It was looking good for the first week going down this path, but after being told to leave my 2025 GM at the dealer for several days, they just informed me that they will not disable the cell phone telemetrics modem because “it is required for the vehicle to operate correctly.”
This is a week after they “turned it off via software.”
I am going to pursue this as far as I have to. I paid cash for that vehicle. There is no justification for forcing me to provide it as a surveillence device for GM and whoever they sell the data to.
I encourage anyone else who has a connected vehicle to pursue this too.

Did you try disconnecting antenna wire? “operate properly” does not necessarily mean what we think it does. The vehicle has to operate as normal even when there is no cellular data signal.
I know that the “shark fin antenna” module above the drivers seat has 4 antennas in it, one each for GPS, WiFi, SXM radio and telematics/Verizon cell service. If I disconnect the telematics communication interface module’s SMA antenna connector, the vehicle will throw a “TCIM Antenna Open” trouble code.
But, if I put a 50ohm resistor on a SMA connector and plug that in place of the antenna coax, the error will go away, as will the cell radio link.
I am trying to get the dealer to do it, so there is no warrantee issue.
The last conversation I had with the dealer general manager was promising; he said he will “get it done.”
