Prayers up for the Hill Country of TX. Massive flooding, I think this was yesterday:
Have a trip scheduled to look at two dams in the area early next week. (Dam Engineer)
Was down there last year after the tragedy at Camp Mystic. Assisted them with their main entrance river crossing into the camp area.
The devastation along the South Fork Gudalupe River was completely incomprehensible.
Debris 35 feet high in the upper branches of the few remaining cypress trees along the outside canyon of the river valley.
Most of the river was scoured and stripped clean of vegetation.
Many homes and cabins just stripped down to slabs.
Debris piled 12 feet high on each side of the road, for several miles.
Saddest thing I ever saw in that once pristine and idyllic stretch of the Guadalupe.
This area gets slammed by flooding regularly. I’ve been their for a couple, and its pretty awe inspiring if you’re on high ground.
Beautiful area, but becoming over run by people escaping Blue states who are not familiar with the terrain and weather patterns. Tragic results.
Kind of like the ice storms in Dallas, around January and February?

I grew up in the area… We were always warned to stay out of the river bottoms during rainy season…
There were signs on every road that crossed a bayou or a river warning “FLASH FLOOD AREA”…
The rivers there have limestone bottoms and don’t soak up the excess water…
The rivers are still there, the warning signs have been removed… Newcomers, guests, and Yankees are not warned about the flash floods…
The building permit outfit that allowed Camp Mystic to be built should be charged with murder…
Why would they ever remove the warning signs? Is weaponized weather an integral part of this ‘depopulation’ agenda we’ve been forewarned of?
Have no idea why the warning signs are no longer posted, Judith… Perhaps they were old, faded and worn and the County “governments” decided to save $$$ by not replacing them…
My question would be: Why were building permits approved to build Camp Mystic on a river known for flash flooding?
It’s possible the signs were taken out by the floods.
We’ll have to wait for the official rainfall depth and duration.
However, some news reports saying the Guadalupe River crested higher than last year’s devasting flood that occurred upstream of Kerrville above Hunt.
I’ve written a paper and made a presentation about extreme rainfall events in Texas. The most extreme events in the contiguous U. S. have occurred in Texas.
45 inches fell in 24 hours in 1978 during Hurricane/Tropical Storm Amelia.
Many other documented extreme rainfall events have occurred in Texas.
No deaths reported for this recent event, as yet. Most often occur at crossings, being swept into the creeks and rivers.
Turn around. Don’t drown.
There is no doubt the excess rainfall is caused by continual seeding of the clouds by our federal government…
Drove from OKC to Dallas last year on a clear day.
The whole drive we watched as a number of high altitude planes cross crossed the sky from east horizon to west horizon and back, laying in contrails that did not dissalate but spread out and joined to create complete cloud cover over what had been a sunny day.

NW San Antonio had a tornado yesterday morning. Another abnormal summer flood. Spring, or hurricanes in the gulf are usually the time to see tornadoes and buckets of rain. Many of these places received over 20” of rain. I’ve lost track. It’s still raining in some of these places.
Hey lolli, I saw a local reporter out in the pre-dawn hours in Kerrville and he said he saw a couple of cars with their headlights on floating down the river in town. Also had video of a part of a building floating down and crashing into the bridge! Horrible this is happening again.😢🙏🏼

Yes. Uvalde is bad. Hondo hit hard. Then it moved north and hit the Kerrville area. Boerne was under shelter in place yesterday. They still had very heavy rain all night, so I do not know what is going on today. The river was already flooding the town. This will be a mess.

The severity and timing of the flooding is forcing a very painful recall of the horrific tragedy in the hill country summer camps last year.

Now I refer to him as our Great American President Donald J Trump and now understand the brashness is a part of his Schtick. I now am certain that he is the right man in the right place at the right time…Thank You Lord!
Over the decades in interviews like with Oprah, he would toy with the idea of running for president and he’d play it coy and say something like, “only if I have to”.
After 9-11 he became more direct with his thoughts as the swamp got its Terror War, Things like to paraphrase: “War in Iraq is stupid, Gulf War I & II… and now in retrospect he was exactly right.

