My biggest dilemma is figuring out which home printer will be the best replacement for the 16 year old one that I currently have which is beginning to fail.
None of them.
A few years ago I had an HP printer that seemed perfect for my needs. Then it went dead, as in doornail dead.
Its replacements have been adequate at best, boy do they suck down the proprietary ink and refuse to work with knock offs!

Yep. That’s quite the scam for ink for those cartridges. About to drop-kick the one printer I got for the same reason. Got the XL cartridges in it and barely printed with it for a while. Naturally the printer is telling me it’s out of ink with the amount of time that has passed. Freaking programmed expiration dates, I swear.
At least Canon or other has a model with ink reservoirs that show the ink levels at a glance. Probably cheaper ink too by the bottle.
Our latest printer is the ET 2850 with the bottles. The ink lasts longer. The UI sucks and the printheads are finicky. I get AI to help me when I need to get it printing again. Might work better if we used it every day. They all suck but this one has sucked slightly less. Not buying stupid expensive ink cartridges every time i turn around at least.

My library is about 3/4 mile away….its still ten cents a page…I often go there.
We’ve had good luck with our last two Brother printers/scanners — each lasting at least a couple of decades
