Smug San Francisco Sheriff Blames Everyone Except Himself For Kate Steinle Murder…

If you saw this guy on TV in the last 36 hours you will note his smug liberal condescension oozes from his carefully parsed lips.  Immigration and Customs Enforcement had requested notification if the Illegal Alien Murderer was going to be released.

San Fran Sheriff Mirkarimi did not want to turn over the illegal alien murderer, and he released the predator into the community to continue tracking his prey.  Kate Steinle became his next victim.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) – San Francisco Sheriff Ross Mirkarimi has defended his office’s decision to release a Mexican man who was in the U.S. illegally and who is now suspected in the killing of a woman at a sightseeing pier.

Mirkarimi said that the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency should earlier have issued an arrest warrant for Francisco Sanchez.

“ICE knew that he had been deported five times,” Mirkarimi said. “You would have thought he met a threshold that he required a court order or a warrant. They did not do that.”

Prosecutors on Monday charged Sanchez with murder in the death of Kathryn Steinle, who was shot and killed last Wednesday as she and her father took a walk on the popular Pier 14.

san fran killer

Steinle’s killing has brought criticism down on this liberal city because Sanchez had been deported repeatedly and was out on the streets after San Francisco officials disregarded a request from immigration authorities to keep him locked up.

San Francisco is one of dozens of cities and counties across the country that do not fully cooperate with federal immigration authorities. The city goes so far as to promote itself as a “sanctuary” for people in the country illegally.

In a jailhouse interview with a TV station, Sanchez, a 45-year-old repeat drug offender, appeared to confirm that he came to the city because of its status as a sanctuary.

“Most of the blame should fall squarely on the shoulders of the San Francisco sheriff, because his department had custody of him and made the choice to let him go without notifying ICE,” said Jessica Vaughan, director of policy studies at the Washington-based Center for Immigration Studies, which wants tougher immigration enforcement.  (read more)

The SF Chronicle has for two days run a story stating that Sanchez has spent nearly half his adult life serving time for entering the U.S. illegally. He was released from federal prison in Victorville, CA for illegal entry after 46 months and sent to SF. Why is more not being made of these facts?

Their sanctuary city status makes the city safer? Is that what he said? Letting criminals continue to practice criminality in their community makes it safer. Okay. So then, why limit the policy to illegals? Why not let all the criminals go?

Ironic. From Wikipedia, “[in his 2011 campaign for Sheriff] Mirkarimi made combatting recidivism a centerpiece of his campaign:

We have to realize that what happens in the jail system directly affects public safety throughout all of San Francisco neighborhoods. That entwinement can’t really be denied anymore, and the money we throw at the Police Department to just re-arrest the same people really sort of is counter-intuitive without asking the obvious question, “What can we do so that when somebody comes out they will not repeat their offense?” And there are tested programs already existing in the Sheriff’s Department, ones that we could I think consider adopting and ones that deserve institutional support because most of the programs in the Sheriff’s Department aren’t general-fund-funded, they’re grant-funded, and so they live and die by the vulnerability of those grants. That says San Francisco is not frontburnering the importance of what it means to stand towards the development and accountability of those programs, and that needs to change. I’ll change it.”[35]”

The Sheriff out of his own mouth says that the sanctuary city policy made San Francisco safer. Well Sheriff (and I use that term lightly), if you had the courage of your convictions (which you obviously don’t), you should tell the family of this woman who was murdered in cold-blood by an illegal alien who had been deported five times and who was released from your custody to their faces. Everyone involved with this idiotic policy which led to this woman’s (and many others) death should be forced to own it.

This so called sheriff needs to be charged as an accessory of murder after the fact and the illegal needs the death sentence. This country is going very fast to hell in a hand basket. IT’S NOT TO LATE YET, BUT IT’S GETTING THERE!

That lying “cop” keeps lying and lying whenever he refers to the 3rd district appeals court. That is the court in Philadelphia, and it has ZERO jurisdiction over San Francisco. None. Nada. Zilch. Only if someone wanted illegals not to be handed over would they take the ruling of a district court of appeals from the other side of the country as law. He’s being dishonest and he knows it.

    • ackbarsays says:

Actually, he’s also lying about the ruling itself. That ruling was about recognizing that states and localities may share liability when they participate in WRONGFUL immigration detentions. In other words, when a US citizen is suspected of being an illegal and is detained wrongfully. That certainly wouldn’t have been the case for this guy, who they knew had been deported multiple times. And it still applies only within the jurisdiction of that court unless the Supreme Court affirms it.

Section 507 of title 19 USC requires that when a Cusoms officer (which inclues ICE) requests assistance with enforcing Federal law, the person(s) to whom the request is made must help, and face a fine if they do not. The law further provides that they shall not be held legally liable fior providing such help. So even an informal request by ICE is sufficient.

