“Intelligence Report”: Iran constructs mock aircraft carrier ‘for black propaganda’ – Strange Intelligence Release ?…. Or is it ?

…..”The Americans are unsure of the purpose behind the building of the nonworking aircraft carrier, but speculate Iran could orchestrate its sinking. Thus, they decided to stay ahead and expose the vessel and prevent black propaganda”…

Something’s up.   –  We never try to stop black propaganda.  Well, we’ve never done it before in our intelligence history.  We use knowledge of it to ridicule the enemy state from the outside inward.  (more after article)

WASHINGTON – Iran is constructing a simulated American nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, and according to US intelligence sources, Iran’s aim is to blow it up and later claim it has sunk an American aircraft carrier.

According to American sources, the sinking of the ship is designed for propaganda purposes, in case the nuclear program negotiations fail and the military tensions between Washington and Tehran intensify.

The New York Times reported Friday that American satellite images initially revealed the vessel in the Persian Gulf last summer, and its contours resemble the US Nimitz-class carrier. Mock planes were spotted on deck, which is about two-thirds the length of a typical Nimitz, and has no nuclear propulsion system.

US intelligence sources claimed, however, that Iran is not capable of building an aircraft carrier. “Based on our observations, this is not a functioning aircraft carrier; it’s a large barge built to look like an aircraft carrier,” said Jason Salata, a spokesman for the Navy’s Fifth Fleet in Bahrain, across the Persian Gulf from Iran.

Hmmmm….   Let’s look at what others don’t and play this out.

Here’s the “official explanation”:

Whatever the purpose, American officials acknowledged on Thursday that they wanted to reveal the existence of the vessel to get out ahead of the Iranians.   (NYT – LINK)

Well, isn’t that special ?

Boy, Howdy – the timing and public display of this little satellite image would be, well, serendipitous no ?

Bear with me.

If I were a U.S. military intelligence official, and if we knew a missing Boeing 777-200ER was inside a rogue nation state;  and we wanted to send them a message that we knew -and how we knew- what better way than to give the New York Times a convenient year old intelligence report to deliver publicly, complete with some satellite imaging – just to let them know – that we know – what we know – and how we know it.

If I were a U.S. military intelligence official wanting to tell that same rogue terror nation state their ‘window for action’ was currently open yet could not be kept open much longer…….  I might just poke them along with such a message that only they would understand within the innocuous public broadcast.

Stay tuned !

And when you go to the New York Times article – don’t skip noting the attribution given to the satellite images:

    Makes sense.

You’re not implying that’s the hiding spot for the plane itself are you? Would be a interesting way to sink evidence that no one would bother to go look at.

Wow. What an idea. Sundance, I admire you thinking abilities greatly. That actually make4s a lot of sense.

  5. John Galt says:

So torpedo the Iranian barge, video the sinking, announce that the Iranians have sunk a Nimitz carrier and then nuke the Iranians.

  6. mung says:

CNN is now saying IF they are able to find the data recorders that they might be blank for various reasons. Sounds like they are doing their job of preparing the public for the ruse.

  7. sundance says:

Again, please allow me to repeat – I have no idea what the endgame for the “plane takers” is. There are far too many possible uses.

With sincere apologies for the projected insensitivity toward the passengers (who are most likely dead) the BIGGER issue for U.S. security is two fold.

    1. Making sure we know where this plane is located.
    2. Making sure whoever has the plane – knows that we know they have it.

What would follow from that point is really just details; and within those details are aspects of action normal folk don’t want nor need to know. We only need to know the situation is stable, secure and handled. How they throw a bag over it matters not.

Our intelligence apparatus is best-in-class. We don’t send intelligence analysts, with folders and pictures of covert-ops to talk to New York Times reporters – unless their involvement becomes part of our objective.

  8. Aslan's Girl says:

But I thought the theory was we didn’t want countries over there knowing what we know and that was why good American satellite shots weren’t released… maybe that’s just other countries in the region not wanting their neighbors to know their tech…
Anyway, I like this theory that we’re sending a message to Iran. Forcing their hand to get this over with soon? I wish Israel could vaporize this plane.

Considering the fact that the surveillance capabilities of Digitalglobe’s 50 cm technology is already available on the innertubes for the whole world to see, there’s nothing to hide (at least not in that respect, anyway). However, our other intelligence resources that are on the ground are a different matter.

