We need to take good care of ourselves, fellow Treepers, to be in good shape for the fight ahead or to also enjoy a golden era for our beautiful country! I mean, it would be too damn bad to have things pan out and then not be able to have a good time due to problems incurred due to self-neglect!
My big example of that I want to put across to you is taking the best care you can of your eyes. Somehow make it a priority to have the best ophthalmological care you can obtain and going to the 99 cent store to determine what size reader glasses you now need will not cut it.
I found out in September 2023 (at 71 years old) that I had cataracts AND glaucoma but once the cataracts were removed, the glaucoma would go away; that’s what my beautiful ophthalmologist told me and he was right. The doctor told me straight: “Susan, you are in serious danger of losing your vision.” The cataracts in my case were actually causing the pressure – the glaucoma. I was boggled but actually rather elated that I did not have a brain tumor or some horrible thing that could not be fixed. His staff arranged things with my insurance company and set up the two appointments for two separate sessions, two weeks apart. Following the surgeries, the pressure improved and then became perfect – “perfect pressure” – no drops needed; the glaucoma indeed “went away” as the doctor said it would. But I had to promise to go every year to see him and I have done that.
I am the worst procrastinator. Do not be like me and risk letting something happen with your eyes, if you can help it! So you can live your best life. So that you can enjoy the good times and be able to take care of your loved ones. It’s a great life if you don’t weaken . . . and if you don’t procrastinate (which I guess actually falls under weakening because it means that one is being fearful rather than pursuing the truth of a situation).
I just had a Vitrectomy to remove a macular pucker. Now I need Cataract surgery I can barely see out of my right eye. It totally sucks.
Cataract surgery is probably the easiest procedure there is and the results are SO WORTH it…no one should hesitate.

I have Glaucoma and am fairly young to have it. I have already lost about half vision
in one eye I had the tube surgery (they put a tube in your eye so the fluid can drain.)
just the thought when I had it done was scary.. but after a few complications it so
far has worked well though I still have eye drops. but yes go find a good eye doc
and the cataract surgery was a breeze compared to the tube surgery..once you lose any
amount of vision they can;t get it back for you..so yes get your eyes checked.
Ma’am, taking methylene blue 4 times completely reversed my glaucoma.. it’s worth a look..
FYI: methylene blue mimics a small portion of the benefits one receives from sustained vigorous, cardio intensive exercise e.g. elevated heart rate, max oxygen velocity, for one hour sustained. Three days a week is the optimum rate.
methylene blue is a great alternative for people that for whatever reason can’t physically do the three days a week of exercise. But if one can, the exercise is the best choice and will convey the maximum benefits possible.

I am glad in my case that the glaucoma went away but that sounds like a good thing to look into for others dealing with this, if it isn’t like my glaucoma, totally alleviated by the removal of the cataracts.
I was told average age for cataracts was 85.
I thought so too – I mean, I thought that in my case that would not be a problem until further down the road – but apparently, they CAN show up earlier!
I had them in both eyes, the right eye was the worst. Had no idea I could have cataracts as I had an eye exam in 2018 and all was good, only a very tiny start of a cataract in one eye.

