Egypt WILL become an Islamist state, and WILL seek to eliminate the peace treaty with Israel.   Those happy Sharia loving rapists from Tahir square are gonna see to that, you betcha…… consider these three recent stories.   (Jerusalem Post) — A coordinator of Egypt’s April 6 Youth Movement told USA Today on Wednesday that if the group’s demands “are not met, we’ll be on the street again.”  Among the group’s demands — one that breaks with the stated policy of the military government — was the halting of natural gas shipments to Israel, citing what it called Israel’s mistreatment of Palestinians, according to the report.
The youth movement, along with 10 other democracy activist groups, was scheduled to meet with Egypt’s ruling Armed Forces Supreme Council later in the day, USA Today reported.  Tarek el-Khouly said that his group met with the military earlier in the week but did not make any demands at that time, according to the report. Because it has since become disillusioned with the pace of change taking place in Egypt, Khouly said, they will now make formal demands in the meeting.
Speaking of the military commanders running Egypt’s temporary government, he said: “At the end of the day, they’re [deposed Egyptian president Hosni] Mubarak’s appointees and loyal to him. The proof is he’s still in Sharm e-Sheikh under their protection.” Previewing one of April 6’s demands, he added, “We want him held accountable,” USA Today reported.
Among its other demands, Khouly said that a transitional and technocratic civilian government must be immediately appointed, and restrictions on freedom of speech, freedom of association and forming political parties be lifted without delay, according to the report.  (full article)

Meanwhile in another part of Egypt…… (AMAY Reports) Leaders of Gamaa Islamiya (the Islamic Group) made their first appearance in 20 years in a Monday meeting at a mosque in Assiut, Upper Egypt.
At the meeting, the group declared the resumption of their preaching activities after the ouster of president Hosni Mubarak, who resigned following two weeks of anti-regime protests that started on 25 January.
The group’s most prominent leader, Assem Abdel Maged, declared that Gamaa Islamiya took part in and protected the revolt since its first day.
Gamaa Islamiya is one of Egypt’s largest extremist organizations. It orchestrated armed attacks against the ruling regime during the nineties, but then formally renounced violence and reconsidered its excommunication rhetoric.
Abdel Maged said the group is not seeking to settle accounts with anyone, but stressed that the sucessor of the ousted preisdent should impose justice and ensure the group’s right to preach and apply the Islamic sharia.
He also urged the group’s members to strongly confront thugs, and said the group’s consultancy council and leadership in other governorates will undergo a reshuffle.
Abdel Maged reassured Egypt’s Copts — whose churches and businesses were targeted by the group during its campaign against the government — that “Islam protects Copts and ensures their rights,” adding that “Copts must respect our religion.”  (full article)

And yet while the leftys go on in their peaceful unicorn and fairy laden dreams……. (Telegraph) — Egypt’s new ruling military council has appointed an Islamist judge to head the committee drawing up a new constitution, angering some of those who argued last week’s revolution would deliver the country to the Muslim Brotherhood.
Tarek al-Bishry, the chairman of the constitutional panel, is a respected judge who criticised former president Hosni Mubarak and is regarded as moderate in his views. But he has been associated with Al-Wasat, an offshoot of the Brotherhood.
He has selected a committee made up mainly of judges and politicians, including a judge who is a Coptic Christian, but also a former Muslim Brotherhood MP. There are no women.
Wael Abbas, the best-known human rights blogger in Egypt, who was sentenced to prison by the Mubarak regime last year, said it was a “worrying” choice.
“There is no such thing as a moderate Islamist,” he said. “We want a secular state that respects all religions and which belongs to all religions.”
