LOL, I used to buy those “beef” pepperoni as they are labeled now by the provider, problem is they are Cayenne Pepper spiced to go along with the beef/pork mix.
They changed the name from “Bold” pepperoni to I guess highlight the beef part instead. SMH
I used them exclusively for making my own personal pizza’s, most customers never asked for, a few percent inquired as to what “Bold pepperoni” was few took the plunge when I told them that it meant Spicy pepperoni.

When I was a kid our solar system defined by the planets with Pluto being considered the outer extent. Even back then Oort’s theory about a massive cloud of icy and rocky debris orbiting our sun far out beyond Pluto was well known but it was considered to be orbiting our solar system and not a part of it.
Now it is believed there is an inner Oort cloud that more or less spirals along the ecliptic and an outer Oort cloud that is a sphere still orbiting the sun much further out that is light years across. And both are considered part of our solar system. And the extent of the solar system is defined in more than one way. Solar scientists define it as the furthest extent of the Sun’s heliosphere which where the sun’s magnetic field weakens to the point where it is less dominant than the influence of cosmic rays from the galaxy and from outside our galaxy.
Remember this fact when people tell you “the science is settled”.
Math is more than just the primary tools of science and engineering, it is the major component in the language of those disciplines. Without math they do not exist as we know them or at least could not be articulated in anything but a very rudimentary form.
But I run into people all the time on the internet that seem to think that science has it all figured out and has the correct answers to almost everything. The fact is there is very little “settled science”.
For example:
I once asked a much respected researcher of solar activity and solar cycles exactly what the scientific parameters that define a Grand Solar Maximum are?
His answer was : “You’ll know it when you’re in one.”
IOW there are no agreed to specific metrics that define when a Grand Solar Maximum begins or ends.
We know so little.
Just to give you an idea of the relative distances involved. One of the voyager satellites is passing out of the suns heliosphere now but it will be centuries before it reaches the inner Oort Cloud.

Side note: Doxies are notoriously hard to house train.
If you live in the North fall pups are hard to train. By the time you get your boots and coat on they have went at the door. Then in the spring they look for any patch of snow to use for their bathroom as that is what they used all winter.
I am old enough this one could outlast me, but he will still have to be my last dog if I outlast him. I will be to old to deal with a puppy.

My sister has a Dachshund, beagle mix. Saw photos of her. She adopted her from a shelter. She sent me photos and she is the cutest little girl. Has the markings of a beagle.

Wow! Is that an English Cream?
Second smile this morning. Reminds me of the stray that showed up and had 8 puppies. I lay on the ground and all 8 looked at me like this. Fond memories. There was only one puppy that looked like her. The rest were shorthaired, long haired big and medium frames and every type of coat. Definitely had to be several sires involved in this litter. I was able to find homes for every one of them. What fun they were to raise.

My son grilled hamburgers one time and as he was placing them on buns, one slipped and he caught it. My Catahoula, Buddy was right there watching. When my son caught it, the look on Buddy’s face was, “Oh I almost had me a hamburger, Darn it!” That dog made me laugh every day. I sure miss him.

That wasn’t me until just recently! I was 215 lb before my bladder surgery. Now I’m 187 and my arms and legs are sticks compared to what they were pre-surgery.
There isn’t a one of us of a certain age, rah, that life doesn’t do a number on. I can attest to it. Remembering what I looked…and felt (!!!)….like years ago, it’s a shock when I catch a glimpse in a mirror. Which is why I try to avoid doing so. Inside, In my head, I haven’t aged one little bit 😉💕
The funny thing is that it’s my thighs that have lost proportionally more muscle mass than my calves.
No matter, my friend…you’re still here. And that’s all that matters 👍🏻😘
I just got back from visiting my sister at the AMG unit of Indiana University Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie. She still has that suction dressing on the huge open wound of her belly.
She wanted me to see that she had gotten strong enough to pull herself up using the bed rail to get in a sitting position with her legs hanging over the side of the bed! She’s proud of that!
My Sis is tough a nails!
On Tuesday next week she transfers to IU Memorial North to a unit that specializes in rehab. Three hours of physical therapy a day! She’s scared.
I told her that all of this is for you to be able to get back to the home you Love. Our Mom & Dad’s former home that I sold my half to her for $30,000 under the appraised value so that she could afford it. A home that she has made her own with a lot of work. A home that she Loves.
I told her that she needs to go into this physical therapy regimen with the same attitude I had when I went through the SF qualification course. Do or Die! You either do it or your going to die because your not going to live very long if you go to some nursing facility and can’t go home. So give it all you think you’ve got and then give more, because you can always do more than you think you can if you make up your mind to do so. And when you do that, it builds upon itself!
Yes Betsy, I also try to avoid mirrors. In my head I feel younger as well. Appearance sometimes shocks me into the reality of aging!
But the advantage is (I’ve decided) that we can move undetected anywhere because the older we get the less visible we become. If that makes sense…

