over Trump not giving specifics over his foriegn policy in Syria and Iran. They think this is irresponsible by him and that Trump is probably hiding his inexperience in the field. The fact is most of our modern leaders did the same thing before they got to office. Eisenhower never told what he would do to stop Korea but he did. Nixon did the same thing about Vietnam and might have succeeded if he was underminded by congress obsession with impeachment. Reagan never mentioned what he would do about the Iran-hostage crisis. Keeping your card to yourself is usually the smart thing to do. Bragging to the world about who is your allies and your armaments is always unwise.

From Pam Geller article about UN-global police force coming to US, one of the commenters said Farrakhan has been invited to speak in Washington next week. Anybody heard about that? IIRC, Oct 10 is the day on which he asked his 10,000 to rise and kill white people.

OK, Federal civil servants current and past, OPM’s starting to mail out those letters notifying us of the full spectrum of band-aid patchwork solutions to the latest data breach. As the FIRST major breach (4.2 million) notification was such a rat**** event they’ve gone to paper letters mailed to us to notify us of the SECOND (21.5 MILLION) more majorer breach,. They estimate that it will take about 3 months to do, but those are ‘Federal’ months and those of you who were/are Federal employees know that 3 Federal months can easily become 6 real months.
Worst part of this is that we are smack in the middle of the Federal holiday party season here. We have the Federal CFC campaign going on from September to December and that will generate more than a few agency-wide meetings. BTW, for those of you who are not Feds, these meetings are usually scheduled to disruption the morning work schedule yet end early enough to create a long and leisurely lunch period – kiss the time between arrival and the end of lunches good-bye.
Then we have the Columbus Day holiday. It’s on a Monday which will mean lots of Friday personal/sick leave and section parties (never lose a chance to par-tay) on Thursday.
Jump to Wednesday, 11 November for Veteran’s Day when the agency schedules a must-attend agency-wide ‘how much we love out vets’ assembly. Again, this one’s usually scheduled to throw a wrench in the morning or afternoon – in theAM it’s as it was with the CFC campaign and in the afternoon it’s scheduled to kill the time between the end of lunch and post-assembly when you can take an hour or two of persona leave and bug out early.
Thursday, November 26th is the Turkey Day holiday, and you can expect personal/sick leave to be king on Wednesday and Friday. In any event there’ll be another par-tay (usually on Tuesday or Wednesday, depending on bodies who’ll be present) and it will be all but a lost day as the social aspects of preparing, imbibing and recovering will eat up the entire day.
Last, but not least, we have Friday, 25 December. For the details see Turkey Day above BUT, as the Feds are such God-loving and fearing sorts, you can expect a liberal ‘administrative leave’ (free time, not taken from the employee’s leave credits) policy that will differ from agency to agency. At the very least there will be a liberal leave policy which means it’s very unlikely that if one requests personal leave Thursday and/or Monday that it will be turned down. For those souls who forgot – the offices will be looking at leave schedules and planning their respective parties on days when the most employees will be there – bang, there goes another work day.
Then we get into 2016 with New Years Day (another Fridayyyyyyy), Monday 18 January) with the mandatory diversity assemblies (think back to how the CFC day went) followed by the section parties to honor MLK’s gastronomic legacy.
We then waddle into February 18th, President’s Day, where once again we’ll have reminders of the only president whose legacy will last the ages and define nearly post-racist America (guess whoooooo?) followed by parties.
By early March the staff should be about done licking the envelopes and be planning a VICTORY! Party to honor their accomplishments. It would be fitting if the Chinese provided refreshments.

