As things get closer to Super Tuesday there is one person who has remained relatively quiet.   Watch out for any endorsement or nuanced position to judge the establishment positioning going forward….

He has been embroiled in some of his own controversy lately with pardons issued from his office as he exits his position as Mississippi governor but Haley Barbour is the consummate Establishment Class DC insider.   As former head of the RGA, a seriously appreciated George W Bush ally, and having spent massive amounts of time as a highly effective K-Street lobbyist for the ruling class, ‘Boss Hog’ carries a big stick and major clout in Ruling Class circles. The Pardon controversy was an opportunity for the lefty media types to deliver a dismissive and partisan smack in the face while executing a concerted effort to put him squarely on the sidelines in this election cycle.    Their goal was to make him irrelevant, and they worked diligently toward that end.

Barbour is quite an unusual character.   At his heart, his core, and his center, he is a man of principled positioning.   He flows freely between the mahogany smoke-filled boardrooms of the ruling class and yet retains comfort, and respect, around the outdoor BBQ circles of everyday patriots and Tea Party followers.   A grandfather, and Godfather, to many people of political persuasion, Haley Barbour commands respect from a variety of influential circles and he can also set aside his generally uplifting personality and deliver a serious smack down if needed.   He ain’t one to be f**ked with.

Watch how he carefully comes back into the media and manuevers his support, considerations, and forward discussion.   The media will paint him as damaged goods from recent events, but any candidate that takes their cue from the media will rue the day they put distance between themselves and him.   However, he knows politics probably better than anyone else floating out there and he won’t support a candidate who is missing any of the qualities he insists upon.

He is a cross between Boss Hog and Don Vito Corleone, but carrying Marlon Brando-esque clout.
