Years ago I had 2 guinea pigs – Mick & Bianca (that’s a long time ago!)
They whistle Very Loudly when they want to be fed, so…..if I needed to pass by their enclosure at night, I crawled on hands and knees beneath their view. My idiocy has a long history!
*I originally wrote guinea pugs – which opens up all new hybrid possibilities!
Hahahahaha!!! I used to do that with my older daughter when she was a babe and then as yet not walking, sis. We were in a two bedroom apartment and her crib was in ours. Many times as I was crawling in front of it, shed awaken, stand up, and look around for the noise (and here was I, thinking I was being Seal Team quiet). Whereupon I’d pause and remain in position until she eventually lay back down and had drifted off.
Wow!!! I hadn’t thought of those days in so long, girl….what I wouldn’t give to have them back, even for just a moment.
(Are you sure we aren’t related somehow down the line? 🤔😘)

Unless one needs a breed for what they were actually bred for there is no reason to get a pure bred. Sometimes if you know the mix they work too, but you don’t want a Rottweiler mix to herd you sheep, or a shorthair mix to pull you snowsled.
The biggest thing is dogs should fit your home/property and lifestyle. If you are a couch potato don’t get a high energy dog. Don’t get a Border Collie if you live in.an apartment. Some dogs are good dogs but not around very small children. Know your breed before getting it.

I knew there would be a few tears, Pat. For me, the first was very moving. Ed Dowd, the ex BlackRock VP who is a wonder at analysis of economic conditions, spoke once of his battle with depression. He said that what pulled him out of it was turning his attentions to others who needed support. He was more eloquent than that, but I thought of him when I listened to this man who has found comfort in turning his to dogs which have not had the best lives. It really did touch my heart in a very poignant way.
Afternoon, dear Bet. Was awakened by the sound of a gentle rain falling . . . always a perfect piece of solace for me. Little ‘Tink and I decided to sleep in a bit. She usually prefers to wait until I get up anyway so she had her morning munchies and I my ‘cuppa Buestelo a little later.
Just got back from a chopped BBQ lunch. Pure protein like my usual breakfast tacos. This was my path to loosing 55 lbs and 3 waist sizes about a year ago. Now I’m just maintaining between a 10lb window. Both my GP and my cardiologist are happy this old-living-alone-retired-guy is doing pretty doggone well. Who would have believed that chicken fajita tacos and chopped BBQ would be a path to weight loss . . . but it was and is.
Lazy day today. ‘Tink had her late breakfast with me and is now comfy in a favorite spot, I’m going to spend a little time reading Teddy Roosevelt’s naval history book. Got my taxes to my attorney, saw my retina doc yesterday and I’m not responsible to anyone for the rest of the week. It’s always good to hear from you, dear Bet. Be well, love. 🙂
Such good health news, dear Garrison!! I am so glad!!! And so now I want some chopped BBQ!! There is a place near to us where we used to buy a pound which would see us through 3 and at a pinch 4 meals. A real treat. Then one day Chris went to lick it up and the price had jumped $10 since the time previous. And that was the last. I look forward to a day when it might come back down, because I know through my son that protein is an incredible weight loss food. He, too, dropped beautiful pounds eating nothing but protein. Well done you (jazz hands!!).

How can anyone even say so? After all there are hundreds of millions of Americans.
But my answer is yes! I see it every day that I interact with my friends here.
A soul of freedom and love, of care and greatness. A soul of respect to all well intentioned people. A soul of help and God. So yes, when I interact I see it. It’s not everyone, but enough for me to identify and appreciate.
This is not an update. This is about America.
I usually post about Israel and the Middle East, where I have some advantage and can add value. But today, Trump himself shared a link to this article—and for good reason. This comes from Trump, and I consider it important.
At first, it may seem like it’s about Tucker, and some here have advised me to “get him out of my head.” But if you read it all the way to the end, it’s not really about Tucker.
It is 100% about America, MAGA and the American soul.