Looking at Russia’s inviting China to help stabilize Assad – it’s interesting. The Chinese AC transiting the Suez Canal is a powerful military statement, one the US and Britain used to make by sailing their power-projection fleets through the Canal. China has that port on the Suez now and this tells the world that the Canal is no longer a Western protectorate.
The Russians can also get a look at Chinese carrier tactics, air attack capabilities, pilot proficiency and they’ll also have so much intel gear aimed at the Chinese carrier the carrier crew will be able to boil tea on deck without a stove. The Chinese and Russians will be eyeing each other as they are potential adversaries in the Indian ocean as China’s an enemy of India while Russia’s an Indian client. Best to at least get some idea of what you may be facing when it’s time to go at one another.
There’s also the political aspects here – China and Russia are permanent Security Council members and if they are both playing in Assad’s sandbox a sanction of their actions by the Security Council’s impossible. It also makes kissy-kissy between ancient enemies for the time being, the Russian scorpion riding the Chinese frog’s back.
Russia sees the implications of the Chinese sailing a carrier into the new Russian lake but it’s a calculated risk considering the alternatives. Time to deal with the now reality and pick through the consequences later. The Chinese realize this but the chance to actually sail one of their attack carriers into previously-Western waters and engage in military actions in the west’s old colonies is irresistible – their quinceañera, their Bar Mitzvah as a world power.

Russia’s main source of income is its petro resources and every time the price of oil/NG drops Russia loses operating cash. Granted the long-term outlook for their national profitability ain’t all that bad but it desperately likes to have lotsa cash on hand, especially as its going balls to the wall to modernize and power up its military. China’s doing amazing things with its military though its primary thrust is the China Sea – that ain’t stopping them from letting the world know that they are on a world-power course.
China has a twenty-five year contract with Russia for petroleum products (big pipeline being built from Russia to China) and China still has its eye on the Russian Far East where they’ve already fought wars over where the border between the two is.
China and Russia really don’t like one another, it’s a marriage of convenience and I’m betting that at some point one or the other’s gonna file for divorce.
Turkey benefits as it looks to me as if Russia will co-opt Turkey for any number of strategic positioning reasons, not the least of which is it serves as a counterweight to Iran were Iran to get antsy. Turkey also shares a huge shoreline on the Black Sea with Russia and Russia doesn’t want any unfriendly navies setting up shop in the Russian bathtub. Iran continues to get support from Russia – Russia warned both the US and Israel that an attack by Israel on Iran would provoke a Russian response – as well as help distributing its petro resources and access to advanced weaponry. Sometimes it works to party with the lesser Satan.

I received this message from Daily Kos, although I have no idea how they got my e-mail address. I’m posting it to show how different their point of view is from my own and probably from many bloggers here.

I thought the speech Trump gave in NH was among his best. I loved it when he spoke about Pres. Eisenhower and the fifties. Obviously the progressives at DK do not agree. I was shocked to see that they found Trump’s mention of the fifties to be horrifying. They sound like they hate the man. 😦

It was written by Shaun King… the Faux Black of the Black Lives Matter hoax. He is another one of those white apologists who wants open borders, and believes that any yearning to return to the fiscal prosperity and relative security of the 50’s is an outcry for the return to “Jim Crow” laws.

Like every other FAKE “Civil Rights Advocate” (read as “racially motivated, useful idiot/communist agitator”) he can’t remove the “blinders” of his narrow-minded, RACE-ABOVE-ALL-THINGS worldview.

TRUMP has added more staff. Any info on these individuals from your state ?

    FTA:
Donald J. Trump’s advisers have hired new aides in Virginia, Texas and Florida, three states beyond where the early votes are cast, as they try to demonstrate that the real estate mogul will remain in the race for the duration.

Karen Giorno will be the campaign’s state director in Florida, while Corbin Casteel will play that role in Texas. Mike Rubino will be the state director in Virginia.

“We are in this to win it,” Mr. Trump said in a statement. “These staff additions are the continuation of our plan to have a strategic and significant presence across the country.”

Ms. Giorno previously worked for Gov. Rick Scott of Florida, according to Mr. Trump’s aides. Mr. Casteel was also described as having “vast experience” in corporation communications and political strategy, and worked with the Republican National Committee. Mr. Rubino was said to have worked with Representative David Brat, a Republican from Virginia who defeated Eric Cantor, then the House majority leader, in a June 2014 primary upset.”
