The Church commemorates the Optional Memorial of Saint Augustine Zhao Rong (1746-1815), Priest, and Companions, Martyrs. He was a Chinese diocesan priest who was martyred with 119 other Chinese Catholics. Among their number was an eighteen-year-old boy, Chi Zhuzi, who cried out to those who had just cut off his right arm and were preparing to flay him alive: “Every piece of my flesh, every drop of my blood will tell you that I am Christian.”
The Roman Martyrology commemorates St. Veronica Giuliani (1660-1727), one of the great mystics of history. She had many revelations and received the stigmata.
Blessed Adrian Fortescue (1476-1539) is also commemorated, both in the Roman Martyrology and the Dominican Calendar. He was born around 1480, the son of Sir John Fortescue of Punsborne, Hertfordshire (England). In 1539 he was convicted of High Treason without trial, by an Act of Parliament which condemned fifty persons opposed to Henry VIII’s ecclesiastical policies. Adrian Fortescue was beheaded on Tower Hill, London on Wednesday, July 9, 1539.

A favorite memory from a longer time past. I’d decided to make my morning entrances to my customary faculty parking space a little more dramatic. My practice was to open the windows on my Alfa, open the sunroof, and then crank up a favorite ZZ Top selection on my car’s excellent sound system. The result was always a rather dramatic arrival. The trick was to always treat the intentional dramaturgy as though it was simply a routine matter, something I might do all the time. . . Great way to start one’s teaching day.
Probably more recent but ZZs Viva Las Vegas is a real crank it up to 11.

No, it sure doesn’t, Mrs Feline. We have a small barn we built that is equipped with a large swamp cooler for Wheezie and Olive.
Olive is still with us and seemingly wanting to do so. She is very thin and I spend 2 to 3 hours a day hand feeding (and hiding pills!)
Two weeks ago, 1 of the 3 vets who have been caring for her thought euthanization was a good option. She was in such a terrible state at the time, I wanted her to regain some of her former state of contentment. I’m happy to say she has done that, and if anything, has become more affectionate with us. ❤️
She will let me know when she is ready to leave. They always do.

I’m remembering an actual, Non AI video which an owner took from a distance of her beloved dog which was actually pushing a small chair across the room into the kitchen , up to a counter where there was something delicious and edible he wanted.
The footage showed him on his hind legs, pushing the chair as a wall got in the way of the videographer’s vision. It continued as the scene reappeared with the most hilarious shot of all.
He was up on the chair, eating the forbidden food. The look on his face when he realized he had been caught 😂

I enjoy Solzhenitsyn’s books and have read just about everything you can get your hands on of his in America, but Solzhenitsyn was no fan of America. That doesn’t mean what he said is not relevant, much of it applies to the US.

Solzhenitsyn was expelled from the Soviet Union in 1974. After a brief stay in Switzerland, he found a refuge in the remote woods of Vermont. Yet Solzhenitsyn found no peace there. His years in America would prove to be full of strife, not of the Soviet variety, but that of a particular kind of American collectivism. In this newly translated second part of Solzhenitsyn’s memoir of exile, we see a man caught between two worlds—his beloved home, Russia, and his refuge in America—attempting to reach some kind of personal reconciliation. This spiritual task proved rather difficult. As Daniel J. Mahoney notes in the foreword, one of the “millstones” that Solzhenitsyn felt pressed by was “an uncomprehending and increasingly hostile West.”
It may be hard for some readers to understand Solzhenitsyn’s feeling of oppression. After all, in America one is able to be free. But for Solzhenitsyn, American-style freedom was part of the problem. “The insane difficulty of the situation is that I can’t ally myself with the Communists, our country’s butchers—but I can’t really ally myself with our country’s enemies either,” he writes. “And all this time I have no home ground to support me. The world is big, and there’s nowhere to go. Two millstones.”
Solzhenitsyn didn’t just criticize U.S. policy—he criticized what he saw as the moral/spiritual direction of the American (and wider Western) society. In his speeches, he repeatedly points to:
Freedom without responsibility
Secular/materialist humanism
Failure of Western elites (and parts of the public) over major crises—especially Vietnam

No never came across that book. I consider ‘Cancer Ward’ his best book. The ‘Gulag Archepelig’ is very good but long, three volumes. Of course everyone starts with ‘A Day In The Life Of Ivan Denisovich’.
I do have the set ‘ The Complete Works of Isaac Babel’. Another Jewish writer critical of the Soviets but he wasn’t as lucky, Beria executed him in 1940.
When it comes to anyone who attempts to write about or speak about or teach about the Orthodox Christian Church in Russia and the Church Abroad (in whatever language), it is absolutely necessary to examine the personal backgrounds, beliefs, and so forth of those individuals, especially those who are of more recent vintage.
One must weed out all that is not genuine; there is much.
There are many who fall into intellectual pitfalls out of pride, thinking they know or understand more than they truly do, or who choose to set forth false ideas of the Orthodox Christian Church in Russia and the Church Abroad.
A.I. Solzhenitsyn had certain friends and acquaintances who helped him understand the spiritual and moral anarchy and soul-corrupting conditions in America. He grieved both for his homeland and for his adopted country.
He reposed on August 16th (Patristic Church Calendar) or August 3rd (civil calendar) in 2008.

