They tell us to use a good translation, but not what they recommend.
I still have a KJV in my night stand and while I like comparing translations at https://biblehub.com/john/8-24.htm I don’t think I am qualified to recommend one. (It might help to make a decision for myself first.)

Looks like one could dive deep into the weeds getting comparisons and criticisms of the different translations. And that there are many different things to look out for.
Also, I chose John 8:24 because it is discussed in the Aug 2 message coming up next. “to he, or not to he.” The ESV joined the KJV in adding the he.

As did I. One Saturday in Walmart while intentionally going the wrong way in a one-way aisle, not wearing a mask (never did) I was confronted by a young, masked man who started yelling at me for my infractions. As I stood just watching him escalate his reactions I calmly asked him if he was the mask/one-way aisle policeman and if he was could I see his badge. That sent him over the edge at which point he ripped off his mask to scream nasty words at me. I don’t think he saw the irony in the situation. Fun times.

Biography: Alexander Graham Bell was a Scottish-born inventor, known for having patented the first telephone and for co-founding the American Telephone and Telegraphy Company (AT&T) in 1885.
Bell was inspired to work in hearing and speech by his family’s work in the field, and the fact that his mother and wife were both deaf. It was research on hearing devices that led to the invention which would come to be known as the telephone, which he patented in 1876.
His work built upon the work of Hermann von Helmholtz, who had managed to convey vowel sounds by use of a tuning fork contraption. Bell figured that this implied the possibility of communicating articulate speech.
Bell’s major break came after his use of a phonautograph, which drew the shape of sound waves on smoked glass by tracing their vibrations. He then devised a way of converting this motion to variations in electrical current which could then, at the receiving end, be converted back into sound.
Wild Bill had Aces and 8’s and still lost the hand. A moment later Jack McCall shot Wild Bill in the back of the head because he had lost his money the previous evening to Hickok.

COMMENTARY FOR 1 CORINTHIANS 14
Prophecy preferred to the gift of tongues. (1-5) The unprofitableness of speaking in unknown languages. (6-14) Exhortations to worship that can be understood. (15-25) Disorders from vain display of gifts; (26-33) and from women speaking in the church. (34-40)
Scripture truth, plainly and duly taught, has a wonderful power to awaken the conscience and touch the heart.
26-33 Religious exercises in public assemblies should have this view; Let all be done to edifying. As to the speaking in an unknown tongue, if another were present who could interpret, two miraculous gifts might be exercised at once, and thereby the church be edified, and the faith of the hearers confirmed at the same time. As to prophesying, two or three only should speak at one meeting, and this one after the other, not all at once. The man who is inspired by the Spirit of God will observe order and decency in delivering his revelations. WE ARE FIGHTING A SPIRITUAL WAR OF GOOD VERSUS EVIL
PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD
Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. All other ground is sinking sand, I pray that I will not slip or fall, but that my feet would be firmly fitted on your lordship, my Lord Jesus. I choose to stand on you, so that the peace of God, which transcends all understanding will guard my heart and mind in Christ Jesus, the eternal Rock of Ages. I pray on the Helmet of Salvation, that you might protect my mind from the thoughts that can lead me astray. I choose to take every thought captive, and arrest all intentioned ideas and motives that would harm others, or distract me from your holy will for me. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.
Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.
Thank you my Lord, for the spiritual weapons of armor and prayer that you have given me. It is written no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and you will refute every tongue that accuses me.

A sad Sunday saga – with (I hope) a happy ending
Two Wednesdays ago I was diagnosed with shingles.
The Urgent Care nurse prescribed Valacyclovir, a pill i could neither swallow nor break down into smaller pieces (not with a hammer nor piill splitter). Hailed to pharmacy for help and got switched to acyclovir suspension. Had to take 5×20 ml doses per day.
Along the way I had some colon problems. Metamucil was recommended, bought and dosed.
A week went by and the shingles seemed to diminish with the help of a product called Phytobiotic Spray (Time Labs) and companion capsules .. plus my concoction of coconut oil enriched with lavender, tea tree and frankincense\ce essential oils.
Oh, and for all who have given wonderful suggestions, my nutritional support was not lacking.
Except – I seemed to be feeling worse every day. Not because of the usual shingles problem – pain – but something systemic.
I somehow made it to Friday, getting more feeble by the day. Well, its easy to excuse – I’m 84 with prior problems. That’s why the shingles found a happy home, I figure. Working with my Primary caregiver, I reduced the medication to 2 doses a day for 3 days.
I still feel like I am slipping further down. I am VERY suspicious of the medicine. Yeah, the one everyone insists i must take for the course of time to prevent a recurrence. But putting the stuff in my mouth is nauseating, and i feel like my body is screaming ‘don’t do that to me’.
On a hunch, I did a web search. Lo and behold I found ingredients on the suspension. There is, of course, Acyclovir, which was followed by a list of other chemicals (i am chemically sensitive) , water and sorbitol. Wham to head. A long time ago I learned my body does not handle sugar alcohols. More fun research – it will take days, maybe a week or so for sorbitol to leave my body. Sigh.
Then another light bulb went off in my brain. What is in the Metamucil I bought? . Look at label – sugar free. oh oh.
Found ingredients. Aspartame. This killer turns into a kind of formaldehyde in the body – a pure poison for me.
So, here I sit on a Sunday afternoon. No medical help available (except ED or urgent care)
I will take no more of my medicine and will replace the Metamucil with one sweetened with real sugar. Shingles seems no longer to be a problem. Time to detox and rebuild
If there is a moral to the story it may be that the problem to be solved may cause more, harder to recognize and solve, problems.
A happy ending – God be willing, of course

The average person consumes 100 to 150 lbs sugar per year. 80 percent of that is consumed in soft drinks, candy, cereal and baked goods. If you don’t use that much sugar, somebody else is consuming

The term natural sugar refers to those sugars which are derived from plant material and not made in a laboratory. The definition of ‘natural’ is moot. the US – Stevia, aspartame, sucralose, neotame, acesulfame potassium and saccharin. Natural sugar substitutes include sorbitol and xylitol. Wickipedia has a list of natural sugar substitutes which includes inulin, maltitol, mannitol, sorbitol, stevia and xylitol. Other natural sugar substitutes include agave, coconut and lou han.

I wasn’t sure whether to post what i did, but i thought maybe some would benefit.
At this point it’s not so much healing as recovering from the recent abuse.
All i i can say about digestive issues is try as much as possible to eat real food and become an avid reader of labels on manufactured or made in store products. As has been suggested to me, eating smaller meals more often eases pressure on the digestion.

Ethylene glycol <<< extremely high concentrations toxic… like Antifreeze… kidney failure, pets love it because it is sweet.
water water yes – and Vita Coco coconut water is a rich source of electrolytes. in addition, i have Spirulina. it helped pull radiation out of kids after Chernoble – another good detot (of many)
Look into this; it may be helpful.

and 1 in between

So glad you have shared! I’ve been having quite a time with being hypersensitive to ingredients in food and medicine. Been on a long learning curve this year needing to eliminate things from what I ingest. Interesting to me is that my sensitivities fluctuate. Why that would be IDK. But for now I am able to enjoy things that I had to cut out just months ago. I’m going to save everything you wrote in case I need it. Sure wish someone would write a book to guide us all in one place!

anyone can have a problem with anything. when Doc and I were actively selling nutritionals to doctors (and their patients) the current advice was to rotate foods – that is, not eat the same food any more often than every 4 days. Since we are creatures of habit, that is super hard to do.
And, my liddle old mudder, who was a really good chiropractor / nutritionist said read the label. if you can’t pronounce the ingredient avoid it.
in my defense, macular and glaucoma nerve damage makes reading ingredients on labels near impossible. but i admit to not double checking on line listings. sigh
ps – there are books on these matters. the trick is to know which authors know their subject. Doc said ‘those who think they know it all ara a sore trial to those who do know.
I’ve been noticing that with the advent of vision problems a part of my brain seems to have gotten lazy as if it’s tired of all the contortions I have to go through to be sure I am seeing correctly. So I have to monitor myself for lazy brain 🥴!
For me I found that TVP was my biggest issue, Textured Vegetable Protein, that is I think ADM’s trademark version other copy cats…. also a code name for MSG which has 40+ code names so they do not have to disclose it, some still say MSG free…. LOL…. not.
TVP is in everything… meat/protein cheap substitute.
Dr’s recommended Metamucil, but that made things worse…. Benefiber worked tho instead.
I try to just cook from scratch. Rarely get premade food. I see the TVP in bulk section of one store I go to but never knew why I would want it. Not even curious especially not after reading here!
I’m allergic to Senna. Tears up my insides so painfully 😳. I’m assuming that’s from Senna?
I tolerated the acyclovir pill well. Next round the next doctor switches it to Valcyclovir pill which I couldn’t tolerate at all. If you have a patient with known sensitivities why would you switch from something they can take to an unknown? I also judged my mother to be having some kind of psychological problem when she started having this. Now I have it. Just super sensitive to just about everything. For now my situation has calmed and I can eat various meats which I couldn’t for most of this year. I really resent how doctors are overtly hostile and dismissive to patients with this issue.
Can you replace the Metamucil with prunes?

Heavenly Father, thank You for bringing me through this day and Lord, forgive me for the times when I have wandered outside Your best will for me, instead of trusting You implicitly.
Thank You, that You are such a gracious Shepherd to me and that You come and rescue me even when I lose my way and stray from the path that You have laid out for me.
As I look back over today, I know Lord that there were things that I should have said and done differently, and times when I reacted in a manner that was not honouring Your holy name. Forgive me I pray, but thank You, Father, that You always faithfully prepared to gently bring me back to Yourself.
Give me a good night’s sleep I pray, knowing that there is no condemnation because I am in Christ, and may I wake up in the morning refreshed and ready to do Your will. In Jesus’ name I pray,

Heavenly Father, as I lie down to sleep tonight, I pray that You would guard my sleeping and protect my mind from wandering thoughts and unnecessary planning. Teach me to wait for Your perfect timing and not to try to plan my future in my own strength.
Lord, I know that You have scheduled every day of my life. Help me to trust You in all things and rely on You to lead me along the straight path and guide me in the direction that You would have me to go.

Praise Your holy name Heavenly Father, for granting yet another day in my life and for being with me every step of the way. Thank You for the many blessings that You have provided and the love and fellowship that I have with the friends and family that in Your grace You have placed in my life.
