My Dad RIP was a retired federal employee he was in management. When the shutdowns came, he still had to show up at the office from the 60’s through the 80’s. When they had shutdowns there was hardly any mention on the enemy MSM as government was viewed as a necessary evil not a deity to be worshipped by the leftist/UniParty .
Even in those days it was considered a paid vacation for most federal employees. But sometime around the end of President Reagan the enemy MSM learned that they could whip up the “low information” masses with the utterance of a government shutdown, “oh no, run for your lives.”
With CNN’s emergence with “news” becoming entertainment, but this television show 24/7 with constant behavior manipulation with ABC,NBC,CBS,NYT, WaPo, Time, Newsweek…et al joining in and not to be outdone, (PMS shout out to Rush) MSNBC, FOX etc.
Remember Time Magazine putting Newt Gingrich on the front cover as the Grinch who stole Christmas. Sadly, it worked like a charm. Poor Tiny Tim, those evil republicans and “our” team aka the stupid party didn’t push back, because of fear and deep down they agreed with it follow the money.

Again, I was in my men’s group Wednesday night at church, and just a few tears ago it’s usually 50years plus, now the group 50/50 as many young as old. The series for these Wednesday gatherings is still “what it is the be a man.” Not anything sick like, what if you want to be a woman?
It was awesome hearing these young men declare their love of God and being strong men for their young families. Being a man is back in vogue. Wow!
My point is that the uniparty is up to their old tricks going into next years elections trying to scare people, it seems to be falling by the wayside, but with the enemy MSM and the cheat systems in place anything is possible.

I can relate to some of your story. As a retired fed manager, one of the good ones, I can’t tell you how many times employees came to me begging to be declared non-essential for shutdowns. What a warped sense of values!
Yeah, my dad was a conservative with a great education with real skills so I guess that put him in management.
He said he got son much done in the quiet times for his department. He said they had someone who had “narcolepsy” and would literally sleep in meetings. They couldn’t fire him, civil service, so they passed him around to different departments. He had more people than normal with special problems.

And here it is rescinded by Biden. “The policy was rescinded by President Joe Biden on January 20, 2021, shortly after he took office.”
So Trump did it again:
“The new ban, formalized in a Presidential Proclamation that came into effect on Monday, June 9, 2025, suspends the entry of nationals from 19 countries, primarily targeting Muslim-majority and African nations.” (note the increase to 19 countries)

There has been a lot of talk now about the SNAP program and I think big changes are coming.
Somewhere in the cobwebs of my mind, I recall reading a report that the UN did that said that the number one reason that a nation would revolt is because of hunger.
So when you think about that, it makes a whole lot of sense why the SNAP program looks like it does- and who did all that?

We’re “early retirees” because my husband was a firefighter for 34 years and retired at 59 (53-58 is normal for people in that line of work due to the physicality of the job).

Normally they would run this same strategy, accept the short term CR, then the night before Christmas pass an Omnibus with all the waste, fraud, & abuse they can eat.
This time the other 9 appropriations bills get extended until January 30th.
Notice the dates that the house passed and sent the 3 appropriations bill to the senate. At that point the house had passed 3 appropriations bills and sent them to the senate . The senate rewrote the thee bills into one bill adding a shit ton of spending the house had removed from the previous years spending and sent a minibus 3 bills in one back to the house. The house sets that 3 bill minibus aside and continues passing and sending bills up to the senate as they complete them in the house. The senate never takes another vote in the senate on any other appropriation bill received from the house all the way through the shut down.
So now by January 30th the senate must vote on the other 9 appropriations bills, send them back to the house, the house has to agree with the senate changes or not for each bill, make compromises/changes and send back and forth till they agree.
What is more likely to happen is the senate will bundle all 9 of the remaining bills into a huge omnibus sometime late January pass it in the senate then send it back to the house a few days before the end of Jan 30th 2026. The house will cry foul write mean letters and pass another CR. Repeat cycle until everyone blames Mike Johnson, The House, President Trump so the house can lose the midterms.

