Dustin J. Friedland 3SHORT HILLS, N.J. –  Four people are in custody in connection with a deadly carjacking outside an upscale mall in northern New Jersey that left a lawyer dead after two men shot him as he reportedly tried to protect his wife, authorities said early Saturday.
Katherine Carter, a spokeswoman for the Essex County prosecutor’s office, did not provide details or elaborate on the arrests, but said additional information will be released at a news conference Saturday morning, according to The New York Post.
Dustin Friedland, 30, was shot in the head Sunday night in front of his wife in the parking garage of The Mall at Short Hills, about 10 miles west of Newark, after being confronted by two carjackers.

Friedland and his wife, Jamie Schare Friedland, 27, were carrying bags full of items and looked as if “they were trying to get all their Christmas shopping done in one night,” a source at the mall told The New York Post.  (continue reading)