Betsy, it makes perfect sense. We may get a side glance but that is about all, especially from the young ones. I think to myself, you shall get there one day yourself, so enjoy youth while you can!
The one thing that impresses me about my church is the youth have a great respect for the elders and go out of their way to help us all the time. It is so gratifying to see this, especially the preteens and teens.

Yesterday I was loading groceries in my car when a young man from out of nowhere asked if he could take my cart for me. Thoughtful. I said to Chris he no doubt saw this short older woman and stepped up. And suddenly I saw myself through his eyes and realized how short the journey has been from my earlier years. Sobering.

Many decades ago I would always offer to make the dump run after my other half and I had done yard work. I would tell him he couldn’t go, just me. One day I guess he followed me and watched from afar what I would do.
I would put on my short shorts and a skimpy top. I would drive into the dump and play dumb. First act as though I had such a hard time trying to manuver the trailer and get it to back up right. Then all the guys would rush over and offer to help me.
I would get out of the car and they would back it in, empty the trailer and sweep it out for me. Then I drove home. No fuss, no muss.
My other half wasn’t too happy about my ‘technique’ but did agree with it was quick and effective.

Truli, I once had a models figure, 5’8″ and weighed in between 120 to 130 lbs. Had a tiny waist too. Running the horse ranch and riding daily herding cattle, kept me toned and slim, but 6 years ago it all went south quickly when I moved to my smaller place! Especially my chest, they are having a race to see which one reaches my waist first! LOL

Nothing much hits the floor. Funny thing is, I have never had a dog that watches me prepare food for myself and he literally drools a puddle. Also he will watch every bite I take, as well as lick his lips, and also leaves a drool puddle.
I can’t help but wonder if it is because he was a stray and ate whatever he could find while loose. I do not know how long he was a stray.
Maybe, too, he knows he will be properly fed all the time here and anticipates by drooling. I just smile, tell him he is a good boy and wipe it up.

My girlfriend has a little Schnauzer named Kazan. He was her husbands service dog as he was very hard of hearing. He will carry on and alert when my friend and her sister’s blood pressure starts getting high. I watched him for a couple of days for her. What a kick he was. He told Beau, in no uncertain terms, he was the boss while he was here. Beau capitulated, but he was not happy about it. He never went after the dog, although he was three times bigger than Kazan. It was an interesting couple of days to say the least. This was before Cleo and the kittens showed up.
He still wants to get on my lap immediately when I go to her house and he would stay there as long as I let him.
When I was in rehab for my hip, she brought him to me and he immediately jumped up on me and would not get down until my girlfriend was ready to go. The nurses and physical therapists just loved him and he loved all the attention. It was one of the bright spots in my rehab stint!
Attitude is what it sounds like Kazan had, Pat. And savoir faire. They are such solid dogs. To have a dog immediately seek one’s company is truly one of the greatest feelings ever. And an honour. Which I know you appreciated.
I saw a short video last night of a dog pawing at his mistress who had just finished chemo for breast cancer…successfully. But he would not leave her alone. So out an abundance of precaution she returned to her doctor, explained, was checked, and they found a small mass almost imperceptible. It was quickly removed, and the cancer was no more.
Truly these dogs are imbued with a sense we can’t explain. Gifts from a loving Father. That’s what they are. And aren’t we grateful? Yes, oh YES! We are 🙏🏻💕

I love old dogs and wish I had more room and financial stability so I could take one in. I was noticing that Beau, although only six, is getting gray around the muzzle already. I guess because of his shaky start in life, it has aged him quicker.

Trying to get my container gardens cleaned up and replanted for the season. I normally have them done by now, but I am later this year than I would like to be.

