Here is another audio analysis provided by Treeper “Lee M” who includes a nice graphic to help understand the consideration.   More food for thought….

Via Lee M – I’ve been analyzing the various .wav files since March 22nd. I’m no “audio expert” but I do have 39 years of audio mixing experience (broadcast, et. al.). Even if GZ said “punks” I hear “cold” with an odd sibilance tacked on.
I also hear what sound like puddle splashing shortly after he exits his vehicle, just before “it’s f’ing cold” (or projecting anger at “those f’ing punks” for making him step in a
puddle?).  After that he walks at a moderate pace to a dog waste disposal unit at the T in the walkways and taps something – a shoe, a flashlight – against it. He stays at that point until the call completes at 4:04  (his line disconnects after which there are a few seconds of line hum at the distant end where the call is recorded).

TM appears to circle the truck. GZ is heard twisting in his seat ostensibly to observe TM as he makes the first pass by the driver side.   Eight seconds later I hear footsteps – albeit ones that sound like harder soled shoes – in the background. A counterclockwise walk around the truck would place TM back at the driver side about 8 seconds after
GZ is heard turning in his seat.
The circling especially makes since because there’s 30 seconds between GZ turning in his seat and the words “… he’s running.” If TM had simply walked by and kept going he’d have arrived at the dog waste unit easily within 30 seconds and that’s a long distance for GZ to observe him in the dark, in the rain, wearing dark clothing.  If TM circled the truck he’d have been closer to the truck (plainer view) when he reportedly ran.
My guess is TM ducked behind a patio screen or the enclosed patio at the first townhouse; GZ walked up to the dog crap unit, finished his call and walked to Retreat View, retracing his steps back to the truck when TM called out.
Of course “guess” is the operative word throughout: audio clues are just clues. The attached map shows some of my guesswork. If I were to redo it I’d place the truck (and corresponding points) a little farther west;  maybe a car length/not a big deal. According to Frank Taaffe the truck was parked closer to the right side of the street and TM circled
counterclockwise. It works “on paper.”

When analyzing the recordings it’s best to use an unaltered .wav (not mp3, .ogg. etc). For Zimmerman’s call, sample the line hum at the end and then kill those frequencies. Next run auto gain to balance the level between GZ and the dispatcher’s voices. Run an EQ curve that focuses on about 300-3000 Hz, more or less and boost total gain if necessary.
That creates a very clear copy with only a few seconds of wind noise. That wind noise seems to disappear as GZ reaches the dog waste unit: he’d merely need to turn his back to the breeze to stop the wind noise.

0:00 Sanford Police Department…

1:17 Something’s wrong with him.

1:21 He’s coming to check me out.

1:25 I don’t know what his deal is.

1:28 Just please get an officer over here.

1:35 These assholes, they always get away (GZ is heard turning in truck seat) – presumably TM is walking by as GZ turns).

1:43 Sound of 4 fast footsteps in the background.

2:06 Shit, he’s running.

2:11 Down towards the other entrance to the neighborhood.
