5:00pm Shooter Adam Lanza (20) identified as killer. Brother Ryan Lanza (24) being interviewed by police. Only one person shot was able to survive. Presumably this would be the Vice-principal. Nancy Lanza was shooters mother who was also killed. Shooter armed with Model .223 Bushwacker rifle and two handguns, a Glock and a Sig. *depending on setup the .223 can be an assault style rifle or not.
4:10pm – Shooter confusion. Two brothers: Adam aged 20, and Ryan aged 24, have both been outlined as the shooter. Currently Fox is reporting the younger brother Adam is the shooter, and the older brother Ryan is in custody in New Jersey. It is all confused and the media is all over the place.
3:15pm Obama to give presser soon. Latest info…. either Adam or Ryan Lanza is the name of the shooter – they are brothers. The shooter lived in Newtown CT, he drove to New Jersey killed his father, then went to school where his mom was teacher, Killed his mom in classroom, then killed all the kids in classroom – walking away he encountered Principal (shot killed), vice-Principal (shot wounded) and school psychologist (shot killed). One brother is 20, the other is 24 there are conflicting reports on who is the shooter.

These children are our children we are going to have to take “meaningful action regardless of politics” to protect people. 2:53pm The shooter’s father found dead in New Jersey home, Mother also reported dead in CT home. Updated Death Toll to 20 children killed, 6 adults, and the shooter for a total of 27 at the school; plus his mom and dad at home.
2:25pm Shooter identified by FOX and CNN as 24-year-old Ryan Lanza of Hobokken New Jersey – Originally from New Town CT.
1:26pm Fox/CBS and NBC are now reporting a Second Shooter. Two gunmen. They are also stating there were 4 weapons. The two previous weapons were both handguns; A Glock and a Sig. First shooter 20 years of age with ties to the school. .223 caliber rifle expected to be one (reported) of the other weapons.
*Note Two Shooters would imply some kind of organizational objective beyond an individual.
12:56pm OMG – Fox Reporting 26 total dead w/ 18 children. An entire Kindergarten class is “Missing”, presumed to be the child victims being reported.
12:51pm Things are GETTING MUCH WORSE – CNN now reporting that at least 20 persons have been killed and 10 of them are children. No motive yet known. Reports are two handguns and possibly over 100 rounds fired.
12:36pm ABC National are reporting they have local and state official confirmations that over a dozen persons are reported to have been killed – including children.
12:15pm CNN is reporting at approximately 9:20am a gunman opened fire inside a Connecticut elementary school. CNN reports the School Principal and School Psychologist were killed and the Vice Principal was wounded. CNN also reporting that at least 3 persons are dead including the unknown shooter. NEWTOWN, CT (WFSB) – CBS News is reporting that at least one child has been killed along with the gunman after a shooting inside a school in Newtown Friday morning.
According to the Associated Press, the gunman was killed at the school, but it was unknown how the unidentified gunman died. Connecticut State Police said they have been assisting Newtown police after the shooting was reported inside Sandy Hook Elementary School.
There are reports that a teacher was shot in the foot and taken to the area hospital. Officials at Bridgeport Hospital have confirmed that they have one woman, who was shot and in stable condition.
There are multiple reports of injuries, according to the Newtown Bee.
The shooting was reported around 9:41 a.m., according to Connecticut State Police. Few details have been released during this unfolding situation, but state police said this is one of the worst shootings emergency officials have seen in a long time.
The children inside the school have been evacuated to the nearby Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire Department and reunited with their parents at this staging area.
Multiple police, ambulance and emergency crews remain at the scene.
Eyewitness News reporters on the scene observed a man in camouflage gear being taken away from the staging area. He screamed to people in the area that he was not involved in the shooting.
The superintendent’s office said the district has locked down schools as a preventive measure to ensure safety of the students and staff. The Newtown High School is no longer on lock down and students are safe, according to its Twitter account.
The only shooting was at Sandy Hook Elementary School, officials confirmed.
According to Newtown officials, afternoon kindergarten is canceled for Friday and there will be no midday bus runs.
According to sources, Yale-New Haven Hospital has activated emergency triage unit, which responds to mass-casualty incidents.
There are 600 students that attend Sandy Hook Elementary School. (read more)