May 29, 2014: “Sheriff Ross Mirkarimi announces that effective immediately; the San Francisco Sheriff’s Department will no longer honor U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detainers…”

Sheriff Ross Mirkarimi announces that effective immediately; the San Francisco Sheriff’s Department will no longer honor U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detainers unless they are supported by judicial determination of probable cause or with a warrant of arrest.
As a member of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, Ross Mirkarimi advocated for separation of the local criminal justice system from the immigration enforcement system. As Sheriff, he strategically advanced department policy to reflect this belief.
In early 2013, Sheriff Mirkarimi revised the Sheriff’s Department ICE detainer practice, significantly
limiting holds eligible for release to ICE authorities. This revision reduced the number of individuals
released to ICE authorities by 62 percent. Only one other county in California had a policy of similar
San Francisco furthered its commitment to immigration reform in November 2013. Sheriff Mirkarimi
supported and enforced the “Due Process For All” ordinance passed by the San Francisco Board of
Supervisors, extending further limits on the criteria for individuals facing ICE detainers.
San Francisco Sheriff’s Department’s previous policy actions preceded two major court rulings that are now propelling sheriff’s departments throughout the country to stop or limit ICE detainment; Galarza v.Szalczyk, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit ruled in March 2014 that states and counties are not required to keep undocumented immigrants in jail on immigration detainers; and in April 2014, Miranda-Olivares v. Clackamas County, the U.S. District Court in Portland, Oregon found that county governments would be exposed to civil rights lawsuits for honoring detainers without showing probablecause.
“My long-held belief is that local law enforcement should not be in the civil immigration detainer
business. Arriving at a no-holds ICE policy culminates from San Francisco’s early leadership in
challenging the deportation defects of Homeland Security’s Secure Communities (S-Comm) Act, coupled with the Oregon court’s decision on the unconstitutionality of ICE Detainers. Public safety is not advanced and could be hindered when immigrant communities fear the repercussions of cooperating with law enforcement,” stated Sheriff Ross Mirkarimi.

how can this possibly fall within the realm of “civil rights” ?
      these are not American citizens.
why should they benefit at all from “rights” ?
they are criminal by virtue of sneaking into this country ILLEGALLY.

    “California TRUST Act
Welcome to the California TRUST Act website.
The TRUST Act (AB 4) went into effect on Jan. 1, 2014. All counties in California must follow this law, which limits cruel and costly immigration “hold” requests in local jails.

With TRUST, immigrant crime victims and witnesses will be able to come forward and cooperate with police without fear of deportation. This will rebuild confidence in local law enforcement that’s been badly damaged by the “Secure” Communities or S-Comm deportation dragnet.

This website provides resources to support you in educating, monitoring, and implementing the TRUST Act.”

  33. Triage says:

Why can’t states and cities refuse to obey the federal gay marriage law and write their own policies? The immigration laws are the law of the land as well and no local officials have been charged when they ignore them. The precident has been set. We can ignore federal laws we don’t like with impunity. I don’t get how this double standard is o.k. with most people.

In the meantime, San Francisco police are criticizing city policy in the wake of the illegal immigrant’s confessed killing. And politics over immigration policy are heating up not only locally, but also nationally.

San Francisco’s local policy was questioned in the nation’s capital on Tuesday. The chairman of the Senate Homeland Security Committee grilled a senior immigration official, asking how Francisco Sanchez could have been set free.

I saw him briefly. My urge to beat the smug look off his face left a taste in my mouth. Him and his stupid green uniform. Like I said, HE won’t be a victim to the random crime and he serves his masters well.

And his explanation is a lie. The feds had the suspect in custody, gave him to San Fran to prosecute on a local crime, with the understanding he give the suspect back.

He just kicked him loose, and now it is the whole “ICE should have told us” lie. They did. ICE screws up is about useless most of the time.

This is not one of those times. This one is on San Fran and a good reporter would be FOIA the crap out of the arrest report, why the prosecutors failed to prosecute and any information related to the processing.

Congress should hold a hearing and ask the Sheriff to come on in with all the paperwork.

  42. Bob Marley says:

Mirkarimi is such a pathetic, incompetent fool. Electing him Sheriff is like putting someone who doesn’t even know basic first aid in charge of a hospital emergency room. This should be a lesson to the voters of SF: You get what you deserve by electing them. Mirkarimi has utterly failed in his most basic, sworn responsibility: to protect the people of SF. His dereliction of duty has been so aggressive and arrogant he should be prosecuted, removed from office, and imprisoned.

  43. archer52 says:

Look up his bio. He’s a nutbag. Founder of the Green party. Wife beater. And STILL in power.

Liberals. They’re entire life is one “Wooo hoo, hold my beer and watch this” moment to another. Children with power.

And we let them have it.

Freaking hippies. I swear. Enough already.

He pleaded guilty to false imprisonment and STILL wasn’t removed from office.

    Here is a key portion of his wiki. It says so much;

“….In May 2011, scheduled to be termed out as supervisor, Mirkarimi announced he was running for sheriff of San Francisco in the November 2011 election.[32]

Mirkarimi did not receive the endorsement of the San Francisco Deputy Sheriff’s Association, the union representing sheriffs. In an endorsement election of members, Capt. Paul Miyamoto received 353 votes to Mirkarimi’s 2 votes. “This was a very large turnout for us,” said Don Wilson, president of the association. “Miyamoto is a very popular guy in our department. We want one of our own to be sheriff. We want someone with experience.”[33]

In an interview with the Public Affairs Alliance of Iranian Americans (PAAIA), Mirkarimi said about his candidacy:

The challenges of our campaign are that I am running citywide. I have opposition, but with my name recognition as an elected official, it’s one of the first times that I’m seen as an automatic frontrunner, instead of the underdog posture that I'm more used to from my previous runs. The election is in November 2011, and it will be at the same time as the mayor and district attorney. Competing for resources and attention is always an inherent challenge with other high profile races.[32]..."

Let’s see. He was termed out but liked political life, so he switches to law enforcement- not qualified, just wanted the power. Then he is basically kicked in the nads by the police who know him. But nobody cares. So, he interviews with the Iranians…because he is half Iranian. AND his position on drugs, incarceration and environment literally paints him as a nutjob.

And there he is, partially responsible for killing a woman.

BTW- nice hairstyle? What? Alfalfa from Our Gang cut it?”

    • bitterlyclinging says:
