Credit Suisse/UBS and the Mozambique “Tuna Bonds” Mess
This one’s fresh off the press: Swiss federal prosecutors indicted Credit Suisse (now fully absorbed by UBS) for failing to prevent money laundering linked to over $2 billion in loans it extended to Mozambique state-owned companies back in 2013. The funds were meant for a tuna fishing fleet and maritime security projects, but a chunk vanished into corruption—kickbacks, bribes, you name it—tipping the country into a debt crisis. Prosecutors say CS ignored massive red flags, like suspicious service fees, and didn’t have basic organizational safeguards in place by 2016. They also charged an unnamed ex-CS employee with straight-up laundering, while dropping a probe on a second staffer for efficiency reasons.
UBS is fighting it tooth and nail, calling the claims “baseless” and vowing a vigorous defense—after all, this is legacy CS baggage from pre-merger. Penalties could hit up to CHF 5 million (~$6.2M) for the firm, plus up to a year in jail for individuals. It’s part of a broader hangover: CS paid $475M in 2021 to settle U.S./U.K. probes on the same scandal, and UBS inked a separate deal with Mozambique last year to close the civil side. Agreed, and young voters are crucial. They turned out in 2024 and voted for President Trump. Leadership should be paying attention to them and their issues. For example, if we remove millions of people who shouldn’t be here, there will be lower demand for housing, and maybe young people could buy houses again.

A lot of people are trying to claim credit for “breaking” the Minnesota Somali fraud story.
The truth is that Minnesotans have been covering this fraud for years.
For me, it started when I was knocking on doors as an @mngop Field Officer Director. I was the primary liaison to the Jeff Johnson for Governor campaign at the time. I was based in St. Cloud, which was one of the main hubs for the Somali community.
CCAP fraud was where this all began, going back to 2014. It never got the attention it deserved.
The part about it being a funding mechanism for terrorism in the Horn of Africa did not start to get traction until 2018. Even then, mainstream outlets dropped the story overnight, which allowed the problem to grow even worse once COVID arrived.
As for actual “reporting,” I probably started doing that around 2022 when I first began posting about it. Even then, I was doing it in the capacity of a campaign operative working on statewide races.
I never considered myself a journalist until I simply started recycling the Tim Walz opposition research folders from my operative days during the 2024 election. That was when the writers, TV hosts, and radio personalities I had looked up to began calling me a journalist, and that was when I embraced it.

The day before Sarah Beckstrom’s assassination, another Afghan, Mohammad Dawood Alokozay, was arrested for making a TikTok video showing him assembling a bomb intended for Fort Worth, Texas.
The correct answer to “How many Afghans does any country not named Afghanistan need?” is “Zero”.
You will recall that, last time round, President Trump wondered why America only gets immigrants from bleephole countries as opposed to, say, Norway.
And I pointed out that there are only five million Norwegians, so, even if they all moved to the US, it would be a drop in the ocean compared to the remorseless demographic deformation of recent decades.

The Second Amendment is a national defense provision. A “nation” consists of individuals and their homes. If those are not “secure,” then the nation is not defended. As folks in western Europe very commonly find out (too late …) “police” cannot be your first line of defense. Try your very best to avoid trouble, but if trouble does come, you must be prepared and enabled to defend yourself. The Second Amendment provides granularity to the concept of national defense, extending it to the individual level.
Meanwhile, the Fourth Amendment provides for national security. Once again, the individuals and their homes. If they are not “secure in their persons, houses, papers and effects,” then the nation is not secure. Once again, the Constitution extends this concept to the individual. And, right now, we are facing very severe “national security” threats which are originating within the government itself, because the clear line set forth here is not being clearly enforced. To our peril.

Seeing strange, unusually long delays today in CTH emails confirming my posts, and notices of replies. IDK of that’s uniquely on my end or if others are experiencing the same.
I’ve noticed in an attempt to listen or watch some of the videos posted, apparently someone or something is interfering with the playback. It keeps cutting out at inopportune times and then it just cuts off competely. My virus protection could be one of the problems. In an effort to stop a virus, it is being shut down altogether. I’ve never seen this before…just today.
Ok, I doubt it’s your anti-virus / anti-malware program(s) – if it detected a virus in the website code it would kill it altogether, not just intermittent cutting off and on. YouTube is notorious for screwing with videos containing info they don’t like, or your ISP may be interfering….its hard to tell without an on-site analysis of the packets coming into your computer or mobile device.

The only difference between the two terms is in the academic world. Outside of the classroom, socialism means communism. In a few years, democrats will probably become comfortable in acknowledging that they are communists, like they’ve done in recent years with the term socialist.
While there is plenty of Democrat narrative in this 13 year old Politifact article, it actually “swerves into the truth” (credit Rush Limbaugh for the saying) several times, although the numbers of Congress members who are in the Congressional Progressive Caucus are higher today – about 100.

Emails obtained by The Associated Press reveal the National Guard shooting suspect Rahmanullah Lakanwal’s behavior had been raising alarm prior to the attack on Wednesday.
According to the news agency, the 29-year-old had been unable to hold down a job, spent long stretches of time in isolation and took cross-country drives that lasted weeks.
West Virginia National Guard Specialist Sarah Beckstrom, 20, was killed in the shooting, and Staff Sergeant Andrew Wolfe, 24, was critically wounded.
Lakanwal’s behavior concerned one community advocate to the point that they reportedly contacted a refugee organization for help, fearing he was becoming suicidal.
In the person’s two emails that were sent to the U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants, a nonprofit group that provides services to refugees, the community member said: “Rahmanullah has not been functional as a person, father and provider since March of last year, 03/2023. He quit his job that month, and his behavior has changed greatly.”
The email, sent in January 2024, also alleged that Lakanwal was struggling to settle in the state, and was unable to hold down a steady job or go to his English courses.
He also experienced bouts of “dark isolation,” which involved spending weeks in a “darkened room, not speaking to anyone, not even his wife or older kids,” the emails read.
Sometimes, the family would send the youngest children into his room to bring him the phone or messages because he refused to respond to anyone.