I just did not know HOW I could get through it – I was mainly afraid I would cough or sneeze or make some other move that would mess everything up and I told them that – (the doctor, the nurses, the anesthesiologist). Mom kept reminding me about what Padre Pio said: “Pray, hope and don’t worry.” This was a test of that and it had to be some kind of miracle plus the doctor and his team are old hands at this, people like me.
It also helped me a great deal to know that my stepsister Terry was at the house with Mom and her hubby Jim drove me to the appointments and waited for me – when the doctor set up the appointments for me I didn’t know what I was going to do about getting over there and back and if Mom would be alone waiting for me, worrying about me, etc. etc.; I worried about that, so many reasons to put it off but I did not dare to do so.
I think I was getting the soonest possible appointments. As it turned out, everything fell beautifully into place as Terry and Jim happened to call that evening and I told them about the procedures and immediately they offered to come down to the desert. The doctor used to have a shuttle service for patients but they didn’t have that any longer and you can’t take an Uber, Lyft or cab, you need to have someone like my dear brother-in-law to shepherd you around and make sure you get back home safely.
I have the basic IOL (intra-ocular lens); the doctor thought that was the best thing for me with my “profile” (as there were other issues with my vision, such as an astigmatism, I think). He set me up with a lens that gives me beautiful distance vision. I use glasses for close reading (like the newspaper crossword puzzle); after the surgeries, he wrote a new prescription for my glasses. There are other levels of IOL’s – so you don’t need any glasses at all, I think – but this has worked out great and it’s what the doctor thought would be best.
I was thinking when I read your comment that you are going to your eye surgeon in October and that sounded so far away – but October will be here on this coming Wednesday! So I do hope it is ASAP for you. I was fortunate in another way with my doctor as he is also my Mom’s eye doctor and he did her cataracts in 2015 and we thought he was very good then, too.
My eye doctor also wanted to see me in his office the day AFTER the procedure to see how everything was looking – so my very fine brother-in-law took me to those appointments, too – so you might need to plan for that as well, if you can have someone take you over to see your eye doctor that next morning, if that’s his routine.
Thanks so much again for all the details you provided of your cataract surgery experience. It is very helpful as I am planning out all the logistics of travel to and from the eye clinic. I was worrying about all that you explained.

Mills/Genz are priced out of the housing market, crippled by student debt for a degree they can’t get a job with because boomer employers are importing third worlders, and the U.S. stock market is about to crash into a Japan-style period of stagnation when the modern monetary party comes to an end.
I am a boomer and paid over 75k for my home, Had a 9.5% mortage for many years thanks to Carter. I was hit by repeated mini economic slowdowns and hits to my 401 which was two steps forward one back for pretty much my entire working career. The only way I have accumulated any wealth was to live very simply and avoid any cc debt or new cars, fancy clothes or exotic vacations. Now at 70 I see the whole scheme as it was clearly done to us on purpose.
Many of us lived like you did. And if we didn’t have cash, we would put an item on lay away until we could afford to pay for it. Credit cards were the downfall for many.
Please. My parents are Boomers they did not have high-paying jobs, their first home was way more than 23 thousand and very small – I grew up there, they did not have much disposable income to save for retirement.
This crap is ridiculous. Is everything more expensive yes. Is it impossible – no. It may be anecdotal but I am Gen X and all my siblings, in-laws, friends, coworkers, and cousins kids that are in their 20s and 30s are doing just fine. All that are out of college have launched, most have bought houses, many are married and some have kids. Everyone of them in their 30s (peak millennial) have bought a house. I have a couple of nieces/nephews who bought their houses before 25.
Same story with my millennial coworkers. I work in a large company and all my millennial colleagues I know enough to speak with own a house – many have a more expensive house in a better location than I a Gen X person has.
Where the younger generation makes a mistake is thinking they will never do something – that becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy and then they waste money on other things and give up on long-term goals.
Also anecdotal but I remember when I was starting out every one of my peers had roommates or a working spouse – so two incomes paying housing. We also lived in crap apartments in sketchier neighborhoods or commuted farther to our jobs. A lot of us also worked two jobs because our entry level salaries were so low and that was a way to pay off debt, buy a car, or save for a down payment.
Right, the disparity can be largely explained by the fact that it takes decades to accumulate wealth.
This wealth distribution is exactly what you would expect, and is the very reason a young person would buy life insurance, in case he dies before acquiring an estate.
I do recognize that today’s economy is worse in a lot of ways for Gen Z.
They should factor in the number of Boomer parents who have paid off houses and will give them to their children as an inheritance. But no, they must vilify the parents.
NHnative, applying a bit of logic to the graphic – what would that have looked like for prior generations?
Does it not reason to say that the boomers have acquired their wealth over longer periods than subsequent generations, and therefore it is natural for their slice to be bigger? That logic is borne out by the fact that the gen x’s are also roughly double of the millennials/gen z’s. Also, as each generation matures and eventually dies, their successors (if they exist – alternatively the STATE 🙁 ) inherits their portion of the pie.
The counterweight to that argument would be the growing population over time – making the populations within each successive generation larger, although there are also arguments to the contrary due to families having fewer children (enter the globalists’ push for illegal “migration”), but that is a more complex dynamic…
Where things go south is when you start to break down demographics/social classes within each of those generational silos to reveal what percentage of each generation’s share is held by the financial and/or technical oligarchs.
I agree that if you normalize the chart to cumulative years lived and inflation then you get to something more useful.
It is nonetheless also true that boomers sold out future generations (writ large) for immediate financial benefit per NH Native’s followup post above.