Clarence Thomas shreds birthright ruling that ‘devalues’ citizenship–Washington Examiner by Jack Birle:
“…The Court today takes the extraordinary step of holding facially unconstitutional the President’s Order excluding from citizenship the children of foreign temporary visitors and illegal aliens,” Thomas said. “In doing so, the Court adds to the sad history of the Fourteenth Amendment, which was designed and understood to secure equal rights for the freed blacks but has instead been repurposed for political projects that the Reconstruction Congress did not support. Because many potential applications of the President’s Order are consistent with the original public meaning of the Citizenship Clause, I respectfully dissent.”
Thomas’s opinion began with a discussion of the legal definition of “domiciled,” a key word in the constitutional amendment in question, which he described as the “legal word” for where someone’s home is.
“Citizens were not the people who were temporarily passing through a territory or who happened to be born within it. Citizens were the permanent members of the body politic — the people whose roots were in a place, who called that place home, and who would, if necessary, go to war for that place. The law of both state and national citizenship reflected this principle. Domicile was critical for state citizenship,” Thomas wrote.
He then described in detail the history of birthright citizenship leading up to the 14th Amendment, including the infamous Dred Scott decision, which ruled that black slaves were not citizens and which was later overturned by the 14th Amendment, the Civil Rights Act of 1866, and previous Supreme Court decisions on the citizenship clause. Thomas then explained how he believes the president’s executive order is not unconstitutional and instead actually upholds the original meaning of the citizenship clause.
“The Citizenship Clause was enacted for people who were born in this country and called it home. It was enacted for freed slaves such as Dred Scott, who had ‘a domicil’ here and therefore were entitled to sue as citizens. It was enacted for men such as Frederick Douglass, who demanded citizenship ‘not as aliens nor as exiles,’ but as ‘Americans.’ Its authors and supporters promised, over and over again, that it would exclude the children of ‘persons temporarily resident’ here, whom ‘we would have no right to make citizens,’” Thomas wrote.
Thomas argued the majority’s “alternative history is mistaken,” and he pushed back on accusations from the majority that the evidence for his own viewpoint is “scant.”
“I see it differently. The Court cites little evidence from the Reconstruction Congress that gave us the Citizenship Clause. And, its other 19th-century evidence is slim in comparison,” Thomas wrote. “As for the evidence in support of my position, it is substantial. Representative Bingham, the architect of the Fourteenth Amendment, believed that the Citizenship Clause would not apply to the children of temporary visitors. Senator Trumbull, a principal champion of the Amendment, agreed. Jacob Howard, who introduced the Citizenship Clause, agreed. Congressman after Congressman during the legislative debates agreed. Congress in 1870 agreed.”
“President Grant’s Attorney General agreed. President Grant’s Attorney General before that agreed. The Supreme Court in 1873 agreed. State legislatures agreed. Executive Branch decisionmakers over the course of multiple decades agreed. Justice Miller agreed. Thomas Cooley agreed. A battery of other eminent scholars agreed. And, the great Justice John Marshall Harlan, on three separate occasions, agreed. Once again, ‘I am quite comfortable in the company I keep,’” Thomas added.
He concluded by accusing the majority of reaching its decision based on its “preferred rights” rather than looking to the text and history of the citizenship clause, and he delivered a grim prediction for the fate of Tuesday’s ruling.
“Meanwhile, the Court has repurposed the Fourteenth Amendment to protect its own set of preferred rights that the Reconstruction Congress never contemplated and that cannot find support in its text. Today, the Court does so again by recognizing a constitutional right to citizenship for the children of all foreign birth tourists and illegal aliens,” Thomas wrote.
“I am not sure that today’s opinion will stand the test of time. The Citizenship Clause ‘added greatly to the dignity and glory of American citizenship.’ Today’s opinion devalues that citizenship. I respectfully dissent,” Thomas concluded his opinion.” …….

I’m always pretty quick to default to states rights and would agree with you, however, on this issue, it seems to me for there to be a strong case that we should have nationwide consistency on time. Interstate commerce and a healthy populace is in the country as a whole best interest.

Maybe it is as simple as to look at what hours Congress is in session as to why they did not go with standard time.
They like to start late and end late. If you made a rule that says they can only meet with lobbyists and major donors between 6am and 9am they would vote for standard time cause they would be anxious to have breakfast with them instead of late night dinners in DC that leave them groggy in the mornings.

Actually “standard time” was set back in the late 1800’s not by considering any science of the body clock but by going from a sundial to a Railroad set time. When Rail travel started they had to have set schedules in order to not have chaos. Canada and the US set the time zones for the continent. Before every town relied on their own sun dial to set their times.

My concern is that this is just Solomon poisoning the well. If the new evidence is that good, then the speech should be about the dozens or hundreds of arrests that are happening today. I haven’t heard of any arrests, and I don’t think any amount of new paper will convince anyone. The video from State Farm arena wasn’t enough, but we’ll see I guess.
