Saturday Open Thread – February 25th

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. THY WILL BE DONE on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but DELIVER US FROM EVIL.

For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen †

“The Susan B. Anthony List Campaigns For Santorum In Michigan”

    http://www.humanevents.com/article.php?id=49753

    Morning, everybody!

    • stellap says:

Morning, Wee! Morning all! Off to my Michigan Prosperity conference this morning. Santorum speaks mid-morning, and Romney about noon. Also Michelle Malkin, Andrew Breitbart, Herman Cain, and others, plus some seminars on property taxes, Right To Work and how the green agenda is ruining the country. Lots to see and hear.

    • tnwahm says:

I’m a “fan” of their page on FB and I saw where they endorsed him. Is there any truth to Santorum starting out being pro-abortion? I know we mentioned that his wife Karen was living with a guy who was pro-abortion when they met. I heard it first from a guest on the John Batchelor show the other night. I found the article that she was referencing. I wonder if the article was accurate or just misinformation. Anyone know?
      Here’s the article
      http://big.assets.huffingtonpost.com/PhillyMagSantorum.pdf

P.S. I know it’s the Huffinton/Puffington, but the pdf is from the actual publication of the Philly Magazine in December 1995.

      • stellap says:

I read most of this…. I have to say, he probably did start out pro-abortion, since they use what is supposedly a direct quote. That was probably 20 years or more when he changed to pro-life, and he says it is because of both science and religion. Lots of people have changed their mind on this topic – especially as they get older and are having their own families. In other words, when it really matters, when they are directly involved with the beauty and miracle of conception and birth. Other than that, I think this is mostly a hit piece written in a city that is strongly Democrat. He’s a politician, and they bring up the most damaging things they can find, and most of them aren’t very damaging, frankly. They even have to say that he didn’t win with a majority of the vote – well, neither did Bill Clinton, and that doesn’t seem to bother them.

        • Menagerie says:

I met my husband in high school. He, being raised by devout Catholic parents, has always been pro life. I was in the midst of “feminism” and had no idea what abortion really was, and had not thought much about it, but if I had not met him, and been exposed to the truth through his family, I would have jumped on that band wagon through ignorance. So I guess what I am saying is that I have not always been pro life. I was taught the value of life by the grace of God.

          • tnwahm says:

Your experience is why those of us on the side of life are winning and why the DemonRats are foolish to bring this up and try and use it against us. Most American’s are Pro-life. It’s why we must continue to speak FOR life and educate. I was just wanting to know the truth about Santorum. I would put his legislative record FOR life up against Mittens any day of the week.

        • tnwahm says:

I don’t have any problem with someone starting as Pro-abortion and then realizing the truth and becoming Pro-Life; in fact, I welcome it. I was just curious because that’s one of the arguments that Mitten’s supporters use. Mittens started out pro-abortion and then flipped to Pro-life. I just want to know the truth. I would definitely put Santorum’s record on Life and Abortion against Mittens any day of the week.

“..It is beyond absurd that a country sitting on so much natural wealth refuses to exploit it for the benefit of its citizens and instead deliberately puts the nation in the position of being subjected to the whims of others and face national insolvency. This can only be a deliberate strategy by those determined to destroy the basis of the American free-market economy.”

    • Patriot Dreamer says:

Penn & Teller did an episode of Bulls***! on this very topic in 2004(?). Basically, PETA does not have animal shelters, they have freezers. :(

Apparently, the “ethical treatment” of animals = killing them. Kind of like PP and babies.

    Morning y’all.

I have a bachelorette party tonight in The City. Tells you how sad my life has become that I would much rather stay home.

    • Menagerie says:

Doesn’t sound sad to me. It sounds like a woman in the prime of her life who really has better things to do with her time (such as relax) but cares enough about a friend to go to some trouble for her.

Top Pentagon Official Now Apologizing At U.S. Mosques For Koran Burning In Afghanistan…

    [So friggen pathetic.]

STERLING, Va. (AP) — A senior Pentagon official is apologizing to Washington-area Muslims for the burning of Qurans at a military base in Afghanistan.

