There are many formerly solid red states that have been invaded by deep blue staters to the degree that they are now strange shades of purple.

He is making a very strong case about how AI is house of cards, highly unlikely there will ever be a return on the massive capex, and big tech is creating a circle jerk illusion of demand. I am an investor and I traded out of all my tech positions that had AI capex exposure about six weeks ago.
We know what will happen: someone will create a more efficient algorithm which doesn’t require that much power.
In fact, Chinese researchers recently made such an improvement, and published it on “github” as open source. Others have since confirmed that the posting is correct and complete. This will in due time happen again. It’s the way this ball bounces.

His purchases alone probably counted for a substantial percentage of British book stores quarterly results. I’ll bet his massive collection against your parents’ any day!! 😂

I’m thinking about all of those out of the way, some hidden, book shops we loved to browse through during our Welsh years. All those small towns/villages as well as cities like Chester with their rows of enticing shops, even antique fairs which we frequented on weekends We never knew what we’d find. Irreplaceable treasures, indeed. I love old vintage cars, antique furniture and historic buildings. Being an architect, it breaks my heart to see or read about an old, historically significant building being destroyed, forever! I have acquired a pretty decent library over the past 55 years and I am determined to acquire as many “older texts” as I possibly can, as long as I can. I want my homeschooled granddaughters to be knowledgeable of history and to know what is true and what is not.
In several locations, I have a few thousand books. 95% non fiction. Nothing much published really from 2000 to the present. And definitely none from the 20teens to now. I never thought in my lifetime would these books be so important.
As an avid reader, I have collected books my entire adult life. I even have little school books from my grandmothers years in school.
They were actually quite advanced.
It’s funny, when my grandmother passed, then years later, when my parents passed, the books were
all ignored… too old, too out of date, etc. I packed up as many as I could. Such treasures.
I gave my grands the beautiful encyclopedia set from the late 60s I had. They have so enjoyed them.
I hope you are able to do so, my friend 💕 What a legacy for your granddaughters and perhaps the greatest gift you could give to them.
(I as well am a lover of historical architecture, antiques (of which I brought a few treasures back from my time abroad), etchings, sketches, and even a three chimed Austrian wall clock which arrived mercifully intact. I often think I was perhaps born in the wrong era….as I’m suggesting that for yourself you might believe the same. In spite of its state, the UK is still a cornucopia of out of the way places filled with such treasures…don’t erase it just yet from your bucket list. Rent a car and let your wanderlust guide you.)

Apparently, they are buying them in bulk and spending $millions to do so. I would guess they have someone who scouts for them….
I use multiple e-readers and I’m glad the exist. My hands simply cannot hold my favorite hard back books nowadays for very long.
The e-readers can back-light and change the fonts and sizes so old eyes can rest easy. Highlighting is wonderful and so are the built in dictionaries.
I can lounge in a hot tub of magnesium and salt water so good for the bones and if I fall asleep the waterproof e-reader cares not.. They are wonderful.
That said I always back them up so they cannot be taken from me and my shelves of books are like old friends to visit now and again. Reminds me of reading under the blankets with a flashlight thinking mom wouldn’t know.
Having re-read “1984” recently, this is just part of the plan to make sure everyone thinks the same “truth”.
Glad you mentioned that, Chip. I read 1984, Brave New World, Animal Farm, etc. years ago and I need to read them again. I didn’t understand the significance of what I was reading back then but I can appreciate it now.

In recent years I’ve been purchasing, when I can, hard copies of histories (many of them old copyrights) and also current materials on the constitution published by Hillsdale College for my children, and also separate copies for the grandson who is building his own hardbound library of books that document history.
Re my Bible commentary library (Spurgeon, Henry Matthews, Jamieson, Faussett & Brown, etc), I frequently use the internet for quick access, but I will not give up my hard copies. Ain’t gonna happen.

I also look for older magazines, Life and Look. Usually to see if I can find an old cover I remember from childhood but often they will contain historical perspectives of events from our past as they were seen in real time.
Oh, my, yes!! I have intact copies of news magazines, newspapers, and National Geographics (before NG went woke) going back to the 1960s: JFK assassination, Vietnam, POW homecomings, Nixon resignation, etc.

I have the complete set of Spurgeon books… His sermons are real attention-getters!
My most treasured work of his is Treasury of David – his commentaries on the psalms. I have some other smaller works. One of the amazing aspects of the Treasury of David is the hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of quotes and excerpts included from other theologians, etc. – many of which go WAY BACK. These guys were readers, writers, thinkers, collectors and collaborators in the most amazing ways … to our benefit. I often thank God for those who went before us – and whose good works we are able to read today. Pretty astounding.

With all the climate change and global warming alarm bells sound in the EU … because of the heatwave and wildfires, I did a quick check on the weather reports back to 1926 as remember from my historical readings the German Army Accounts from 1941 mention record levels of across eastern Europe and Russian Steppes (Ukraine).
Not going into too much detail … there is a clear pattern of about 5-7 year cycles where the temperatures became very very warm … with more than few cycles having heat across the Europe passing 100 degrees F. In fact, the Royal Weather Service of the UK commented on weather histories covering WWII that had 1940-41 had the same very wet cool temperatures of 1939-40, the RAF would have had to abandon nearly every one of the Grass Airfields during the Battle of Brittan … used to disperse the RAF to protect from German Attacks on their “landed” aircraft.

Nick Shirley’s Ceuta video goes viral as he alleges man threatened him
The conservative YouTuber Nick Shirley alleges that he has been threatened while reporting on the recent influx of migrants into the Spanish territory of Ceuta.
Last week saw tens of thousands cross from Morocco to Ceuta, in what the leaders of both the enclave and Spain have described as a “violation” of “territorial integrity.” On Monday, Spanish officials said that around 69,500 migrants who initially crossed over had returned to Morocco, leaving an estimated 2,500 still in Ceuta—a town of around 84,000.
Shirley, meanwhile, said that Spain had “literally opened their gates upon arrival” for the Moroccan migrants, and that Ceuta had “now effectively shut down due to looting concerns, and the military is losing power as migrants outnumber them and continue to escape into the mountains.”
“Now thousands of military age men are set to spread throughout Europe due to one country’s ‘failure,’ he wrote on X.
Shirley, who gained prominence for videos documenting alleged fraud in Minnesota, traveled to the town where he has been interviewing locals and migrants. The main, 29-minute video of this trip has amassed over eight million views on X and more than 900,000 on YouTube as of Tuesday morning. In one clip, Shirley appears to be pursued by several individuals, including a man he said was carrying a knife, before Spanish police escorted him and his crew back to their vehicle.

The news story that was going around said some people saw a strange person and then saw smoke, notified the cops, cops jacked up the strange person and then let them go, fire spread, people on social media started talking/raging about reporting the strange person near the smoke/fire, then the cops went and found the strange person and arrested them.
What’s strange is there’s no arrest photo and the details are so sketchy.
This story doesn’t add up and it’s sounding like a false flag.
