It’s may be a lot harder to nurture family and stay home to rear children, but it’s certainly not impossible. You need two things: a solid life partner/ husband to bring home the bacon and realistic, adjusted expectations.
You may not have the biggest house, sport the latest fashions, drive the fanciest car or have the newest gadgets. I didn’t. While my two-income neighbors took loans to supersize their homes and impress each other with big purchases and lifestyles they couldn’t afford, I was at home making P & J sandwiches and making do with my formica countertops, scratched up linoleum floors and tiny closets.
But my family was noisy and happy. We had doting grandparents who sprang for pizza and ice cream on the occasional weekend, messy dogs that chewed up carpets and even a smelly hermit crab or two (against my better judgement I will admit). When others were letting their babies “cry it out” in separate rooms we had kids (and dogs) sleeping in our bed a lot of times, which brings me to another suggestion: ignore the media’s latest advice. It’s just noise.
Our children grew up to be responsible, family-oriented, loving adults who are role models to their peers. It is definitely possible if you make family your top priority and forget about everything else.
To this day my husband says his last meal request would definitely be a P & J sandwich. (We’re not as poverty-stricken as we once were, but those were such happy times.)

On March 3, just days after the first US and Israeli strikes on Iran, when most of the market was still busy pricing the closure of the Strait of Hormuz as a temporary inconvenience, we pointed out something that seemed rather obvious (to us): the UAE’s oil port of Fujairah, which sits on the Gulf of Oman and bypasses the strait completely, was far too small for its strategic importance – and that would change.
Seven months later, the “major infrastructure push” has a name, a sponsor, and a checkbook. According to a new Bloomberg Big Take, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed Al Nahyan – who took the helm of the emirate’s $300 billion L’imad Holding sovereign fund weeks before the war began – is now the point man for what the UAE is officially calling its “Zero Hormuz” strategy (wonder if he was reading Zero Hedge at the time). And the centerpiece of that strategy is, you guessed it, Fujairah.

L’imad has announced plans to take Abu Dhabi Ports Co. private at a valuation of nearly $9 billion, and people familiar say the fund is now likely to spend tens of billions of dollars more on new port infrastructure outside the strait.
The crown prince and his inner circle are expected to be “particularly focused” on expanding ports in Fujairah, which sits just outside Hormuz and opens into the Gulf of Oman.
In May, L’imad struck an agreement with BlackRock (via its Global Infrastructure Partners unit), Temasek and ADNOC to jointly target up to $30 billion of infrastructure investment in energy transportation, logistics and water. Abu Dhabi did not want such a large push funded solely by state money – which is a polite way of saying Larry Fink gets a toll road around Iran.
Sheikh Khaled also chairs the executive committee of ADNOC’s board, which is building a second oil pipeline to double export capacity through Fujairah; at a May meeting he directed the company to accelerate delivery.
Meanwhile Dubai’s DP World is separately pushing new container terminals in Fujairah – meaning that a relatively small stretch of coastline under the Al Hajar mountains is about to become some of the most crowded (and most valuable) real estate in the Gulf.
The UAE’s trade minister Thani Al Zeyoudi summed up the doctrine back in June: the country wants to move to Zero Hormuz dependency regardless of whether the strait is open or not. Translation: even if Tehran signs a peace deal tomorrow, the leverage it enjoyed over Gulf exports for decades is never coming back.

I always thought the lethal injection process included a number of drugs. One to sedate, one to put the person into unconsciousness and then a drug to stop the heart.
They are saying the pentobarbital was degraded. That’s an odd statement. It’s either expired or it’s not. That would be the drug to knock out the person.
Lethal injection was seen as a more humane method of executing people. The problem from the start was bleeding hearts saw movement after the injection and complained it was suffering during death and therefore unconstitutional as cruel punishment. The goal since then has been to find a concoction that would put them to sleep, then kill them, and result in no movement. Well nerves and muscles can continue to react after death. By trying to come up with a mix of drugs that prevents that the results have been even worse, from real suffering to not killing them.
If they are cruel murderers I don’t care if they suffer a small bit during execution, they certainly didn’t have that concern for their victims.

The question here is the process. There have been hangings that failed due to improper methods. I prefer hanging because it’s cheap however you cannot find a certified hangman anymore.
So that leaves other methods.
There are two kinds of hangings, one where the victim dies of strangulation. The other has a trap door the person falls through and heavy counterweight that snaps the neck (spinal column) killing instantly.
I suppose you could screw up a firing squad too if the person with the live round misses the mark, but that is unlikely as they chose skilled marksmen.
The trap door was what Washington had.
Sedation then the pento straight to the heart should do the job.
Veterinarians use this method on elderly or cardiac impaired pets.
No need to access a vein.

There is a bit of nuance when it comes to designing power plants.
While they are designed with peak output in mind, they are also designed with however many generators of a given type it takes to meet that specification with a bit of room to spare to account for maintenance and downtime.
A natural gas plant is going to have lots of individual gas turbines that can be independently controlled and shutdown as needed. Tens to hundreds of megawatts.
Nukes are similar in principle, just with more energy output per unit typically.
Multiple 500MW reactors for a nominal 2GW output is not unusual.
So, many sections in one gigantic plant?
Still remains a large ‘target’ from within and from outside strikes. Each segment goes with one well placed ‘event’ and the devastation remains drastic.
Works wonderful while it’s working, but, as a target one strike stops the workings; if it was in numerous locations but smaller in stature less chance of wiping out all of them.
So bigger services bigger areas, but, smaller does it safer. IMHO

Iranian National Sentenced To 18 Months For Smuggling US Technology To Iran Via China
An Iranian national was sentenced to 18 months in prison for smuggling parts intended for military sonar to Iran through China.
More than a decade ago, Reza Dindar, 44, and his associates concealed the true destination of the sanctioned parts they were selling.
Dindar was sentenced in the U.S. District Court in Seattle on Sept. 25 after pleading guilty to two counts of exporting goods to an embargoed country and two counts of smuggling goods from the United States, according to the Department of Justice (DOJ).
District Judge Ricardo S. Martinez also imposed a $10,000 fine and three years of supervised release after his prison term.

