The first three days are always critical in a major disaster. Aid agencies consider those first 48 to 72 hours as crucial for retrieving people alive, though that can be extended if they have access to food and water.
Venezuelan officials said 17 flights carrying more than 1,600 rescue team members had touched down by Saturday as rescue workers fan out in the most devastated areas. Approximately 6 million people are affected in the quake zone.
Search teams from Mexico, the U.S.A, Brazil, El Salvador, France and other countries are now on the ground. Rescuers search through partially collapsed buildings, pushing their heads into holes in pancaked concrete to search for signs of life, occasionally hearing movement and digging to locate survivors. The work is physical and emotional.

The damages, the deaths, injuries are mind numbing. And the preparation and response from America and other countries, is glorious to see.
“he ain’t heavy, he’s my brother”.
Those poor people have been through so much. They were just starting to get their feet back under them.
RIP to all the innocent victims.
Communist past makes for much more dangerous living conditions, poor construction, poor planning and higher loss of life from disasters.
Praying the survivors embrace and be part of the American System going forward.
Your comment doesn’t make sense.
Yesterday you posted a cringey music video that plainly “sang” that all brown people must be “sent back” and gotten rid of (from the “American system” – so why do you now want them to “be part of the American System going forard”?
You don’t understand what is the “American System”.
One example… to curtail Venezuela’s cooperation with U.S. adversaries (like China, Russia, or Iran) and forces a realignment of its oil sector to favor U.S. firms and overall hemispheric defense benefits for both countries.
The result is an economic environment where Venezuela’s ability to trade freely is restricted, serving as a tool for U.S. geopolitical leverage and mutual commercial and security benefits for both countries.
Perhaps you are new here, I don’t remember seeing you here before, but Sundance writes about the American System frequently so I would suggest you read more about it… it’s really important to understand.
No…..Sharon is not new here. In fact, she’s been here 15 years, and she’s one of this blog’s “founding members”. Both of her sons have also served lengthy careers in our military with honor.
To this day, she serves as a Treehouse Admin Emeritus. She deserves neither your censure nor your snark.
I was going to reply that Sharon has been here longer than Mrs. Sunshine.
And yet there are (so far) 33 “likes” to Mrs. Sunshine’s original comment.
Noticing ☀️
Bots and Sock Puppets are included with all posts.
Does she have 33 fake accounts?
How long has Sunshine been here?
Too long!
Thanks Puddy!!
Tired of this crap from AI Central.
Thank you Ad rem and thank you to Sharon too.
Thank you Ad rem. Sunshine is the new one here and she’s on a branch that has thorns. Many old time Treepers have identified her as problematic and undermining to this blog. Watch how many times she miraculously posts 1st and directs all comments in directions that can thwart the gist of SD’s article. For her to get over 200+ Likes…way more than Sundance….suspicious cat! Her comment to Sharon was her strike to “take over” and elevate herself. In her total ignorance, little did she know who Sharon was. Please monitor her. She quietly undermines, until she determines the moment is right and then strikes against Sharon. IMO and many Treepers, she’s a problem.
Wolverines faithfully patrol the perimeter.
When they said there were 50,000 missing, I thought, “They are probably all here in America.”
Totally inappropriate comment, for the same reason AI Sunshine’s comments were inappropriate.
Do better!
If John Denver was still alive and making music, and if he was a part of the Treehouse Community, this is what he would sing:
“Sunshine, in the Treehouse, makes me weary.
Sunshine, in my eyes, will make me blind.
Sunshine, on the issues, is all wet.
Sunshine, almost always, is first on the comment thread.”
God bless John Denver!
God bless you and your family Sharon! Thank you for speaking truth.
How does it not make sense? Isn’t it rather well-attested to that socialist residential housing tends not to be of very good quality? Frankly, it sounds like you’re just trying to pick a fight over a post in a previous thread.
Not the brightest crayon in the box, huh. 🙄😂
“Frankly, it sounds like you’re just trying to pick a fight over a post in a previous thread.”
I don’t pick fights.
What she asserted on Friday was a sickening and disturbing point of view.
Most of the people in Venezuela are brown – I will not explain that reference: go find the video she posted on Friday.
