Expected GOP Immigration Reform Creates Angst – We Answer The “Why Now” Question…

Jim Hoft at GateWayPundit asks:

Democrats are hemorhaging over Obamacare and the destruction of the US health care system. One-sixth of the economy is affected and millions of Americans were repeatedly lied to by Democrats in order to get the law passed. So what do Republican leaders plan to do this year? Pass amnesty.

Boehner with GOP Leadership

On its face it does seem ridiculous.   However, there really is a good reason for The Republican Party to approach it.   Notice it’s the “Republican Party Leadership” doing this push -meaning, John Boehner and Mitch McConnell- not the rank and file.

“There is definitely a growing mood of confusion and aggravation among conservatives in the House over the immigration issue right now,” one House GOP aide said in an email to Breitbart News, adding that many on the right find the “political logic” of riling up the party’s base so close to a low-turnout midterm election baffling.  “Do we really want to just give up the midterms like this?” the aide asked.   (via Breitbart link)

Here’s what’s going on.

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce, headed by Tom Donohue, is specifically lobbying for two very distinct legislative reforms.    The first was national healthcare, or “ObamaCare”, the second is immigration reform or “Amnesty”.

For all intents and purposes the CoC own the Republican Party Leadership and they have done for many years.   The CoC, and its affiliated business / corporate groups on K-Street, spend tens of millions electing the McConnell/Boehner types and insuring their legislative priorities are advance regardless of political consequence.

McConnell and Boehner

The CoC et al, provide the safety net which allows the Republican Leaders to operate detached from their rank-and-file, and electoral base.    If a GOP Leader loses his/her job, because they advance CoC Inc initiatives and get primaried or defeated, the CoC uses its big influence to hire the defeated into a cushy private sector position.  Eventually they may return to DC as a lobbyist – most do.

The CoC (incorporated business interests) want “Comprehensive Immigration Reform” for the same reason they wanted -and got- “Obamacare”.

Both legislative constructs are simply a way to reduce the cost of goods sold, and/or the operational costs of the inherent business, thereby improving the profit margin subsequently insuring favorable Wall Street stock evaluations based on current and predicted success.

If you really want to see the stock market contract/drop – remove ObamaCare.   One of the reasons companies have seen record stock growth is the predictive value of their ability to drop the cost of employee health care from the liability side of the ledger.

All of the corporate and business interests represented by the CoC et al, are currently dependent on their ability to take a growing and increasingly unquantifiable liability, employee health insurance benefit, and move it to an easily quantifiable cost – The per employee payment to government for Healthcare.

U.S. business interests have been trying for years to level the playing field against the global production markets by removing the cost of healthcare from the business sector and giving it to the public sector (govt).    ObamaCare was constructed specifically to assist them in this endeavor.

For Mr. Widget-Maker the cost of employee healthcare is now removed from the cost of the Widget and can be quantified as a payment cost just like all other taxes and liabilities.

Another embedded cost of the Widget is the labor cost.   With the benefits side of “Wages and Benefits” being reduced by Obamacare, the Wage side now becomes a focus.

The Democrats are pushing for an increase in the minimum wage.   Simultaneously there are various progressive government initiatives (dependencies) which have reduced the eligible pool of low-skill employees.

Immigration reform or “Amnesty” increases the low-skill/low-wage, pool of eligible workers and therefore provides the CoC Inc with a consistent resource of low wage costs.

Both Obamacare and Amnesty are fine tuned to insure a lower cost of doing business for the Widget-maker.    Making the Widget simply costs less.    This allows the profit margin to widen – and the subsequent stock evaluations to continue to grow.

However, under these manipulated controls of cost, unlike the free market principles, with a reduced cost of goods you will not see the retail price for the widget drop.

The retail price will remain static as the Stock Valuation benefits.     The profit margin, formerly squeezed by consumer inability to pay more and ever increasing wage/benefit costs, is now able to accept pressure again.

They CoC (Boehner and McConnell acting on their behalf)  will still fight against any raises in the minimum wage – but if they can get amnesty along with ObamaCare you will not see them fight too hard because they will be willing to give up a little on the labor side as a win to the Democrats.

Summary:   #1) Government takes over Health Care – Obamacare – a win for Dems and Big R’s.    #2) Immigration reform gets passed – Amnesty – a win for Dems and Big R’s.   #3)  The minimum wage gets increased – another win for Obama, Dems and palatable for Big R’s.

Who is losing ?      You Are.

How?   The costs discussed above don’t magically disappear they are just moved and become embedded in tax rates.    It’s sharing the wealth, without anyone actually recognizing their wealth is being shared.

See how it works?

The only “change” or reform that we need is compliance with Article 4, Section 4 of the U. S. Constitution; “The government shall protect each of them [the States] against Invasion”. Seems simple enough, and it is.

  2. doodahdaze says:

This should illustrate the GOP job in the current environment.

