Hi dear Bet! Can’t believe it’s afternoon already. Took Nipper to school this morning and was at the gym at 8 o’clock. Usually, we get to school a few seconds before eight but this morning we left a couple of minutes early, the roads were clear like 20 years ago, and the lights were cooperating. Praise the Lord! Then early at HEB, and even found a new Blue Bell taste, Pecan Pie. Now I’ll have to make a run to our little town liquor store to get some cognac to go with it. ❤️😘

Been working today on restoring the cabinet of a 1972 Magnavox credenza console stereo, with “quadraphonic” sound.
Picked the piece up, literally, off the side of the road this summer, not knowing if the components would work or not.
Got it home, plugged it in, and everything worked great — the wood cabinet just looked a little tired.
Last Saturday I bought 24 1970s/1980s vinyl albums at a garage sale for $3.50, so while I cleaned and varnished the console, I listened to 4 of the lps. First song I listened to an the O’Jays album — ‘For the Love of Money’ — theme song for Donald Trump’s ‘The Apprentice.’
Pretty cool. If it truly features 4-channel quadraphonic sound, then you must also have gotten two additional separate full-range speakers for the rear of the room (or sides of the room). Quad sound requires four separate speakers because the amplifier should have four sets of speaker output terminals marked Front Left, Front Right, Rear Left, Rear Right. Some units even might have a Front Center output but that’s more for Dolby Surround Sound, which is a much later technology than Quadraphonic Sound (which came out in the early ’70s). Panasonic had Quadraphonic units as did Sony, Pioneer, Kenwood, Sansui, and a few other Japanese brands. Some American brands tried it but the format (quad) faded from popularity before it ever really got established in the consumer market
The main problem that reduced its popularity was source media. Only 8-track tapes (!) were easily used for having 4 separate tracks of sound for music, and the tracks had to be recorded or down-mixed by the studio engineers for a 4 track final tape (more expense added to producing tapes and records in both formats – stereo and quad. Regular 2-track Stereo was far more popular and easier for vinyl records although they tried quad vinyl records but it was still a two-sided groove and didn’t achieve the best separation.

Well, this console is definitely not quadraphonic, GB Bari. Makes sense — “quad” speakers!

It has two rather large cone/cup looking speakers inside (I saw on another site), and then two connectors for external speakers on the back. But this console did not come with the extra speakers, and old ads I’ve seen didn’t include them, either.
My dad, who was a very cool dude, was an electronic engineer. As a kid, and even as an adult, I never really knew what that meant, but I knew some of the stuff he did and still have some of the stuff he made.
When I was young dad worked on the top of the Sandia Crest, the mountain just east of Albuquerque, New Mexico. He’d work and live on top of the mountain three days on, then be home for three days off. He’d make sure the “signal” crossed over the mountain from east coast to west, and from west coast to east. Sometimes, on early mornings while watching cartoons, I’d hear dad’s voice saying the call letters of the station he worked for, KOB TV, and every once in a while mom and my four sisters and I got to go to the transmitter station and stay overnight. One wall was full of TV sets, all showing different shows, and all of the TVs were color, long before dad brought the first color TV set home to our house, and our neighborhood.
When I was in the 4th grade we moved to Minnesota and dad worked for KSTP; both stations were owned at the time by Hubbard Broadcasting.
When my sisters and I started having boyfriends, and all the boys wanted to be in rock-n-roll bands, my dad brought a machine home that could make vinyl records. So our boyfriends (little neighborhood boys who thought they’d be the next Beatles) would bang on their drums, strum their guitars, and sing into the microphones while we oogled at what they were doing, and dad watched the blank record spin around and start filling up with grooves.
I still have one of those old records and played it the other day. Sounds terrible, but at the time we thought it was fabulous.
Dad could fix any kind of radio or old television. He made all kinds of electric “toys” for us as kids, and I still have some of his mad scientist “things” he made, and I have no clue what they are.
And, my dad always loved good music. He always got the best stereo, whether for our family car or our living room. He loved dancing with my mom, he loved pretending he was a Maestro when listening to classical music (so mom bought him a Maestro’s baton — I still have), and the sound in dad’s car was always so good that whenever we went to visit our aunts and uncles, our cousins always wanted to sit in our car and listen to the radio.
I think dad would have liked our “new acquisition.”
I found this video about restoring a vintage AstroSonic console. The one in the video was manufactured in 1969. I don’t think he reveals the particular model number, but it looks similar to the one you’ve linked to in your post.

