Memorial of St. Benedict, Abbot
St. Benedict was born at Nursia in Umbria in about 480 and was sent to Rome to be educated but soon left the world to live a solitary life at Subiaco. After living in a cave in the mountains for two years as a hermit, he had acquired such a reputation that disciples came in numbers to join him, and important Roman families entrusted him with the education of their children. He organized a form of monastic life in twelve small monasteries. Under his guidance, as abbot, the monks vowed to seek God and devoted themselves to work and prayer. A few years later, St. Benedict left the district of Subiaco to found the great abbey of Monte Cassino on the heights of Campania. There he wrote his Rule in which are wonderfully combined the Roman genius and the monastic wisdom of the Christian East. He is considered the Father of Western Monasticism and died in 547.

That is my little Coco for sure.
We have three fox families living in our yard. Two have kits, and one mom has three kits that are somewhat fearless and run around at night.
Coco goes outside in the morning (not by herself, and always with mom or dad closeby) and immediately smells the new “neighbors.” It’s then that she turns into the cat on the left and starts heading to where she knows they live. It’s then, too, that she is stopped in her tracks and brought back to the cat on the right, living indoors and being the house princess.

Evening, dear Bet You could be ‘preachin’ to the choir’ . . . I’ve been up to my ears in house problems . . . I have a new window unit air conditioner waiting to be installed tomorrow. I “think” the install may be dead simple. I purchased the same model unit as the one that needs replacing . . . did a little measuring and it looks like this new unit will fit into the existing window casing. If true, my “install” tomorrow can be about 30 minutes or so. Still it’ll be nice to have cool house for a change. A broke air conditioners in Texas summer ain’t fun.
Little ‘Tink is such darlin’ little kitty. She is completely content being in the house near me. She’s in the habit of jumping on the bed each morning. She’s just checking on me. Still, this has become a very touching moment If you allow them to do so, our companion animals can become significant parts of our daily lives. Good kitty! 🙂 Be well, love . . .
Dang, Garrison!! How have you been surviving in this heat??!!!! Last year when our AC gave it up, I wasn’t sure we’d make it. No fun? Understatement. I’m sure you’re measurements are spot on and am really hoping someone else will be installing it. I don’t know if its because we’re older (as in really old) but we are finding it more difficult to deal with the heat that wasn’t debilitating when we were younger.
I’ve taken to leaving a large shallow litter tray outside filled with water for whosoever of our many visitors, feathered in the day or four footed at night, may wish to cool off. No takers in the day that I’ve caught, but I know either possums or raccoons at night take advantage because there is always dirt in it when I check. Whatever I can do…

I think it is now the ‘Dolphin Bar and Shrimp House’. Went there with Dad shortly after Mom passed…at that time, there were many big stars of the day, framed and autographed photos on the walls…

Biography: Of Russian and Jewish heritage, George Gershwin grew up in the tenements of New York to become one of the 20th century’s most important composers.
Gershwin worked as a “song plugger” from the age of 15, his first big hit was the song “Swanee” with words by Irving Caesar. He went on to produce the classical work, “Rhapsody in Blue” in 1924, establishing his ability to mix different musical styles, from classical to jazz to popular music.
A number of musicals followed which have become classics including “Funny Face” (1927), “An American in Paris (1928) and “Girl Crazy” (1930), which made a star of Ginger Rogers. Many of his musicals were written with his older brother Ira Gershwin as the lyricist, including the opera “Porgy and Bess” which premiered in 1935.
In 1936 Gershwin moved to Hollywood to write music for films, winning his sole Academy Award (with brother Ira) for “They Can’t Take That Away from Me” from the 1937 film “Shall We Dance”. The honor came posthumously, as he died of brain tumor complications before the film’s release.
George Gershwin was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1970. The US Postal Service honored George by himself with a commemorative stamp in 1973, and together with his brother Ira in 1999. Biography: Satoru Iwata was a Japanese video game programmer, businessman, and the fourth president and CEO of Nintendo. He led Nintendo from 2002 until his death in 2015, during which time he oversaw several significant developments including the Nintendo DS and Wii game consoles.

Kiddo ate a big plate of raw vegetables last night and I swiped two carrots and a piece of celery from her plate. She uses a combo of ranch dressing and whole Greek yogurt for dip. She destroyed the plate – leaving only a few cucumber slices.
Welp – she’s got an e-ticket to ride and been on “the fastboat to poopsville” since 4:30 this morning and I am on the more “leisurely stroll” – but guess who forgot bananas at the store? Yeah, me. I’ve got Rice, Applesauce, and Toast – missing the Bananas for the BRAT response. I usually keep browning bananas in the freezer for smoothies but those have been consumed in the last banana bread freezer bread batch I baked.
I did make homemade whole milk Greek Yogurt – so maybe a little of that will help? Hope so.

