Sunday Open Thread – January 13th

Tomb of the Unknown ChristmasOur Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. THY WILL BE DONE, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but DELIVER US FROM EVIL.

For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen †

    – As a college student in the 1970s, John Brennan, President Obama’s nominee for CIA director, traveled in Indonesia where – he recalled in a speech in New York in 2010 – “despite my long hair, my earring and my obvious American appearance, I was welcomed throughout that country, in a way that is a reflection of the tremendous warmth of Islamic cultures and societies.”

Brennan’s Feb. 13, 2010 address to a meeting at the Islamic Center at New York University, facilitated by the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA), provided an insight into his views on Islam, a faith which he said during the speech had “helped to shape my own world view.

Everyone should understand that obama will be lying when he says the oath of office on January 20 and 21 on a stack of Bibles (literally–don’t know who he’s trying to convince).

What’s scary to me is that this man has been inside the spook business for 25-30 years, and no one thought anything about this.

      • Sharon says:

We don’t really have any idea what the norms are inside of the national security agencies (all types), do we? We learned what one of the norms was when the murders at Ft. Hood happened, and we eventually learned that the murderer had just been passed up the chain of command because nobody wanted to deal with the Islamic problem his promotions and his plans represented.

It’s too late to effectively deal with the internal rot.

And reportedly he’ll be “saying” it on Lincoln’s Bible. (borrowing DH’s eyes, six from our dogs, 2 from our parrot and rolling all twelve of ’em)

    Mornin’ kids, and happy Sunday!

    • howie says:

Well. This is one of many reasons we have seen the last Republican President. I also think they will become the minority in the House in 2014. They don’t give a hoot about the base of the party. Only about having control of the loot provided by the out of control government. Democrat base voters are ignorant dopes who can’t take care of themselves. GOP base is not as stupid. At least a lot of them are not. I think they will go the way of the Whigs. This is their last chance. I doubt they will have the courage to step up. They rather get a nice belly rub from the media….like Cristie and Crist.

  4. WeeWeed says:

Hah! It WASN’T just me that thought it looked like hell…..

    • texan59 says:

Nope. Wasn’t just you. No accountin’ for taste.

    • ctdar says:

Ya wonder if anyone is photoshopped in that shot? More than half the circle of men are looking in different direction rather than squarely at BO. The black pantsleg sticking out from behind guy in front of desk…was every other body part of that person (Jarrett?) airbrushed out or big guy cut & pasted over her and leg was missed? That table doesn’t look like belongs there either just plunked in. As one of the commentors pointed out BO using same artwork as Clinton, tho probably copies as didnt they steal everything that wasn’t nailed down?
Ugliest decor ever in the Oval Office, frat house mentality.
Souza is manipulating history under BO direction

    • howie says:

He is right. But the politicians will do it anyway. There will be some kind of waiver, and an offer you can’t refuse. Sort of like implied consent to get a driver license, or go to work at area 51. The way to stop them is to require proof of US citizenship to get your permit and tie it to voting and welfare.

    • Ugh says:

Walmart does this all the time, if an item is too expensive and they can’t profit from it, they no longer stock it.

      • cajunkelly says:

Bingo. The same is true of Sam’s. I can’t count the times I’ve discovered that an item I love is no longer carried. One that comes to mind is chocolate covered macadamia nuts…can’t remember the brand but it was a Hawaiian word. Noticed the other day they finally have it back after about 5 years.
There was a tv show several years back about people with new products trying to get WalMart to sell ’em. WalMart literally browbeats and bullies the “little guy” into pricing barely above cost.
I’m sure ammo producers have jacked up prices lately and so it ate into WalMart’s profit margin demand.

    • texan59 says:

The lack of ammo will have an inverse relationship to my likker bill. 😈

Please Colin, renounce your “r” card. That would be his “republican” card. He ain’t gonna get rid of the other r card.

  8. ctdar says:

My son saw zero-dark-thirty last night and was disappointing. He said it centered all round the woman that was tracking OBL down and not the SEALs that carried out the mission. At the end when raid & movie was over she cries.
After all those years of dedication to one cause in finding OBL, movie depicts the crying (weakness) woman as final scene. Thanks hollywood, way to drop the bar for all the years of progress woman have struggled to make regarding the sexes.

  9. I gotta say, switching from mimosas to Coors Light is always a bit of a let-down.

  10. howie says:

Executive Orders. The President can send orders to the agencies he controls. All the agencies are under his direct control. The executive order has the same force of law as a statute. Congress over the years has given most of its power to the President anyway. The agencies are the result of it. We really are governed by the various nefarious agencies nowadays anyway. The President is more like a King. Congress has become a weak kneed laughingstock. 635 Court Jesters.

  12. Sharon says:

AFP – Saudi Arabia on Sunday criticised world reaction to its beheading a Sri Lankan maid convicted of killing her employer’s baby, the official SPA news agency reported.

Riyadh “deplores the statements made… over the execution of a Sri Lankan maid who had plotted and killed an infant by suffocating him to death, one week after she arrived in the kingdom,” the government spokesman said.

Do either the leftists and obama’s base have any comprehension or actual information regarding Shariah law and its enforcement? Gotta hand it to the Saudi government–they’re not one bit confused. They’ve gone on record defending the right of the dead baby’s family to demand “off with ‘er head” as opposed to just accepting blood money.

With regard to Islam, this actually is government of the people and by the people. This is Islam.

Home robbed in White Plains, NY – Westchester County. They targeted the homeowners gun safe. They are linking it to the Journal News gun map a/k/a menu for criminals.

  14. Was just musing over on the FB about the Aaron Swartz case. Never heard of this kid before yesterday. He broke the law for sure, but the possibility of 30 years in prison for his crimes is mind-blowing to me. The Feds were afraid of him, I think, because of his perceived power. Meanwhile that scumbag Bradley Manning hasn’t been executed for treason yet and that *unprintable word* Nidal Hassan gets to keep his beard (against the regulations of the US Army, which he voluntarily joined) for so called religous reasons.

Yea, I’m probably on a watch list.

  16. Sharon says:

….The ‘administration’ counts on our trust of the system and belief that this is a nation of laws not men. They create a veil of confusion and obfuscation with an endless parade of brazen criminal acts, incessant and contradictory lies, and by stealing the nation blind in plain sight with displays of personal hubris that would make Nero blush. Obama told the truth about one thing, we are indeed seeing a transparent administration – never has one displayed such open corruption, with such an endless array of highly visible criminal acts,….

There is an informative video created during WWII, directed by Frank Capra, to provide GIs with an understanding of why America was at war, why they were going to fight an enemy on foreign soil. The first episode, Prelude to War, examined, step by step the process by which each of the three Axis nations (Italy, Germany, Japan) rose to be a militaristic power, seeking world domination, each dominated by one man backed by a supporting gang. Each nation followed and ‘freely’ elected a leader. The steps taken by each of the Axis powers were almost identical to each other and remarkably similar to Obama’s tactics.

  18. ThatOldGuy says:

There have been a couple of high profile deaths of people who are very pro-firearm. I’m starting to wonder if there’s a conspiracy:

First is Keith Ratliff (aged 32). He was a man from Georgia (US) that ran the very popular YouTube channel (at least in the top ten channels on YouTube; various sources reveal different rankings based on different measurements), FPSRussia. FPSRussia makes videos that demonstrate the capability of various types of rifles, guns, scopes, silencers, explosives and various other fun things. Authorities are pursuing his death as a homicide: executed at his place of work, FPS Industries. Conflicting sources say that he may or may not have been tied to his chair at the time of his death.

Here’s the link to an article on Ratliff:

The next person of interest is John Noveske (aged 36). Noveske was a well-known rifle-manufacturer at He was killed in a car crash seven days ago. The last post Noveske made on facebook, days before his death, was a post that linked numerous mass-shooters and high profile suicides to psychotropic drug use, asking this question at the end of the post:

What drugs was Adam Peter Lanza on?

You can read the article–and Noveske’s last facebook post–here:

I’m not the first poster here concerned about these stories–I’m glad I’m not the only one concerned–but I think that these stories should be followed in relation to the coming debates surrounding the second amendment. Just how did these two high profile people die within a day of each other (Ratliff was found on 3 Jan., Noveske on the 4th)?

The last person for this post is Aaron Swartz, co-founder of Reddit (aged 26). Swartz was found dead of an apparent suicide last Friday (11 Jan.). He didn’t seem to have any involvement with firearms, but he was heavily involved in campaigns against laws concerning internet “piracy” bills; he was co-founder (disputed among some) of Demand Progress which served to fight against SOPA and PIPA (he was an Internet Freedom activist). From the article (link, infra):

‘“Swartz’s suicide came two days after JSTOR announced it is releasing ‘more than 4.5 million articles’ to the public,” ZDNet reported.’

Why is this disconcerting? Well, also from the article:

“In July 2011, Swartz was charged with allegedly downloading and distributing more than 4 million documents — many in the public domain — from MIT and journal archiving service JSTOR.”

Neither MIT nor JSTOR pressed charges on Swartz.

Here’s the link to the article on Swartz:
