Tina Peters, Gold Star mom, grandmother, and the former clerk of Mesa County, Colorado, was convicted by a jury of tampering with voting machines in an effort to prove fraud in the 2020 presidential election. In total, she was convicted of seven counts – three of which were felonies. The trial judge sentenced her to nine years.
At sentencing, the judge, who was clearly prejudiced against Peters, scolded her for her beliefs of election fraud:

On appeal, Peters argued that the trial court violated her First Amendment rights by punishing her protected speech regarding allegations of election fraud. The court of appeals agreed in a 3-0 opinion.
Important to the appellate court’s holding was that the First Amendment “generally prohibits punishing someone for their protected speech.” While a Colorado court may consider a variety of factors when sentencing, “the trial court’s comments about Peters’s belief in the existence of 2020 election fraud went beyond relevant considerations for her sentencing.” After all, Peters was not convicted for her beliefs and “the trial court should not have considered those beliefs relevant when imposing sentence.” For those reasons, the court of appeals concluded that the trial court made an obvious and substantial error “by imposing sentence at least partially based on Peters’s protected speech.”
The case has been remanded back to the trial court for resentencing.

I can say for certain that that Judge’s courthouse performance was not the United States of America that Mrs Peter’s son Remington, gave his last full measure for.

Will the same judge be in charge again? If so, I can see him resentencing her to years in jail anyway. He should be removed, like many other leftwing judges in the country using politics to give out justice instead of unbiased decisions based on law.
The entire conviction should have been tossed because of such bias.

Recently I received a letter from a former student, whom I had in my Latin course for three years (6th, 7th, and 8th Grades) at the Catholic school where I taught for the last 15 years of my career. (My previous 35 years had been in high schools, mainly Catholic.)
The goal of my grade-school course was to have the students qualify for Latin III or at least Latin II as Freshmen: the 6th Graders took Latin twice a week, while it was a full-time course for the last two years. Nevertheless, I pushed them so that they would be reading original, unadapted works by Roman authors by the second semester of the 8th Grade (e.g. some of the Letters of Pliny the Younger, the Epigrams of Martial, and excerpts from The Aeneid by Vergil ).
This student is now graduating from * a Top 10 university with a double major in Economics and Latin/Classics. He is thinking of a Juris Doctor degree now: I wish he would consider Teaching, as we greatly need Conservatives on every level of Education.
He sent me the following:

Even private schools, religious and secular, have not been immune to The Arrogant Goofballs of Edutainment. Their malign influences must be exterminated by training and hiring Conservative teachers versed in the remnants of our tattered scholastic traditions, i.e. those things, techniques and subjects, which the Communists have buried must be resurrected and re-established in our schools, if President TRUMP’S imagined Golden Age is to be realized.
* The verb graduate must have the preposition from: to say or write e.g. “I graduated high school” is a bumpkinism and sounds as if one had measured the building and striped it with the number of its feet in height. “I graduated from high school” is correct.

Yes, indeed, at least I have small part. I do know that one of my former students, now c. 60 years of age, became an international lawyer with the ability to argue cases in America and in Germany.
Another became a Professor of German at large southern university.
Another former student rose to the ranks of Captain the U.S. Navy and, after he learned German and European History from me in our Catholic high school, he added Russian, Dutch, and Portuguese. His story is as follows: he struggled greatly for the first two years in my German course, and did not have the “B” average which the school required to go to the Levels III and IV, but I let him into the last two years because of his great enthusiasm and because of the improvement I had seen in his two years.
In the end, he achieved an “A” in my German IV course! When he went off to college via a Navy ROTC scholarship, he told me that the Navy wanted him particularly because he had learned German so well, even with great initial struggles.
I said: “Yes, however, the U.S. Navy has no bases in Germany.” He was positive that he would be stationed in Germany, nevertheless.
Four years later, the Navy said to him: “Congratulations! We will send you off to become bi-lingual in RUSSIAN!”
And so, off he went, and within 18 months, he told me that he could have been parachuted into Moscow and nobody would identify him as anything but a Russian from his speech!
Yes, he translated intercepted Russian military messages for the Navy! 🙂 😉
I should mention that I have experienced every stupid “technological breakthrough” in education, from educational films, a TV in every classroom (really dumb), “SmartBoards” and of course computers and the INTERNET, which quickly became 30 years ago a doorway to massive cheating for the students!
The Internet was the main demon against which I fought in the classroom for those last 30 years.

Some private, religious schools, however, refused to follow the (dumb) trend!

Two days ago, we were winning a war, objectives being checked off all in order. Then the President decided to stop the war. He can do that. And then everything seemed to go sideways. Now it’s a wing and a prayer, because I (we) don’t know what is going on. I might as well try to finish reading Ulysses, until someone has some clarity.
It’s not important that we know what’s going on, only that President Trump knows what’s going on. In fact in order for many of his strategic moves to work, we can’t know, because that means the enemy would know, which would cancel out Trump’s greatest advantage.
The question is do you trust him? I do.
PDJT gives people every chance to show they are serious about negotiating. The ceasefire is about exposing the liars, the leakers, the traitors, the lack of support from supposed allies, and the ideology of a culture that never left the stone ages. I would guess he knew full well what would happen and I don’t think Iranian Muslim fundamentalists will get specific warnings and times of their destruction in the future.
Man, you’d think the President would know by now the necessity of filling you in on what’s going on with negotiations and the war so he could get your valuable perspective.
That would be most satisfactory. But I can bear the burden of not knowing, for hours or even days.
You seem to ignore the possibility that the cease fire could have been intentional. One to regroup and assess, the other to prove they will not keep their word.

although i personally remain skeptical, there was someone here the other day making some really good points that the normal or “traditional” measures of how a midterm will go are all over the map. we are in a lot of uncharted territory with a lot of radical new events, policies, court cases, dangerous precedents, some of it midstream, etc. plus at this point we are probably going to see some insane stuff this summer that further warps the landscape.
this means that a lot of the usual models for running polls will themselves be flawed and funky, would not surprise me to see them days apart reporting very different results. we are all kinda just going with our gut feel about how it will go down.