Her comment yesterday (expressing concern for the living in Venezuela and RIP for the dead in Venezuela) did not make sense in light of the opinion she shared on Friday.
I was clumsy in unnecessarily referencing the “American System” in my response.
I didn’t see what all the kerfuffle regarding what Sunshine said either. Can someone explain it to the extremely conservative ninny that I must be?! I took it to say that communism creates shoddy workmanship and buildings fall down.
It would have been respectful to just stop at the first sentence.
The last sentence of the first post is ok as well.
The middle paragraph is the one causing the pile-on of the tolerant folks that post in the comments.
The explanation in the second post I cannot comment on. Sharon could have scrolled past as so many of us do when we come across something we disagree with
Totally inappropriate comment.
Natural disasters happen in every nation on earth-including America.
The “American System” does not create a force field that shields people from natural disasters.
Rather than criticizing the political/economic system of Venezuela, might I suggest that we pray for the survivors that they may be comforted and healed.
And no-a flippant “RIP” doesn’t count as a prayer.
Disagreed.
100%
That America shows up and acts in times like these and in places like this is genuinely a source of pride, for which America’s detractors simply have no answer.
May God bless America so long as America blesses the world.
God bless and keep all of the emergency responders and rescue workers.
And God bless all who were impacted in Venezuela.
Good thing for them their former “leader” is here and not there….
I have a feeling that as time goes on many will realize that and understand the difference.
Prayers, Prayers, and PRAYERS!!!!
Blessings and Godspeed to everyone affected and may the responders find Divine Energies in their Efforts!!! 🙂
Dear God in Heaven, we offer up prayers for all those participating in the search and rescue operations, both human and canines…that You give them the emotional and physical strength they need to continue their efforts in the heat and sadness. Please give them what they need, and more, and please give those trapped and not yet found, inner strength to be a survivor until the help arrives, strengthen the human survival instinct, asking for those working to set up the field hospitals and work in them, strength and perseverance as needed and for the local hospitals and staff, as well….In this we ask and pray, Amen.
A little side note, here…Just so average people know, our local bloodhound, named Lizzie, found an elderly man near my area, an elderly man who had dementia and wandered off. I had met her handler a while back, the deputy, no joke, at Dunkin’ Donuts…the deputies were on a break and I stopped to chat with them…anyway….These dogs are priceless in the services they provide…and they also get stressed from finding many ‘unalive’….
Often, as we realize from 9/11, they are the unsung heroes…invisible angels, masquerading like dogs.
“Dog” spelled backwards….
AMEN! 🙂
As a perk, I met Lizzie, her deputy handler took her out of the vehicle for some socialization, she was six months old then, and very sweet!
AWESOME! (only 6 mos???) Thanks for sharing some extra sunshine on this cloudy day, AG!!! 🙂
In Jesus name, Amen!
Thank you AG.
May God have mercy on the souls of the deceased. May He guide the rescuers to survivors. I pray the survivors can hold on. How awful.
🙏
The survival instinct…
Very strong indeed.
In Jesus name Amen!
Thank you Sundance, I’m grateful to know of the rapid rescue efforts and so many good people who are helping.
Thank God for them.
✝️🫂❤️🙏
“Aerial footage from La Guaira”
I saw about 5 minutes of helicopter footage from early on. Despite the shifting focus of the video, you could see that almost all of the high rise buildings that were still standing were missing ALL of the glass. Some lost portions of the outer wall as well.
Before Hurricane Alicia hit Houston, TX directly with 110+ mph winds in 1983, the city leaders had planned to evacuate a lot of it’s population to Downtown Houston to let them Shelter-N-Place in most of the very tall High Rise buildings there,… If massive flooding was projected. It was not implemented for Alicia,… thank God.
Alicia’s low pressure and high winds popped most of the glass siding window panes out of the High Rise buildings and the Downtown Houston streets were full of broken glass. Yep, thereafter, that idea was canned promptly.
68,900 missing! What agony the loved ones of all those affected must be going through. So very, very sad.
Would it be foolish to hope that most of the missing can be found alive? 🙁
In 2015 the Chinese International Trust and Investment Company (CITIC) landed a contract to build affordable housing and ‘integrated residential zones’ in the northern state of Aragua and Caracas. Given the Chinese projects were completed quickly and their reputation for tofu buildings (a Chinese term), God help anyone who was in those death traps during the earthquakes.
