Just a reminder about how RIFs work:
First: you declare that a program or an agency (or part thereof) is disestablished. The reason currently will be no funding.
Second: you count the number of worker positions are no longer needed because the organization they supported is gone.
Third: you terminate any employee in a terminated position. THAT’s a RIF — reduction in force.
The job goes away, so the employee can be let go.

This seems too good to be true but I am hopeful because of the way this has played out.
First they did DOGE and found all the ghost employees, eliminating fake positions they could manipulate.
Second, they did the buy out. This thinned the ranks and would have helped identify which jobs were truly “essential”.
When an employee took the buy out, a replacement for that job could not be rehired unless the bosses could prove it was “essential” – and difficult hoops had to be jumped through to do that.
That thinning of available workers would likely have resulted in management moving the smaller number of remaining employees into the most needed positions to accomplish the actual required tasks like physically getting out the Social S pymts out.
For example, the people who push the buttons to make the social security payments happen are “essential” as opposed to the legion of supervisors standing around watching them do it.
In a government shut down, I believe “essential” employees still come to work… further identifying who is truly “essential” as opposed to the “nice to haves”
If so, it was a brilliant unfolding to determine by attrition which positions are truly required to get the job done.

Some very strange things are happening in China!
They are becoming very hostile, and sending letters to Countries throughout the World, that they want to impose Export Controls on each and every element of production having to do with Rare Earths, and virtually anything else they can think of, even if it’s not manufactured in China.

I am married to a military member (retired) and there were always foreign pilots here to receive training back to at least the seventies. A lot of Middle East countries. This seems a little overblown to me especially Qatar as actually built us a whole base when we needed it. They also buy a lot of military equipment. Strange bedfellows perhaps but let us not pretend it is abnormal. I can also remember that the Russians were helping us in the first Gulf War. Far better to work with countries than have them for enemies.

This is an excellent Truth post by President Trump, but I must say, he should save the surprise. China is a vile, duplicitous, habitually lying regime, and they can’t ever be trusted. It’s interesting to see the DOW drop so heavily today, but I am not surprised. Even though I love investing, I’m appalled by the sleazy business that has overtaken Wall Street. They want endless cheap goods, and they’ll practically sell the rope to hang themselves as long as there are no tariffs. They are truly anti-American. Playing the rare earth card is about the only move they have, so it should be fully expected. As someone who works in manufacturing, we can’t simply brush this under the carpet like every past administration has done.
We need to hit China hard, and I am all for sending their economy into an irreversible tailspin. I don’t care what negative effect it has within their country, it’s not our problem. Though we have a huge arsenal of economic tools that can be used to apply pressure, there is one that we need to perfect as soon as possible…dominance in rare earth mining and processing. Back in the 60s-80s, we were the largest producer of rare earths in the world. We’ve literally ceded an entire industry to China, and everyone just throws their hands up in the air that nothing can be done. This is utter nonsense. We are getting closer, but I estimate that we are still around 5 years away from being able to enter the industry as a major player. We need to accelerate this, and we should be doing as much as possible to incentivize rapid innovation in this area. Once we do, we can literally give China the middle finger, as they’ll have no leverage.
I’ve been saying this for months/years, but rare earth mining and processing is our ticket to decoupling.

My husband and I have been on Minnesota Care (premiums paid for different plans) for over 5 years, and today we both got a letter in the mail saying our coverage ends on December 31, 2025.
Hubby called UCare, who takes care of Minnesota Care for Minnesotans, and asked ‘What’s up with this?’
Woman said something (couldn’t hear her part of the conversation), and then hubby says, ‘It’s all Tampom Timmy’s fault. He’s been giving all our [state] money away to illegals — millions and millions of dollars — and now there is no money for citizens who paid into the system for decades.’
Yeap, we’ll see how much our new “healthcare” insurance costs.