Recipe sharing time – I know – maybe you worry about my present “condition” – ha ha…
But if you’ve never made your own HOMEMADE GREEK YOGURT – oh my goodness – you are MISSING OUT and it’s really easy! Once you do it – you’ll likely never go back to store-bought.
I use a Le Creuset stock pot that will hold 1 gallon of whole milk. You will also need a large piece of finely messed cheese cloth – that I hand wash and hand dry and safely reuse. Also, one of those double-broiler stock pots that has the collinder/strainer insert for the “Greek-Style” version.
OR – if you like super rich, thick, creamy Greek-style yogurt like we do – do these next steps to separate the whey from the yogurt.
Notes: the longer you ferment – the tangier the yogurt. Excellent for eating alone, blended with fruits or in oatmeal, thickeners for cooking sauces like curries and such, or added to your favorite biscuit or muffins recipe in lieu of milk. Quality of milk doesn’t matter – you can use the $2.49/gallon cheap stuff or the organic high-end. Think about cost of good quality Greek yogurt runs about $4.99 for us right now for 32 ounces. You may use skim, 2%, or whole milk – I always use whole because we believe in using whole milk and real butter in this house – and I go for full throttle milk fat. I am a believer in the benefits of nutritious natural fats in our diet for good brain health.

COMMENTARY FOR COLOSSIANS 3:20
The Colossians exhorted to be heavenly-minded; (1-4) to mortify all corrupt affections; (5-11) to live in mutual love, forbearance, and forgiveness; (12-17) and to practise the duties of wives and husbands, children, parents, and servants. (18-25)
18-25 The epistles most taken up in displaying the glory of the Divine grace, and magnifying the Lord Jesus, are the most particular in pressing the duties of the Christian life. We must never separate the privileges and duties of the gospel. Submission is the duty of wives. But it is submission, not to a severe lord or stern tyrant, but to her own husband, who is engaged to affectionate duty. And husbands must love their wives with tender and faithful affection. Dutiful children are the most likely to prosper. And parents must be tender, as well as children obedient. Servants are to do their duty, and obey their masters’ commands, in all things consistent with duty to God their heavenly Master. They must be both just and diligent; without selfish designs, or hypocrisy and disguise. Those who fear God, will be just and faithful when from under their master’s eye, because they know they are under the eye of God. And do all with diligence, not idly and slothfully; cheerfully, not discontented at the providence of God which put them in that relation. And for servants’ encouragement, let them know, that in serving their masters according to the command of Christ, they serve Christ, and he will give them a glorious reward at last. But, on the other hand, he who doeth wrong, shall receive for the wrong which he hath done. God will punish the unjust, as well as reward the faithful servant; and the same if masters wrong their servants. For the righteous Judge of the earth will deal justly between master and servant. Both will stand upon a level at his tribunal. How happy would true religion make the world, if it every where prevailed, influenced every state of things, and every relation of life! But the profession of those persons who are regardless of duties, and give just cause for complaint to those they are connected with, deceives themselves, as well as brings reproach on the gospel.

WE ARE FIGHTING A SPIRITUAL WAR OF GOOD VERSUS EVIL
PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD
Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. All other ground is sinking sand, I pray that I will not slip or fall, but that my feet would be firmly fitted on your lordship, my Lord Jesus. I choose to stand on you, so that the peace of God, which transcends all understanding will guard my heart and mind in Christ Jesus, the eternal Rock of Ages. I receive your holy peace now my Lord, from the sole of my feet to the crown of my head, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray the Shield of Faith into my hand now. As I take up the shield of faith, I ask that you might extinguish every dart and arrow that is launched from the enemy to take me down spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally, and every attempt of the enemy to destroy my joy. I ask that my faith in you would make it flame out. Extinguish every flaming arrow that would come against me, my life, my family, my home, or my ministry. May my faith always be out in front of me like a shield. Give me the courage to “faith my fears” by choosing to walk by faith and not by sight, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Helmet of Salvation, that you might protect my mind from the thoughts that can lead me astray. I choose to take every thought captive, and arrest all intentioned ideas and motives that would harm others, or distract me from your holy will for me. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.
Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.
Thank you my Lord, for the spiritual weapons of armor and prayer that you have given me. It is written no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and you will refute every tongue that accuses me.
Thank you Father God, my Lord Jesus and the Holy Spirit, that I am more than a conqueror in my Lord Jesus. I pray all of this in the mighty name of my Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ, Amen.