OK, now the “conspiracy theorist” in me has to wonder if this dot is connected:
SMALL PLANE CRASHES INTO CHINA’S TALLEST BUILDING
A serious airspace breach occurred in Beijing’s Central Business District earlier Friday, when a Sunward SA60L Aurora light aircraft crashed into the 1,700-foot-tall CITIC Tower.

Speculation on my part but I think this was a suicide flight. The pilot was the only one on board the ultralight aircraft and he flew straight into the building.
I doubt if we will get any reports from Chinese media on the reason why. Also, people taking video or pictures were told to delete them.
Great catch, CP. The interwebs are LEGION with depictions of substandard construction in China’s metropolitan areas. Let’s pray that this virus was not manifest in Venezula… 🙁
The description goes back around three decades. Corruption in the building industry is the main cause. Using less rebar or none at all and skimping on cement for making concrete.
There is also a hidden factor. Previous earthquakes may have caused structural damage but these damages were quickly patched over and painted. No one remembers until the next quake.
Steel framed buildings do hold up better and that’s the modern method now.
WOW, JC. I have been observing the PRC’s build out of their urban centers for years to attempt to gauge their effectiveness and competitiveness. They have a bunch of ghost cities in the Middle Kingdom.
It doesn’t surprise me that no applicable codes were met in Vz. The Japanese were at the forefront of earthquake mitigation construction practices back in the day.
The PRC came in like they always do, provided substandard infrastructure development in exchange for natural resource access, and robbed the Venezuelan peoples blind (after the Regime took its cut). Chile and others face the same conundrum. Panama is at a crossroads with the Wampoa fallout, though, thankfully the Canal is American-built.
All of Latin America is watching this very sad episode and calculating their exposures for doing business with the PRC…. 🙂
The Company constructing and Year Built each collapsed building needs to be enumerated. Constant, you are on to something. If the Tofu buildings are the majority of the collapsed, CCP needs to be held accountable and the failure published.
The only way that blame can be assigned is if obvious defects are present such as the lack of steel rebar.
An earthquake of 7 magnitude or higher will cause damage to any building depending on depth and distance from the epicenter. The first 7.2 quake followed by the 7.5 quake is a rare occurrence.
God forbid that if the same scenario happened in the US close to a major city the damage would be extensive.
Temu buildings? Buy cheap, get cheap.
Per Google: It took 32 days of searching to recover and identify all 98 victims from the collapse of the Champlain Towers South condominium in Surfside, Florida.
And that was just one building in a Major American city.
I can’t imagine the scale of this disaster.
I pray for all concerned.
Yes and consider that emergency responders had quick access to this calamity.
Earthquakes like this one destroy the access. The infrastructure is also wrecked. Communication, water, sewer, power all cut.
Where’s the EU?????
Wrong hemisphere!
You COULD ASK “Where is the UN?” 🙂
Do you mean Where is Hamas Light?
where are the muslim countries? now you know the answer to your question.
In islam, if you are not muslim, you are an infidel, and unworthy of help.
There are NEVER any muslim countries helping any country not muslim, and never have been. And neither sect, shia or sunni, will help the other, because they each consider the other to be infidels.
Says a lot, doesn’t it?
Where is Israel? Are they sending any help?
https://www.jpost.com/international/article-900484
Israel has always been responsive to needs such as this.
They will be there~
They happen to be fighting an existential war.
Of choice.
Germany, Switzerland, France and others are readying planes and supplies.
The problem is that not everyone can just rush down there. The airports are damaged. One runway has been repaired from what I’ve read. The effort has to be coordinated.
All rescue teams are also on their own. They have to bring their own supplies for themselves. They don’t want to hinder those affected.
Well stated, JC. you are most correct, SIR. The BIGGEST challenge of responders is to NEVER suck out the energies of the critical efforts pushing forward into the impacted areas. They have to operate in coordinated, self-sustaining independence and ADD VALE to the rescue and relief missions at hand. Again, pray, Pray, PRAY for everyone in the AO.
