The Church celebrates the Optional Memorial of Pope St. John I (d. 526), who was elected Pope in 523. The Arian King Theodoric sent him as his ambassador to Emperor Justin in Constantinople. On John I’s return, he was captured by the king, who was displeased at the outcome of the embassy and cast him into prison at Ravenna where he died a few days later. I have been cleaning out my abode…in small bits and pieces…I checked out a YT video on ‘decluttering’ and as I have viewed a few, am now bombarded with them…some as long as 35 minutes…ah money talks for the video maker…that said…
The common denominator in the ‘decluttering’ crowd…is a push to “minimalism”, using old people as their audience or reference point.
The other thing I note, in most of the videos, is the very common and boring looks of the backgrounds…neutral colors, neutral accents, neutral furniture styles (does that translate to “less expensive”?…hyping it as the way to go…telling all that you may not need the things you have kept, and in some or many cases, true…
But again, as I have long held…and the new generations buy into it…
Everything looks the ‘same’….like a boring hotel room.
The push to lose one’s identity…and the outcomes, if successful…we would all be ‘the same’….
Is that socialism? Or just social engineering?
An added thought…the overabundance of clothing, in black…especially in what’s on the racks in stores…everyone looks the same….?
Asking for old people….

I am an ‘old people’ offering some thoughts.
We used to live in big, beautiful houses. That means the rooms and walls were filled with treasures. And we moved it all several times until Doc retired.
Then, for about 17 years Doc and I lived FullTime in a 30 ft motor home – with dinghy in tow. As you might imagine, space is at a premium. Our general rule: if you have not used it for a year, consider getting rid of it.
The ‘sassier’ thought is … you don’t own ‘stuff’, it owns you.
Now that I am alone with attendant ‘age related’ problems I admit that having minimal ‘stuff’ around me offers a sense of freedom.
HowSomEver, I acknowledge that most folks are comforted when they are surrounded by their lifelong treasures – most of which are accompanied by memories.
I guess the hard part is deciding which things merely take up space and which ones are dear to you. There is (perhaps) another consideration: if you leave your ‘stuff’ behind, will someone value it as you do? Mayhaps family and friends should be part of the decision-making?

Aggie, Since 2020, I’ve been purging my home, too.
And, this year, am now making some serious progress.
I know social media trend has been all about minimalism, but, I don’t subscribe to that.
I do loathe clutter, tho – so simplicity works for me.
My guideline for what to keep:
is it useful? does it bring beauty? does it make me/us happy?
Period.
Still have more organizing to do before I’m satisfied.
Several reasons spur me on —
As an only child, I was responsible for my deceased mother’s belongings.
It was so hard … I found canned foods in pantry 15 years old, cash stuffed in kitchen drawers, all of her deceased mother’s clothes in the closet, and on and on.
I knew then, through a very long cleaning process, that I wouldn’t want my children going through such.
And, when my husband’s mother died, he and his brother went through a similar situation.
I’ll never forget the day he came home with 29 boxes of “stuff” from her house, and we had nowhere to put it!
That didn’t include furniture … So stressful.
Several years ago, a woman revealed to me that when her mother died, she left everything in her estate in impeccable order for her and siblings.
She said she’ll always be grateful for how her mother made it easier for them.
That made quite an impression on me.
I just want to leave here with all my stuff in order.
Hopefully, that will help my family, rather than burden them.
Ps: One thing that will probably not be left in good order?

COMMENTARY FOR ROMANS 10:9
The apostle’s earnest desire for the salvation of the Jews. (1-4) The difference between the righteousness of the law, and the righteousness of faith. (5-11) The Gentiles stand on a level with the Jews, in justification and salvation. (12-17) The Jews might know this from Old Testament prophecies. (18-21)
5-11 The self-condemned sinner need not perplex himself how this righteousness may be found. When we speak of looking upon Christ, and receiving, and feeding upon him, it is not Christ in heaven, nor Christ in the deep, that we mean; but Christ in the promise, Christ offered in the word. Justification by faith in Christ is a plain doctrine. It is brought before the mind and heart of every one, thus leaving him without excuse for unbelief. If a man confessed faith in Jesus, as the Lord and Saviour of lost sinners, and really believed in his heart that God had raised him from the dead, thus showing that he had accepted the atonement, he should be saved by the righteousness of Christ, imputed to him through faith. But no faith is justifying which is not powerful in sanctifying the heart, and regulating all its affections by the love of Christ. We must devote and give up to God our souls and our bodies: our souls in believing with the heart, and our bodies in confessing with the mouth. How to Trust God Through Every Storm | Verse of the Day – May 18, 2026 (Morning Prayer)