Took our sweet chocolate lab, Clarence Thomas, to the dog beaches in California when we knew he had little time. We still refer to it as, Clarence’s vacation – and it is still our favorite.
I can’t believe it has been 25 years. He was having trouble getting up and down in those days, but was somehow able to steal all the other balls people were throwing!

COMMENTARY FOR 2 THESSALONIANS 2:15
Cautions against the error that the time of Christ’s coming was just at hand. There would first be a general apostacy from the faith, and a revealing of the antichristian man of sin. (1-4) His destruction, and that of those who obey him. (5-12) The security of the Thessalonians from apostacy; an exhortation to stedfastness, and prayer for them. (13-17)
13-15 When we hear of the apostacy of many, it is a great comfort and joy, that there is a remnant according to the election of grace, which does and shall persevere; especially we should rejoice, if we have reason to hope that we are of that number. The preservation of the saints, is because God loved them with an everlasting love, from the beginning of the world. The end and the means must not be separated. Faith and holiness must be joined together as well as holiness and happiness. The outward call of God is by the gospel; and this is rendered effectual by the inward working of the Spirit. The belief of the truth brings the sinner to rely on Christ, and so to love and obey him; it is sealed by the Holy Spirit upon his heart. We have no certain proof of any thing having been delivered by the apostles, more than what we find contained in the Holy Scriptures. Let us then stand fast in the doctrines taught by the apostles, and reject all additions, and vain traditions.

WE ARE FIGHTING A SPIRITUAL WAR OF GOOD VERSUS EVIL
PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD
Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. All other ground is sinking sand, I pray that I will not slip or fall, but that my feet would be firmly fitted on your lordship, my Lord Jesus. I choose to stand on you, so that the peace of God, which transcends all understanding will guard my heart and mind in Christ Jesus, the eternal Rock of Ages. I receive your holy peace now my Lord, from the sole of my feet to the crown of my head, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray the Shield of Faith into my hand now. As I take up the shield of faith, I ask that you might extinguish every dart and arrow that is launched from the enemy to take me down spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally, and every attempt of the enemy to destroy my joy. I ask that my faith in you would make it flame out. Extinguish every flaming arrow that would come against me, my life, my family, my home, or my ministry. May my faith always be out in front of me like a shield. Give me the courage to “faith my fears” by choosing to walk by faith and not by sight, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Helmet of Salvation, that you might protect my mind from the thoughts that can lead me astray. I choose to take every thought captive, and arrest all intentioned ideas and motives that would harm others, or distract me from your holy will for me. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.
Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.
Thank you my Lord, for the spiritual weapons of armor and prayer that you have given me. It is written no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and you will refute every tongue that accuses me.

{ Caitlin Clark’s Coach Sabotages Her First Game Back Since Brutal Assault }
I hope CC ends up suing the coach for negligence, *all* the bat-guano-crazy criminals who have openly assaulted her, ‘on the court’, AND the WNBA for openly demonstrating racism against her for being “a minority” in the organization by allowing it all to take place unchecked… abundant evidence is already documented on video of their own actions & words and failure to stop it, demonstrating complicity with the repeated attacks.
The coach cites “hate” & “racism” as “problematic” – any half-lucid lawyer can use that statement against herself… it’s obviously True – even though, btw, she was saying it specifically to defend all the other racist assailants besides herself;
hate & racism against CC is blatant and she just admitted it.
I don’t care about the sport – I care that they’re literally trying to kill the most highly skilled player *because* of all the jealousy, envy, resentment, and inadequacy within so many over her just being who & what she IS… by far the best one of them.
The team and coach should sue the league for fixing every game against them.
The coach is a big part of the problem… not new for her to have 1) a losing record elsewhere while 2) failing the players on the team she ‘coaches’… *imo* she’s secretly betting &/or somehow & getting paid to lose
They are demonstrating how they enforce mediocrity in the workplace. Part of the reason people care is because they’ve lived through this. It’s a national problem and it needs to stop.
