One Fourth of July, my late father-in-law managed to befriend a local fireworks operator so that we were able to be present at the process of shooting-off the show. These were ATF-licensed eight inch mortars: the big guns.
And what was most interesting to me was to watch how they did it. They checked all the fuses one more time before nightfall. Then, they lit off the entire show by walking around, according to a script, with blowtorches. (Yes: “Fire in the hole!”) Everyone wore goggles and hearing protection, and had a headlamp. The fuses were long.
Oddly enough, the entire area was very quiet: only a “thump” of the lifting charges going off. The action was taking place high overhead. The finale was packaged into a giant “cake,” off by itself, strapped together, and lit with a single fuse.
Once the entire show was finished, they walked around with backpacks with water tanks on them, and poured water into every single tube. Whether or not they knew it had successfully fired. So that anything that hadn’t fired would be drowned. The water drained out. Then, they left it to be cleaned up the next day.
While the various crew members walked around firing the show, one of them was standing there in the middle, looking at a list, observing everything. Presumably a safety officer.
Friends of mine are licensed in Wisconsin and I got the chance to be very close to launch site, many times. Great big thumps!
The DC show had to be electronic firing and some of those shells were 12″ tubes. It’s basically a bowling ball of gunpowder.
Very interesting to see some greenish silver shells. Not very common.
The “lifting charge,” while powerful, is fully contained within the mortar tube. This is why you only hear a “thump.”
According to someone that I talked to at the time, electronic firing is another option although it is inherently more vulnerable to weather. A fuse, once lit, is gonna go: a piece of primacord, “poof!” Both strategies, electric and fuse, are fully understood.
(FYI: “Fuse” burns over an exact period of time. “Primacord,” instantly.)
The shows, in all cases, are meticulously planned: “the spreadsheet says to cut this piece 16.5 inches long.” Which you do, and someone else checks it. And, so on.
Obviously, the national show would have been electrically fired . . .
No, you don’t get to use or buy this stuff without an ATF (Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms) government license. And, inspection.
It is a fraternity . . . I felt very privileged to be able to watch it from a safe, designated, out-of-the-way, distance.

I have the faith that the Lord put the right man in the right place at the right time, picking our 250th Birthday as part of the setting.
This is no less a heavy lift than Moses “set my people free” or the parting the Red Sea, Gideon and his 300, David vs Goliath, Elijah taking on Ahab and Jezebel, or more recent, 101st Screaming Eagles at Bastogne, you pick, it’s a big deal.
What President Trump is attempting to correct is a gargantuan task, this level of entrenched evil, will take divinely inspired courage, faith, unity, patience and time.
As crappy as it’s been in the past few years, speaking for myself and the world, this is a “can’t see the forest for the trees” scenario, If we screw up this once in a lifetime opportunity by expecting exacting perfection, or unrealistic time schedules, this works against our goal of restoration of the USA.
Our Great American President Donald J Trump’s success is vital.
His success is our victory; our victory means the end of the Deep State and a better world for Americans and the West as a whole. His loss would be the end of President Trump, think the Romanov’s after the Bolsheviks seized power in Russia the end of the USA and probably, American Civil War II.
With that in mind, President Trump has been moving at a withering pace; he has the swamp rats exposed and on their heels.
He’s recently been making denotative statements like “all roads lead to Obama” using terms like sedition and treason. He said, “we have total control”, at Teddy Roosevelt Library. He’s not bandying about the fact that Communism is a “mortal enemy” with the outbreak of DSA.
Words mean things, especially at the Presidential level, specifically Commander-in-Chief.
How does he have total control? …what is his recourse for Sedition/Treason? …or that something is a “mortal enemy” of the USA?
There are many things he can do, I expect him to go after them, if not, it’ll be his head on the proverbial chopping block.

But, the aforementioned corrupt politicians are still out there, still free and still allowed to steal “elections”…

