The tours, which were canceled in March as a result of the across-the-board budget cuts known as sequestration, will begin again on Nov. 5 on a reduced schedule. Instead of five days a week, the tours will run for three days a week, according to the White House.
The U.S. Secret Service, which is tasked with protecting the president and White House, said last March that cancelling the tours was necessary so officers normally responsible for securing the tours could be reassigned to other security posts at the White House. That move reduced overtime costs and the number of furlough days the Secret Service faced as a result of the budget cuts.  (read more)
