When I was little my parents bought a big new chest freezer that came in a shipping box. My brother and I made a fort out of it in the basement and played in it for months during the winter when we couldn’t be outside much because of the cold. Sis was still too little.
Oh I had forgotten how much fun an extremely large box was to imagine as just about any type of shelter, castle, fort, big camping cabin, etc.
Thanks for bringing me some much needed memories of quieter times.

They are ongoing conflict zones which convulse into new illegitimate rulerships every few years. Even the more stable states tend to be so repressive they can’t be considered modern nation-states.
On the deepest level, the Arab rulers pay lavishly for death to Israel so they can say: “Look at the evil Jews; don’t look at the evils we commit.” The Arabs of Gaza and Judaea-Samaria have submitted to the typical autocratic, murderous, repressive government which characterizes 90%+ of Islamic nations. They have not established a constitutional democracy because their religion has yet to support the moral or philosophical framework of self-determination and unalienable rights necessary to maintain such governance. No predominantly Islamic people have achieved a stable system of government directed by the consent of the governed.
The main difference between “Palestinians” and the repressive, often violent governments which are normal for overwhelmingly Islamic nations is that the former have accepted captivity by other Arab nations and ongoing accommodation of terroristic criminality in exchange for permanent material support.

Biography: Peter Mark Roget is best known for creating Roget’s Thesaurus. He made significant contributions to medicine, science, and language throughout his life.
Roget lost his father at a young age and was raised with support from his uncle, Sir Samuel Romilly. He studied medicine at the University of Edinburgh, graduating in 1798. Roget pursued a medical career while maintaining interests in various fields, including optics and mathematics.
In 1815, Roget became a Fellow of the Royal Society. He later served as the society’s secretary from 1827 to 1848. Roget presented a paper on optical illusions in 1824, which contributed to the understanding of visual perception.
Roget retired from medicine in 1840 and began working on his famous thesaurus. The first edition of “Roget’s Thesaurus of English Words and Phrases” was published in 1852. This work classified and organized related words by their meanings and became a widely used reference tool.

Biography: Ray Dolby was an American engineer and inventor best known for his work in noise reduction and surround sound technology that transformed the audio quality of music, movies, and television.
As a teenager, Dolby got a job at Ampex working on audio tape recorders. Later, while studying at Stanford University and Cambridge University, he was involved in developing the first practical videotape recorder.
In 1965, Dolby founded Dolby Laboratories in London and invented the Dolby noise-reduction system. This technology greatly reduced the background noise in tape recordings.
Dolby sound quickly became the industry standard for music recording and movie theater sound. Major films such as “A Clockwork Orange” (1971), “Star Wars” (1977), and “Batman Returns” (1992) all used Dolby technology.

Good morning, An Appeal. My Black Mouth Cur, Beau, kills snakes as soon as they come into the yard. If they go under something, he will wait or torment them until they come out, then he grabs them and shakes them and throws them, beats them to death on the ground or tears them in two. Always amazes me when he does it.
I have seen how quick cats are with snakes, as I often went up to my barn at night to check on pregnant mares and the barn cats would surround a snake on the concrete and “worry” it until they tired of playing with it, then they would kill it. Amazing thing to witness.

COMMENTARY FOR ROMANS. 8:31
The freedom of believers from condemnation. (1-9) Their privileges as being the children of God. (10-17) Their hopeful prospects under tribulations. (18-25) Their assistance from the Spirit in prayer. (26,27) Their interest in the love of God. (28-31) Their final triumph, through Christ. (32-39)
28-31 That is good for the saints which does their souls good. Every providence tends to the spiritual good of those that love God; in breaking them off from sin, bringing them nearer to God, weaning them from the world, and fitting them for heaven. When the saints act out of character, corrections will be employed to bring them back again. And here is the order of the causes of our salvation, a golden chain, one which cannot be broken. 1. Whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son. All that God designed for glory and happiness as the end, he decreed to grace and holiness as the way. The whole human race deserved destruction; but for reasons not perfectly known to us, God determined to recover some by regeneration and the power of his grace. He predestinated, or before decreed, that they should be conformed to the image of his Son. In this life they are in part renewed, and walk in his steps. 2. Whom he did predestinate, them he also called. It is an effectual call, from self and earth to God, and Christ, and heaven, as our end; from sin and vanity to grace and holiness, as our way. This is the gospel call. The love of God, ruling in the hearts of those who once were enemies to him, proves that they have been called according to his purpose. 3. Whom he called, them he also justified. None are thus justified but those that are effectually called. Those who stand out against the gospel call, abide under guilt and wrath. 4. Whom he justified, them he also glorified. The power of corruption being broken in effectual calling, and the guilt of sin removed in justification, nothing can come between that soul and glory. This encourages our faith and hope; for, as for God, his way, his work, is perfect. The apostle speaks as one amazed, and swallowed up in admiration, wondering at the height and depth, and length and breadth, of the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge. The more we know of other things, the less we wonder; but the further we are led into gospel mysteries, the more we are affected by them. While God is for us, and we keep in his love, we may with holy boldness defy all the powers of darkness.

WE ARE FIGHTING A SPIRITUAL WAR OF GOOD VERSUS EVIL
PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD
Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. All other ground is sinking sand, I pray that I will not slip or fall, but that my feet would be firmly fitted on your lordship, my Lord Jesus. I choose to stand on you, so that the peace of God, which transcends all understanding will guard my heart and mind in Christ Jesus, the eternal Rock of Ages. I receive your holy peace now my Lord, from the sole of my feet to the crown of my head, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray the Shield of Faith into my hand now. As I take up the shield of faith, I ask that you might extinguish every dart and arrow that is launched from the enemy to take me down spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally, and every attempt of the enemy to destroy my joy. I ask that my faith in you would make it flame out. Extinguish every flaming arrow that would come against me, my life, my family, my home, or my ministry. May my faith always be out in front of me like a shield. Give me the courage to “faith my fears” by choosing to walk by faith and not by sight, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Helmet of Salvation, that you might protect my mind from the thoughts that can lead me astray. I choose to take every thought captive, and arrest all intentioned ideas and motives that would harm others, or distract me from your holy will for me. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.
Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.
Thank you my Lord, for the spiritual weapons of armor and prayer that you have given me. It is written no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and you will refute every tongue that accuses me.

