I have had a dog get skunked. The ride home sucked. Washing him while tied to a tree outside with Dawn dish soap, hydrogen peroxide and baking soda sucked (and you can’t get it near their eyes). Then putting him in the tub to wash with skunk removing shampoo sucked. After that every-time he got damp or wet you still smelled skunk for about two months.
The worst part, the dog thought he smelled wonderful from the skunk spray!

Our 3 female labs ‘dabbed’ poop on their ears whenever they could find it. Thank goodness they didn’t roll in it, just perfume the ears.

Mine have rolled in fox crap, turkey crap, dog crap, unknown crap and rotting fish on the shore. All are absolutely disgusting, yet they are so proud of themselves when they do it. After their mandatory bath I put after shave on their back fur to get them back as they hate it. Dogs hate most the smells we like.
After all that washing and letting the dog dry, it helps to sprinkle some baking soda on the dog and fluff in into their hair. Let the baking soda on the dog, it helps to absorb some of the smell. I have had to use this remedy a few times. Dogs do seem to like skunk perfume!!
2020, Oct. My dogs got skunked and before I knew what happened I let them back inside the house..it was the absolute worst day to top off the plandemic. I broke down sobbing as I sat in my skunk smelling house..we rented air scrubbers and threw out all rugs and linens..it took months for the smell pockets to go away.

I’ve had two pet skunks. They never completely lose the skunk odor.
In my opinion, they were not near as smart as my pet rats.
They would forget who you were if they lost sight of you for five minutes.
And they were hell on house plants.
But they were fun to observe on walks as absolutely nothing perturbed them and the reactions of other animals to them was often hilarious.
My biggest worry isn’t skunks even though I hunt mine. Porcupines worry me the most. I have been lucky there, only ran into one Porcupine and he got inside the base of a hollow tree and couldn’t swing it’s tail to quill the dog.

Worst I had was Thor, all 125lbs of his pure white bathed and groomed self dove into a truckload of quite ripe shrimp heads and hulls some nasty jerk had dumped.
He was thrilled with himself.
When I was a child we didn’t know about bathing dogs. We had a very active mutt we got at the pound. He was quite smart and learned that our neighbor didn’t appreciate him digging up her freshly planted flowers. His solution was to lure some other dogs over to enjoy the bounty while he sat back watching and waiting for her to come out with her broom! There was a farm nearby and also a huge swamp. He would roll in either swamp mud or cow manure and try to enter the house with that caked all over him. After the mud or manure dried and fell off he had the cleanest most sparkling fur!
These days I’ve noticed that groomers like to spray the dogs with some nasty smell kinda like men’s cologne. If you are smell sensitive you can’t stand it (me.). The dogs can’t stand it either. It’s a sure guarantee that the freshly groomed dog is going to find something nasty to roll in and get that stank off of them!

Seeking to commercialise a new transistor design, Shockley launched his company “Shockley Semiconductor” in Palo Alto, 1956. Though the company was unsuccessful Shockley has been credited as being “the man who brought silicon to Silicon Valley.”

Ziegler seems to be very complicated.
He got into trouble for trying to protect Jewish friends and was removed from university where he was a ‘bad’ influence.
But they relied on him for his science.
He received an award in 1940 for his contributions to the war.
He was a financing patron of the NAZI SS. (Himmler hit up all sorts of people for donations. Nice business you have there. If you …)
It is hard to believe that anybody could become director of anything in Hitler’s Germany in 1943 without NAZI party membership. (Way too many people used that as an excuse.)
But after the war, he was cleared by the allies and permitted to continue his leadership position. So maybe he never was a NAZI party member. The NAZIs don’t like his Jewish friendships, so maybe that was never an option for him.

Every morning when we wake up Buckley, our rescue cocker, rubs and wallows against us and then starts his days with zoomies with a toy in his mouth. His obvious simple joy at being alive and having a pack helps us to greet each morning as the gift it is.
Like Geisha, he certainly doesn’t like the thunder and has to be close and touching one of us when the rumbles and cracks come.
Geisha crossed the rainbow bridge and left a hole in our hearts. Of course that hole is not nearly as big as the love she filled our hearts with for almost 13 years. And it seems Buckley is doing the same but in a different way. Geisha was sweet, gentle, and calm. A cuddle bum. Buckley is playful, full of energy, and a defender of his pack and home.
Yes rah, the hole they leave after passing is immense. You are fortunate to have the energetic Buckley. Over the years my husband and I owned two dogs and 5 cats and with each passing the pain was so difficult. As of four years ago we only had one cat remaining – a beautiful female tuxedo cat that my husband named Abby but for some reason I can’t remember, I call Dibs. Then last March Dibs and I lost our husband and best buddy. Now I pray every day that she passes before me, as we have no other family to take her. She is 16 this month and I don’t know if she would survive losing her whole world. The pain of her passing might end me but it is better than her losing us all. You and your sweet wife have had your share of unimaginable loss and I know my losses can’t begin to compare to yours, but I can somewhat feel your pain.
Also, I wanted to tell you that my heart is broken since you completed your construction projects. The two best parts of my days were coming here for Caturday and your building updates. Now I have to content myself once a week with Caturday. Or maybe you could start another project for me to enjoy? Just kidding – kinda…
Since my hernia operation I have to be careful. One just doesn’t heal as fast as they get older. Even the 40 and 50 lb. bags of bird feed I buy take a toll. I have trees to cut down and wood to cut and split but I don’t think I can get to that stuff until this fall. So many things I wanted to get done this summer not getting done due to the hernia, the heat, and I guess to some extent some sloth on my part.
When I get going again I will write about it.

