I didn’t even know she left. It’s one thing to be comfortable and even rich if you worked hard your whole life, invested wisely, (not by insider trading), invented anything of use, were a true entrepreneur and/or started your own company from the ground up. One of the conditions being talked about for the continuation of ICE is removing individual immunity from prosecution for agents.
I say if they want to remove sovereign immunity from liability for ICE agents in the furtherance of their very difficult jobs then they should simultaneously remove sovereign or governmental immunity from all federal employees, themselves included.
Reps and Senators can be sued for harms caused by their decisions, and by their lies.
Judges can be sued for joint liability when violent people they release commit crimes. Real people are affected by all these decisions; they might not be quite so cavalier in their liberality if they had to stand for it.
If they are not willing to subject themselves to liability then keep the immunity for ICE agents who are doing much harder jobs – and that politicians’ histrionic lies have made much harder.

Bannon actually unleashes the “war room posse” to action which involves contacting members of Congress and Senate, reminding them that they were voted into office to put Americans first. He has worked with Charlie Kirk in the past.
Input support from the posse for passing of critical legislation has proven successful. As of now, getting out the vote is top priority.
At the moment the focus of the war room is voter integrity and the upcoming election. It started gaining momentum just a few days ago.

Five years gone from the summer 2020 domestic terrorism assault on the American people and our way of life and not one thing has been done to take apart any of the principles that were involved. That’s not incompetence, it’s intentional. There were no doubt cartels and foreign governments involved but none of it would have happened to the extent it did without cooperation from our own government. That’s why no sunlight will ever be shown on what happened there. Blonde and Patel would have to go after US government personnel and agents and agencies and that’s off-limits. They don’t have the courage or the moral compass to go there.
The 2020 riots and Covid and the 2020 Steal are all connected and not in a loose manner. There was a solid plan on how to ensure Trump did not get back to the WH and it worked (in 2020). The GOP was fully involved in all of it, both at the national level and many state levels.
For those of you that still cling to the notion that the GOP is working hard for you and america, I would ask you to reconsider. They hate Trump more than the democrats do. He has blown-up their money laundering honey-pots and exposed a few of them for who they really are. There is much more work to do here. Open the curtains on all of it. The GOP isn’t gonna touch election reform. They helped create and install our current system and they like it. We are weeks away from the primaries and 8 months from the midterms. They better get crackin’ or Trump will be removed from office 15 months from now and the GOP will help the democrats do that.

Hey Felix, in Beaufort County, South Carolina, there is strict photo I.D.
We had a problem when we applied for absentee ballots during the 2018 election. We had to present our auto licenses and had to sign the form to obtain absentee ballots. We did that but the absentee ballots never arrived. When I phoned to inquire why our ballot had not arrived I was told they had contracted with a contractor who was handling absentee ballots. Who was the contractor, I inquired? The woman hung up on me.
Of course I phoned to speak with the lady in charge of Beaufort County elections. She had no explanation to my queries. However she said I could go to the office and vote which I did. My spouse was hospitalized at the time but he was home to vote on Election Day..
He was initially denied a ballot. Did someone vote his ballot? After a while he was offered a provisional ballot. He said no he had a right to vote his regular ballot. Finally he was allowed to vote but to this day we don’t know if our ballots were counted.
From our experience it seems mail in ballots are the problem.

The Washington Post is apparently dead. Got the funniest post from a reporter in my FB feed this morning. It’s long but so enjoyable to read. Their level of entitlement, and self-importance is something to behold:
The Washington Post is being killed by the techbro billionaire who bought it in 2013 saying he wanted it to be a beacon of truth, factual information, and expert analysis. Today’s shredding of staff and bureaus is indescribably sad. I delivered that paper as a boy, I wrote for that paper as a man, I read it nearly every day for decades… What Bezos has done to the Post is just one of the awful things that are happening in these awful days, but it’s one with profound widespread repercussions, none of them good. This is a really dark day for America.

