Thursday Open Thread – January 17th

Tomb of the Unknown ChristmasOur Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. THY WILL BE DONE, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but DELIVER US FROM EVIL.

For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen †

Socialism always leads to “shortages.” Right now it is a gun and ammo shortage. People are awaiting “shipments” all over the country. I wonder what the next contrived shortage will be? 4 more years of Obama? There are gonna be a lot of shortages. The next thing after that in Socialism are cries of “hoarding” and “price gouging.” This occurs when socialist policies cause shortages and the socialist seeks something to blame it on. (it can never be caused by socialism) The socialist can then promote the increase of socialism as the solution.

    • stellap says:

There are food shortages and food riots in Venezuela, mostly due to socialist price controls.

      • howie says:

That is on the way. Right now you will see the socialists be going for the first and second amendments. Make no mistake. They are after the bill of rights. Top to bottom. It is incompatible with socialism/progressivism.

We just came back from taking our teen to see the stage production of “Evita”. Prior to Peron, Argentina had the second largest gold reserves and a strong export economy. After Peron, the people were starving, the treasury was empty, and food was rationed. Argentina still hasn’t recovered from the “socialist paradise”. Amazing how history does repeat itself, and those who want something for nothing will always be seduced by the idea of making the “rich” “pay their fair share”.

        My thoughts on gun control

Good Gun Control: Firm grip on Handgun
Better Gun Control: Two hands firmly grasped on Handgun
        Best Gun Control: Laser Sight

According to this, resulting formula is: G+G+C = Ba
(Gun + Grip + Concentration = Better aim…or Badassery, you can be the judge on that)

I see on my local news that it is snowing in Mississippi. It’s above freezing here this morning!

    • texan59 says:

Well, doesn’t everyone who owns a gun belong to the Tea Party. We’ve been crazy ever since we started that whole radical organization, along with former military folks and Ron Paul voters.

      • howie says:

The electorate is made up of two kinds of people. Beneficiaries and victims. The beneficiaries naturally want a larger and more powerful government. The victims want a smaller less powerful government. The beneficiaries do not fear the government. The victims fear the government. Right now Obama represents the beneficiaries. The beneficiaries are in danger of losing their cherished victimhood.

  4. texan59 says:

Things are already better in NY since Cuomo solved all the gun problems. Let’s just use a tire iron. 👿

You should be happy to know those cretins were turned over to their negligent parents soon after being charged with with second-degree gang assault, a felony, and endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor.
the parents will let them loose on their neighbors later today who will have no right ever to defend themselves

Guns Across America protest – High noon this Saturday 1/19 there will be peaceful protests at most of the state capitols. Here’s the link to the even on facebook. Quite a few people are engaged. You can find your respective state in “UPDATE” section. I plan on attending the event in NY.

    • aliashubbatch says:

Though I’m sure someone has thought of this, keep your eyes peeled for any liberal plants who would sabotage the event by opening fire at any capitol building.

    Email of the day…
The Washington Post’s Mensa Invitational once again invited readers to take any word from the dictionary, alter it by adding, subtracting, or changing one letter, and supply a new definition.

    Here are the winners:

    1. Cashtration : The act of buying a house, which renders the subject financially impotent for an indefinite period of time.

    2. Ignoranus : A person who’s both stupid and an asshole.

    3. Intaxicaton : Euphoria at getting a tax refund, which lasts until you realize it was your money to start with.

    4. Reintarnation : Coming back to life as a hillbilly.

    5. Bozone : The substance surrounding stupid people that stops bright ideas from penetrating. The bozone layer, unfortunately, shows little sign of breaking down in the near future.

    6. Foreploy : Any misrepresentation about yourself for the purpose of getting laid

    7. Giraffiti : Vandalism spray-painted very, very high.

    8. Sarchasm : The gulf between the author of sarcastic wit and the person who doesn’t get it.

    9. Inoculatte : To take coffee intravenously when you are running late.

    10. Osteopornosis : A degenerate disease. (This one got extra credit.)

    11. Karmageddon : It’s like, when everybody is sending off all these really bad vibes, right? And then, like, the Earth explodes and it’s like, a serious bummer.

    12. Decafalon : The grueling event of! getting through the day consuming only things that are good for you.

    13. Glibido : All talk and no action.

    14. Dopeler Effect: The tendency of stupid ideas to seem smarter when they come at you rapidly.

    15. Arachnoleptic Fit : The frantic dance performed just after you’ve accidentally walked through a spider web.

    16. Beelzebug : Satan in the form of a mosquito, that gets into your bedroom at three in the morning and cannot be cast out.

    17. Caterpallor : The color you turn after finding half a worm in the fruit you’re eating.

    Currently going around via email:
Darrell Scott, Columbine Student’s Father 12 Years Later:
Our national “leaders” didn’t expect this. Darrell Scott, the father of Rachel Scott, a victim of the Columbine High School shootings in Littleton, Colorado, was invited to address the House Judiciary Committee’s subcommittee. What he said to our national leaders during this special session of Congress was painfully truthful.

They were not prepared for what he was to say. It needs to be heard by every parent, every teacher, every politician, every sociologist, every psychologist, and every so-called expert! These courageous words spoken by Darrell Scott are powerful, penetrating, and deeply personal. There is no doubt that God sent this man as a voice crying in the wilderness. The following is a portion of the transcript:

“Since the dawn of creation there has been both good & evil in the hearts of men and women. We all contain the seeds of kindness or the seeds of violence. The death of my wonderful daughter, Rachel Joy Scott, and the deaths of that heroic teacher, and the other eleven children who died must not be in vain. Their blood cries out for answers.