“We must devote and give up to God our souls and our bodies: our souls in believing with the heart, and our bodies in confessing with the mouth.” – I would also add “Mind” to complete.
Another way to understand is to think of 3 “parts” (Body Mind Soul) each with their own “will”. The body (animal “soul”) seeks the pleasures and necessity of physicality. The mind perceives the how. The Soul seeks for and recognises Godliness in both and above.
Regrettably due to the first sin (of the flesh) the mind is almost always defaulting to “partnering” with the “animal soul” (the body) to give it what it wants – minimizing the voice of the soul.
Now when the soul of a person is “fed/stimulated/awakens” it develops over time the power to “control” the mind, such that it is no longer a “free agent”, but is subservient to the will of the soul – The hierarchy now being Soul Mind Body, and when these 3 are in unity we become who we were created to be.
Our soul KNOWS, our heart and mind believes, and our mouths confess.
Oh, and that life story (who we werearebecome) is seldom told/written by ourselves, but by the “accuser” – in the guise of what other people consider us to be – and lets be honest, how many “happy faces” do we see around us every day? The true self (truth) is known only to God and ourselves (partly) – to be revealed to and by each of us on Judgement Day. Hopefully the 2 versions converge, otherwise we’ll witness a lot of red faces.
WE ARE FIGHTING A SPIRITUAL WAR OF GOOD VERSUS EVIL
PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD
Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. All other ground is sinking sand, I pray that I will not slip or fall, but that my feet would be firmly fitted on your lordship, my Lord Jesus. I choose to stand on you, so that the peace of God, which transcends all understanding will guard my heart and mind in Christ Jesus, the eternal Rock of Ages. I receive your holy peace now my Lord, from the sole of my feet to the crown of my head, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray the Shield of Faith into my hand now. As I take up the shield of faith, I ask that you might extinguish every dart and arrow that is launched from the enemy to take me down spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally, and every attempt of the enemy to destroy my joy. I ask that my faith in you would make it flame out. Extinguish every flaming arrow that would come against me, my life, my family, my home, or my ministry. May my faith always be out in front of me like a shield. Give me the courage to “faith my fears” by choosing to walk by faith and not by sight, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Helmet of Salvation, that you might protect my mind from the thoughts that can lead me astray. I choose to take every thought captive, and arrest all intentioned ideas and motives that would harm others, or distract me from your holy will for me. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.
Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.
Thank you my Lord, for the spiritual weapons of armor and prayer that you have given me. It is written no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and you will refute every tongue that accuses me.

Are you saved by the Blood of the Lamb?
Are you washed clean or will you God damn?
Have you repented down on your knees?
Have you accepted Jesus as God decrees?
Were you made in His image from the start?
Separated through sin, did you depart?
Did you fall short of the Glory of God?
Trapped in sin throughout your life have you trod?
Was it the lure of pleasure that did you in?
Was it the lack of conscience deep within?
Did you seek attention and praise from man?
Was that when you fell and it all began?
Were you puffed up in pride with your gift?
Did attractiveness, talent give you a lift?
Was it approval from man that you sought?
Or were you meek and humble as you ought?
Did you trod on your neighbor; feed your greed?
Did you compete ruthlessly; feed your need?
Up front and center; was that your desire?
From attention and praise did you ever tire?
Selfishness rears in unlikely places;
It shows in actions; mostly in faces;
Its ugliness, strain affects not just one;
All who love Jesus; have Him in common!
The root of all evil is money, some say;
But selfishness, too, has a part to play;
For when we are selfish, we create strife;
We ignore the Truth, the Way, and the Life!
Jesus said: Deny self and follow Me;
How can we do that if selfish we be?
By the Blood of the Lamb, we are saved;
But we cannot ignore the heart depraved!
For, from the heart, comes what we admire;
If worldly pursuits alone we desire;
If putting another down raises us up;
From the cup of salvation we’ll not sup!
Repent and be saved from worldly aims;
Accept Jesus as Lord; the prayer claims;
Renounce all your sins in His holy name;
Renounce the need for attention and fame!
By the blood He selflessly shed on the tree;
Victory over death made mankind free;
For the wages of sin is death for all;
Failure to repent will be mankind’s fall!
Seek first the kingdom and earnestly pray;
The Blood of the Lamb will wash sins away;
Accept Jesus as the Lord of your life;
Defeat selfishness and eliminate strife!

Memorial Day is coming up. And for me that means watching what I believe are the two greatest war movies ever made.
The 10 episode made for TV Band of Brothers has no equal. The story is compelling and the sound track exquisite even though not true to history in the case of three of the characters. Still the work is the at Pinnacle of war movies.

Prior to the Band of Brothers I thought that the made for TV movie Gettysburg was the best and we have that also and will watch it.
In both cases the follow up productions did not come close to capturing the lightning in the bottle the first ones did.

World War II Veteran Wayne E. Newton, of Terre Haute, Indiana, was laid to rest on May 16, 2026 after almost 85 years after his death.
Newton enlisted in the Navy in 1938, at age 19. Seaman 1st Class Wayne Newton was stationed all across the world for his first three years of service, but in 1941, he was assigned to be with the large naval fleet at Pearl Harbor, in Hawaii.
Newton was killed in action aboard the USS California at the age of 22, but his body was never identified.
He was among 104 crew members who died on the ship. After the attack, the remains were sent to what’s called the ‘punch bowl’, where 1,516 unidentified remains were buried.
Years later, the Navy started identifying remains through DNA testing. More than eight decades after the attack at Pearl Harbor, Newton’s remains were identified by U.S. Navy Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency.