Going thru the factchecking part, it is glaringly obvious that Tucker intentionally misrepresents his “facts”.
Then I got distracted looking up the scum that Tucker champions. He was caught planning a coup in 1939, to be timed with Hitler’s invasion of Britain. While publicly saying Britain should accept the peace Hitler spoke about in October 1939. He was finally interred under Churchill, but was allowed to live in a house on prison grounds and was released in 1943, but was kept in house arrest though he was allowed to move to different houses.
But one can see Tucker’s attraction to such an early holocaust denier.
The world would be a much better place if everybody got Tucker out of their heads and relegated him to the obscurity as a hater that his “hero” earned.
Meanwhile, too many haven’t realized yet the evil towards which Tucker is dragging them. Which, unfortunately, has also been an oft recurring theme in the American soul.
It would be better if there were fewer ‘big names’ telling us how to think…
Re Tucker….Fox no longer signs his paycheck…he signs his own…People often forget this big names are also ‘entertainment’…

Update on my sister Lorrie. This is likely to be a very long haul. Her incision line is very long and is open.
Still in ICU but lots of hopeful signs.
They are talking about moving her to the PCU
She is off the ventilator but is still getting Oxygen through a mask
They put a vacuum dressing on her open wound.
She was able to eat a popsicle which was the first thing she has been able to keep down in well about 15 days.
She is cognizant and her awareness is improving. Haley, her daughter, sent a picture of her smiling with two popsicles in front of her.
No signs of organ failure. Kidneys, heart, and liver all functioning normally.
So all indications of recovery are positive at this time.

COMMENTARY FOR 1 PETER 1:8
The same great doctrines, as in St. Paul’s epistles, are here applied to same practical purposes. And this epistle is remarkable for the sweetness, gentleness, and humble love, with which it is written. It gives a short, and yet a very clear summary, both of the consolations and the instructions needful for the encouragement and direction of a Christian in his journey to heaven, raising his thoughts and desires to that happiness, and strengthening him against all opposition in the way, both from corruption within, and temptations and afflictions without.The apostle blesses God for his special benefits through Christ. (1-9) Salvation by Christ foretold in ancient prophecy. (10-12) All are exhorted to holy conversation. (13-16) Such as is suitable to their principles, privileges, and obligations. (17-25)
1-9 This epistle is addressed to believers in general, who are strangers in every city or country where they live, and are scattered through the nations. These are to ascribe their salvation to the electing love of the Father, the redemption of the Son, and the sanctification of the Holy Ghost; and so to give glory to one God in three Persons, into whose name they had been baptized. Hope, in the world’s phrase, refers only to an uncertain good, for all worldly hopes are tottering, built upon sand, and the worldling’s hopes of heaven are blind and groundless conjectures. But the hope of the sons of the living God is a living hope; not only as to its object, but as to its effect also. It enlivens and comforts in all distresses, enables to meet and get over all difficulties. Mercy is the spring of all this; yea, great mercy and manifold mercy. And this well-grounded hope of salvation, is an active and living principle of obedience in the soul of the believer. The matter of a Christian’s joy, is the remembrance of the happiness laid up for him. It is incorruptible, it cannot come to nothing, it is an estate that cannot be spent. Also undefiled; this signifies its purity and perfection. And it fadeth not; is not sometimes more or less pleasant, but ever the same, still like itself. All possessions here are stained with defects and failings; still something is wanting: fair houses have sad cares flying about the gilded and ceiled roofs; soft beds and full tables, are often with sick bodies and uneasy stomachs. All possessions are stained with sin, either in getting or in using them. How ready we are to turn the things we possess into occasions and instruments of sin, and to think there is no liberty or delight in their use, without abusing them! Worldly possessions are uncertain and soon pass away, like the flowers and plants of the field. That must be of the greatest worth, which is laid up in the highest and best place, in heaven. Happy are those whose hearts the Holy Spirit sets on this inheritance. God not only gives his people grace, but preserves them unto glory. Every believer has always something wherein he may greatly rejoice; it should show itself in the countenance and conduct. The Lord does not willingly afflict, yet his wise love often appoints sharp trials, to show his people their hearts, and to do them good at the latter end. Gold does not increase by trial in the fire, it becomes less; but faith is made firm, and multiplied, by troubles and afflictions. Gold must perish at last, and can only purchase perishing things, while the trial of faith will be found to praise, and honour, and glory. Let this reconcile us to present afflictions. Seek then to believe Christ’s excellence in himself, and his love to us; this will kindle such a fire in the heart as will make it rise up in a sacrifice of love to him. And the glory of God and our own happiness are so united, that if we sincerely seek the one now, we shall attain the other when the soul shall no more be subject to evil. The certainty of this hope is as if believers had already received it.