  3. ytz4mee says:

I worked for an American multinational company at one of their Canadian branch plants. Our branch was more “profitable” because the withholding taxes the employer paid for the mandatory government health care was less than plans the US plant had to pay – but our American colleagues had a much higher standard of living than we did, at the same pay rate and job grade. They also had access to medical care that seemed to be a fantasy. (You got an MRI the same DAY because your doc thought you may have torn a ligament … whaaaat? that’s an impossible “waste of resources”, our government overlords tell us all the time…..)

The middle class is being crushed between the anvil of the socialist policies that favor the lower class, and the hammer of the fascist policies that favor the upper class. Soon there will be nothing else left. No admission tickets are being handed out to the insider’s circle, so the middle class will just taxed into the lower class.

  4. ytz4mee says:

The other unspoken benefit for the CoC to push illegal immigration and a constant pool of low or unskilled labor that can be exploited is that it continues to divide the working and middle classes, making it next to impossible for them to organize or establish any collective bargaining position (I am not pro-Union by any means) that is in their best interests.

As long as the Fed can keep printing from the never ending magic money machine, and the sheeple still believe it’s actually “money”, then the music plays on and the game continues.

Its when the hoax is truly revealed and the music stops that things begin to get really really ugly.

This explains why the RINOs want amnesty. I knew they were going along with it, but I never connected the dots and understood exactly why. Now I “get it”.

The old soviet propaganda mytho about the US being run by a bunch of elite which pose as “democrats” and “republicans”, with no significant difference existing between the parties, and all solely for the purpose of ripping off the average hard-working American — seems less and less a myth. The conclusion, was, of course, that the men of labor needed to elect the communist party instead of the bicephalic ultra-capitalist/imperialist hydra and lead America to join the “progressive part of the world”.

A bad dream gone really bad?

  8. Chance says:

The little Sardinian philosopher Antonio Gramsci had it exactly right when it came to defeating the United States. He posited that a “long, slow march through your institutions” was the only practical means of destroying us, rotting us from the inside like a cancer. And damned if he wasn’t spot on! Just as Satan uses our own sin against us, the leftist have used these same weaknesses to corrupt a few and compromise their integrity; who then betray us for their own selfish gain and self preservation. NONE of which could have happened had ‘we the people’ be every vigilant as our founders warned us to be! Fool me once, shame on you…but fool me twice, shame on me.

Widgets are made in China. Our main exports to China are soybeans and trash, not widgets. US doesn’t make many widgets. 90% of employees in the US work in the service sector.

Illegal aliens work mostly in farming, construction, grounds keeping, maintenance, and food preparation jobs.

There will be no significant widget making in the US, regardless of whether or not illegal aliens are granted amnesty, in the absence of substantial restructuring of tariffs.

The wage depressing effect of amnesty will be in the service sector, which makes one wonder exactly why SEIU is pro Amnesty, unless they intend mandatory union membership for illegals granted amnesty and / or an increase in the federal minimum wage.

    • sundance says:

The term “widget” as used in the article above references “any commerce product” durable good or service good included.

It is not used as a term to describe the outcome from a manufacturing process alone.

  11. Lou says:

Miami is so overpopulated, and my long life Republican friends claim that Conservatives make a distinction between legal and illegal. I’m sorry, but both parties are the same in a lot of ways. both parties are trying to get votes. there are a lot more legal immigrants than people like myself who grew up in this country. I’m outnumbered. It already is so overpopulated with cars, emissions, ghetto people etc. that I can’t wait until I retire and move out of this place. not sure where I’m going because mostly all of Florida are native Spanish speakers who refuse to speak English.

  12. Sentenza says:

And the GOP starts to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory…again.

Sigh. Too bad they can’t take a few pages from the leftist playbook. They don’t even have to lie. Just point out what they’ve actually done.

  13. dodo says:

Our citizens have no jobs. There are no decent jobs out there, the new grads can’t find a decent job, the immigrants are taking jobs from our citizens.

  14. Postman says:

My comment here is several days late so it will probably not be seen, but… I’m quite surprised to see such a calm and factual explication of how immigration is played on a political website.

I’d add that for people who want to sell the future of the country for personal gain, there’s benefit to having illegal immigrants rather than guest workers.
    Just some of said benefit:
    1. Employers operating on the margins or outside of decency can pay illegals straight time for overtime, work them till they break and/or save on insurance and tax by paying off the books.

    2. On the left, politicians have a never ending base of the aggrieved wanna-be citizens to appeal to, because they along with the “opposition” created the grievance themselves. By incrementally offering them things like driver’s licenses, local voting rights (very convenient for building the farm team) and a line-cut to citizenship (maybe next year, but have your 10 other relatives vote for us) they can win elections despite alienating the average citizen.

Republocrats and Demolicians have been doing this for decades, each attempting to trash the country further and faster than the other.