In a local election (non partisan, a joke!) it is clearly on display how the left is doing this. Their pick for one of the council seats is a far left young woman. This woman is obviously chosen by the Dems to replace their other far left chick who is moving up the ranks because one of the reps passed away. A rep who specifically asked that that far left chick not be given his seat. She was given his seat.
The funny part is that the other women running are not conservative or republican (non partisan race) but only one is chosen.

The explosion in the diesel price is a very big deal, this article is explaining that 16 trucking companies filed for bankruptcy just in a month, this could explode very easily and that will then be a disaster. I know my cordwood man told me two local loggers have lost their businesses due to the diesel prices. It seems like Congress should act immediately and pass something to protect these truckers, some sort of aid package perhaps that is targeted for the small companies without the resources to endure all this.
Had diesel not done this, they’d not have gone under so these are problems that have wrecked their lives that are out of their control.
We need truckers, all of them and we certainly need loggers too.
I don’t think I can post 2 links, but there is a second article up right now at ZH that says the President is urging the Europeans to release their strategic reserves or we may consider shutting down our own diesel exports- so it’s their move OR OURS.

2 – this administration and supporters keep telling me I am being patriotic by paying higher prices everywhere, so I don’t get the complaints. We voted for this.
It’s a Russia/Ukraine problem, what do you want the administration to do about it? President Trump has tried repeatedly to end the war. Europe does all it can to keep the war going. In the end it is the fault of the Obama administration for starting all this way back in 2014.
Jake I realize this is a complex problem and I do support what we did in Iran- I get it all.
What my point really was that maybe wasn’t clear is that this is a very urgent problem, this isn’t just about not liking the higher prices, this is about 16 trucking companies going under in a month. We’re on the edge here of an emergency that needs bold action like tomorrow- and I don’t feel like it’s being taken as serious at this should be- things like this can go sideways in this day and age within just hours.
My post was early this morning and since then, Boston Radio’s Howie Carr was talking about this today on his show.
He reminded us what the gas lines and the crisis was back in the 70s and said this was because the government got involved, so lets learn from that he said, however, my idea was some sort of an aid package to keep the truckers in business that are in crisis. I’m sick that 16 places has no alternative but to file bankruptcy over this.
They need targeted assistance and fast.
To lose businesses that the President is working so hard to build, this isn’t good.
I have no issues with the fallout of the Iran situation, I knew we’d see problems, we always do, but it’s how we then handle the fallout that now matters.
This is what this all is right now, we need to help the farmers and the truckers urgently or we’re going to see this get far worse.

I live in rural area with a good amount of farming and hauling (timber and aggregates)., so this is of course a topic. Indendents are are passing the costs along.
If I pay $800 for a load of gravel delivered, appx $100 is material. Quotes for hauling are appx but in this case the trucker gets around $700. Of that, figure 20 gallons of diesel. The recent diesel increases adds appx $40 to my bill. Not cause for bankruptcy to the haulers.
Like many corporate players, trucking companies joined into BuildBackBetter and placed their bets on nBlackrock corporatisim, getting sweet deals by “going green” Maybe those are the ones impacted by a retrurn tocompetitivet systems?
Hopefully, these are the trucking companies that employed all those dangerous, non-English speaking drivers and are being sued out of existence by the people they’ve hurt

My area is in a real panic over all this, we’re all needing home heating oil and the prices are insane.
My neighbors are about to lose their home..
So they are listing it for sale, they just learned they’ve got to upgrade the septic system in order to sell it.
And they are getting so nailed on the trucking to haul that used material all out and then new brought in for the whole system. They booked it months ago and had to wait their turn and fuel has really exploded in that timeframe.
My heart goes out to people that are in crisis from all this, what this septic system is costing them will eat up a large amount of their profits and this is one of those unforeseen things in life that whacks ya hard- and on top of knowing they are forced to move across the country in order to survive.
Not everyone is doing well at all.. I know a lot of people in big trouble right now.
Guessing they did not have a fuel surcharge component built into their rate structure.
Taking on all the diesel rate risk is a bad business model.
We ditch customers that try to pull that on us.

My insurance paid $3000 for a sort of bandaid after a 1” cut. I called the insurance to alert them. They just laugh it away….tje bandaid came from an outfit in Maryland.

I was told to get an assessment for a bat exposure. Urgent care wouldn’t even deal with it. I had to go to the emergency room. A PA took my blood pressure and talked to me about what happened for about 5 minutes. The attending Doctor came in and talked to me for about 30 seconds and said the exposure didn’t need a rabies shot as it was so low, but if I was worried they would give me the series. I declined. The bill was about $1,100 dollars.
They didn’t even tell me the incubation period for rabies I had to look it up, which surprised me. It also surprised me the incubation period is generally fairly long