I did not know the original Don but his fame lives on in my family.
Don could take a note to any family member. Few phones in the mid 40s in our rural neighborhood. Don could pick up the mail at the post office and go get some Sweet Garrett snuff at the store to fight the aphids on the roses.
Also, Don was scarier than any booger-man.
Any youngun that did not act right was assured Don would soon come to see them.
And he did.
My older brother still talks about Don being sent to roust him out of the woods when he was in trouble.
Don must have been something else.

70 years ago today, Elvis Presley released a record that helped change popular music forever.
On August 11, 1956, “Hound Dog” and “Don’t Be Cruel” were released together as a double-sided single. Both became No. 1 hits, and the record spent an incredible 11 weeks at the top of the charts.
But “Hound Dog” was already causing a stir.
Just months earlier, Elvis performed it on The Milton Berle Show.
His movements caused such an uproar that critics blasted the 21-year-old singer as too provocative for television.
It backfired spectacularly.

Are you the type of person who cringes when you spot a misused apostrophe? Can you feel your stomach turn when someone doesn’t know the difference between ‘their’, ‘there’ and ‘they’re’? Does your skin crawl when you come across a missing comma?
Well, you’re a jerk.
That’s what a study seemingly told us back in 2016, anyway. According to research from the University of Michigan, if you’re the type of person who can’t help but point out grammar mistakes, it doesn’t bode well for your entire personality.
In addition, the team found a separate negative correlation between a person’s level of agreeableness and their likelihood of highlighting the errors. Basically, if you’re a Grammar Nazi, you might not be the most open-minded.
However, if you want to use it to call out your grammar Nazi friend for being a jerk, why the hell not?
It takes a real Jerk to dress up his jerkiness in Science.
Figures that the study came out of the University of Michigan. There are lots of jerks in this world. Lots that would hold themselves superior jerks to any jerks out of the Midwest. But the Blue and Maize are the top jerks in Michigan.
We all make mistakes. I was taught to correct someone’s grammar in public is the height of rudeness. Reading your own text is hard to do.

My opinion is if you can read it and understand it, stay silent. If not just ask a question. If you think differently, we will have to agree to disagree.
I appreciate the site policies and do try hard to control my jerk tendencies to follow them.
Worse still, my posts are filled with all sorts of mistakes. All of the artificial ones you mention, but many more of my own. I also fatfinger things, hitting keys near the keys I try to hit. I am still pondering how I could have turned dogfood into dogwood, ‘w’ is too far from ‘f’ on my qwerty. But as I typed that autocorrect suggested dogwood for dogfood, so now I know. If I made some other mistake, autocorrect would choose wrongly. And there are weird things that happen when I drag my fingers across multiple keys.
And I am a firm believer in my mind’s ability to see what I thought I wrote, not what I actually wrote. I used to enter data in a table, and ended up having to check the data differently than I entered it. If I checked it the same way I would miss glaringly obvious mistakes. Like hitting carriage return instead of the decimal. An extra line added to a column, creating a glaring mismatch, two numbers with no decimal, and I would still miss that error!
Sometimes being the jerk that corrects others is a trained reflex. Teachers, parents routinely correcting us is well intentioned, but ingrains the act of correction in our souls.
But I try to resist those urges. Too many of my own mistakes. I don’t get corrected here. So I try not to correct. Great policy.
On the other hand, there are many more ways of being a Jerk. Turning a gripe into “The Science” is definitely one of them. Hence my criticism of the study author from UM.

