My favorite was a dog leaping for joy as the owner pulls up in his car with his cat. The caption was “Guess who is happy to see you back from the vet, declawed”.
I happened upon a portfolio sized book of every single sketch and cartoon he ever drew, George. Mint condition at Half Priced Books. It was the work of a split second for me to snap it up. I remember the one you mentioned 😂 But then, they were all 😂 😂 😂!!
(I noticed well after I posted that the diabolical “autocorrect” changed his name from Larsen…too early and no ☕ yet for me to see the error straight away. Apologies go out to the great Gary Larsen 😎)
He really was a great cartoonist with a wonderful, goofy, laughable nature. Really enjoy his work.
How fortunate to find that book. When you want a good laugh, you can peruse the book. I would probably have it close at hand to enjoy.
My two great finds that no one wanted…that one and an also mint condition portfolio sized book of everything Norman Rockwell ever sketched, drew or painted. It’s thick, as you can imagine. I can escape from the world as it is now and stay in the one which was for as long as I like.💕

My cat actually jumped in the dryer one time. I was loading the wet clothes in batches and never saw her jump in. I closed the door and started the dryer. Needless to say, there was a very loud thumping noise. The dryer probably cycled 3 times before I opened the door to see what the problem was, and a very frazzled cat ran out! This happened many years ago and I can still replay the entire scene in my head.
Oh my GOSH!!!!! I’ll bet you replay it!!
I admit when we had cats we always checked first, because cats are sneaky like that…

We had one get in the dryer. He was in there for a minute or so. Came out with scorched fur, threw several grand mal seizures over the next three years, then blew an aneurysm in his head and died. He came when my daughter called him. It’s not really funny, for me, anyway.

The cats are all quiet and napping right now. A small respite from the chaos of the morning. Cleo is getting friendlier by the day. She let me hold her for a short time yesterday. and purred loudly. She only lets me hold her if I sit on the bed with her. She is slowly figuring out that some humans are not so scary after all.
I can not believe the kittens are now 7 months old. They must still be growing some because they eat quite a bit, but not all at once. They eat off and on all day instead of wolfing it down like dogs do. I do believe they are going to be larger than their momma.
Maizie and Percy follow me around off and on all day. Pumpkin, the rebel, will pay attention to me only when I am in the kitchen or when I go into the bathroom. She is completely fascinated by the water running and has to have her nose and paws in it if she can. Unfortunately Maizie has picked up on her fascination with water and follows her lead when the water is running. When I take a shower, I have to keep them out of the bathroom because they would probably jump into the tub with me. When I do open the door, they are in the tub in a flash playing with what little water there is laying on the tub floor. Then I see little wet kitten paw prints all over the bathroom and bedroom floor. LOL I read that Maine Coon cats like water and have decided their father may have had some Maine Coon in him. That is about all the “Cat Central” news to relay today.
I finally got an email delivered to The Last Refuge. I am waiting to hear if they will permit me to put my Christmas Story in the comments.

Every cat we ever had ate off and on through the day. I thought was pretty normal moggie behaviour. Though eating as if it had been days since their last meal is something ours never did. I am convinced fed Almighty God, or maybe St Francis directed Cleo and her as yet unborn babes to you. I know it has been an expense and a lot of work….but reading of them, I can’t help but imagine how pitiless their lives would have been without you, sis.

I love this particularly because my sister in law rescued a German Shepherd, Jack, from Chris’s employer. This terrible man had his dog staked out with chain in an open field as a warning to trespassers. jack was a good watchdog for two ladies of a certain age and was loved and cared for all his life. I get teary every time I see this one….

The photo of the pickup with Christmas tree definitely warms this old heart. I’ve always had a soft spot for old pickups—particularly old Chevy pickups. Once upon a time my dear late wife rather strongly demanded that we sell her perfectly little Fiat “teachers” car and purchase the white over blue ’65 Chevy C10 pickup she’d found. And who was I to say no to such demonstrable good taste??
She loved that old truck. It was a real ‘road warrior’. For years she drove it not only to her school, but all over our end of Texas. RIP ‘Old Blue’.
But of COURSE you couldn’t say no 😉 There’s always one vehicle that sticks with you. But I say this on behalf of my Chris who has restored more cars than I’ve had hot dinners. He always wanted a truck, and when we moved back he got one.

I am reviewing, dear Pat…and looking very closely at my blessings, which at first glance one might not consider them to be. And not just in the here and now, but the ones throughout my life that I was either too preoccupied or too unfocused to recognize as such.
It is a tremendously humbling, overdue exercise, let me tell you. And it is one which allows me to see where my Father saw what I could not and intervened in my life, making more poignant the promise that especially during trying times (those deep valleys we all experience when all is darkness) He has better things planned for us than we can hope or pray for….
In the meantime, I count even the smallest thing a beautiful blessing, and I am grateful 🙏🏻😘

I had a horse get moon blindness and an old mare led her around by letting her put her head on her hip. I loved both those horses so much. They were both beautiful bay colored horses with the black manes and tails and black on their lower legs.
What a gentle giant the frost bit old horse is.
I can not believe he found the horse up in those mountains. I do not think I could ride on those narrow trails. I do not like heights.