I am not a Boomer, but this bashing is just stupid and an exercise in envy.
Those numbers make sense as there are not many Silents left as they are old and were a small generation to begin with. Also, they have spent most their retirement savings as they are old.
Boomers are a very large generation age 61 to 79 now. Many are still working, they were the first generation with a lot of households with two career level incomes, and most of that wealth comes from the inflation of real estate.
Gen X is 45 to 60 – the top earning years but a very small generation so of course Boomer wealth dwarfs them given their size, extra years of work savings, and real estate inflation.
Gen Z is currently age 14 to 27 meaning they shouldn’t have much accumulated wealth as the majority are still in school or entry level workers.
Millennials – a lot just missed benefitting from real estate inflation so net wealth is missing that, they also chose to take on student loan debt in much larger numbers because the vast majority at least started college whereas generations prior to them attended college in lower numbers. They also are not marrying or marrying later not benefitting from the 2-income household that enables you to buy a house etc. sooner – building wealth.
It is not impossible though. Everyone of my nieces and nephews that is in their 20s and 30s has a good job and has bought a house except the ones still in school.
It is completely possible but it requires good decision making – pick a marketable college degree or get a marketable skill (trades). Do not go into debt for college and do it at the lowest cost possible. Do not expect to buy a house like your middle-aged parents because you can’t afford it, get something smaller, older, farther away from jobs. Don’t spend your money on expensive things – millennials in particular like experiences – pricier restaurants, international travel, destination weddings and even bachelor/bachelorette parties. No one I know in older generations was spending money like that when they were trying to buy a house, afford kids etc.
I agree the bashing is divisive, unhelpful and does not reveal the real drivers behind the so called “wealth”, and “distribution” of that wealth for which many boomers have been harmed and who may take a significant dive if the stock market crashes, there is a run on banks or any other Wall Street bad deed (ala JP Morgan spoofing silver). I remember the impacts of Nixon taking the US off the gold standard. I remember the job losses and recession. I remember 12% interest for a home mortgages in the 1980s. I was living in Texas when OPEC flooded the market and witnessed the the anger over the windfall profits tax. I saw jobs disappear into Mexico with NAFTA and the massive highway project on US 59 the North American Highway-Mexico to Canada. That pie graph is stupid. The millenials suffered more economic harm because the big banks were “too big to fail”. Manipulation by the fed.

When hubby and I were able to buy our first house it was a 2 BR. One for hubby and me, one for ALL of our kids to share. No frills, no diswasher, no central heat or AC, just a woodstove, no extra bathrooms, no basement video arcade, no 5 acre landscaped yard.
It cost us $29k, with a 13% mortgage rate.
We saved every extra dime we had for 5 years to have a down pmt. We didn’t take annual trips to the beach, nor disneyworld. We almost never ate out. We didn’t have the silly expenditures of today, such every kid in the house has to have a cell phone with unlimited minutes and data. Nor did we pay for our kids to get exercise such as dance and cheer. We made them go in the backyard to play for free. We didn’t pay $200 per month for cable tv with a thousand channels. We read books.
We honored our parents who came before us and respected what they did to give US a better life than they had. We asked them for their advice and experience.
The ones complaining about my generation today need to buck up and stop whining. Work like we did, save like we did, put off your incessant need for constant entertainment, and pathetic online affirmation. You will be surprised at what you too can accomplish.