This is a horrific nightmare for the peoples of Venezuela!!! 🙁
Well thank you. I have been on that side of the disaster before. Being able to prepare and stock up not only helped us get by but we were able to help others as well.
I have been on both sides, brother. As we learned in the Boy Scouts, we must BE PREPARED if we expect to succeed and persevere. and we can’t help others if we can’t help ourselves. Sir Baden Powell (a Brit) set forth that credo into the Americas, and it is our instinctive American Rugged Individual Ethos that allows us to rise to the occasion and offer service to others in need.
Our gracious host, Sundance gave witness of this American RIGHT STUFF when Florida’s west coast encountered an unusual hurricane a few years back… 🙂
Correct.
The day I saw a Burke destroyer and a small carrier cruise by I felt that sense of pride. They were looking for bodies in the ocean. Over 7000 died and a number of those were never found.
In this era, I can no longer define a “reasonable” limit to what technological capabilities have been developed, nor to what non-governmental powers / global financial cartels are willing to do to human populations.
Is it possible that these earthquakes were induced or generated intentionally to hinder Venezuela’s return to the world of sovereign nations?
If so, could they also have been triggered as punishment and a warning to other proxy countries (like Cuba) who are giving thought to, um… making their country great again?
If anyone would like to give to the Venezuela earth quake efforts, International Disaster Emergency Services (IDES) is a reliable and well-regarded Christian relief organization for tithing/missionary support. They have earned a 4/4 Star rating (top rating) with a very high score (around 98% in recent evaluations). This covers accountability, finance, and transparency. They’re an ECFA member, (Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability) which is a strong standard for Christian ministries, requiring adherence to strict financial, governance, and ethical practices. They’ve been long-established (since 1973), based in Noblesville, IN. No major scandals, complaints, or red flags turned up in reviews or news searches. They are recognized in Christian relief circles and MinistryWatch. They emphasize working through local trusted partners and volunteers, which helps keep overhead lower where they don’t have to own or rent planes to get to the disaster.
On their home page, just wait for the “NEWEST UPDATES” to flash up, and when it gets to “Venezuela,” just click on “Donate.” Home | IDES That’ll take you to the givebutter.com site. Every dime you give to IDES givebutter.com sends them the full amount and doesn’t keep any percentage of the money for themselves!!
They say at the end of your donation session you can click the button to pay for givebutter’s 2.9% processing fee, otherwise givebutter will pay the processing fee themselves but I never saw a button to click.
May God bless and comfort the survivors of this tragic disaster.
HAARP. Wait, did I say that??
When there are quakes on the sun (CME’s) that directly correlate to quakes on the earth and if you read the Bible, it tells all about it in prophecy. There are people studying these effects.
Maybe poorly constructed buildings are a factor, just like during past earthquakes in Turkey, where prefab and poorly constructed buildings collapsed.
300 towers collapsed during this Earthquake.
3 Big Earthquakes, Solar Storm,
the connection between solar storms triggering earthquakes
High rise deathtraps. The Bible says not to build your houses one on top of the other.
My prayers to all affected! May God help them…
Safety, hope and blessings to the canine search and rescue teams and all the ordinary citizens stepping up.
Curious about how much of the relief effort is American vs European. Some places that are neither are good about this sort of thing, Japan for example. The Japanese have the capacity and will to help but are far away. I would expect the Mexicans to help. The Mexican Navy is one of the few functional elements of that government and they did help with Katrina relief. The US has more capacity to help than everyone put together and the will to deploy it and it is not all the government. I noted the post by Samaritans Purse.
Samaritan’s Purse did a pretty good job in North Carolina.
IDES, which Sophie mentioned above, looks to also be a good donation site.
Prayers are certsinly needed. Donations are needed as well, to help with the resources, manpower, equipment, food, water and medical supplies that are critical for Venezuelans in need.
Thank you to the posters who stay out of politics in this tragic Venezuelan earthquake blog. It is about a disaster and it needs a positive response, as much as we can all muster. A personal, big, thank you to those who have offered prayers. I pray with you.
That hug at the end…
In fault zones, appropriate earthquake building designs and codes are far more important then Govt Socialism policies that ignore them.
Prayers now for the deceased souls, the injured and their families as they remove the rubble and rebuild their lives and cities..