Languages are weird things. Ever changing.
I read an article long ago about the life of Roman soldiers that said they ate polenta. Hold on, polenta is corn meal cooked like grits. Rome was long gone before Italians ate corn of any type. Which leads me to corn confusion in English. The word corn existed long before the English ever knew about the New World crop. The Romans ate some sort of grain porridge, and Corn was a generic term applied to kernels of grain.
So both languages had words whose meaning changed, and it is confusing to apply the new meanings to the old usage.
Speaking of changes, English from 1000 AD is so different it is hard to read, even if you can read the 1611 AD KJV or the works of Shakespeare.
And similar to corn, the word Ghost changed. Ghost and Spirit were interchangeable, but now they are vary different. And people get very irate that the KJV used Holy Ghost. Making the same mistake I did over polenta.
We make that same mistake with the words Canon and Bible and sometimes even book.
Writing started with tablets. I don’t think they even had the concept of book back then but I have seen stories spread across multiple tablets referred to today as books.
Then paper made from papyrus and parchment from skins was used to write and scrolls were made. The technology of early scroll making was limited. Today, the Torah can fit all on one scroll. But it took several scrolls. Also, the concept for book was invented and was applied to the story on a scroll. Thus the 5 scrolls of Moses were the 5 books of Moses, the Pentateuch, the Torah or the Law.
The precursor to our present idea of a book was the codex. Papers bound between covers. This was adapted by Christians as their preferred way of using sacred books. Eventually Christians took a Greek word for an Egyptian reed that was used to measure, Canon, and applied it to define what is considered holy books. And put them all together in a codex and called it our Bible, which previously meant books. Later we took a word that meant writings and changed it to mean holy writings. Scripture. So we now can grab a book of scripture that we call a Bible. In Christ’s time all three words meant something else.
It is misleading to apply those terms to before they were invented. Yet even scholars do so. There is no such thing as a Hebrew Bible. They have a collection of holy books called the Tanakh. Not the same, but similar to the Christian Old Testament, scholars don’t want to use the Christian name, but they still use the Christian concept of Bible.
BTW, the collection of Holy Books was not settled at the time of Christ. Tanakh is an acronym that comes from the Law, the Prophets and the Writings. At Christ’s time the Law and the Writings were accepted by many, but only part of the Writings were. Whenever you read the Law and the Prophets in the Bible you are seeing this stage of the process.
The Pharisees were the survivors of the many different forms of Judaism. And of many different concepts of what is a holy book. And they settled what was in the Tanakh in the 1st and 2nd centuries AD. But we don’t have a surviving example until nearly the end of the first millennium.
We think the Torah was deemed holy in the 5th century BC. A version of the Torah was copied into Greek in the 3rd century BC. Another version is what made it into the Tanakh. A third version, probably 3rd century BC, was made by Samaritans justifying worshipping in a temple on a mountain in old Israel instead of in Jerusalem in Judah.
We don’t know when the Prophets were deemed holy. Oddly enough, it is not until after the Maccabee revolt in the 2nd century AD that we find archeological evidence of living by the law.
Many more Holy Books were translated into Greek than were included into the Tanakh.
The dead sea scrolls were from a large library of scrolls that people tried to preserve. Somewhere near a fourth of them were of religious books. All three Torah versions are represented. Many books that never made it to the Tanakh were in the library. Only one book in the Tanakh was not in the library. It is hard to tell what the librarians thought of these scrolls. No Canon list.
The authors of the New Testament clearly had multiple sources. Most of their Old Testament quotes are from the Greek versions. Especially the virgin birth prediction is from the Greek. But some citations are clearly not from the Greek. Our early Greek bibles used the Greek, including many books that never made it into the Tanakh.
Jerome though when he made the Latin translation went with Hebrew as his source, but he also included many of the books that the church already accepted that were not in the Tanakh.
The reformation made a big stink about these extra books and also went with the Tanakh. Today, the ‘scholarly translations’ tend to trust the Tanakh but use Greek or others for clarification.
What a mess. Oddly though the ‘scholars’ are changing from Hebrew primacy to understanding that the Hebrew versions translated in Egypt to Greek probably predated the Hebrew versions used in the Tanakh.
There is also much debate about when these books were written. It seems they have been written and edited and rewritten over a very long stretch of time. The Bible even includes evidence of these changes.
And remember that language changing over time thing? Hebrew changed more than English did. Hebrew is a Canaanite language the same way French and Spanish developed from Latin. There are also hints of Canaanite pantheistic worship within its pages. Definitely the worship practices of the ‘bad kings’ king Josiah tried to eradicate. But also more subtle things the monotheistic editors missed.
We unfortunately don’t have great records of anything between Abraham and David. We have an Egyptian Pharoah bragging that he eradicated the people of Israel in the years immediately before 1200 BC. We have archeology of a people that moved into the highlands who lived in unwalled villages and didn’t eat pork at around that time or a little later. We have a couple of Israel’s neighbors recording the House of David existed in the 9th century BC. But we don’t have their stories from that time. Just their stories as later people passed them on to us. And we only have hard copies of these stories from a little before the time of Christ. And even then there were different versions.