COMMENTARY FOR ISAIAH 7
Ahaz is threatened by Israel and Syria; and is assured their attack would be in vain. (1-9) God gives a sure sign by the promise of the long-expected Messiah. (10-16) The folly and sin of seeking relief from Assyria are reproved. (17-25)
10-16 Secret disaffection to God is often disguised with the colour of respect to him; and those who are resolved that they will not trust God, yet pretend they will not tempt him. The prophet reproved Ahaz and his court, for the little value they had for Divine revelation. Nothing is more grievous to God than distrust, but the unbelief of man shall not make the promise of God of no effect; the Lord himself shall give a sign. How great soever your distress and danger, of you the Messiah is to be born, and you cannot be destroyed while that blessing is in you. It shall be brought to pass in a glorious manner; and the strongest consolations in time of trouble are derived from Christ, our relation to him, our interest in him, our expectations of him and from him. He would grow up like other children, by the use of the diet of those countries; but he would, unlike other children, uniformly refuse the evil and choose the good. And although his birth would be by the power of the Holy Ghost, yet he should not be fed with angels’ food. Then follows a sign of the speedy destruction of the princes, now a terror to Judah. “Before this child,” so it may be read; “this child which I have now in my arms,” (Shear-jashub, the prophet’s own son, ver. #3|,) shall be three or four years older, these enemies’ forces shall be forsaken of both their kings. The prophecy is so solemn, the sign is so marked, as given by God himself after Ahaz rejected the offer, that it must have raised hopes far beyond what the present occasion suggested. And, if the prospect of the coming of the Divine Saviour was a never-failing support to the hopes of ancient believers, what cause have we to be thankful that the Word was made flesh! May we trust in and love Him, and copy his example.

WE ARE FIGHTING A SPIRITUAL WAR OF GOOD VERSUS EVIL
PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD
Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. All other ground is sinking sand, I pray that I will not slip or fall, but that my feet would be firmly fitted on your lordship, my Lord Jesus. I choose to stand on you, so that the peace of God, which transcends all understanding will guard my heart and mind in Christ Jesus, the eternal Rock of Ages. I receive your holy peace now my Lord, from the sole of my feet to the crown of my head, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray the Shield of Faith into my hand now. As I take up the shield of faith, I ask that you might extinguish every dart and arrow that is launched from the enemy to take me down spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally, and every attempt of the enemy to destroy my joy. I ask that my faith in you would make it flame out. Extinguish every flaming arrow that would come against me, my life, my family, my home, or my ministry. May my faith always be out in front of me like a shield. Give me the courage to “faith my fears” by choosing to walk by faith and not by sight, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Helmet of Salvation, that you might protect my mind from the thoughts that can lead me astray. I choose to take every thought captive, and arrest all intentioned ideas and motives that would harm others, or distract me from your holy will for me. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.
Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.
Thank you my Lord, for the spiritual weapons of armor and prayer that you have given me. It is written no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and you will refute every tongue that accuses me.

any thoughts on having a ‘legal’ raccoon for a pet?
I have met ‘smart’ ones one my acreage, so there’s that.
I dont know much about the legal ownerships though.
Knee-jerk is finding a veterinarian that will rabies vaccinate (because liability would be on you, if you are on paper (legal ownership) as being responsible for the animal).
To my knowledge There is no rabies vaccine for raccoons. There is an oral vax used for feral raccoons and coyotes but is useless if the animal already has the disease.
Side note: The husband of the first veterinarian I worked for died from rabies.
Rabies is endemic in ‘coons here in the deep South. They can be born with it and not show symptoms for several years. But they are still contagious. You do not have to be bitten or scratched to contract it. Kiss the grand baby on the cheek and infect it.
Years ago I raised one from about 3 days old to adult. ‘Buddy’ was a charming fellow. We live in the boonies and he roamed free most of the time. He got along with my dogs and cats and used the pet door. He eventually returned himself to the wild.
I enjoyed the experience but would not do it again.
My advice would be caution. Check with fish and game in your area and your rabies inspector.

My husbands cousin in Pennsylvania lived in a Revolutionary War era house and the kitchen had a massive fireplace for cooking. There were fireplaces on every floor for heating up all the rooms.
They had modern heating installed in a way not to interfere with the original architecture, but during outages, they used the fireplaces. Once they retired, they gave the house to their son and moved to a small town in Montana. I keep in touch with them.