But, due to the fact that our “DOJ” is sorely afraid of the aforesaid corrupt politicians, the DOJ protects them rather than enforcing existing law…
Expect more stolen elections and voter fraud in November in Californication and numerous other states. I’m not quite sure why our DOJ is sorely afraid of these corrupt politicians. Call me naive but if there is evidence of corruption, indict them, try them, convict them and imprison them. Or at least bankrupt them and humiliate them and strip them of their law license or whatever credentials they have. Why can’t the DOJ at least do that?
Timing, not haste, determines outcomes.
We fight the war in the battlespace we have and plan accordingly. If compared to WWII, at what point in the timeline would we currently be at?
I think October of 1943; in the Pacific Japanese Naval power has been degraded at the Battle of Midway, Guadalcanal has been secured preserving the overseas highway to Australia, and the move to isolate the Japanese base at Rabaul with Operation Cartwheel has begun. In Europe, Russia has turned the tide on the Eastern front with its recent victory at Kursk, daylight bombing without fighter escort is showing its limitations with the losses of Black Week, Germans have been driven from North Africa and Sicily, the slog of Italy has begun after the landings at Salerno, and the early stages of planning for Operation Overlord have begun.
Yes, the initiative has been gained, but there is still a lot of fighting and dying left in October of 1943, respectfully I don’t think it would be an appropriate time to ask why Hitler and Tojo aren’t dead yet.
Not only has Trump’s operations so far been more effective than anything else against the enemy we face so far, the sequencing of those operations in his march order has demonstrated strategic brilliance.

This is quite a poignant observation.

Reflecting on our 250 years, I realized that I have been a citizen for 27.2% of those years. That is a significant amount of that time. Many on this site have even higher percentages.
What that means to me is that this country is truly a young country and we are the ones still building it. We have a responsibility far beyond what many of us take the time to think about sometimes, It is during anniversaries like now when we need to redouble our efforts to fight the corruption that has seeped into our system and remove the rot that will weaken our constitutional republic.
We have to take it back at the local level first. Cleaning up local voter rolls. Each state can have their own SAVE Act, welfare reform, etc. Eventually enough states can make a difference at the federal level. Focus on the state where you live. States’ rights were very much an important principle of our Founders.
A key notion that apparently most States these days have forgot.
The name of this nation was never “The Federal Government.” It was “the United(!) States(!!)”

Yet the deal it produced, while still in final negotiations, seems to be a draw at best and, in many ways, favors Iran. Threatening to resume the bombing, as President Donald Trump has done several times, misunderstands why.
The US was engaged in two air wars simultaneously — one of destruction, and one of disruption. It lost the one that mattered most.
The first — the air war of destruction — centered on the US and Israel seizing the airspace high above Iran and exploiting it to strike at scale. Above 20,000 feet, where stealth and precision-guided munitions decide outcomes, the US military performed exactly as designed. It achieved air superiority over large swaths of southern and western Iran, degraded air defenses, sank much of Iran’s traditional navy, and damaged elements of its missile and drone capabilities. The war of destruction was measured in targets (DMPIs, or “desired mean points of impact” in military parlance) hit and capabilities destroyed. By those metrics, the US won.
Yet Iran managed to keep the Strait of Hormuz effectively closed. A second air war — a war not of destruction but of disruption, imposing psychological and economic costs until the fighting became politically unbearable — decided that.
From the first day of this conflict, Iran’s drones and missiles were aimed not at preventing American air superiority over Tehran, but at making it beside the point. Having largely ceded the higher altitudes, Tehran shifted its military effort downward, to the air littoral — the low-altitude airspace — over and around the Strait of Hormuz, where inexpensive drones and missiles proved sufficient to make the world’s most important energy chokepoint too costly and dangerous to transit, for commercial vessels and the US Navy alike.
Put another way: Iran did not need to win the war of destruction. It needed to make winning it not feel worth it to the US.

The framework agreement now being worked out is a measure of which air war mattered more. Trump’s threat to hit Iran “very hard again, only harder” misses the point. The US air campaign did not fail because it was not intense enough. It failed because it prioritized the air war that did not decide the outcome. More bombs will not win the war that mattered.
The question was never who controls the skies over Tehran. It was always who wins the war of disruption below them.