    • Aslan's Girl says:

To clarify, when I say theory, I don’t mean sundance’s own, just theories I’ve read around the ‘net. Sorry ’bout that!

  9. doodahdazee says:

are those planse just painted on the deck? How stupid are they?

    • LetJusticePrevail" says:

These folks have just crossed the line into the “Rachel Jeantel” level of stupidity..

        Arrrggggh!! A Democrat!

      • WeeWeed says:

        “Thass retarded, Sir…..” 🙄

        • Dan says:

Coming up on one year later and I have yet to hear anyone reprimand her for say retarded. Especially not the high school class mate of mine who is now a sped teacher and chews me out every time i use the word. She also happens to be a flaming liberal and thinks Mr Zimmerman deserved the death penalty.

Did I mention that once she asked me to teach her firearms safety? Never got to actually firing a handgun. She literally cowered in the corner and pissed herself when I handed her a pistol during the safe room pre range training. You just can’t make stuff like that up…

      • Murse says:

        So much for Persian greatness!

    • chiavarm says:

The two “F-18″s appear to cast a shadow in the same direction of the cranes so they must be mock ups. Not sure about the other “aircraft”. The shape of the image looks like a T-38 trainer, which is not a carrier aircraft.

  10. The intrigue intensifies.

  11. bogey says:

Kind of a step up in terms of propaganda. Perhaps they imtended to destroy it during active hostilities knowing we’d never rebut it due to operational security.

  12. elvischupacabra says:

Today, through Executive Order EO14-7065, Prez-O-Bama renamed these types of propaganda initiatives, “White Privilege Operations”.

  13. Dan says:

Is that the best they can do it? It looks nothing like a Nimitz class flight deck.

  14. justfactsplz says:

What an excellent way for the U.S. to get their message across to Iran. It’s saying “We saw what you did”. Would love to see Iran’s reaction when their bubble burst.

  15. unitron says:

If Iran were to announce having sunk an American carrier, they could use “visual evidence” of a much less costly nature to convince anyone who was likely to fall for the story in the first place.

(come to think of it, anyone likely to believe it in the first place wouldn’t need any evidence other than “Iran said so” to be convinced anyway)

I suppose it’s just barely possible that it’ll be used somehow to train their pilots, but “movie prop” for a film the audience for which will know is fiction seems a much more likely explanation.

It’s not like they could do like a Hollywood film company and actually get the US Navy to help them make the movie.

  16. LetJusticePrevail" says:

What are the possible uses for a mock up (even if it is non-functioning and only 2/3 scale) of a US aircraft carrier, with mock up planes actually on deck? One thing that struck me as odd was that this monstrosity was pictured while under construction in a shipyard, but the article mentioned that it had actually been seen in the Persian Gulf, meaning that whatever the intended purposes of it, it included use at sea, and not just as a land-locked training facility.

This wasn’t a cheap undertaking, so it’s not something done on a whim. It probably has a number of purposes, none of which can be good. Naturally, there are various propaganda uses, but what about military uses, as well?

    1) Target practice for aircraft (bombing/strafing)
    2) Target practice for artillery (naval or land based)
    3) Target practice for missiles
    4) Use for propaganda films (ie we damaged/sank it)
    5) Use for “false flag attack” propaganda films (ie it attacked us)
    6) Use as an element of confusion for foreign aircraft (US or others)
    6) Training for submarine attack (recognition, placement of torpedoes)
    7) Training for paratroop attack (landing on deck, demolition of aircraft)
    8) Training for seaborne attack (boarding from smaller vessels?)
    9) Training for seaborne suicide attack (explosion targeted for reactor area)
    10) Training for attack from infiltrators in the crew of the actual ship
    11) Training for radar detection/recognition
    12) Training for some other type(?) of detection/recognition
    13+…) ?????

This thing probably is/was/will be used for a number of those things, and maybe others as well, rather than one single purpose. But what’s most concerning is fact that this thing was built by Iran in the first place. Why would they undertake such a project unless they anticipated a direct military conflict with the US?

That is, of course, if this thing actually WAS built by Iran. Right now, we just have our own government telling us as much. Could this be a farce perpetrated by our own propaganda machine?

  17. LetJusticePrevail" says:

Here’s something odd. In the top picture of this post, why do the shadows of 3 of the cranes go in one direction, but the shadow of the crane right next to this ship goes in a different direction? Is this a photo shopped fake?