And yes, timing is everything with gardens of any sort. The ideal window doesn’t stay open for as long as we may like. I hope the prognostication for rain in our area next week (chances up for 6 days) is the same for you. Nothing helps a garden like heaven born waters. One of the things I miss about Wales. We were never short, which is why our garden was always so green and lush. Half of me missesit, the other half is relieved we no longer live there given the way things are now.

Afternoon dear Bet. Sorry I missed your post this morning. I went to bed shortly after posting last night. This is an especially enjoyable ‘Cursday’ . . . I finally completed the “small” electrical wiring chore that had been troubling me for for weeks.
It required drilling a masonry hole with my hammer drill, then cementing an insulted wall attachment in place. This required getting on the roof— very carefully I might add—and carefully reattaching the 220 cable that had pulled loose from the house. Happily the electrical connection was undisturbed despite the loose wall fasting. Once repaired, now all is well.
Once I got everything sorted the job took about a half hour to complete. Because I’d gone to bed a bit early I felt a very familiar thump on the bed . . . as Little ‘Tink came to join me. Usually this no longer happens if I stay up through the earliest morning hours. It is so fascinating to observe how our animal companions are so attuned to the habits of “their” people. Her gentle, ever loving evening purr was a much appreciated “good for you boss” sign. Good kitty. 🙂

Yes! Thanks to the rather heavy rainfall, my yard no longer resembles desert prairie. My close neighbors have have new plats of fresh grass planted. My yard/fence guy had some plats left over ao he filled in a bare spot near my mailbox. I think that was a hint, although I’m going to have him rebuild my back fence before I think about new grass. Sure looks good, though . . . 🙂

(1844-1919)
German-American entrepreneur who founded prepared-foods company (H.J. Heinz Company-57 varieties), dies at 74
Biography: Henry John Heinz was an American businessman and entrepreneur. He founded the H.J. Heinz Company and built it into the major food processing and packaging company that still bears his name today.
Heinz started packing foodstuffs in 1869 in Sharpsburg, Pennsylvania with Heinz Noble & Company, which went bankrupt in 1875. He then founded F & J Heinz in 1876 with his brother and cousin, later buying them out in 1888 to form the H.J. Heinz Company. The company introduced the iconic “57 Varieties” slogan in 1896 and was incorporated in 1905 with Heinz serving as president until his death in 1919.
Heinz successfully lobbied for passage of the landmark Pure Food and Drug Act in 1906. He also worked with the Food Administration during World War I and served on boards of various financial institutions and committees. By the time of his death, the H.J. Heinz Company had grown to over 20 plants, seed farms, and factories.
In his personal life, Heinz married Sarah Sloan Young in 1869 and they had five children, though one died as an infant. While Heinz was raised Lutheran, his children were raised Presbyterian like their mother, and Heinz himself was Methodist and Presbyterian later in life. His travels often included visits to graves and sites of notable religious leaders.
Heinz died of pneumonia in 1919 and was buried in the family mausoleum in Pittsburgh. His legacy includes a bronze statue erected at the Heinz Company building in 1924, and his descendants include grandson H.J. Heinz II and great-grandson Senator H. John Heinz III.

One alternative is to locate a retired nurse or other qualified caregiver that takes in a few patients to care for in their own place of residence. You’re still going to need somewhere north of 80k for one year of care if you can find such a situation.
My own mother who passed last December was in a nurse’s private home who used to care for as many as 5 elderly at a time for a year. I believe we as family paid out around 86K for the year. Prior to mother declining to the point she needed full time care family was in house with her 24/7. (that can be a very challenging situation if you are not geared towards care giving)
We had a couple of months that mom was in a combo rehab/nursing home and let me tell you they’re not usually high quality care especially if family are not constantly checking up on the care.
Monti, I did some of this work before retiring, and a former coworker took a job in a home as you describe. She told me the idea was well-meant but that it simply didn’t work out as hoped, too much work for too few staff.
I also worked for a couple of years for a family of immigrants from China who kept their mom in their living room-turned-bedroom after the very old lady had had a stroke, and needed someone nearby all the time. I loved how her family took care of her.
Aggie, near Knoxville TN a family friend lived out her days for about $9000/month. It’s a lot, but she had some dementia and would do risky things if not watched.
In New York State, Spring Valley there is an establishment called “The Fellowship Community” where my mom visited a couple of times (she ended up living in her own hime until she passed).
I visited also and liked some of their special features: an attached farm and kitchen gardens; volunteers from around the world, especially Germany; “coworkers” who lived onsite, and a nursery/kindergarten for coworkers with small children