This week marked a record at the local St. Vincent De Paul Food Bank: over 300 people served in over 100 families.
A normal week in earlier months and years was much lower: e.g. near the end of President TRUMP’S first term, we were serving 100 families…per month!
I have previously delineated how, under the 8 years of MAObama (2008- 2016) and the 4 years of the usurper, The Manchurian Marionette (2020-2024), the numbers rose steadily, and under the latter, the numbers rose very quickly to where they were under MAObama in his last year.
Only President TRUMP brought the numbers down: unfortunately, the wreckage under The Manchurian Marionette has been so severe, that the numbers have not gone down much yet.

Our check-out person was explaining to several people that their benefits were not being canceled, that Congress had voted (this was on Wednesday, November 12th) to keep their payments coming, but that the money would be delayed a little.
Nevertheless, the lines were the longest ever for a single day: apparently many were panicked by fake news about their benefits being “canceled.”
You would be amazed by the number of super-obese people (and I mean waists between four and five feet in circumference) are somehow numbered among “The Hungry.”

On a related note…I have been revisiting a novel by a British author named Gwyn Griffin, of whom you have most likely never heard.

The main problem with H1B is the EXEMPT category. Universities and “non”profit organizations are EXEMPT from the statutory 85,000 Total H1B Visa’s given Limit per year.
U.S. H-1B visa program: exemptions from the annual numerical cap (the 65,000 regular visas plus 20,000 for U.S. master’s degree holders). These exemptions allow specific types of employers to sponsor H-1B workers without being limited by the cap or the associated lottery system. In other words, they can file petitions year-round and hire as many qualified workers as needed, without competing for the finite slots available to for-profit companies and other cap-subject employers.
This doesn’t change the “core numbers” (65,000 + 20,000) for most employers—it just carves out exceptions to make it easier for certain public-interest or educational/research-focused organizations to attract specialized talent.

The democrats did significant damage to the economy ahead of the Holidays and the GOP senate and house basically ran the rest of Trump’s first year off the calendar and have done nothing on Trump’s Save America agenda. His insider advisors are likely telling him to “play nice” with the GOP or they won’t do anything. Truth is, they won’t do anything either way and we are heading for the democrats to take the house and/or the senate in one year, effectively ending Trump II legislatively, if not completely. We shouldn’t be wasting one day, let alone an entire legislative year.
If you don’t hate the GOP now, wait one year. They are taking our nation into the abyss.
It seems like President Trump is being distracted with foreign policy issues that he’s unable to change. He was able to get a peace deal in Gaza, but will it hold past his term? He is also trying in Ukraine but none of the participants actually want peace. All of this foreign policy work is taking up a lot of his time and his energy while the domestic issues he COULD change are languishing. I assume this is on purpose – his staff is managing him toward foreign policy and away from domestic. We’ve lost the domestic momentum of the first couple of months and we desperately need that back. The tariffs are in place, trade deals negotiated, now tell the rest of the world they will have to wait and we’ll get back to them when we’ve fixed things at home.

Re: H1B. I’ve been a leader in the Technology area for 25 years so I’m speaking from experience. I have never once wanted to hire an H1B. However, I have hired H1B candidates multiple times. It is always because there simply are not qualified candidates who apply that are not H1B. H1B’s are not less expensive. The legal filings increase the cost as well. Plus you have to deal with the H1B candidates frequently returning home for 3 weeks at a time to care for relatives.
My view is that demand for these skills exceeds the US labor pool. That most to all employers would rather have US labor fill these roles. But they have projects to deliver and need staff so H1B is where they turn. This is not by definition an unamerican position to take. In many cases these H1B candidates work hard to try to also become US citizens via the immigration process.
I won’t bite on the division over this issue. Sit in my seat and try to recruit Technology talent and tell me what you would do for an open position that your company needs right now but you don’t have qualified candidates? I can’t solve this by telling people to go to school.
So you’re saying that there are currently no American grads in the IT field that are unemployed and that you’d rather hire someone from abroad with fake credentials? Let’s get more specific on exactly what skills American’s don’t have, perhaps there’s someone reading here that’s looking for work.