My job required me as the Rapid Equipping Force chief to literally go to every brigade all the way down to the troop level up to the commander level and everything in between to find out what they needed, how the whatever was going on site. So I got to go and talk to them. Well, I went to many of the, I noticed it mostly at the battalion level, but definitely company and below these guys were just like what you’re talking about.
They were they were sharp, they were focused, they were well-trained, and they were motivated, and they were professional, and they were getting the job done, but they were intensely frustrated because they didn’t have answers to the question, what are we here for? What is the objective? What are we trying to accomplish? And too many times the leadership would tell them well we’re here to perform these tactical tasks. They think okay well we can do that. We can definitely do that just like you said in the current [Iran] fight right now. We can execute that, but towards what end? What are we trying to accomplish?
Uh oh well we’re trying to make the people reject the Taliban and want to go with their government. And they’re like well they’re not going to. They know that we’re here on a 12-month deployment just like we know that. And all the Taliban is going to do is wait us out and the people here know that. They know it intensely. The Taliban were telling them if you go with the government and go against them, the minute that these guys leave, we’re coming right back in and we’ve taken names and we’re going to remember. And so he said the people aren’t going to do that. And we would tell that up to the chain of command and they’d say do these tactical tasks and then we’re going to leave and then we’re going to hand it off to the next guy until finally we’re not going to hand it off to anybody.
And exactly what they worried about is exactly what happened. And the pain that caused this particular unit I’m thinking of here in the Arghandab Valley was he said look we’ve already lost, I forget what the number was, like seven or eight killed in action up to that point one of which was one of the company first sergeants and the company commander just pulled me aside, you know, he didn’t want anybody else to hear and he just was agonizing. He said, “How am I going to go and tell his wife when we get back that he died for the country, that he died for a greater purpose?” He goes, “I’m probably going to end up telling her something that, you know, to assuage her.” But he said, “But my conscience, I know it’s not true. None of these guys died for our country. We died because we’re here doing a mission which tactically can be successful, but it means nothing and the minute that we leave it’s going to be as though we were never there” and his words were absolutely proven to be true and so you got to wonder now and I didn’t keep contact with those guys afterward so I don’t know whether they stayed [in the military] or whether they didn’t, but I could see at the time their anguish about the senior leadership of the of the country.
Meanwhile, that’s at the tactical level, then when I went up to the battalion, brigade and the division levels. Uh it’s like these guys were on another planet because they actually were talking like they are accomplishing something and they were telling people that the generals would go on television and say that they would go in front of the cameras in Senate testimony like David Petraeus which is one of the ones that got me motivated to say something in public because he was telling everybody, “Yeah, we’re succeeding. We’re we got the right azimuth. We finally have the right inputs. The people are turning against the Taliban. We’ve arrested their momentum” and it was all fiction. None of it was true and then we see it on August 21st 2021 the whole thing fell apart and it was a complete disaster.
These guys who go along, who say that kind of stuff, you talk about retention, getting the right people, the guys who said that, who said that it was going good, the two star, three star, four star, they keep going up, brigade commander, division commander, that they got rewarded for that. Meanwhile, the guys who were down there at the company level, who are trying to figure out how they’re going to explain things to the widows of these people who died for nothing, they don’t get promoted.

I remain amazed by the number of folks who just don’t get what’s going on in Iran. Granted, it can be hard to get reliable information given the level of propaganda and willful ignorance on the part of the media, but it can be done.

The big argument I hear about the straight being closed, is a false narrative.
I simply do not accept this position. Being “Colonels” with active battle experience, the only perspective that they have is like that of a hammer: everything is a nail. You respond to everything by bombing the hell out of it, then you wade in with troops and hope for the best.
But, I think that “the Mullahs” anticipated exactly this. What they didn’t anticipate was an unconventional strategy. It would never occur to them that an opponent, possessing undeniable military advantage, would pause his offensive and switch to a different approach.
“Colonels” don’t understand this – and, to be utterly fair, they’re not trained to.
I say this with utter and complete respect for the individuals themselves. But, I do not agree.
Colonel is a fascinating position. You need additional training to become a general. You have gone as high as you can with tactical training, but now you need strategic training. Each service has its own War College.
Someone who leaves as a Colonel, usually has secured retirement. But did they do what it takes to climb the next rung? If they qualified and were trained did they not learn? Or did other ‘flaws’ keep them from getting promoted?
Who knows? Maybe they just couldn’t win the DEI games?
But I suggest we recognize thar retired Colonels, or Captains in the Navy, did not make it to the level that needs strategic training.

I read that something like 42% of the NYC population is foreign born, and also, that around half of total population is receiving government aid. The City’s budget is bigger than Florida’s. Something similar is happening in California, though I don’t know the numbers. That is not sustainable. They will face a financial reckoning one day.

This morning in church, our pastor said that during the Revolution War, George Washington was riding a horse ahead of his army. When that particular fight was over, it was noted there were three bullet holes in his uniform and one in his hat. One of the leaders of the enemy said we train well and we never miss. Why are you still living. He was still living because God was protecting him and God was leading him and the others when they were writing the documents to birth this country. Never forget this country was founded on Christian principles. Our Baptist service today included the Pledge of Allegiance, and patriotic songs. I thank God for our president and pray for his protection daily.