My rain gauge show’s 4 1/2″. If I were to believe the weather app on my phone the earliest we’ll be able to mow is Wednesday next week and if that were the case we would be bailing.
Ha – we had ‘a shower’. measured precip 0.000. Probability of a shower – 40 pct. that means it ‘might’ rain in 40 pct of the viewing area.
Been raining for hours now and a lot of it heavy rain. The puddle in my front yard is now a pond. it flows over the drive and runs down my side yard on the southside to the east and then turns south to the sump that is connected to tile that runs to a county ditch.
No worries! Happened many times before and once, even when the water reached up to the top of the 3 castle rock high square forming a flower garden at the base of my flag pole the water still didn’t get to the foundation of my house. But for most of the day it has been quite dark here indicating tall cumulus thunderstorm heads continuously passing over.
A week ago there were some out here that have relatively shallow wells (50′ or less) getting worried about the low head space in their wells. I guess they can quit worrying now. My rain gauge holds 5 1/2″ of water and I had to dump it because it was topped out. My well is over 80′ and typically has over 60′ of head.
Well it has stopped raining for awhile finally and the toads and frogs are singing their love songs.

Mercy: The Woman Nobody Wanted To Save
There is a scene in John’s gospel where mercy walks into a lynch mob and quietly disarms every person in the room. A woman has been caught in adultery. The religious leaders drag her into the temple courts, in front of a crowd, and stand her before Jesus. This is not about her sin. She is a prop. They are trying to trap Jesus, hoping he will either uphold the law and lose the crowd, or reject the law and lose his authority.
They ask him what should be done. The law says stone her. What do you say? The text does something strange next. It says Jesus bent down and started writing in the dirt with his finger. We do not know what he wrote. Scripture leaves it blank on purpose. What we do know is that he made them wait.
Then he stood up and said one sentence that dismantled the whole scene.
“Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.” – John 8:7
Then he bent back down and kept writing. One by one, from the oldest to the youngest, they left. Not because he shamed them. Because he handed them a mirror. The rocks got quieter and quieter until eventually there was no one left in the courtyard but Jesus and the woman. He straightened up. Asked her, “where are they? Has no one condemned you?” She said, “no one, Lord.”
Then this. “Neither do I condemn you. Go now and leave your life of sin.”
Notice what Jesus does not do. He does not lecture her. He does not itemise the failure. He does not ask her to explain herself before extending mercy. He does not require her to prove she is sorry enough, or repentant enough, or reformed enough. He extends mercy first, and then, only then, points forward. Go, and leave this life.
Mercy comes first. Change follows. That order is the whole gospel in one sentence.
If you have been waiting to feel forgiven enough to come back to God, you have the order wrong. He does not wait for you to earn the return. He hands you mercy first, right there in the courtyard, and then walks with you into the different life.
Your worst moment is not your final sentence.
YOUR ONE THING FOR TODAY
Say one sentence to yourself today, out loud if you can. “He does not condemn me.” You do not have to feel it. Just say it. The order is mercy first, then everything else.
A PRAYER FOR TODAY
Father, thank you that you extend mercy first, and change comes after. Help me stop waiting to feel worthy of the return. Meet me in the courtyard. Walk me forward. Amen.

What I have discovered is this. As you grow spiritually you have the same ability to perform good or evil to that knowledge capacity..
And a strange thing has appeared, evil and good are both from the same beginning. Must be. Evil is good “twisted” but it must be “must” for all our experiences are measured with both and choices are made through that belief.
I realize that God cannot allow every person the knowledge unlimited or we would destroy ourselves. Angels then must be in Gods perfect will. Not their own. Which if you reason that to its end you will see something that may give peace. “The battle is not your own” not even a battle but a test. As Jesus was “tested” in the wilderness.
I find more and more our problems are invited by us, not forced upon us. The gruesome hideous creatures invited in not rebuked. Look at our government now? Communist invited in. Even the conservatives do not lift a finger to stop it.
Why, because God is far from them. We are always one breath away from total destruction BY CHOICE.
Speak truth above all else. Not your truth Gods truth. Don’t allow evil influence to stay speak up when it shows itself.