I’ve been a manager in the technology area, responsible for reviewing resumes, interviewing, and making hiring recommendations for over 25 years. I was specifically instructed not to consider anything but best candidate. Sometimes that best candidate was H1B. “Best Candidate” is not the same thing as “No Qualified US Candidates”
When layoffs came, H1B were retained and US were let go. Same position. Possibly H1B ranked higher, but clearly there was a qualified US candidate in the same position
Increasing the pool of candidates reduces wages, full stop. Or perhaps you are unfamiliar with the law of supply and demand?
Additionally, H1B will work longer hours for the same pay. They are also much less likely to report ethics violations of their superiors.
I witnessed all this firsthand. I have sat in your seat. What you can’t find is qualified US candidates willing to work for the same pay and working conditions as H1B. That’s not a lack of candidates, that’s exploitation of foreigners to discriminate against Americans.
Roughly 50% of US graduates with STEM degress are employed in non-STEM jobs. Honestly most STEM jobs suck because of the pay/expectations created by the ready availability of H1B

The very first thing I would do is talk to colleges and try to recruit intelligent candidates to my field and company. This is what other industries do. You offer recruitment bonuses. Your company, surely, offers education reimbursement.

I’m going to guess you’re not talking about IT, but more “platform specialists” (people who execute/manage various SaaS or on-premise solutions of all kinds: marketing/analytics/finance/HR), “Front-end/back-end/full-stack devs” or things like that?
People who do grunt work on things like Salesforce.com/Marketing cloud, Azure, AWS, Peoplesoft/Workday etc.
And while yes, there are entire populations in India and Pakistan that instead of learning regular things at school, only learn how to do the most tedious things in those platforms, it is still usually low quality (As I’m sure you know).
Literally none of that stuff, outside perhaps full-stack developers, is even remotely hard to learn. Any smart American could pick that stuff up after some training modules and a sandbox. Also, those roles don’t pay enough and demand hours/work-life balance that only an H1B would tolerate.
So, you’re not fooling me. Yes, smart American young people won’t work for 35K a year and have to be online 18 hours a day, 7 days a week…. which all H1B will always do. It isn’t the work itself, its the amount and the compensation and the demands Americans have gotten used to having near-slave level control of the H1B people.. so they can continue to under-scope and over-promise their clients and then use that slave labor to make it work.

i have been in tech for decades as well, and my experience is pretty different from yours.
i have personally witnessed constant manipulation and gaming of the system using a wide variety of surprisingly creative means to get around the rules – and thats assuming the fedfascists even want to enforce them, which they don’t.
i would agree there is significant skills offset in some cases, but that is one of the easiest things to account for by a company. for example, Amazon just laid off thousands, and then the next day had hundreds of open positions in their rocket division. amazon should be PROHIBITED from filling ANY of those positions with H1B until they can show evidence why they were unable to retrain them. if we’re talking training an HR person to be a rocket scientist, okay i get it. but the vast majority of these were relatively simple things like a workday or servicenow tech or some java developer. and further, those don’t even have to be done in person so the people don’t need to move from seattle to dallas to sit on a database or check in code all day.
the “skill” thing is largely gaslighting.
I’ve read through a couple studies on H1b over the past few days and they back up what you are saying. There is a deficit of American stem graduates in many specialized fields that require specific talents.
There was also a study done not too long ago that said the MRNA vaccines were safe and effective.

I am remarking on the danger of trying a case in public before an official interrogation has taken place. In the old days, that would have been called “Yellow Journalism.” There are instances where public disclosure has caused a case to be thrown out because of perceived prejudice making an impartial trial impossible.