Wow. What a wonderful childhood experience! Your dad sounds a bit like me in my younger years, but he was definitely more experienced in television & radio relay electronics.
I have a younger sibling who still lives in Albuquerque and I’ve been out there as recently is 2017. Rode the cable car up to the top of Sandia mountain. From her backyard near Rio, Rancho, Sandia Mtn. often looks pink in the in the evening sunset light. Went to an international balloon festival also when we were out there. That is completely magical.
I worked on radiation TVs while I was still in high school and later on worked at a high-end stereo shop for several years while I sharpen my skills as I was going to community college and taking an electronic technology course. Met my future wife there and eventually our kids definitely always had the latest electronic gadgets that I would pick up cheap and when they were broken and fix them up to work for practically nothing.
Stereo was my passion for a couple decades, as I also worked at a high-end shop that sold the latest stereo equipment.

Biography: The 20th President of the United States (1881). His presidency lasted just 200 days, from March 4, 1881, until his death on September 19, 1881, as a result of being shot by an assassin earlier in the year. Garfield, who represented Ohio in the House of Representatives, is to this day the only president elected who was a sitting House member.
Despite his exceptionally brief period of time in office, Garfield’s accomplishments as President included a controversial resurgence of Presidential authority above Senatorial courtesy in executive appointments; energizing U.S. naval power; and purging corruption in the Post Office Department. He also advocated for civil service reform which was signed into law by his successor.
Garfield was shot by Charles J. Guiteau on July 2, 1881. The wound was not immediately fatal, but bad medical practices and uses of unwashed tools and hands by his doctors led to the wound becoming infected. He died on September 19, 1881, making him one of four presidents to have been assassinated, following Abraham Lincoln and before William McKinley and John F. Kennedy. He was succeeded by his Vice President, Chester A. Arthur.

Biography: Guy Penrose Gibson was a British bomber pilot in the Royal Air Force during the Second World War. He was the first Commanding Officer of No. 617 Squadron, leading the “Dam Busters” raid in 1943, which breached two large dams in the Ruhr area of Germany. Gibson was awarded the Victoria Cross, the highest military decoration for valor. Over his career, he completed over 170 war operations before his death at age 26.
Born in Simla, British India, Gibson’s early life was marked by his parents’ separation when he was six. He was educated in England, starting school at West Cornwall College before moving to London. He attended St Edward’s School, Oxford, where he developed interests in science, photography, and literature.
Gibson’s military career began with his training at the Bristol Flying School and RAF Uxbridge. He joined No. 83 (Bomber) Squadron, flying Hawker Hinds and later Handley Page Hampdens. Gibson distinguished himself as a skilled and courageous pilot, leading to his assignment to No. 29 Squadron in Fighter Command.
During his time with No. 106 Squadron in Bomber Command, Gibson led several significant operations, including raids on Le Creusot and the Ruhr dams. This is interesting news. I know “arranging” marriages for underage girls is custom in many cultures, but it’s something that I, personally, find abhorrent. It’s always struck me as little more than a kind of human trafficking, with a thin veneer of legitimacy plastered over it. Now, however, it seems Bolivian parents will no longer be able to cash-in on their young girls:

“Christ’s preaching. (1) Christ’s answer to John’s disciples. (2-6) Christ’s testimony to John the Baptist. (7-15) The perverseness of the Jews. (16-24) The gospel revealed to the simple. The heavy-laden invited. (25-30)1 Our Divine Redeemer never was weary of his labour of love; and we should not be weary of well-doing, for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.”
25-30 It becomes children to be grateful. When we come to God as a Father, we must remember that he is Lord of heaven and earth, which obliges us to come to him with reverence as to the sovereign Lord of all; yet with confidence, as one able to defend us from evil, and to supply us with all good. Our blessed Lord added a remarkable declaration, that the Father had delivered into his hands all power, authority, and judgment. We are indebted to Christ for all the revelation we have of God the Father’s will and love, ever since Adam sinned. Our Saviour has invited all that labour and are heavy-laden, to come unto him. In some senses all men are so. Worldly men burden themselves with fruitless cares for wealth and honours; the gay and the sensual labour in pursuit of pleasures; the slave of Satan and his own lusts, is the merest drudge on earth. Those who labour to establish their own righteousness also labour in vain. The convinced sinner is heavy-laden with guilt and terror; and the tempted and afflicted believer has labours and burdens. Christ invites all to come to him for rest to their souls. As I take up the shield of faith, I ask that you might extinguish every dart and arrow that is launched from the enemy to take me down spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally, and every attempt of the enemy to destroy my joy. I ask that my faith in you would make it flame out. Extinguish every flaming arrow that would come against me, my life, my family, my home, or my ministry. May my faith always be out in front of me like a shield. Give me the courage to “faith my fears” by choosing to walk by faith and not by sight, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Helmet of Salvation, that you might protect my mind from the thoughts that can lead me astray. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.
Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.