I find it odd that communist nations rely on pork for meat. North Korea has even been known for “long pig. Now, we fight alpha gal, a condition that targets bovine meat and any part of it. Pork from the grocers is not for me, even the bacon has water added to it and sticks to the pan. (Notice even a whole ham has water added on the label……a way the meat packer tips the scales in their favor.)
Locally raised pork/beef/chicken is quality and the difference is readily apparent…….obtain it if you can.
Best off the shelf brand name bacon that I can find is Kunzler out of PA Amish country. Found from NY to Florida its an East Coast item.
Local is better every time and uncured is better and avoids the Nitrates and Nitrites in “cured” bacon.

Don’t get me started on the various ways they add water and call it somethings else like “marinade”, yea of salt and WATER.
The big one that really chapped my a$$ was the 40 lb of disjointed wings…. 35# of wings with 5# of water added as if they are not waterlogged already. Just means the price goes up as I was lucky to get 20# of cooked product.
Yes I did weigh things alot just to check on the level of what I would call fraud to adjust my pricing.
Flour was a fraud job too, 50# bags that weigh 48#, I complained about those as I repackaged to 10# batch food boxes and of course come up short. Only time they ever had close to 50# was when they had inspection stickers on them. Depending on the time of the year on pricing that was .75 to 1.25/lb of fraud. (high gluten flour mind you)
While I suppose that is a 4% tolerance, it is never more than 49#, if it was real tolerance it would occasionally be more than 50#.
That adds up when your average usage is 300# a month.
Over the years the % of water has went up, ham was always 10 – 15%, I noticed one brand that was available was up to 30% “solution”. SMH
I always wanted to do then non-nitrate bacon & pepperoni but that requires an added GVT license to do so & the added inspections required, was told by a head chef of a place that did that sort of thing for various wild game Jerky that whomever was currently doing the inspections for that was “on the warpath” & not worth the time/expense.
Hormel @ one time produced a non-nitrate pepperoni, as soon as I updated the menu to reflect that… they stopped producing it. <shrug>
Grass Beef is available locally, never investigated pricing as have insufficient space to store a side of beef, not a huge seller on pizza, only the Texans for the beef & mushroom combos that are popular with them, pepperoni by far is the #1 topping at 25# every 6 weeks.
There is rampant fraud in the food biz, the USA needs the kinda food police that the UK/EU has, YT has many videos of the food police raids.

Since you’re in Colorado they used to have Beau Jo’s (sp?) pizza that started in Idaho Springs for the returning ski traffic and before we left the state there was at least one other restaurant in Colorado Springs. They had heavenly crust with a huge outside roll on the edge and had honey on each table to put on the crust edges……awesome! Several other items made them special like adding fresh tomato slices on top after baking,

PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD
Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. When I get out to do errands I notice how traffic has diminished, probably because of doubled fuel prices.
Don’t usually post at the same time as our Treeper from Israel, David, but I do watch to read his news from there. Sometime last week David commented that fuel prices in Israel are up somewhat, but not doubled, like here. My immediate thought was, yes, Israel has a fairly efficient public transit system. When I visited there, I could get around the Tel Aviv suburbs using a bus pass/card, and also walked about five miles a day, very good for physical condition. It’s good to have a well-functioning public transit system as part of civil defense when fuel is scarce.
During the Reagan era, a lot of public transit utilities in our United States were shut down, diminished or neglected. Larger cities have big problems of criminals and insane passengers who threaten (or kill, RIP Iryna Zarutska) other riders. I wish more people in leadership backed safe, reliable public transit, bicycle and pedestrian options. Cars are wonderful but should not be the only option for travel

We are looking for options of commercially printed calendars and/or planners with only Christian holidays and only American civil holidays.
There was a brand that was the favorite for home and office, but then it went multi-culti.
Sepp – In Touch Ministries used to put out beautiful calendars with Dr Charles Stanley’s photography. Since his passing, I’m not sure their plan – but might be worth a look there. It might be worth an email to them.
