It’s funny how sometimes you ponder things and feel all alone in your considerations, then suddenly whammo you read something that makes you think wow, perhaps it’s not just me after all.

I have written a few snippets recently about the Ron Paul libertarian wing of the political schematic and how they are becoming more and more, well, ‘out there’.   I’m not sure if I’ve just noted a new uptick in hostile tone, or if it is how they have always behaved and I just overlooked it.  I mean, they have historically been annoying, but generally only annoying like a gnat interfering in the foxhole discussion.  But more recently they have taken to physical action, and hijacking conservative discussion.
I stumbled upon this great post by iMaksim today titled “Conservatism is Sufficient“.  A great point that shows an evolution from annoying gnat to parasitic mosquito:

As a conservative that agrees with some libertarian views, I once held the opinion that conservatives and libertarians share the same interest and should be allies. Sadly, after watching libertarians in action over the past year I now know better.

Once you get beyond limited government and free markets our similarities sharply end. Granted, those are two huge shared principles but our differences are also significant.

However, what has changed my view of libertarians the most is their hostility toward conservatives, their willingness to let Obama be re-elected just to make a point, and that so many of them think the charlatan Alex Jones and his sites infowars and prisonplanet hold some unknown truths. Not to mention many are as hostile to law enforcement as any lib/prog/lefty you’ll ever meet.

Conservatives have always advocated for a limited government and free markets; long before there was a modern libertarian movement. For me to say I’m a conservative that leans libertarian would be redundant. Just saying I’m a conservative is sufficient.

So I say to you libertarians, go get your own party, we are having a hard enough time swinging the Republican Party toward conservatism without having to fight you as well. But make no mistake we will fight you if necessary. Well, at least I will.  -Makism

Well said.

Using a metaphor, I would describe libertarians as those who believe closing the blinds keeps out evil and unfairness from America.