THE POWER OF GOD
When confronted with impossible odds
With insurmountable bauds and frauds

Trust – Lean Not – and do Acknowledge
The path made straight by pre-knowledge
Does faith precede you in all that you do
Is obedience without further ado
Do you take it up with Him first or last
Is your turmoil present or is it past
Does doubt deter and mesmerize your mind

I was wondering if Sundance has discussed Pam Bondi’s comment on cracking down on “hate speech”? I know she walked back her comments some but I was surprised and dismayed that she made those comments in the first place. It seems like a clear attack on free speech to me. Has this been discussed and I missed it?
Wanted to note that I am not referencing the debate surrounding free speech in general like Jimmy Kimmel suspension or termination of employees who expressed support or joy about the Charlie Kirk assassination. I think those things were business decisions and completely warranted as examples of people facing the consequences of their speech. I am just asking about discussion of Bondi’s comments as I admittedly found them alarming and antithetical to what the MAGA movement stands for.

Fun Fact: George Washington’s Divine Armor:
What if I told you that George Washington survived over a dozen deadly diseases and near deaths?
Washington survived malaria, tuberculosis,dysentery, diphtheria, pneumonia, skin cancer and smallpox.
In fact, it was actually the smallpox, which he contracted as teenager, that kept him alive decades later in the American revolution.
Here’s the story – When George was 18 his older brother Lawrence contracted tuberculosis. He was told to go to warmer climate to recover. George accompanied Lawrence to Barbados, which was the only time George Washington ever stepped foot outside the country in his lifetime. Unfortunately, Lawrence never recovered, and George contracted smallpox while in Barbados.
The smallpox made George sterile, never able to have children, but it was actually the smallpox that would help him decades later, during the Revolutionary war. There were massive deadly smallpox outbreaks during the Revolution, but George was immune, as everyone else was dying.
Another story, early in his military career, in 1755, as a British soldier, George Washington was in an infamous military loss, known as “Braddock’s defeat”, under general Braddock in the French and Indian war. George Washington had two horses shot out from under him in that battle, and his uniform and hat were riddled with Bullet holes, but he was somehow unscathed. Most of his fellow soldiers were slaughtered in that battle. (
Side note: George Washington actually fired the first shots of the French and Indian War, at the Battle of Jumonville Glen on May 28, 1754). .
And it doesn’t stop there
– During the Battle of Brandywine – Pennsylvania, Washington’s life was saved twice.
Polish General Casimir Pulaski helped save Washington’s life during the Battle, which ironically took place on 9/11, 1777. Pulaski led a brilliant counterattack to slow a British advance that was about to defeat Washington’s army.
In that same battle, a famed Scottish rifleman, named Captain Patrick Ferguson, who was so skilled with a rifle, he even invented the “Ferguson rifle”, used by British troops. During the battle he had George Washington in his sites. He could have easily taken Washington out on the spot, but as he was about to shoot, something stopped him.
He would later write “As I was within distance, at which, in the quickest firing, I could have lodged halt a dozen of balls in or about him before he was out of my reach, I had only to determine; but it was not pleasant to fire at the back of an unoffending individual who was acquitting himself so Coolly”.
In other words, Ferguson’s sense of honor stopped him from shooting Washington in the back, as he saw Washington conducting himself so professionally with his back turned to him. .
Whatever it was, and you can conclude what you will, but George Washington certainly seemed to have some exceptional protection, exceeding just some good old “dumb luck” .

However….. I am very curious why most people nowadays are washing their fruits & veggies in baking soda water, and sometimes also washing them again in apple cider vinegar water.

You see, the other day I read that there is NO way whatsoever to wash off the Apeel coating.
IF this is true….. thatvtge Apeel is safe for human consumption…… IF it cannot be washed off, then the Apeel coating sprayed on the fresh foods TRAPS IN ALL THE PESTICIDES, the dirt, and any fecal matter from animals, birds, or farmworkers who aren’t allowed bathroom breaks.
At three different stores, fruit which I purchased appeared to be in need of ripening, but later at home when the fruits were cut into, they BEYOND RIPE, their texture nasty mealy soft.
I am absolutely disgusted.
If you have done a deep dive on this substance, could you tell me if they also spray this miserable POS on fruits & veggies which are going to be frozen?