COMMENTARY FOR JOSHUA 24
God’s benefits to their fathers. (1-14) Joshua renews the covenant between the people and God. (15-28) Joshua’s death, Joseph’s bones buried, The state of Israel. (29-33)
1-14 We must never think our work for God done, till our life is done. If he lengthen out our days beyond what we expected, like those of Joshua, it is because he has some further service for us to do. He who aims at the same mind which was in Christ Jesus, will glory in bearing the last testimony to his Saviour’s goodness, and in telling to all around, the obligations with which the unmerited goodness of God has bound him. The assembly came together in a solemn religious manner. Joshua spake to them in God’s name, and as from him. His sermon consists of doctrine and application. The doctrinal part is a history of the great things God had done for his people, and for their fathers before them. The application of this history of God’s mercies to them, is an exhortation to fear and serve God, in gratitude for his favour, and that it might be continued.
15-28 It is essential that the service of God’s people be performed with a willing mind. For LOVE is the only genuine principle whence all acceptable service of God can spring. The Father seeks only such to worship him, as worship him in spirit and in truth. The carnal mind of man is enmity against God, therefore, is not capable of such spiritual worship. Hence the necessity of being born again. But numbers rest in mere forms, as tasks imposed upon them. Joshua puts them to their choice; but not as if it were indifferent whether they served God or not. Choose you whom ye will serve, now the matter is laid plainly before you. He resolves to do this, whatever others did. Those that are bound for heaven, must be willing to swim against the stream. They must not do as the most do, but as the best do. And no one can behave himself as he ought in any station, who does not deeply consider his religious duties in family relations. The Israelites agree with Joshua, being influenced by the example of a man who had been so great a blessing to them; We also will serve the Lord. See how much good great men do, by their influence, if zealous in religion. Joshua brings them to express full purpose of heart to cleave to the Lord. They must come off from all confidence in their own sufficiency, else their purposes would be in vain. The service of God being made their deliberate choice, Joshua binds them to it by a solemn covenant. He set up a monument of it. In this affecting manner Joshua took his last leave of them; if they perished, their blood would be upon their own heads. Though the house of God, the Lord’s table, and even the walls and trees before which we have uttered our solemn purposes of serving him, would bear witness against us if we deny him, yet we may trust in him, that he will put his fear into our hearts, that we shall not depart from him. God alone can give grace, yet he blesses our endeavours to engage men to his service.
29-33 Joseph died in Egypt, but gave commandment concerning his bones, that they should not rest in their grave till Israel had rest in the land of promise. Notice also the death and burial of Joshua, and of Eleazar the chief priest. The most useful men, having served their generation, according to the will of God, one after another, fall asleep and see corruption. But Jesus, having spent and ended his life on earth more effectually than either Joshua or Joseph, rose from the dead, and saw no corruption. And the redeemed of the Lord shall inherit the kingdom he prepared for them from the foundation of the world. They will say in admiration of the grace of Jesus, Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood, and hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father, to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

WE ARE FIGHTING A SPIRITUAL WAR OF GOOD VERSUS EVIL
PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD
Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. All other ground is sinking sand, I pray that I will not slip or fall, but that my feet would be firmly fitted on your lordship, my Lord Jesus. I choose to stand on you, so that the peace of God, which transcends all understanding will guard my heart and mind in Christ Jesus, the eternal Rock of Ages. I receive your holy peace now my Lord, from the sole of my feet to the crown of my head, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray the Shield of Faith into my hand now. As I take up the shield of faith, I ask that you might extinguish every dart and arrow that is launched from the enemy to take me down spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally, and every attempt of the enemy to destroy my joy. I ask that my faith in you would make it flame out. Extinguish every flaming arrow that would come against me, my life, my family, my home, or my ministry. May my faith always be out in front of me like a shield. Give me the courage to “faith my fears” by choosing to walk by faith and not by sight, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Helmet of Salvation, that you might protect my mind from the thoughts that can lead me astray. I choose to take every thought captive, and arrest all intentioned ideas and motives that would harm others, or distract me from your holy will for me. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.
Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.
Thank you my Lord, for the spiritual weapons of armor and prayer that you have given me. It is written no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and you will refute every tongue that accuses me.

Further to my “devil” post on the Presidential thread, I thought a practical example in the form of musical lyrics (and vibe) might expand on the “accuser” and eventual adversary (if not checked) titles. Self blame and perceived unworthiness (spiritually) leading to surrender (of faith in God), followed by further self destructive thoughts and actions are the classic spirals – downwards. This is THE goal of the Satan / devil. For each and every one of us to give up on God, but especially what the following of, and way of life brings to the soul and worth/self esteem of the person – extending to everything in “our” world.
Unfortunately, what is often not explained or advised is that the higher a person “climbs” (or falls) in their spiritual level/belief, so to does your internal accuser. “He/she” will now have equal access – because it’s your mind. IE it will/can progressively feel as if the “attacks” are “higher/stronger”. Then there are times when they are “tests” from God himself (refining). Figuring it all out on the fly while seemingly surrounded and “attacked” by the world naturally makes it a difficult task – which is why it’s so important to “switch off” the world for at least an hour a day (as little distraction as possible) – and to TALK to God. Informally with respect of course, but basically pour out in complete truth that what you feel is important and necessary for your healing. However be prepared for some “uncomfortable” answers – this is the only way to the truth. Over time the adversary will be rendered almost tooth-less, although they say its to your dying day. Perhaps we can be the exceptions?? 🙂 Like Job.