Peter Lavoy, acting assistant secretary of defense for Asia and Pacific security affairs, says the military is investigating and that all troops are being retrained in the handling of religious materials.

Lavoy’s remarks were Friday at a mosque in suburban Washington, D.C. They come after protests across Afghanistan over the burning of several Qurans at a U.S. military base. Military officials say 20 people have died in the protests, including two U.S. soldiers.

President Barack Obama has apologized for the burning, which authorities say was a mistake. But the protests continue.

    • Solaratov says:

Not to mention, of course, that two American officers – a Colonel and a Major – were just killed while visiting an afghan ministry.

Preznit No-Nutz will probably apologize for American blood defiling the dirt floors of their government offices.

Of course – THERE’S NO DEMAND FROM ‘TEH WON’ THAT ANYONE BE PUNISHED FOR KILLING AMERICANS!!
What a piece of filth we have for a “pResident”.

      • Yup. Shot in the heads. I’m still so angry about this I literally can’t comment coherently. Does anyone want to go with me to DC to have a public book burning on the Mall? Prolly get arrested, but that’s the only comment I’m capable of right now.

Awww… newly adopted cat saves owner’s life
posted at 2:00 pm on February 25, 2012 by Jazz Shaw

Time for your weekend break from politics. Most of us are, by now, familiar with the idea of “seizure dogs” and “therapy dogs” who assist owners with special medical needs. But a seizure cat? Keep this in mind if you’re ever considering rescuing a feline from the local shelter. From Wisconsin.

Amy Jung and her son, Ethan Jung, originally went to the Door County Humane Society on Feb. 8 to play with the cats, not to bring one home. Then Jung, 36, saw Pudding lying on a counter. She made a quick decision to adopt Pudding and his pal Wimsy.

At around 9:30 p.m., she went to bed and about 1½ hours later, the prodigious kitty came to her rescue.

Jung, who was diagnosed with diabetes at the age of 4, started to have a seizure. According to Jung, Pudding planted his weight on her chest and, when he could not wake her, began swatting her face and biting her nose.

“Anything he could to pull me out of it (the seizure),” she said.

Unfortunately, just waking up wasn’t enough. The woman couldn’t make it out of bed or awaken her son Ethan to help her by yelling. So the cat rushed into Ethan’s room, jumped on his head and woke him up. They called for medical help and the woman was saved. (One sad note for Ethan… the cat weighs 22 pounds, which would probably wake up anyone.)

This isn’t the first time this has happened, though. The video below relays the story of another cat who saved a different woman who was having a heart attack.

Just back from the Michigan Prosperity conference, sponsored by AFP. It was WONDERFUL!!! I shook hands with Santorum, got moved up to VIP seats, so I was second row center. Santorum spoke from his heart it was obvious, and I am so happy that I had an opportunity to hear him speak in person. Both Santorum and Romney spoke well, and Ann Romney is a better speaker than her husband! Did you know that her dad’s company made vacuum toilets for airplanes? He did. Romney lost a lot of the crowd when he started bashing Santorum.

All of the speakers were great, and I will work on a couple of posts. I also met Byron York, and talked with him for five minutes or so – he asked me lots of questions about my vote and impressions of the candidates. He’s a doll, by the way! Also spoke briefly with Andrew Breitbart and asked him why the candidates use CNN for the debates. He really has crazy hair! He said that they have to persuade someone else to sponsor the debates, the questions are bullshit, and he refused to watch most of them.

C-Span filmed the entire thing, so it may be on TV. Herman Cain was the lead speaker – what a firecracker! The last speaker was Anne McIlhenny, and she lit up the room. I want to do a post about her alone (she is anti-Al Gore).

Michelle Malkin spoke the longest (and she’s a terrific speaker), and took lots of questions, because Santorum Romney was late. She is the cutest, most petite little doll.

Just finished watching Act of Valor. The movie got a standing ovation in the theatre. If you haven’t seen it yet, go see it. It is well worth the time!
