We are all aware of frightening and profoundly unsettling events that are happening in our world. We discuss these matters often here at the Tree House. These past months we have been voicing our beliefs, and learning from one another and, I hope, each of us has been reading and studying as much as we can do about the events of the day, about the founding of our country, the causes of The American Revolution, what our Founding Fathers thought and did, and the basic documents – The Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution. History is important, because it frames our perspective of current events. It also reminds us why the United States of America is unique and great, and why it is important for us to do whatever we can to preserve it.
Wow! The year just flew by! We’ve added lots of new friends and visitors.
I don’t know that we’ve introduced all of our administrators lately, so I’ll do that here: (more…)

REMINDER – Please WATCH THE TONE and CONTENT of Commentary. Please be respectful, courteous and considerate of other readers and contributors. Please avoid hatespeak, angry rhetoric, vulgarity, personal attacks and condescension. Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. THY WILL BE DONE, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but DELIVER US FROM EVIL.
For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen †
On Tuesday night friends and I visited Meadow Brook Hall in Rochester, Michigan to view the Christmas finery during their annual Christmas Walk fundraiser. Twenty years or so ago I was a volunteer docent at this beautiful mansion, which is now owned by Oakland University, and used as a conference center, for weddings, etc. The proceeds are used to maintain the property. The university was founded by Matilda Dodge Wilson, who gave 1,500 acres of land and $2,000,000. The land included this mansion, stables, and another more modern home. As well as the university, the land also now has a beautiful golf club, the Oakland University Katke Cousins. Info about Meadow Brook, if you are interested: https://www.meadowbrookhall.org/
This post is for our very dear friend and fellow Tree House administrator, WaltzingMtilda. Where would we be without her wit, wisdom, sweetness, and just plain loveliness? Not to mention her fine taste in tunes! And actors!
How exciting that some of her favorite actors and singers have chosen to honor Mtilda on her special day!
It is only right that we take some time today to honor Tilda with tunes, cakes and special greetings of all kinds, including videos, original poetry and essays (if you feel so inclined) so don’t hesitate to offer your own wishes – just keep them G or PG, please! (more…)

I didn’t see the entire show, but can share the two videos that are currently available. Ann is marvelous! I hear she did pretty well during the rest of the show, setting Whoopie Goldberg straight on the Mormon religion (for one thing).
Recounted from Chicks On The Right:
Ann Romney went on The View today. She went without Mitt, and I give her a crapload of credit for even walking foot into that studio full of liberal harpies plus one token conservative chick (who usually gets steamrolled). Of course, Joy barely spoke, and her disdain for Romney was palpable, while Whoopi tried to grill her on Mitt not ever being in the military. Which is strange, because I don’t remember Whoopi (or any liberals in the lamestream media, for that matter) grilling Michelle on HER husband not ever being in the military. (more…)
The following video incorporates an audio recording that was made by a Detroit radio station, WOMC FM, in October 2001. It contains excerpts from two speeches – President Bush’s oval office speech the evening of September 11, 2001, and the one he gave before the joint session of Congress on September 20. The music is taken from a composition by James Horner for the 1989 movie, Glory. I believe the selections used are A Call To Arms, and An Epitaph To War.
I have always loved the audio, as it touched my heart and uplifted at a time when we all needed it very much. The photos are ones that I collected after Sept 11, 2001.
