He won the popular vote. He won all the “swing” states. He won the Electoral College (easily). In today’s political climate, yes, that’s a mandate.

In the USA, Presidential elections are based on ELECTORAL VOTES with each state apportioned according to the decennial census.
However, President Trump also received roughly 2million more votes than Harris, so he also won the Popular vote.

Once the Boomers pass away, network television, as we know it, will totally collapse. I have family and friends in their late 60s-early 80s and those on the right watch FAUX News all day, every day. Those of the left, flip between CNN and MSNBC, but again, they watch it all day, every day. Both groups absolutely believe everything they see, repeat the talking points ad infinitum, and are convinced that those on the “other” side are evil and are the ones destroying the country, while “their” side is always telling the truth and has no agenda!
We haven’t had cable for years, but do have an antennae mounted on the side of the house just in case we needed to see something on the local news, which probably happens once or twice a year. I get my news from a wide variety of shows, blogs, online newspapers (right and left) and, of course, from the branches here at the Treehouse!
If RFK Jr follows through on banning direct to consumer advertising for Big Pharma, the end of network television will be almost immediate…and good riddance to it, I say!
I’m old enough to remember cigarette commercials on TV from when I was a kid. Hopefully today’s kids will be able to say the same about big pharma commercials when they are my age.

My grandchildren watch Netflix on the household TV (unfortunately – the choices are dreadful and for the most part on about 3rd grade level). They do not watch “news”; I am assuming that is what you meant. Their parents watch fox news so they might pick up some news that way. My husband and I do not have a TV at all and I wish the grandchildren’s’ households were the same, unrealistic however.

Yes, but what young people are missing is what I had as a child, which was by watching tv or listening to the radio or reading magazines a window opened into our shared culture, and from that came the opportunity to share the experience with others.
As an example, I remember Jackie Kennedy giving a tour of the White House. It was a major event in my family that we all shared. Then at school we kids shared it again in various ways as teachers used the content in lessons.
For kids now, that collective sharing of our culture hardly exists any more. The media has destroyed it with their 24/7 propaganda machine trying to shove lies down our throats.
I agree that shared culture programing no longer exists. As soon as cable channels were offered I noticed that 99 percent of them were unwatchable. Even the weather and nature channels are now saturated with climate change propaganda.
I had more fun watching channels
2, 4, 5, 7, and 11 as a child than I ever did watching cable TV. And all those channels signed off at midnight playing the Star Spangled Banner!

They banned cigarette commercials in 1971′ in 1977 lawyers were allowed to advertise on television, it wasn’t until 1997 when pharmaceuticals were allowed. IMO, big pharm has done far more damage, even when lawyers had a twenty year head start.

Not this boomer. I used to watch O’Reilly and Tucker. Once I found this place, I stopped watching tv. We haven’t had cable for years now and get local channels through an antenna. But mostly my husband watches those.
I log in here every morning like I used to go out and pick up our local newspaper from the porch.
I’m a millennial, but I have to admit, I’m so tired of seeing people criticize boomers all day, suggesting that they’re nothing more than incompetent, gullible fools. It’s the trendy thing to do apparently. My experience with them has been the exact opposite. Even from a professional standpoint, I have learned a great deal from older employees. Many of them have a strong work ethic and are good, reliable people. There is fault in every generation, and I think we should be careful about making broad assumptions.
My comments were not intended as a “diss” on Boomers, as my older brothers and sisters are in that age group. I was simply commenting that they are the last generation that grew up watching the “nightly news” and thus, when they are gone, the modern era of network television will be gone! The Boomers that I know are very likely to have a particular station or network that they watch and trust, depending on their political leanings, which was the point that I was trying to make.
I have long suspected that a resurgent IRA would rear its head as Ireland is swallowed whole by a coterie of its own elected panjandrums, wedded as they are to the gods of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Climate “Change”, and Islam.

Trump fired 8 New York City immigration judges yesterday. I am sure there will be lawsuits but if the judges are not upholding US immigration laws, significant provable threats of injury or death not economic reasons, which we know they are not, Trump has a provable case they are incompetent or doing judicial malfeasance breaking the law and their oath of office and the firings are justified.

When it comes to the cost of products in the USA, President Trump has had a major impact on pricing in two areas.
He has reduced inflation overall and has dramatically cut the price of energy which benefits many areas of the economy.
On the other hand, he has dramatically increased the cost of illegal drugs by knocking out the boats that ferry the drugs to the US.

My grocery receipt is actually lower here in IL than in FL, for the same items in Publix. Walmart, lower by pennies to a few dollars, depending on what one buys.
Surely State gasoline taxes have more to do with the cost of gasoline than most anything else.
We are Canadians, on our most recent trip to Palm Springs gasoline and some stations was over $5.00 per gallon.
Our gasoline is cheaper here in Greater Vancouver, B.C.
We used to take the 5 minute drive over the border to buy gas in Washington State.
As with Palm Springs, the exchange differential actually makes gasoline more expensive than here in S/W B.C.

The arrests came amid dawn raids, first reported by Euractiv, on the EU diplomatic service in Brussels and the College of Europe in Bruges, where Mogherini, who previously served as Italy’s foreign minister, is the rector. The ongoing probe involves alleged misuse of EU funds, according to people familiar with the investigation and witnesses.
In addition to Mogherini, a socialist who headed the EU’s foreign service between 2014 and 2019, and Sannino, a fellow Italian diplomat who heads the Commission’s directorate general for the Middle East and Northern Africa (DG-MENA), a third person, who works in the executive education department of the College of Europe, was also detained.

Jose Francisco Jovel, 54, is charged with throwing two Molotov cocktails into our downtown Los Angeles Federal Building. This building houses our U.S. Attorney’s Office, ICE, and is where illegal immigrants are processed. Jovel was targeting our immigration enforcement operations and wanted to send a political message.
Thankfully, the devices did not ignite and no one was injured. Jovel was immediately arrested. Federal officers seized Jovel’s belongings and discovered five other Molotov cocktails.
Jovel is charged with attempted malicious damage of federal property, and faces a mandatory minimum sentence of five years in federal prison and up to 20 years’ imprisonment. This is an ongoing investigation and we’ll be looking at adding additional charges.
This case exemplifies how misleading and hateful rhetoric against federal law enforcement can and does result in violence. Irresponsible rhetoric by politicians and activists have real-world consequences. It must stop.

Treasury investigating whether Minnesota tax money went to terrorist organization
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent on Monday said the Trump administration is investigating claims that tax money from Minnesota went to the terrorist organization Al-Shabaab, which is based in Somalia.
Bessent, in a post on social platform X, said he ordered the probe after finding the North Star State’s tax funds went to Al-Shabaab “under the feckless mismanagement of the Biden Administration and Governor Tim Walz.”
Thanks to the leadership of @POTUS @realDonaldTrump, we are acting fast to ensure Americans’ taxes are not funding acts of global terror,” the Treasury chief wrote. “We will share our findings as our investigation continues.”
He also shared a post from the conservative publication City Journal that claims millions of dollars from welfare programs in Minnesota went to the group. The story reported that Republicans state lawmakers asked for the federal government to investigate the claim.
Among these large-scale fraud cases is a $250 million scheme involving the nonprofit group Feeding Our Future. This case led to five people being convicted in 2024 after they were found guilty of misusing funds that were meant to feed children during the COVID-19 pandemic.