The scumbags finally struck today, officially, though they’ve been up to their scumbaggery for years. They’ve finally, killed The Washington Post two years after beginning to systematically bleed it of its dignity and its moral authority.
Technically the paper will still exist, but in a ruthlessly skinny form that will turn it into a tragic joke.
There were two proximate causes, in the end:
The first was jaw-dropping incompetence — both professional and financial — by a management team led by British CEO Will Lewis, a Rupert Murdoch protege whose main accomplishment, to date, had been getting implicated in covering up the News of the World phone-hacking scandal in London.
The second reason was the greed of a new owner of incomprehensible wealth who viewed the newspaper not as a national trust — he simply had no background in or love for journalism, no understanding of how it is literally vital to democracy — but as a business challenge, as with any other business. In this case, in the end, when his business model failed, it was a business to be milked and repurposed to fit whatever his transitory needs were, using it to increase his wealth and influence by sucking up to a malevolent power his newspaper was morally obliged to challenge. He betrayed his newspaper, and his country. And you.
Hundreds of excellent journalists lost their jobs today. They found out in this eerie way:
Will Lewis and his deputies stiffly informed the staff of these devastating cuts at 8:30 this morning via Zoom, and told them to await individual yes-no emails in the next 30 minutes. So people sat at home, at their computers, refreshing the screen again and again, to find out if they still had an income while bleating out their anger and terrors on a private newspaper chat group. Two writers reported they got the shaft while breastfeeding their newborns, dripping tears onto their faces. Someone included contacts for suicide prevention.
Even after two years of dreadful retrenchment and major mismanagement — two years where dozens and dozens of the paper’s topmost talent fled for more secure jobs in more welcoming and honorable venues—the newspaper had been able to gamely hold on as a good, credible product, largely through the skills and determination and guts of a slimmer but still talented, overworked staff. This will not be possible anymore.
The savagery? Here:
The sports section is obliterated.
Book reviews are gone, as is Ron Charles, one of the best book reviewers extant. Pop music criticism is dead. Theater reviews are gone.
International news coverage will be drastically diminished. Many foreign bureaus will be closed. All Middle-East experts, and their editors, are gone.
Photography will be slashed. Page designers, slashed.
Local news is, somehow, going to be expanded while firing a whole bunch of local reporters. My translation: You’ll be reading a whole lot of voiceless, soulless, atonal AI crap. It’s cheap labor, no medical benefits needed.
And so forth.
I remember a moment shortly after I joined the paper as an editor in Style in 1990. At the Miami Herald, I’d developed a reputation for being something of a bomb-thrower. So it surprised me when the paper’s executive editor invited me — a newcomer, a smart-ass carpetbagger — to speak at a yearly retreat the editors used to hold. The subject of the speech was, basically, how is the paper doing?
I obliged. I delivered an hour long slide show — quite funny but deeply snarky and cynical and ruthlessly fault-finding. I concluded, in the end, that The Post was as boring as a box of socks.
I sat down to considerably less applause than I had hoped for. And as I squirmed in my chair, marinating in unease, a guy came and set down next to me. “That was great,” he said. “You are very funny. “ He enunciated every word in syrupy slow motion: “That.” “Was.” “Great”. “You” “Are…”.
I am bad with faces. But I recognized the cadences, from TV. This was Bob Woodward.
Bob told me that his was a newspaper that thought deeply about itself, and that yes, they were stuffy and hidebound. But he predicted that I would find, in the end, that they value truth spoken to power, and guts and gumption and creativity. They didn’t always acknowlege it outright — that would be unseemly, Bob said — but they really want bomb-throwers; they accommodate them and give them room to breathe.
That’s the thing about the Post back then, and until the relatively recent past. All of what Bob said proved true. The Washington Post may have been stodgy — that comes with being an important corporate citizen, a paper of record — but it fought against that constantly, which kept it invigorated, intellectually daring, fun. A fine place that good people wanted to work for, and feel nurtured. The Post was a magnificent variegated voice for its readers to read and love.
God, it was a great newspaper.

I grew up around DC. I never thought the Post was particularly fair and balanced. I guess it only got worse over time, the bias. They did it to themselves. I feel no remorse.

As for a “talking filibuster”, we are talking about conducting a real filibuster, of the type most people think about when they hear the word. The kind of traditional filibuster that hasn’t really been done in decades but which is still in the Senate rule book. That is not the “zombie filibuster” that was first implemented only in the late 1970’s and that is really nothing more a super-majority requirement for almost all legislation.
He knows the Democrats are going to get rid of the zombie filibuster (and maybe the old-fashioned talking version as well) the moment they get back in the majority, and then all they will need is a simple majority to pass most of their agenda and to overturn everything that Trump has accomplished. But Thune doesn’t care. His overlords in the Deep State do not want genuine election reform and they definitely do not want Trump’s agenda to go any further, much less to succeed.

As a result of the changes, Martin will no longer chair the department’s Weaponization Working Group, which was tasked with reviewing special counsel Jack Smith’s prosecutions of Trump and other examples of what Trump sees as “prosecutorial abuse,” according to the people, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss a personnel move that has not been made public. The group itself continues to meet. Martin also lost his title as an assistant attorney general.
Martin will continue to serve as the Justice Department’s pardon attorney but will no longer work at department headquarters. Instead, his office will be located in another Justice Department building in Northeast Washington, pulling him away from the attorney general and the most powerful figures in the department, according to a person familiar with the move. The pardon office is in that Northeast Washington building.
Justice Department officials informed Martin in early December of the demotion, and it went into effect at the end of 2025. It is unclear whether he will remain in the pardon attorney role and, if so, for how long.