WE ARE FIGHTING A SPIRITUAL WAR OF GOOD VERSUS EVIL
PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD
Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. All other ground is sinking sand, I pray that I will not slip or fall, but that my feet would be firmly fitted on your lordship, my Lord Jesus. I choose to stand on you, so that the peace of God, which transcends all understanding will guard my heart and mind in Christ Jesus, the eternal Rock of Ages. I receive your holy peace now my Lord, from the sole of my feet to the crown of my head, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray the Shield of Faith into my hand now. As I take up the shield of faith, I ask that you might extinguish every dart and arrow that is launched from the enemy to take me down spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally, and every attempt of the enemy to destroy my joy. I ask that my faith in you would make it flame out. Extinguish every flaming arrow that would come against me, my life, my family, my home, or my ministry. May my faith always be out in front of me like a shield. Give me the courage to “faith my fears” by choosing to walk by faith and not by sight, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Helmet of Salvation, that you might protect my mind from the thoughts that can lead me astray. I choose to take every thought captive, and arrest all intentioned ideas and motives that would harm others, or distract me from your holy will for me. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.
Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.
Thank you my Lord, for the spiritual weapons of armor and prayer that you have given me. It is written no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and you will refute every tongue that accuses me.
Thank you Father God, my Lord Jesus and the Holy Spirit, that I am more than a conqueror in my Lord Jesus. I pray all of this in the mighty name of my Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ, Amen.

Sit Rep- At approximately 1000 hrs Texas time I crossed into the United States of America and am now officially home. Mexico is a beautiful country and I will hold many memories good and bad from the last 14 years that I lived there. The last 7 days have been an amazing experience for me, meeting many generous and helpful people. I will now go forth and start my life over…again.

Today after crossing the border I headed to the nearest pawn shop to see if I could sell my last remaining knife so I could buy food and water for myself. It is hot and dry here and I quickly was getting thirsty and since I haven’t eaten well lately my stomach was talking to me. It was about a 7 kilometer walk from the border and the farther I walked the thirstier I got, my lips where chapped and the sun was burning down on me.
Once at the pawnshop and negotiating a deal of $80 dollars for the knife, witch was disappointing, I was told that we couldn’t do business because I had no valid ID. I walked out remembering a fire station that I had past and walked back in that direction. Once there I asked the firemen for some water and told them about my situation, no one wanted the knife.
When I asked if they could help me get in contact with the VA, one of them tried to call and got the robbo run around and quickly gave up. One of the senior men there called the police, not to trespass me but to see if they could help. The first officer arrived and quickly told me that they weren’t a taxi service, I responded that I was waisting there time, I apologized and started to walk away as a second unit pulled up. I walked a little ways away fearing that something bad was going to happen wanting to distance my self from the scene but the sun and heat changed my mind and I turned around approached the second officer (who looked to be the senior of the two) and told him that I wasn’t suicidal or anything but I was near the end of my rope. That I needed some assistance, I would rather go to jail then sleep on the street tonight, at least I would be fed. He said to give him one moment and that he wanted to call his chief for permission to take me to the Salvation Army shelter in town just as a third unit showed up. The third officer, just by the way he jumped out of his car and moved, looked like the type that could be a problem and I was glad that he wasn’t the first one on scene. The second officer returned asked me if I had ID on me, witch I did, it was just expired I informed him and he responded that was fine. The chief approved the ride I was disarmed and loaded into the back of the cruiser.
As we drove across town we made small talk, I learned that his brother and father where both veterans, discussed the VA systems pitfalls and how it was hard to get them to recognize the problems that many deal with. We arrived at the shelter and as he lets me out the back asks me if I would like some Burger King. I was pretty hungry and of course I said yes and that I hadn’t had Burger King in years. We loaded back into the cruiser and rolled down the road a few hundred meters and went inside where he got a soda and said I could have whatever I wanted. I got myself a Whopper combo and thanked him, we shook hands and I asked him to thank his chief for me to witch he replied “There is a reason we met today” and walked out the store back to his cruiser.
Since that moment the rest of my day has been very productive. I was admitted to the shelter, I have been given a bunk in the A/C, I will receive three meals a day, I have already washed all my dirty cloths and taken a gloriously long hot shower. Earlier in the day I went to a Veterans advocates organization and filled out a bunch of paperwork for housing, food stamps and employment assistance. I have an appointment with my case worker on Monday at 9 AM to go over my options and what benefits I may be able to receive not only from the state but also through the VA. I plan on applying for disability for my Tennitus that I have been dealing with since my separation from the army this time with the help of a advocate or a lawyer.