“The first recorded act of violence was when Cain slew his brother Abel out in the field. The villain was not the club he used.. Neither was it the NCA, the National Club Association. The true killer was Cain, and the reason for the murder could only be found in Cain’s heart.

“In the days that followed the Columbine tragedy, I was amazed at how quickly fingers began to be pointed at groups such as the NRA. I am not a member of the NRA. I am not a hunter. I do not even own a gun. I am not here to represent or defend the NRA – because I don’t believe that they are responsible for my daughter’s death. Therefore I do not believe that they need to be defended. If I believed they had anything to do with Rachel’s murder I would be their strongest opponent

I am here today to declare that Columbine was not just a tragedy — it was a spiritual event that should be forcing us to look at where the real blame lies! Much of the blame lies here in this room. Much of the blame lies behind the pointing fingers of the accusers themselves. I wrote a poem just four nights ago that expresses my feelings best.

Your laws ignore our deepest needs,
    Your words are empty air.
    You’ve stripped away our heritage,
    You’ve outlawed simple prayer.
    Now gunshots fill our classrooms,
    And precious children die.
    You seek for answers everywhere,
    And ask the question “Why?”
    You regulate restrictive laws,
    Through legislative creed.
And yet you fail to understand,
That God is what we need!

“Men and women are three-part beings. We all consist of body, mind, and spirit. When we refuse to acknowledge a third part of our make-up, we create a void that allows evil, prejudice, and hatred to rush in and wreak havoc. Spiritual presences were present within our educational systems for most of our nation’s history. Many of our major colleges began as theological seminaries. This is a historical fact. What has happened to us as a nation? We have refused to honor God, and in so doing, we open the doors to hatred and violence. And when something as terrible as Columbine’s tragedy occurs — politicians immediately look for a scapegoat such as the NRA. They immediately seek to pass more restrictive laws that contribute to erode away our personal and private liberties. We do not need more restrictive laws. Eric and Dylan would not have been stopped by metal detectors. No amount of gun laws can stop someone who spends months planning this type of massacre. The real villain lies within our own hearts.

“As my son Craig lay under that table in the school library and saw his two friends murdered before his very eyes, he did not hesitate to pray in school. I defy any law or politician to deny him that right! I challenge every young person in America , and around the world, to realize that on April 20, 1999, at Columbine High School prayer was brought back to our schools. Do not let the many prayers offered by those students be in vain. Dare to move into the new millennium with a sacred disregard for legislation that violates your God-given right to communicate with Him. To those of you who would point your finger at the NRA — I give to you a sincere challenge.. Dare to examine your own heart before casting the first stone!
My daughter’s death will not be in vain! The young people of this country will not allow that to happen!”
    – Darrell Scott

Let the nation hear this man’s speech. God Bless

My condolences to the Scott family on the loss of their daughter Rachel.
God bless Mr Scott for his courage & conviction to stand up and give his testimony to the House Judiciary Committee’s subcommittee about the Columbine School massacre.
Would it be possible to have Mr Scott’s words as a stand alone thread here on the Tree?

    • aliashubbatch says:

I actually remember Mr. Scott coming to my high school back in 2005 when I was in the 10th grade. He spoke of Rachel and her life and showed some footage of the news coverage of that day. I didn’t have much interest in his presentation of his daughter, or the challenge he presented to school students.
(I’d rather be honest about my thoughts then, and even now, it sounded stupid. Total douchebag move on my part.)

  14. stellap says:

A troubling oversight has been found within New York State’s sweeping new gun laws. The ban on having high-capacity magazines, as it’s written, would also include law enforcement officers. Magazines with more than seven rounds will be illegal under the new law when that part takes effect in March. As the statute is currently written, it does not exempt law enforcement officers. Nearly every law enforcement agency in the state carries hand guns that have a 15 round capacity.

  15. cajunkelly says:

    Here’s my thought on the requirement to keep your guns responsibly locked up if there’s anyone around you with mental/emotional problems;

How many of the Hollywood elites with bodyguards have ever taken anti-depressants or mood elevators? For that matter, how many politcians with bodyguards have done the same?

Using the standards the jackass is proposing, there should be no guns around someone who is on mood altering drugs.

    Of geese and ganders….

  16. cajunkelly says:

    While I haven’t verified it, I heard there’s now a petition on the jackass’s site calling for…

“in the interest of protecting the jackass and his family of jennies, the White House should be declared a gun free zone”

(not a direct quote, of course) /sarc

“The ‘American Diversity’ class was taught to students at Delavan-Darien High School in Wisconsin.” And one of the parents reported to Fox News that it was a white privilege class. That’s what the class was basically oriented toward, white privilege. “‘They’re teaching white guilt,’ one parent told Fox News. ‘They’re dividing the students. They’re saying to non-whites, “You have been oppressed and you’re still being oppressed.”‘”

Now…Don’t forget. Kids are natural rebels. The black and white kids might come together and rebel. It is possible. The millenials are the lost. Obama and company are socialist dinosaurs. They belong in a museum someplace. They are pushing 1960’s BS.
